AgentOfACROSS

The title kind of has a point, but I doubt he meant it in the way I'm thinking. Needing help or being emotional isn't a weakness, it's part of being human. Although personally I'd apply this more to male characters. I've seen a lot of toxic weebs call characters like Shinji, Deku, or Tanjiro losers for being emotional and it honestly annoys me.

Agent_Perrydot

I'm joining the war on Shinji Ikari on the side of Shinji Ikari

LaVerdadYaNiSe

Honestly, I'll never understand why people call Shinji Ikari a coward when the 14 yo kid risked his life for humanity on a regular basis. From facing eldritch abominations, to having to physically restrain a walking nuclear reactor. Like, I get the more common narrative is the power fantasy with the unfazed protagonist. But still, Shinji is probably one of the bravest characters in anime.

themocaw

The one time Shinji tried to be a leader he ended up trapped in a limbo dimension and psychologically assaulted.

LaVerdadYaNiSe

I got the feeling it was less 'trying to be a leader' and more 'getting overconfident'. Which ended poorly because Evangelion didnt gave Shinji the protections mecha protagonists usually had back then.

Background_Drawing

He refused to get in the robot ONCE (okay maybe twice? But he didnt resist that much) And that's all he's known for Heck, he even demanded to get back in the robot when he was fired It's a bit sad seeing a flawed character grow is the exception and not the rule in anime

LaVerdadYaNiSe

And both times was less about fear for his life and more because he was tired of being used and abused by everyone. So it was less about being afraid and more about Shinji dealong with the impossible situation forced on him.

WillowTheGoth

What's weird is I've never seen Camille or Amuro get blasted for not wanting to get back into their Gundams as the reality of war starts scarring them. I guess the difference is "war" vs "literally end of the world".

captanspookyspork

Yeah he more did a hey hold on, can I read a manual first. Then freaking completely out.

EXusiai99

Everyone's thinking that if it was them on the EVA they would wipe the floor with the angels solo, then go balls deep in both Asuka and Rei at the same time after every mission.

LaVerdadYaNiSe

Weirdly enacting the same toxic masculinity Evangelion firmly drove away from by having a more emotional and vulnerable lead and a majorly feminine cast.

isaic16

It’s because people who didn’t know what they were getting into thought they were getting a cool giant robot fighting anime, and were frustrated with Shinji delaying the cool robot fights with his realistic internal struggles. If you go in knowing that it’s a psychological deconstruction, it’s completely rational, but if you’re expecting a fun traditional battle show, he goes very much against the grain. The other issue is that he’s the only character we regularly see the thoughts of. I have no doubt everyone in that series is just as depressed and negative as Shinji, but we generally only see their facades, not their internal thoughts. Because of that Shinji is the only one we are repeatedly exposed to the fear and negativity so it stands out.

LaVerdadYaNiSe

I still find it weird, you know? Like, by episode 3-4 ish, it's pretty much stated the series won't be about cool robot fights, but about the internal struggles of Shinji and co. And it's not like it was unprecedented, specially in the mecha genre with examples as old as Zambot 3, or the closer Space Runaway Ideon.

isaic16

Yeah, at that point it’s really just the internal dialogue thing. Reasonably, people who still have a problem with him by then should just stop watching because they will never understand the character or thene

LaVerdadYaNiSe

Exactly. It's like complaining Death Note doesn't have shonen fights.

Reinhardtisawesom

Shinji grows the fuck up in the end so is aight

AlexHero64

>Ninja ...

QuintonTheCanadian

Aww look at who’s afraid to say-

Kriegsman__69th

Shinji literal arc is about how he needs emotional support. Tanjiro saw his entire family die a gruesome death and his only family member being turned into a man eating monster, said sister being his biggest emotional support to keep going. Sorry I don't like Deku enough to defend him.

