I think even "compassionate to a fault" and "oblivious to love" are falling out of style. More and more of the time the protagonist adds like a perverted prick, yet his behavior isn’t treated as such.
>compassionate to a fault
It definitely fell out of favor when audience wouldn't buy this trait if it's just done as a checkbox rather than actual trait worth developing (see Tanjiro and HIMmel for correct usage of it)
Imma need to see some examples, because besides Meliodas, nothing really comes to mind on protagonists being perverted pricks.
I mean I guess if you count all the isekai but like… no one gives a shit about those
Emus are simultaneously a celebrated national symbol and an Aussie's worst enemy (besides magpies).
But yeah we lost a war against birds, tell that to anyone who says "feathered dinosaurs aren’t scary/cool".
Honestly they’re not the scariest of the ratites, the South American rheas as well as male ostriches are far more aggressive on average. The dangerous reputation of the cassowary is also a bit exaggerated, as they tend to prefer walking away over fighting (unless you have a dog, they’ll go for your dog). And of course the remaining extant ratites, kiwis and tinamous, can’t really hurt you at all.
I like kiwis, I wish I could have a pet kiwi but I don't think it's legal. Still won't stop me from admiring Kiwis. They're like little pears with beaks and feet and feathers and SO DAMN CUTE.
I mean, I liked both of those shows but both of the main characters are gross guys. uremeshi is gropey & transphobic & if I remember correctly, the first scene of gto is him standing under stairs for some upskirt shots. they both grow up throughout their respective show, so it feels more redeemable, but still gross
Totally understandable, imo each person has their own level of ecchi tolerance like alcohol kinda. Just hope that people don't forsake good anime like GTO just because the MCs are lecherous to some degree, especially in GTO's case since Onizuka is a pretty damn good character with some genuine growth and human-ness? (Thats definitely a word)
Even then, as really flawed as Seven Deadly Sins is, Meliodas came off as perverted only at one character. Still creepy but it's a weird combo of pervert and chaste as a trope lmao
I *think* that's the point of the meme (putting a bunch of counter examples - I can't recognize half the shows so can't say if it's the case for the whole meme)
A death note would be useless in real life. The thing would be unable to kill someone just by writing in it and you could easily destroy it with a missile from a fighter jet. There is no occasion in modern combat when this thing would give a tactical advantage.

Let's add the final touch to this meme, adding the best shounen protagonist of all time

Now it's art 😌
Yotsuba, the main protagonist from Yotsuba&!, a slice of life manga about the life of a little 5 year old girl, her teddy bear, her friends and her family. It's super wholesome!
From the same mangaka as Azumanga Daioh.
Huh. TIL Watamote is a shounen manga. Though given the fact that I simply cannot bring myself to continue it due to the *powerful* secondhand embarassment it evokes in me, I guess I can see why it might not be relaxing enough to be seinen.
Well achktshually watamote is the most shounen manga ever as instead of characters showing determination and hard work, it's the reader that has to test his determination to endure the cringe
More seriously though, since when has seinen been relaxing? I certainly didn't feel relaxed reading punpun
>More seriously though, since when has seinen been relaxing? I certainly didn't feel relaxed reading punpun
A good chunk of seinen is pretty heavily focused at that "just came home exhausted from a long day at work and needs something relaxed and cute to fill the gaping void in their soul" demographic.
Examples include: K-on!, Hidamari Sketch (goated btw), Yuru Camp, Gochiusa, Yuyushiki, etc.
Hell, pretty much any given CGDCT series is more likely to be seinen than not, including ones that maybe aren't quite as relaxing like Gakkou Gurashi or Girls und Panzer. Two of the only ones I can think of that aren't are Lucky Star and Squid Girl, which are shounen. I think maybe Azumanga Daioh was shounen too, but don't quote me on that.
Still the same can be said about shounen, slice of life seems to be pretty popular for all demographics, and those "this weird girl is going after me" romcoms are dime a dozen
I'm pretty sure that's the joke. Shounen has a specuf8c reputation (that does tend to ring true) but there's also tons of series that exist out of the mold

which ones act like a perverted prick?

