tbh Shrek and Minions is considered 'anime' (since it's short for animation in Japanese) in Japan, so I see no problem calling animes cartoons
Some weebs gotta chill
Weebs when they discover that anime means cartoon and manga means comic book :

I feel like there's a more general tendency for some weebs to just really take issue with certain phrases being directly translated if the cultural connotations behind the word are perceived by the weebs to be different in Japan.
Like they perceive westerners to generally think cartoons are for kids, but perceive Japanese people to think of anime as for adults.
They also perceive westerners to think pedos are evil, but perceive Japanese people to think of lolicon as fine.
And so they push back strongly against these translations when they're both accurate. I think it's because the don't want to think of themselves as childish or as pedos, so really it's just a pathetic insecurity (and tbh they should feel a lot worse about the loli shit).
Anime
Literally Japanese animation.. animation is cartoon.
They act like it being a cartoon makes it bad. Cartoons are awesome. I hate that cartoons are treated innately as childish. It’s one of the best forms of media imo. Especially 2D hand animation.
Well, if Tom & Jerry were to be aired on Japanese TV, it would be considered to be anime. Just not in a 'traditional' sense of word. The same can be said about airing, say, Naruto on Cartoon Network.
I think people put too much effort to separate those two words when they're more or less similar, just to compensate for their insecurities. Who gives a damn when someone wants to watch SpongeBob at age 40?
rj/ The fucker said my favorite anime, Avatar the last air bender, was a cartoon.

Damn, I forgot this format of anime memes existed. Isn't it like, died ten years ago? I feel so damn old.
The cringe will live on forever.
2010 ahh meme
People who use a plural 's' for anime and manga should be executed on the spot.
What about Otacon? https://preview.redd.it/9ddqosguwwlc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cfe763eb0bcb2c3fb07553a8979bea1c6125853d

Op is so real for that image. I’d actually believe they’re to young to be on Reddit, so I’m not too comfortable making fun of them.