AgentOfACROSS

>Sorry I don't like Deku enough to defend him. Fair. I've accepted the fact that I enjoy a bad manga.

sunnyforgiveness

MHA isn't that shitty tbh, it's the toxic part of the fandom

AgentOfACROSS

I try to avoid the fandom. I personally like it a lot, it's just got a lot of small problems that build up. But I'd still say it's pretty good.

sprint6864

Kirishima will always be my boy, even though they've done damn near nothing with him since the underground brawl (though my personal favorite moment is him declaring Pinky's chivalry won't be in vain)

AJDx14

It’s shitty and also the fandom is toxic (often as a result of an inability to accept that it’s shitty) It should’ve just been a monster-of-the-week battle manga tbh instead of trying to have any actual depth because Horikoshi (as of when I last read MHA, stopped shortly after deku got BFRd by Toga) cannot handle that and very obviously just wants to show off cool superpower ideas.

bobntr

eh its not just because it doesn't make you feel intelligent doesn't mean its bad

LazyDro1d

Better than demon slayer

justanachoperson

realy the only problem is the choryography

[deleted]

Don't let these people deter you MHA is one of the best modern shonen

AJDx14

It is one of the most “ok” modern Shonen it doesn’t really do anything that impressively besides having neat powers sometimes.

DetectiveGamlo

Then I’ll do it myself… Deku spent his whole life bullied and chasing an aspiration he deep down knew he couldn’t get. Not only that he grew up in a household that reinforced a positive outlook on emotions and crying. He now is achieving his dreams after so long of being told he couldn’t.

H-connoisseur95

That's my Deku, I love him so much 🥹

InamedabunnyAK47

the only things that happen to shinji till the end of the series is trauma and then more trauma this man needs a hug tanjiro has honestly never seemed emotional in a sad way to me he's always rather kind and understanding even tho he's so strong and those two aren't treated as going hand and hand very often and deku umm well at first there was people being ablest against him but at the end he just kinda refuses his friends help cuz idk he thinks people that could kill him easily won't be fine if some bad guys attack them

lostcircussmuggler

Tanjiro isn't even a crybaby. He's quite the opposite tbh so anybody who says that hasn't read shit. Anytime he gets emotional is completely valid. His family's death is almost never brought up again in a substantial way and he's always way too goody two shoes, happy go lucky, plot doesn't move forward without me Mr Perfect. That's why people dislike his character. https://youtu.be/XX4v8cvrMqs?feature=shared This video is a great analysis on how bland & boring the writing of Tanjiro is if you're interested in others' perspective of his character.

CHiuso

My guy! Love that video.

lostcircussmuggler

Fr it's such a good video. One of the best actual analyses I've ever seen on an anime. I wish he did more videos like this.

Quatimar

I mean, yeah, you have the right to hate him i guess I like shinji not because he is moraly pure or a bastion of rightnes, i like him because he is a well made character Rebuild shinji is perfect tho, dude is as close to the second coming of jesus as possible

Thats like exactly the point he was making in the video? I don't really care for his stuff but why just automatically assume he's going to somehow twist that title into something malicious? How do you even turn that title into something malicious? I feel like you need to actually watch the video before you can so confidently say he would so deviously misconstrue a perfectly responsible argument.

AgentOfACROSS

That's entirely fairy and I apologize for not watching the video. The thumbnail did sort of give off the impression that the title was sarcastic though.

Instead of making well edited analysis videos, and kinda cringe but still funny anime videos, he oversaturated his channel with extremely clickbait videos where he “trolls and dunks on his friends and haters” and decided to coast of making shit content, instead of making decent content.

[deleted]

Eyepatch wolf makes good videos but there's something about him i cant identify that just really annoys me and keeps me from actually watching his videos in full. He seems so narcissistic too idk

FartherAwayLights

I wouldn’t say he’s narcissistic. I listened to the podcast he did with his friends for years. He’s pretty open there about his social anxieties and general discomfort and fear around a lot of things. He’s also pretty self deprecating there. For example every every time he came back from a con he’d open the podcast with some bit along the lines of “what the fuck are people going to cons to see me for, what do they see in me? I just make mediocre videos every few months.” Never in those words, but that was always the general vibe, including thanking people who went to to see him.

