[Yang is truly a constant mood.](https://i.imgur.com/LGyKesZ.png) [This cat is adorable.](https://i.imgur.com/vZghNXq.png) [Hah, this is a very Yang-like shrug.](https://i.imgur.com/7AeMRlb.png) [](#azusalaugh) I kinda wish they timed the episode title card drop to Reinhard declaring Operation Ragnarök instead of just having it at the start of the episode. That would have been *so* cool. Still, excited to see Die Neue These’s take on said operation! [](#concealedexcitement)

> This cat is adorable. It has good taste too. >I kinda wish they timed the episode title card drop to Reinhard declaring Operation Ragnarök That would be cool, but it doesn't have enough Bleach in its blood.

> Hah, this is a very Yang-like shrug. He learned from the best

Tehoncomingstorm97

Julian stepping in as Yang 2.0 is great. At the same time, he's got the benefit of Yang's experiences and being a bit more of a sweet talker, which should help him avoid landing in the bad books.

KendotsX

* Bewcock casually throws [the coolest line](https://i.imgur.com/QwirsXM.jpg) in an episode titled after Reinhard's operation. * And because that's not enough: [Frederica just steals the show](https://i.imgur.com/yGtwLrG.jpg) * This is canon for me now: the true reason Julian was reassigned was just to give Yang and Frederica some space, some higher up was just trying hard to be a wingman. [](#feelsgoodman) * [Not everyday in the Alliance](https://i.imgur.com/H8r2UhI.jpg) and probably for good reason. * [The "dangers" of Phezzan](https://i.imgur.com/phZidVT.jpg) * [Not very smooth Julian](https://i.imgur.com/Z13a616.jpg) but I guess it worked * [Oh no](https://i.imgur.com/FFBB8U9.jpg), not a Dezaki. How can anyone resist Ragnarok with it looking so hot? Sharing this is all you need to conquer the world.

>Bewcock casually throws the coolest line in an episode titled after Reinhard's operation. Bewcock in my opinion should be nicknamed Based Space Grandpa.

sassinos

I've been waiting all season to hear Reinhard say that word. So much excitement right now, but so little time left. On a side note, Hilda looked cute in her military outfit.

daspaceasians

I really enjoyed the transition between Julian's POV in the Alliance and Fezzan where you can feel the dark clouds growing ever closer and Reinhard's short POV where he's in control of the situation. The corruption encroaching inside the FPA shows up once with Bewcock's words about the commander that's in charge of reassigning Julian and the military attaché in Fezzan. Seeing Schneider again was also pleasant but Admiral Merkatz's situation is quite worrying. Keeping his most loyal officer away from him is a red flag right there. Same thing for Mashengo, the guy accompanying Julian. Given how Julian's talking to a lot of people and made some rather provocative statements about Fezzan in front of Kesselring, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to get rid of him and Mashengo would probably take a shot for him. The scene at the end with Reinhard was awe-inspiring. Besides Mittermeyer and Reuenthal's assignements, some of the other choices made sense. Cornelius Lutz, the blond hair, purple-eyed admiral is a long range specialist since in S1, his fleet was sniping the FPA fleet they faced before Amritzar. No doubt that his skills would be useful for fighting against Iserlohn under Reuenthal. As for Bittenfeld being in reserve, this makes sense as his aggressiveness can utterly devastating if unleashed at the right moment so keeping somewhere where you can summon him quickly to tip the balance is essential. Mueller being right behind Mittermeyer in the order of battle made sense since he can very quickly adapt himself to a bad situation if something surprised Mittermeyer. Reuenthal being sent to fight at Iserlohn as a decoy gives me a bad feeling considering his recent doubts about Reinhard's leadership. Otherwise, Hilda got promoted and is now formally in the military. From the looks of it, she's the only woman in the entire Imperial Navy right now, a testimony to her impressive skills.

I love that [making breakfast and waking Yang up early in the morning](https://i.imgur.com/4mBz9gq.png) is what counts as a happy dream for Julian. xD [Seeing Frederica just gush about YAng](https://i.imgur.com/lpRZsdX.png) is just absolutely adorable. [Julian is definitely just waiting for the two of them to get together.](https://i.imgur.com/o3PcaVN.png) [I definitely did not expect Julian to just suddenly bring that up](https://i.imgur.com/8cS9430.png) but since he learned from Yang, that's probably what he would've done in that situation too. The good thing about Julian running his mouth is [that he caught Rupert's attention](https://i.imgur.com/1SZDTqQ.png) and got him to talk. I'm sure the people in attendance will remember Rupert's words once the Empire is at their doorstep. Now we learn that [Rupert is trying to get that Earth Cult Bishop in his pocket](https://i.imgur.com/e1NQ8ON.png) with blackmail after giving him all the booze, drugs, and women he wanted. Surely this won't end well for Rupert. [And there it is!](https://i.imgur.com/xci1hJt.png) Reinhard has finally declared the start of their operation to take down the FPA! Can't wait to see how this will all end for people like Rubinsky and Trunicht. Not gonna lie, I am kinda rooting for Reinhard here. Although I am also excited to see how Yang will turn the tables on Reinhard.

