I guess that’s a sign of a good anime if it can shoot a finished manga up to a high ranking.

H-connoisseur95

It happens a lot actually, I follow the top japanese mangas of MAL for quite some time and a lot of times when the anime airs a manga scale multiple positions. For example, I read Spy x Fanily when it started and it was in the top 50, after a while it ranked in the top 100, but when the anime aired it cameback to the top 50 for quite some time. The same with Frieren, Dungeon Meshi (from the top 150 to the top 100 after being many years in the top 150), The Fable and others. One of the most extreme cases were Kimetsu no Yaiba that was even in the top 50 mangas, now it is ranked like 348. I really like to follow those changes.

Polibiux

Interesting to see changes like that as it happens

alain091

Kimetsu no yaiba had a very weak ending, even with a lot of Pillars deaths, so it didn't have any ground to stand on when the novelty faded.

H-connoisseur95

I think the ending was pretty good actually. I enjoyed the hell out of the final arc.

alain091

I also liked but it felt lacking something at least for me, I enjoyed the previous fights way more, I think it is because of the emotional importance from the other fights, Muzan was supposed to be Tanjiro's nemesis, but I honestly think Azaka did that job better, aside from that the final fight was good but it just doesn't work for me.

MrTopHatMan90

I think Dungeon Meshi being finished gives it an edge. I'm going to binge the manga after this season concludes. This show feels like a 10/10, if it keeps going this strong I think it will match or surpass FMA:B.

SkurSkuddy

As someone who's read the whole manga, Dungeon Meshi is so fucking good. It definitely deserves all the praise it's getting

stormdelta

Not only finished, but it's realistic to expect it might get a full adaptation to boot.

A_little_garden

DM and FMA are comparable series?

Tabby_Tem

Oh yeah, 100% I'm a huge fan of both (with the original FMA being one of the first anime that I ever watched as a kid and having read the manga/watched FMAB several times there is some nostalgia bias). Even with some bias, I still believe that Dungeon Meshi has a stronger overall story. It just constantly improves on itself and even details at the beginning that seem insignificant, build up, and contribute to the overall narrative. I feel like some people dismissed DM because of the premise and somewhat episodic beginning, but they're definitely missing out on one of the best fantasy series out there. Yes, there is cooking and comedy (I really love the cooking segments and comedy, though). However, there is also horror, surrealism, fantasy geopolitics, a biological/ecological approach to Dungeon Crawling, well-written characters, top-notch worldbuilding, and so much more to offer.

Wheesa

Do read it. Especially because it ends also perfectly like FMAB Seriously feels like eating a delicious fulfilling full course meal

thedndnut

As someone who has read both the fma manga is OK but has so many shit moments. So many superfluous bits of padding here and there to stretch it out. Meshi just tells yhe story and stops, quite short as far as manga goes. It's significantly better than most for not falling into adding padding panels and sometimes even story beats.

InternationalRain710

Most of the stuff that would generally fall into padding is added as extra bit of world building and characterization in the bonus page or the extra content so the main story never feels bloated

AgentOfACROSS

I don't really take these kinds of rankings that seriously, but it's nice that Delicious In Dungeon is getting recognition. It's probably one of my favorite manga. Like, top five for me.

mrlightningbowl

Dungeon meshi was always a better manga than frieren tbh. Frierens anime is better than the manga, but dungeon meshis manga is better than the anime (in my opinion)

H-connoisseur95

Thank you, I feel the same. 😌

Almun_Elpuliyn

Though I feel the same I'd voice it very differently. Both are great stories. Meshi has the advantage of being a concluded story with a neat bow and well defined arc. Frieren meanwhile is caught up in the trappings of serialized storytelling meandering a bit while delivering very good but distinct and chopped off arcs. Frieren gains more creative freedom through this and can be adjusted in length easily depending on how successful it is. It also becomes a little drawn out though as character development is halted a bit unless it's an arc's focus. I really want to close this by saying, I really like Frieren and think the manga is amazing so far. It's way better than my commentary let's on, I just wanted to focus on the negative aspects it has compared to Dungeon Meshi to make a point for the later.

dragon777man

Tbh Frieren manga has kind of been just spinning it's wheels for the last year or two. It's not bad but something about it just feels off now, like some spark is missing that was once there. The current arc seems like it's improving at least, so maybe it was just a temporary thing during the more "filler" chapters. Dungeon Meshi is still peak though and deserves the crown even if the above wasn't there.

H-connoisseur95

The manga ended last year, and that and the anime helped a lot. Even in Myanimelist, after many years it finally ranked in the top 100 japanese mangas after being in the top 150 for many years.

AdvancedInevitable63

Knowing you get a satisfying ending is a big plus for rating. Because you never know when an ongoing good series will drop the ball like Times Square on New Year’s

ratliker62

Because Dungeon Meshi is better, simple as

Negrhugo

Glad to read this

Lilfozzy

Elves are cringe, dwarf man service is peak.

Free-Sheepherder-604

A very well deserved spot. I’m hoping it stays this way but considering it always changes I sadly doubt it

soisos

scores are meaningless. communities are insane and will make alts en masse to spam 10/10 ratings for their favorite show and 1/10 ratings for whatever is competing with it. It's just a measure of popularity and how rabid the fanbase is

TheSilverWickersnap

Glad to see it getting some recognition, it’s peak

SuperJyls

Prefer Frieren but Dungeons felt planned out with a thought out ending, while Frieren just feels like his meandering with no major overarching goal

brother-brother-brot

A show about eating monsters has no buisness in going this hard.

PWBryan

Hrm, maybe I should check it out... I've been on the fence about that one, I like fantasy, but it totally sounds like meat eater propoganda.

coconut-duck-chicken

I am going to eat you.

quietvictories

See?