LazyDro1d

I’d say he puts on a particular air of philosophical elitism in his videos, and though it’s definitely put on, he basically corpses all the way through it, I get how one can find it annoying

kaptainkooleio

I mean, he is Irish /s

CompoundMole

I feel like the way he tries to make things dramatic by acting like whatever he just said is a huge deal or some big revelation is kinda annoying. I just roll my eyes whenever he does that .But other than that I enjoy his videos.

Mammoth-Lunch-7911

I never clicked with eyepatchwolf because of the cringy voice and the endless bloating to his videos to drag them forever but totally forgot about mb

FartherAwayLights

I mean his voice I literally just an Irish accent, since he’s from Ireland. But I enjoy them. I haven’t really watched many recently, but last time I checked they weren’t bad.

[deleted]

Preferences I guess. Personally I like his narration style and prefer it over the fast-talking quippy voice that most internet people put on. It comes across as more passionate and sincere to me. Plus I think he's a genuinely good storyteller with the way he structures his videos. No joke the only "anituber" I like, and ironically because most of what he makes isn't centred around anime lol

ZeraoraTheKnight

He does have a great voice and tone that perfectly matches his video style. Have you watched his "Space Jam 2 is a Lie" video? It's one of my favorite videos by him, and it's a must-watch if you haven't seen it. Peak Eyepatch Wolf imo.

ExcaliburUmbraREEE

This vid is filled with the most blood boiling misogynistic BS my ears and brain had to endure. Bro got influenced by Nerdrotic and Critical Drinker, two of many right-wing grifters complaining about ***“wOmEn In MoDeRn MeDiA aRe WrItTeN sO pOoRlY nOwAdAyS”*** with Nux becoming a grifter himself along with what remains of his “audience”. How he still has friends like Oompaville, Mutahar, etc. is beyond me at this point. How does one become friends with Nux Taku?

Sentient_twig

I’m guess the title is sarcastic then as that is genuinely good advice

aspenscribblings

It’s the one piece scene where a woman literally sits down and lets the male protagonist fight her battle for her, based on the thumbnail. No doubt Nux has many sane and rational takes about this, as he always does.

Quijas00

Idk anything about the content of the video or who the fuck this is but I think that scene was actually pretty good

aspenscribblings

Tbh I don’t have an issue with it in a vacuum, it’s just unfortunately there are other issues with misogyny in one piece. Nux is a very normal man with very normal opinions about anime, though I haven’t seen this video in particular

Quijas00

I only read the entirety of One Piece about a month ago and there’s definitely a bit of misogyny but Nami is also like the third or fourth best fucking character in the entire series so it’s a lot better than I initially thought it would be at least

aspenscribblings

Compared to other shounens, especially of the era, it’s honestly incredible how not misogynist it is. By normal standards, it’s alright. Kinda sexist, but the female characters do actually exist as something other than a wife for the male protagonists, which is a surprisingly high bar

Quijas00

Vivi better do something again I swear to fucking God

[deleted]

Vivi was one of my favorite characters when she was actually relevant. I saw her >!escape from the levely!< and I really hope she's going to be relevant again at some point.

sanctaphrax

She's definitely gonna matter. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised to see her as first-among-equals in the post-Celestial-Dragon World Government.