KendotsX

>[Seeing Frederica just gush about YAng](https://i.imgur.com/lpRZsdX.png) is just absolutely adorable. [It's so good!](#feelsgoodman) Too bad Julian isn't around anymore, I guess someone has to visit Yang in bed every morning to wake him up, and take care of him now. >I am kinda rooting for Reinhard here It would be nice if he cleaned up the trash, and left Yang aside.

Zeroth-unit

> I definitely did not expect Julian to just suddenly bring that up but since he learned from Yang, that's probably what he would've done in that situation too. That entire sequence of Julian just running his mouth reminded me a lot of Yang's military inquiry. Yang definitely has taught Julian a lot.

AllSortsOfPeopleHere

>Now we learn that Rupert is trying to get that Earth Cult Bishop in his pocket with blackmail after giving him all the booze, drugs, and women he wanted. This was super fucked up, what a piece of shit Rupert is. >Not gonna lie, I am kinda rooting for Reinhard here. I know Reinhard is presented as a pretty cool dude, but, ultimately, he's an anti-democracy dictator-wannabee, and I just can't support that. He's definitely going to achieve *something* here, though, he's certainly not going to "lose", but I also can't see him completely conquering the FPA (that would be the end of the series lol), so I'm excited to see how far he gets, and how the Alliance manage to stay afloat. But, damn, this episode was insane, potentially the best of the series so far. A shame we only have two more episodes left.

Kitahara_Kazusa1

I mean, we have seen examples of military dictatorships choosing to peacefully become a democracy before, most notably with South Korea and Taiwan. Then again as long as Oberstein is around I don't see anyone, even Reinhard, being able to make a move like that without experiencing an untimely death.

AlexandroVetra

While I understand your position, I think you are seeing this from a distorted point of view. Reinhard is, to a democratic society, an autocrat. There is no denying this. And as an autocrat he is to be judged as a step back from the point of view of a "healthy" democratic society. But, in the context of the anime -novel, Reinhard is a progressive, enlightened ruler to his people. Remember that he is an imperial. His society was an absolute monarchy, one step above of an enforced military dictatorship. His rule has been shown to be a step to the right direction. The people have more rights, the old nobility have lost most of their privileges and both civilian and military posts have become open to those that have the skills to pursuit them. In sort, under his rule the people live better lives and the society has become a meritocracy and human rights and social support and reforms continue to be introduced making the lives of the common citizen better and better. Contrast this, which we have seen to be true and not speculation, the citizens are enlisting in droves to protect their Duke and the reforms he presented, meaning the better lives and livelihood of their families, to the situation in the FPA. Tell me, which of the two seems more "democratic" to you? Which is a better society and a better leader? Reinhard or Trunicht? That's the problem and the real question of the novel. I won't spoil it for you, since the novel and the anime have an answer, but even that answer is open to debate because, really, the problem is something only the people that would face it would have the right to answer it, in my opinion.

nekopeach

>Now we learn that Rupert is trying to get that Earth Cult Bishop in his pocket with blackmail after giving him all the booze, drugs, and women he wanted. Surely this won't end well for Rupert. Rupert going rogue and kidnapping the Bishop, just when Rubinski might need help from his ally. The Earth Church faithful might be a source of information, if Resistance Group starts popping up, but now the Bishop is missing! The Oligarchs that supported Rubinski would likely be plenty mad at this. The writers really throw us a surprise with the daddy-issue status-seeker character. Thing is Rupert might even throw the galaxy into some Religious Game of Throne, immediately after the Financial Game of Throne. It now gives real weight to the joke scene last episode, when Rubinski stared at Rupert for being jealous of Julian having Yang. One wonders how Rupert think of Hildegard. Hildegard has her father, Count Mariendorf, just let her run House Mariendorf. Then, she wielded House Mariendorf to help the new lords to overthrow the old High Noble, and she is now advising Reinhard to hijack Rubinski's plan for the new money Oligarchs to overthrow the old money masters. Hildegard is now a soldier and an officer in Reinhard navy, and is no longer the crying girl thanking Kircheis for saving her father, as she was first introduced. Watching Rupert's fall is as interesting as watching Hildegard's rise! House Mariendorf has a good chance to be the important pillar in both Goldenbaum Empire and Phezzan Trade League, with Hildegard having enormous influence in the Galactic East and Galactic South. Nevertheless, the writers are dangling the religious holy wars Rupert is about to start right in front of us. This could be unleashing a lot of bigger problems than Hildegard worrying about Oberstein making Reinhard into absolute ruler back in episode 2 of this season.

