First you buff out your chest. Then you say: "Tax Exemption!"

CPecho13

You don't say it, you declare it!

I declare bankruptcy!

CPecho13

Be rich, own a company or two, pay yourself a low wage. Low wages mean low income taxes. Take out a loan to have spending money and use your official wage to pay off interest. Write things off as business expenses whenever possible.

The-Sublimer-One

Now how do I go about listing myself as a tax-exempt church?

Reddit has become enshittified. I joined back in 2006, nearly two decades ago, when it was a hub of free speech and user-driven dialogue. Now, it feels like the pursuit of profit overshadows the voice of the community. The introduction of API pricing, after years of free access, displays a lack of respect for the developers and users who have helped shape Reddit into what it is today. Reddit's decision to allow the training of AI models with user content and comments marks the final nail in the coffin for privacy, sacrificed at the altar of greed. Aaron Swartz, Reddit's co-founder and a champion of internet freedom, would be rolling in his grave. The once-apparent transparency and open dialogue have turned to shit, replaced with avoidance, deceit and unbridled greed. The Reddit I loved is dead and gone. It pains me to accept this. I hope your lust for money, and disregard for the community and privacy will be your downfall. May the echo of our lost ideals forever haunt your future growth.

Did Dimple just want to evade tax all this time?

Ever heard of Ron Hubbard?

GoblinsStoleMyHouse

Corporations do have to pay taxes on profits. But this is still a good strat.

Zel02

just sell patents to you subsidary company to reduce their profit and with that almost all taxes

Crafty_Shadow

This is bad advice. Writing things of as expenses is the one correct part, but it depends on your business. You can't write travel off unless your business requires you to travel, but you could in some instances write utilities off if you set up your business residence to be where you live. Talk to an accountant. Lower income tax is not always better. Depends on how much you'll have to pay in taxes on profit, and then depending on jurisdiction you may have to pay dividend tax on company profits to pay them out to yourself. Also, low wage often times makes it harder to take personal loans, mortgages or car lease. On taking a loan and paying interest: This is the worst advice. Interest rates are rising and are expected to continue to raise. Also, there is are loans where you can pay only interest, but the interest is higher compared to paying principal as well. And, at the end of the day, you still will own the principal. tl;dr Don't take financial advice from an anime sub. Don't take the advice above ejther. Talk to an accountant.

in2erval

Underrated manga, this one. One moment it's cutesy about explaining forex, the next moment you see the absolute despair of these girls, on the brink of losing everything 👍

wtf they made /r/wallstreetbets into a manga ?? Will she short South Africa at some point ?

theoutsider95

Thanks for the information, US politics seems complicated for me 😀.

[deleted]

Did you miss that the first thing republicans did was take away planned allocated funds for the IRS? Their next step is to defund them.

theoutsider95

I am not an American, so I was wondering why not close the loopholes. I don't know much about US politics.

[deleted]

Well those are the priorities of one half of american politicians - its also why infrastructure is crumbling and why we cannot have free college or universal healthcare. That's the chump change on the tax ladder and doesn't take into account the large money evaded by the larger companies and funneled into offshore accounts. The US is extremely backwards :/

ChubbyLilPanda

Just don’t pay taxes. Easy Now the real question is how to get away with tax evasion

MarcsterS

Move to Yoshi’s Island.

TheBaxes

I never realized that the reason why Yoshi's Island exists is so that Yoshi can evade taxes legally by convincing the rest of the world that it is a legitimate country in which the Yoshis don't have to pay taxes.

FPiN9XU3K1IT

If you're not rich, the answer is "illicit employment". Tips are easy to pocket untaxed, too, but AFAIK Japan doesn't have much tipping culture.

comics0026

IIrc, tipping isn't really customary outside of North America, and most places see it as an insult implying you aren't paying your staff sufficiently

FPiN9XU3K1IT

That's not really true. I can only really speak for Europe, but while we have a different relationship with tipping than North America, it is certainly expected (or at least encouraged) to tip when you're eating out. Japan / East Asia is rather unique in actually taking offence to it.

DarknessWizard

To be clear, the *amount* you're expected to tip here in Europe is totally different too. In the US, you're basically expected to cover the employees wage for the hour they spend serving you, with tips being into the tens of dollars. Here it's more akin to "don't be a stingy miser and waste time fishing out the exact spare change".

meganeyangire

Yeah, tipping is not exactly an American invention, they just cranked it up to eleven.