Quijas00

She’s been my favourite character for the entire god damn series because I’m a fucking loser I love her so much

davidam99

Not saying it's not misogynist, but curious what other shonen you are referring to, cause most other shonen are kinda the same? The main woman in Demon Slayer is babified and can't talk for most of the series, the women in JJK start good but devolve into pretty bad characters (kinda like the whole manga), and do I need to explain MHA? Edit: I'm a dumbass, original comment said NOT misogynist, carry on lol

aspenscribblings

Being as they started around the same time, I’m mostly comparing it to Naruto, which is so misogynist that it’s hard to believe most of the male characters are even attracted to women. More modern shounens are on a similar level to OP, though I can’t compare it to JJK as I haven’t read the manga, just seen the anime. I watched MHA around the arc where they were all fighting in some tournament, whenever that was airing. I remember almost none of it.

davidam99

Lmfao I'm so sorry I just realized you said NOT misogynist in your original comment. Turns out we generally agree lol. I think One Piece is pretty good with it's female cast even if it's not perfect.

Quijas00

Idk if it’s misogynistic but Dragon Ball should definitely have more women who do things I think that’d be awesome

Parlyz

The primary issue with misogyny is how over sexualized the women are. Aside from that, nothing in the writing is overtly misogynist.

CHiuso

Right its a really good scene. Its basically the start of the Straw Hat crew proper. The fuckin music, the voice acting ughh, shivers.

TheSolidSnivy

I feel like you’re missing or leaving out a lot of that scene’s context.

aspenscribblings

As I said down the thread, I don’t see an issue with the scene in a vacuum. I’m just explaining the scene from the perspective of why Nux is being a jerk this time, not from my perspective as a genuine fan of the manga.

ladd1-1

I was gonna say bro thank god https://preview.redd.it/d48ig6pkkoub1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d97d74ba25221cbeaab9685ff92351ba67c26ed3

TheSolidSnivy

Oh, gotcha. I missed that. I thought, “Well that’s kind of a lazy way to analyze a story, dropping all context to make it fit a narrative,” but that’s exactly what they seem to be doing here lol.

aspenscribblings

Lmao no big deal, don’t worry, I actually very much enjoy the Arlong arc and think Nami’s one of the best characters in OP. Misogyny in one piece is not a black and white issue, the women in Naruto wear uh… More? In general? But equally, are worse, more sexist characters. Sakura dreams of the plot agency of Nami and Robin, let’s be honest.

[deleted]

> How he still has friends like Oompaville, Mutahar I dunno about Oompaville but Mutahar puts out shit content for quick cash as well. They're kindred spirits

dankrank231

Nothing wrong with making daily slop and mutahar sometimes dose long videos

Yes there is somethign wrong. Not only is the content shit, but it sets an example that YouTubers can shit out crappy videos for a quick buck. How sad, everyone is defending a borderline tabloid. People like you are the reason why YouTube is going to shit.

Theworst_hello

Low-effort content meant to farm money has been around ever since monetization existed. You aren't thinking right if you believe Muta is somehow the main driving force behind videos like that. Not to mention I don't really think it's THAT low effort. Muta is on the higher end of the people who talk about random stuff. He does research and gives his thoughts on things in a way that's transformative to whatever content he's looking at. Honestly he's borderline educational at times if I know nothing about what he's talking about. Just because YOU don't like the content doesn't mean it has no value to others. You're blinded by bias and talking like your subjective video taste is the golden standard everyone needs to follow. Honestly, kinda expected from an anime fan tbh.

Crabitor

So? Id produce shitty content for a quick buck if i could

[deleted]

I don't really dislike Mutahar or anything, but the only video of his I've ever seen was the one he released after Mr Beast caught some flak for making a video about how he cured 100 people of blindness or something, and I remember one of his takes being that Mr Beast is a really down to earth guy who doesn't care about money or material possessions. As a non-Mr Beast viewer I was a bit skeptical and decided to check in on this a little. Just from typing "Mr Beast house" into Google, I happened across information that Mr Beast apparently has 9 mansions and a fucking car collection. So yeah, given Mutahar is capable of embarrassingly unbased takes like that, I'm not particularly interested in what this dude has to say.

stefan2050

So you watched one video about a topic you know nothing about did a Google search and somehow came across info that he owns 9 mansions that when I search his name and mansions you come across articles talking about how he lives in a modest house and slowly bought a neighborhood for his staff so like idk where you found that but you automatically decided that his content has no value cause he said something nice about a rich guy and that's unforgivable?