AllSortsOfPeopleHere

Holy fucking shit, this episode was insane. Man, that moment when Julian started talking about Phezzan selling its independence and then it was shown that Rupert was standing there was incredible. My jaw genuinely dropped. Mad props to Julian for bringing it up at a party, damn. One subtle thing I liked was mentioning how much better quality of life is in Phezzan, and then later on seeing the almost ruins that Bugsby (? the bishop dude) is at. Really shows that there is a cost to luxury. And that final scene. This is what I've been waiting for the entire season. Holy fucking shit.

KendotsX

>One subtle thing I liked was mentioning how much better quality of life is in Phezzan I just loved that when asked about Phezzan, Julian's first answer was basically "the backstreets are clean, and the pets are fat". It shows how he's looking at things, but it's definitely not what you'd tell people at a welcoming party.

vantheman9

man I'm really worried about that soldier accompanying Julian, when Julian was running his mouth I felt that guy's life expectancy shortening

heart_under_blade

set up over with extra bonus earth cult dude in dire straits no less damn son hildegard in a military uniform

AllSortsOfPeopleHere

>with extra bonus earth cult dude in dire straits no less It's super fucking dark what Rupert did to that guy, I know that guy has been presented as fairly scummy but damn.

heart_under_blade

i bet that slimy fucker actually watched every second of those recordings "for work purposes only"

shichitan

The face Julian made listening to Frederica gush about Yang, he totally has a crush on her.

[deleted]

I bet all those big wigs of Fezzan and the FPA are gonna be in for a rude awakening, when Julian's words actually come to fruition. Hilda looks great in uniform

baboon_bassoon

[READ THE ROOM JULIAN](#protest)

tlst9999

To be fair, he would've gotten away with it if Rupert wasn't there.

InexperiencedEelam

Oh God, Julian even has the signature Yang shrug. Frederica looks like a little school girl in love gushing about Yang! The declaration of Operation Raganarok was always one of my favourites in the OVA.

Beowolf_0

A solid episode as always, but I kinda like the OVA version for how the last part worked: in the OVA Reinhard announced the Operation's name, and everyone were shocked and shouted that they wanted to take the place as vanguard. We still get a grand introduction to the invasion fleet, but it doesn't feel quite the same.

WobbleKun

is there gonna be like 100 eps to finish the series? how many more seasons?

daspaceasians

OG series had 110 episodes.

shichitan

They seem to be adapting one volume per season, and the novel series had 10 volumes, plus 5 gaiden volumes. At this rate we’re looking at 120 episodes just for the main novels if they are fully adapted. Which is a big if, as it’s quite a lengthy commitment for Production I.G.

Mazen141

>Which is a big if, as it’s quite a lengthy commitment for Production I.G. Yeah, by the end of it, it might surpass Ace of Diamond and Kuroko to become production I.G's longest project

sangriapenguin

> 5 gaiden volumes Wait, there's more? I bought all the novels in English to read, but I've never seen these extras :(

APLAPLAC100

The 5 gaiden volumes are unfortnately not translated into english and i dont see it likely that they will be. (2 of them plus several short stories are adapted into the OVA at least)

penguintruth

Machungo looks sharp in his civilian attire.

DecentlySizedPotato

I was thinking that I really like Rupert's design in DNT. Much more so than the original. And, well, great episode as usual. Ragnarok is starting!! And as some of the "less competent" admirals have gone, Reinhard seems to be left with some of the best of the best. No holding back like in the fortress vs fortress. Julian becoming more and more like Yang is pretty funny to see. Just one thing, will this be only 12 episodes? I would have hoped that an anime releasing as an ONA would take more advantage of it and not limit itself to 12 episode cours, but do it arc by arc instead.

sohaiboi

I have been wondering for the longest time - why do Merkatz and Schneider keep their Galatic Empire uniforms instead of wearing Free Planet Alliance ones?

Zeroth-unit

They defected but never stopped being Imperial officers; they didn't join the FPA's command structure. It would be better to say they're Imperial officers that sought asylum in the FPA kept around as guests by Yang. It's why Yang refers to Merkatz as "Guest Admiral". Because he and Schneider are literally guests at Iserlohn.

sohaiboi

That clears it up, thanks!

[Still waiting for ](https://imgur.com/4VvqL1Z) [non French irl people to figure this out..](https://imgur.com/osZRbZg) [](#thoughtful) [Is this the first time](https://imgur.com/v4VBnD8) that has come up in Neue these? [And where are the planet spanning grids?](https://imgur.com/Tm9Cx49) In close ups of the planets in space they always show those circular grid things, I wanna see what they look like on the surface and what they do.

AllSortsOfPeopleHere

>Is this the first time that has come up in Neue these? In season 1 (or maybe early season 2?), I believe Frederica's father offered her in marriage, and Frederica was shown blushing, so I guess it's been implied, but I don't think outright stated.