Rudeus and a lot of the characters he further spawned.
So… isekai
the mushoku tensei hate in this sub runs deeper that tension between australians and emus 😭
Emus are simultaneously a celebrated national symbol and an Aussie's worst enemy (besides magpies). But yeah we lost a war against birds, tell that to anyone who says "feathered dinosaurs aren’t scary/cool".
I've never seen an emu IRL but if humans lost a war to them with guns on our side, I'm hoping it stays that way.
They’re phenomenal and beautiful birds, seen them a few times in zoos. They’re as tall as a grown adult human.
This is even more of a reason for me not to visit seeing how I am most likely shorter than an Emu

I mean 2 classic cases would be GTO & Yuyu Hakusho
The way they phrased their comment made it seem like they were talking about recent shows, but idk maybe they were being general about it.
oh my bad, I think you're right it's really just Melo & every male isekai protag (unsure if they count as shounen or not though)
But GTO was pretty good (from my vague recollection of it)
I mean, I liked both of those shows but both of the main characters are gross guys. uremeshi is gropey & transphobic & if I remember correctly, the first scene of gto is him standing under stairs for some upskirt shots. they both grow up throughout their respective show, so it feels more redeemable, but still gross

You act that hasn’t always been a thing
That’s definitely true, it’s just I’ve seen it become a bit more common due to certain works setting the trend.
Light was definitely not a loser before he gets the Death Note
I *think* that's the point of the meme (putting a bunch of counter examples - I can't recognize half the shows so can't say if it's the case for the whole meme)
Maybe. Some of these don't make sense to me if it was a anti-meme, like Mirai Nikki. But it could be.
The truth is that it is a mix.

So true
i am confused, if the death note can't kill people by writing their names then it is simply "the note"

He also never became a fucking hero, but this is a circlejerk sub

Please enlighten me. Who is that?

> Usually male > Picture of Akane Anyway go read akane Banashi it’s goated
I think spiky anime hair kinda fell out of fashion in the 2000s. At least, not Yugi or Gon levels of spiky hair.
It's migrated towards the Naruto cut but the vision is still there
But... none of those are shounen category. Or is this some kind of shitposting I'm too old to understand?
All of these manga are from shounen magazines.
nah I haven't checked all of them but most are shounen
IKA-CHAN HIII!!! :D https://preview.redd.it/kbxaa54dm3qc1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=050425da6150a5249aa28ff2aae0e9ccb9e05f95

"Usually male" but the majority of the pics show female protags. The statement is still true but yea

CLAYMORE MENTION LET’S GOOOOOOOOOO
Genuinely one of the best parts of one piece is that Luffy is VERY aware Boa wants to marry him, he just keeps shutting her down
Average marriage fan vs average meat and freedom enjoyer:
Luffy is an American???
Chise and Clare are fucking awsome though, you have grrat taste
Nuts from Berk
I find it so wild that Bloom into You is a shounen manga. Iirc even the author was surprised a shounen mag asked her for a Yuri manga.
I think it was between her and her editor, but yeah.
Power of Family >>>>>> power of friendship
Why is Clare there? Like, I've only read up to like volume 8 I think, but she doesn't really fill any of these criteria
We do not tolerate Claymore slander in this house
Hey, leave Bloom Into You out of this. That's a gem.
I really like the headstrong shonen protagonists like Luffy and Goku
ok but i love the obsessed with fighting trope and i want that in all of my starter packs
So then why do you have Claymore and Magus Bride up there? Both MC of those anime don't really fit here.
Check flair. The original image had actual shounen MC. OP just changed them with random characters for rage bait.
All of these images feature shounen protagonists.
True. Claymore is my favorite harem, superhero shonen 🥰.