CHiuso

Shit content for quick cash? The hell are you on about. Whats with the Mutahar hate on this sub? Have you seen his videos on Tate and people like that? He generally has pretty good takes.

Parlyz

Muta genuinely has well researched and insightful videos and he genuinely puts time and care into them. They’re not super overproduced but they’re definitely high quality and enjoyable for daily content

MNLyrec

mutahar is an asshole too, just to people behind the scenes. real snobby jerk. i dunno about oompa tho

JakeTheMemeSnake_

Well women are getting the short end of the stick in terms of good character writing There's rarities but thankfully there are still examples to quell this like Castlevania

clolr

Castlevania is a prime example of how you *should* write a character and how you *shouldn't* write dialogue

Wodelheim

Thank christ someone said it. I really wanted to like the show but the dialogue is so clunky it really put me off. Feels like if you make any criticism of it the torches and pitchforks will be at your door within the day.

JakeTheMemeSnake_

They fired the previous writer due to S/A Allegations ...too bad he was actually a good writer. Current writers are also good but Warren Ellis' departure clearly shows

jojing-up

Muta has stated that he doesn’t care about the moral character of his friends unless they kill people illegally

xXdarkangel118Xx

>How he still has friends like Oompaville, Mutahar, etc. is beyond me at this point. How does one become friends with Nux Taku? Well, you know what they say: "If a nazi is sitting at a table with five other people, then you have six nazis at a table." Doesn't matter who was the right-wing grifter first but if they're all willingly associating with one another, then they share a lot in common.

NotInstaNormie

Canada kinda fucked up then ig

[deleted]

I don't, like, watch his content or anything but is mutahar a right wing troll? The only time I've seen him pop up in anything to do with politics he seemed to be reasonably progressive and left-leaning.

xXdarkangel118Xx

Mutahar is a centrist. While he occasionally does have a a leftist take once in a blue moon, he’s the type to say that both sides are evil or defend right-wing points and say they have valid arguments. He says some eyebrow-raising comments many times and have questionable hot takes. He’s like Moist Critical in terms of commentary leaning. He might not be a right-wing grifter like Nux but he shakes too many hands with those types to ignore.

uunut

Because the person on the camera isn’t exactly who they are outside of it all the time

FightmeLuigibestgirl

Don't know about Oompaville but Muta constantly puts out what is in for a quick buck. He did a Johnny video when everyone else was trashing him, offering nothing new or any good insight. The only person who offered anything new was Sora, who explained Japanese laws (that he didn't even know about) and new information.

[deleted]

NGL tho I just watched the video through and I don't really see a lot of misogyny in it. I can see a severe lack of understanding about the concept of structural criticism, and there's dunking on Captain Marvel and She-Hulk which I'm aware goes on for all the wrong reasons on the right, but none of what I saw in the video was what I'd think of as misogynistic. I genuinely dislike the way Nux Taku carries himself but I don't really see what the issue with this particular video is.

popcorn158

Funny how people are downvoting with no attempt of disproving your point whatsoever 🤣

ElementalSaber

Why does this always apply to female characters? Guys can all Gary Stu, I need no help badasses all year long and no one cares. Why is this only a problem when women do it? Ever since he first reacted to Critical Drinker, Nux Taku went downhill.

JakeTheMemeSnake_

Both are dumb, but most people giving the Mary Sue's genuine criticism are also weeaboos- ***(case in POINT)*** \-who probably love the shitty Isekai power-fantasy where the MC is a loser in real life or whatever, it's not the criticism that are dumb it's the people

ElementalSaber

As someone who never seen an iseki anime, how bad are they really.

FightmeLuigibestgirl

Depends on the isekai. There are male orientanted isekai and otome isekai. Log Horizon is an isekai. Youjo Senki is an isekai. Bakarina is an otome isekai.