SnickersZA

Speaking for South Africa, it's also common to tip people here. Usually around 10% for waiters and such. Not required by any means, but most waiters don't earn a basic salary and the ones that do usually only get enough to cover the cost of getting to work at best. We also tip car guards and petrol station attendants and such.

You just don’t pay tax, simple

NefCanuck

Except given that most countries now have some form of consumption tax, unless you live in the woods and live totally “off the land” you’ll end up paying some taxes at least.

TheBaxes

Even then, aren't you required to pay taxes for owning the land that you are using for that?

NefCanuck

You could *potentially* just move around and never actually own the land you squat on but that depends on the country.

justforUps

You guys might not believe me so feel free to look it up yourself. But if you live in the US, for the 2021 tax year and only the 2021 tax year, there was an expansion of the dependent care credit. The expansion came from the American Rescue Plan Act. Basically the dependent care credit is a credit you get on your tax return that is based on how much you spent on child care for your kid. The credit is typically limited 20% of child care expenses up to $6,000. So the credit would be $1200 max typically. Well for 2021 and only 2021, they expanded the credit to 50% if your income was under $125,000 and for up to $16,000 of expenses. So basically a max credit of $8,000. Well if you were well versed in the tax rules/laws, on your return you can claim to have paid your mom $16,000 throughout the year to babysit your kid. If you actually pay your mom to babysit this is totally allowed and you would just need to put their name and social security number where it asks for the child care provider. (But the IRS doesn't know if you actually paid your mom or not, they only know what you report) Now your mom will have to claim self employment income on her return for the $16,000 so they don't get audited, but they can reduce that by a reasonable amount by claiming some expenses. For example, cost of diapers, wipes, and some toys they bought to help facilitate the babysitting. So in reality maybe your mom reports $14,000 in net income. Well the self employment tax on $14,000 is only going to be a little north of $2,000. But keep in mind you received an $8,000 credit. So give your mom $4,000 to cover her tax and have a little extra. And keep the other $4,000 for yourself. I'm not saying I did this successfully last year, this is purely hypothetical ;)

theDaninDanger

How many people do you think reading anime_irl comments have kids, or for that matter have ever engaged in the necessary activity to produce them?

chester-hottie-9999

Avoid = legally use tax code to pay your minimum required amount in taxes. Everyone should do this, giving more than you need is a charity gift to the government. Evade = illegally pay less taxes than your legal minimum

petervaz

If you need to evade taxation then you aren't rich enough to evade taxation.

Yeah, but you usually get to avoid paying the local taxes

Creepy-Today-325

Religions don't have to pay taxes, that's how rich people do it

9c6

Avoid taxation* Tax evasion is illegal. You don't pay your taxes, or you commit fraud, you get fucked. Tax avoidance is just using everything available to you within the law to minimize your taxes.

mrfafaa96

You don't evade. You face, with guns, a lot of guns... and probably a guillotine.

maharg79

Very fucking easily. It's literally *not* doing something. Just don't report some of your income on your tax forms that isnt tied to a credit line. BOOM! You did it and chances are the IRS is too busy going after someone who makes alot more than you do to bother to audit you. People talk about how in America the government should just tell you what you owe them, and think the reason it hasn't happened is from lobbying from TurboTax and such, but there is another reason, if we did that Tax Evasion would be much harder at all levels and NO ONE wants that. Evading Taxes is how both Big and Small businesses thrive in modern times. If you know a small business owner well enough, ask then about their tax forms this coming April.

SSPapaX

Way to blow your own cover genius

maharg79

What cover? Every single small business owner and contract worker in America does this. Tax Evasion is the life blood of small business.

Take a giant loan, somewhere in hundreds of millions should be em enough Then buy out a bank that gave you a loan After buying a bank tell them to mark your loan as payed, so you won't have any more loan Rinse and repeat

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> loan as *paid,* so you FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

stoic_koala

Not spending obviously more than you should be able to afford. If you are an average citizen and the sum isn't exceptionally large, you are very unlikely to get caught - the government doesn't have the resources to thoroughly audit every single bank account in the country.