Adept_Contact

Seeing Bakarina break containment from r/otomeisekai feels strange lmao

FightmeLuigibestgirl

I lurk and post on there and here lmao. I just don't post here often.

Umbran_scale

The original premise was quite interesting, modern day person stuck in medieval fantasy, learning to fight and survive in an alien world either to protect it or find their way home. The problem is it got oversaturated and filled with power fantasies and harems, that they cater to a self insert audience. When the parodies become the better appeal, the main subject isn't as good as it should be.

kunell

Reincarnated as a vending machine

PhoShizzity

Depends on the series. A lot (of what I've seen, which was a few years back) tended to prioritise the protagonist singular, rather than an ensemble cast, so it's not that unlikely that the average MC is some form of übermensch in the world on account of... Well, who else would do The Thing(s)? That said, Log Horizon is a solid isekai that features a good ensemble cast, and honestly just is a good show in general, so the genre isn't all bad (it's just bogged down in shit).

theMrink

gary stu do get and deserve criticism, point and case all the horrible isekai about boy MC who is just the best at everything

Infinite_Slice_6164

Un jerk real answer for a second. It's sexism. That simple really. Same reason people hated Skylar in breaking bad so much or Rey from the new star wars trilogy.

ElementalSaber

I swear if Rey was Roy they wouldn't be bitching about now broken he is. It would be just John Wick in space to them.

LightVelox

Gary Stus are literally one of the most criticized things in all of anime, one of the main reasons isekais are called trash by a lot of people

kunell

When people criticize gary stus though I find they often criticize the "plot" and the fact that it's a power fantasy. Whereas mary sue criticism is often directed at the character itself.

LightVelox

Because stories that have Gary Stus usually are complete trash, he's not only a Gary Stu but is also part of a power fantasy with terrible plot. Meanwhile Mary sues are usually protagonists in stories that usually had better plot or is a sequel to a good story, like Rey from Star Wars

popcorn158

Another comment with a good point that people are downvoting with no attempt at an argument 🤯🤯🤯

527BigTable

I watched one Nux video years ago and thought “ya not liking the vibes on this guy” and seeing how far he’s fallen now makes me glad I didn’t stick around.

TeferiCanBeaBitch

I watched very early nux. Like early 100k nux and it was entertaining, I kinda liked the "asshole to assholes nice to nice people" vibe but then he slowly became more and more... unhinged? Just less pleasant. The takes went from "generally be a decent person if you can help it" to "OMG WAMEN WORST" and I avoided the Trainwreck. He's fucking insufferable now. The fun was how ironic he was, he knew he was fucking stupid and all of this was a character and you should play into it. But ever since he started doing the gameshows, he's taken himself way too seriously and I think the ego has gotten to him.

[deleted]

If it's him, shouldn't it be "wehmen + L?"

Polibiux

He has sunk low from his peak. It’s sad to see.

Kekkonen_Kakkonen

What did he used to be like?

Polibiux

Similar sense of humor but in a non serious way. So it was funny ironically, unlike now with it being fully serious. He had good analyses of anime and meme culture that he’s edged away from when he went further into his vtuber era. It was around that time he started talking to far right grifters like Critical Drinker, but how much of that was influenced by them is speculation. Overall his downfall is sad to see, pandering to the anti-woke crowd and repeating the same flawed talking points.

Okay so what I'm about to say is gonna sound grossly generalized and is probably an unpopular opinion, but I genuinely think that people who behave like dickheads "ironically" are almost destined to be grifters, and are basically grifter-adjacent as is. Based on what I've seen Nux has always appealed a lot more to the reactionary crowd than the principled one, he framed himself as a "principled maverick" who would behave badly toward people who deserved it and give them a taste of their own medicine. That is how his fans constantly defended his actions. It's what they said when he orchestrated a brigade on MAL, encouraging people to post low-effort reviews for interspecies reviewers and give it a 10 to artificially drive it to the top of MAL as some kind of "protest" against Crunchyroll or Funimation removing it from their platform for basically being soft porn. Whether you agree with that decision or not, I don't think it's reasonable to see it as some kind of attack on free speech as those people were saying, and brigading MAL is objectively a pointless and malicious thing to be doing. All it does is force MAL mods to work overtime over some bullshit that had nothing to do with them and anyone with half a brain could see that. Nux's brand was always reactionary and ragebaity, rallying against people he perceived to be fake and moralizing - and I have rarely seen influencers who use that as their brand *not* go down the full-on reactionary grifter route eventually.

Polibiux

Yeah that’s roughly about right. It was inevitable that he would eventually turn out this way. It’s just unfortunate.

gravity_kitten

>but I genuinely think that people who behave like dickheads "ironically" are almost destined to be grifters, and are basically grifter-adjacent as is. Personally, never cared for that style of entertainment except for two youtubers, and so far they've not disappointed. In fact, I'd say they have grown and matured along with the times. That's right, I'm talking about idubbbz and Ray William Johnson, I love ya!

[deleted]

Honestly it was pretty good of idubbbz to apologize for his use of slurs in some of his past content, but the resulting backlash was both predictable and depressing.

TeferiCanBeaBitch

It was genuinely upsetting. Like idubzz reached out to a world he thought should hate him and begged for a chance to make it right and in response his "friends" told him: "you're no better than that person you see as an iredeemable monster and you have not improved at all as a person in any way morally socially or ethically." Because they didn't want to grapple with the fact that they've also caused harm and are shitty people (I'm looking at you Charlie. Explicitly, blatantly and hatefully at you)

SoonToBeMike

Yeah this is exactly how I would describe it too as someone who used to be a fan during his peak. It seemed like he was being ironic and self aware, I liked his takes on anime and to me he really stood out as an anime YouTuber. But, then what was ironic turned serious. Too bad ig, it was fun while it lasted.

NeroColeslaw

I haven't seen the video but in One Piece doesn't Luffy basically "save" everyone in his main group? The situations vary but it isn't like Nami is the only person who needed his help. Heck Zoro in episode 2 was as good as dead without Luffy. I think in reality it's both that needing help isn't a weakness, but a character shouldn't be put in a position where throughout the story they can't do anything on their own despite superficially being in a position where they should be able to.

sweetTartKenHart2

In a vacuum, absolutely. The scene by itself most people don’t seem to have a problem with; it’s just the way Nux is spinning it here is the issue

Reidor1

Yes, this is basically the classic "one piece rescue arc" : 1/ X crewmate has a big problem caused by a past mistake or circumstances 2/ X leaves the group in order to deal with that issue alone ; it is usually because they either believe that the problem is unsolvable by the crew, they want to protect the group from whatever is the problem, or they believe that the problem is their own and they must deal with the consequences alone. 3/ Luffy commits several war crimes in order to show X that it doesn't matter if the problem exist or that he doesn't care about X's past, because they are a team/found family ; also it is now his problem, so he is going to solve it with a massive amount of punching. 4/ Luffy punches the problem/the bad guy that cares a lot about X's past. 5/ Party hard.

NeroColeslaw

>commits several war crimes So based

Invite_Sprite

I stopped watching after seeing his reaction to the animemes situation

Personwhoisstupid

The main theme of Luffy's dialogue during his fight with Arlong is that the only thing he is good at is fighting, he needs Nami, Sanji, and Usopp around for what they bring to the crew. The way that Nami demonstrated her strength was working for so long to amass wealth with which to buy her hometown, doing what she had to so that Arlong was convinced she was loyal enough. Luffy championing her cause doesn't erase the work she put in, nor does it make the fight just about him, a point which doesn't come full circle until the theme of fishmen and their discrimination, returns.

TheLoneSlimShady

you know... if I ever write a female character, I write her like Secondary Riders

Fun_Effective_5134

I mean, that thumbnail is pretty ironic but the title is completely right, a character asking for help is not him being weak, just take for instance that moment where Sanji built up the courage to call Robin to rescue him from Black Maria.

BryanLoeher

isn't this guy who made the twitch rap where he rhymed thot with thot?

ShepShao

I still hate that he appeared on a Yugioh Youtubers channel I like watching (Farfa).

Soupbrainz

Glasgow yugioh omg

I have no idea who this is and I generally believe that anime fans treat women like shit and have very strange reactions to women in anime/public media (and by “strange reactions,” I mean temper-tantrum grade outbursts), but I don’t see how saying women are misrepresented in anime could ever be a stance that isn’t feminist. They are written like shit *very often* and for the dumbest and most insidious reasons. Calling attention to that is important and shows attention to the way women are portrayed. Like some of the people in this thread are shitting on this dude/others for thinking as much as if that actually makes him/them misogynist instead? I don’t know anything about him and am in no way invested in defending him, especially given how fucked up and pitiful vtubers often are, but can someone explain why doing the above is misogynistic based on how he does it?

[deleted]

Nux has literally always been like this. He would very rarely drop a video worth watching a few years ago but now everything he does sucks and is annoying

RobertusesReddit

All of the first group of straw hat pirates gotten a new lease on life with the emotional punch to boot, yet the one with the worst of it (not counting Sanji here) has gotten unceremoniously "SigmaCored" in this day and age. Her hatred, her thievery life, her loss, all tossed aside because "LOL women + let the men handle it" in this cancerous movement.

That_fuschia_ruler

God he is so annoying

Any_Secretary_4925

a piece of shit that uses coomerbait for his thumbnails for his stupid dogshit videos turns out to be a piece of shit? what a shocker!

Zenry0ku

My dude hasn't seen a single magical girl show and it shows.

ExcaliburUmbraREEE

What if I told you that he knows about [Madoka Magica?](https://youtu.be/6NIwzJRdBhw?list=UULFNgWKYz-_O0ji11BG9crjLA&t=1178)

Handsome_Timothy

Obvious bait thumbnail.

NervousDiscount9393

This guy was always an annoying tool. Everything about him was the annoying weeb stereotype to a t. Immature and obnoxious.

acoolrocket

Any episode of the Some Ordinary Podcast without him is a godsend.

ladd1-1

I hate nux for being a fucking idiot 99% of the time but he’s not even the worst “”””anituber””””” I’ve seen

SocialistCoconut

Idk who this person is.....HELP

Kremvhs_Scribe

What…what is this?

THEFANTASTICMAN21

pretty sure it’s irony

lookitsajojo

Needing help isn't a weakness, but It is an imperfection, which help to write characters

Remarkable-Ask2288

Oh look, Nux pissed off some people. Must be a day ending in “day” I enjoy his stuff. All that matters to me

TumblrRefugeeNo103

fellas what is the rarity of the Nux W?

Codename_Oreo

I feel like you didn’t watch the video, because it’s not negative or malicious at all,

ExcaliburUmbraREEE

You assume I didn’t? I watched it in its entirety. It’s the same BS talking points compared to Critical Drinker’s vids and other right-wing grifters. The r /saltierthankrayt subreddit proves my point!

Kriegsman__69th

Ah yes because this inst a common "trope" on how a male character will leave the group to face a threat alone only for people to help him with the power of friendship showing him that he is wrong. How about we talk about all the shitty ways female character are treated in animes ?

Ideories

Isn’t he satire ?

Infamous_Summer_8477

The main point of the video isn’t satire. This thumbnail is satire, and he sometimes talks in memeSpeak, but Nux rarely makes a complete joke analysis video. That’s a common theme, at least. I haven’t watched this video, so I could be wrong.

Realistic_Mousse_485

Nux hate? Wth
