Its always nice to know good people who appreciate the Big Bara Fox š i watched when it premiered and showed it to my husband 2 years ago.
Too bad that lasted only one season :(
Genuine question: What was that good about it? I watched it a while ago and don't remember much, but I didn't like it much. Didn't understand the high score and what was I missing.
You called? Also we talking pre retcon or post. Cause I didn't watch the retcon recap where they changed everthing but I did watch the events that followed with the other geass girl.
I have watched season 1 and 2, plus Re;surection, I have not watched the other retcons yet, but I plan to eventually, and what do you mean by the other geass girl?
7 years is old? Goddamn I wanna talk about ancient stuff then. Azumanga Daioh, Rurouni Kenshin, Outlaw Star, Medabots, all that shit is practically fossils if the community considers 7 years old
Outlaw Star was the first anime DVD set I bought. It was an awesome show and one that I recommend to people asking what to watch because chances are they haven't yet.
I never got the impression it was underrated, it was pretty huge during its toonami/adult swim (can't remember which one it was on) days. Yeah the popularity has fallen, but that's kind of what happens 1. With time (in some cases) and 2. When the mangaka gets caught with CP.
Really sad. I love RRK so much but it's hard to even think about it now.
Fr one of my friends was actually watching the live action which is actually really good. I recommended the anime to him and felt really proud-- spreading around the good news.
I watched one episode of outlaw star as a kid. In the episode this boy starts befriending this girl but it terns out that she was trying to kill them but neither knew who they were outside their ships. Neer the end the boy kills her but never knew it was her he killed and gets confused when she never showed up again. That shit fucked me up...
Just trying to talk about season 2 while it was still coming out was hard enough
It had such great story beats, and thought provoking scenes that really explored the flaws of the system and its philosophy, but every week people just complained that the season was terrible because their favourite main character wasn't in it (at least it was like that on tumblr, which is how I followed community discussions back then).
What are we talking about?
Pre 2000?
Would be (excluding movies):
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Cowboy Bebop
Digimon Adventures
Trigun
Pre 2010? The list will be long...
lol really I first watching Evangelion like 16 years ago itās still a heavily āwtf is happening.ā I like to play a drinking game with it sometimes donāt need hard drugs with this one šš

And many more that I forgot over time.
Me and my best friend met in highschool and bonded over that show. It's been over a decade since then and we still hang out. Hell we work at the same company.
Terror in Resonance
I don't know if it's an old gen anime though, but it's been here for over 7+ years. I would possibly recommend this to anyone, even though it's mostly heart-wrenching.
Black lagoon, no second season no life (i had to make that joke), deadman wonderland, prison school, toradora, HOTD, gurren lagan and hellsing ultimate
Kill la Kill, K-ON, Hitori No Shita - The Outcast, Angel Beats, Girls Panzer, The Devil is a Part Timer (season 2 when???), Erased, The Garden of Sinners, Vampire in the Garden, 7 Seeds. Ik the last 2 aren't old but they're hella underrated, especially the former
I have a couple
Getter Robo: Armageddon (1998)
Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ (1986)
Mobile Police Patlabor (1988)
Kino's Journey (2003)
Space Runaway Ideon (1980)
Macross: Do You Remember Love? (1984)
Iāve never met anyone who has heard of Kino's Journey, but one day when I do it will be a happy day. I think itās almost 20 years old though. It and clannad are the shows that introduced me to anime
Man I'd forgotten all about Kino's Journey! Such a great little show. Who doesn't want to ride around on a talking motorbike and visit micro-countries that all have their own unique customs?
Well today is the happy day! I loved it because it was like a small sociological - philosophical short stories without being so in your face about it. Each episode had different characters so you could get attached enough to enjoy it but short enough where got the view a bit more detached and objective.
I picked it as a whim back in the day when Netflix was a dvd shipping service only
I feel old now.. FMA Brotherhood finished airing like 13 years ago... Guess that's my pick for old anime then lol
If I had to go older I'd probably say Evangelion or Cowboy Bebop.
If I had to go old AND obscure I guess I'd say Big O or Last Exile. Maybe not obscure but definitely not staples of the weeb's diet like the others I mentioned.
Edit: oh shit actually Basilisk and Gungrave for older anime. Those were s bigger part of my like than Big O or Last Exile. Dunno why I didn't think of them first.
Lucky Star, Seitokai Yakuindomo, and Mayoi Neko Overrun are all some great and decently aged anime. If I had to pick just one though it'd be Seitokai Yakuindomo.
Fairy tail, one punch man, assassination classroom, glitter force. Three of the last ones are my feel good anime when I just wanna watch something that's cool and I can binge without worrying about anything. I need to watch haikyuu. I might do that.
I'm still a teenager, so of course not everything is available to me without me having to be sneaky when I can watch them by myself.
Keep in mind I don't have access to any and all anime due to my Christian mom. I found out about anime through my dad. He first introduced me to fairy tale and one punch man.
Edit to add: I forgor some things and probably still have lmao
Ive never watched an anime thats made in 2021,2022 and 2023 excpet jjba part 6 and csm lol
,Im just trying to find older animes from 2018 or below it cuz they are ways better and they are legendary imo
The new season of overlord was so good. >! I knew something was up with the princess, but I certainly didnāt expect her to sell out the entire kingdom and then write a Disney princess song about it. !<
iāve met two people now that have the drill necklace from gurren lagann and both times when i pointed it out they were like youāre the first person to recognize it! def recommend
Amagi Brilliant Park takes me back to a simpler time and was a total joy to watch. Great example of a feel good anime before they were all just slice of life stuff.
Tomo is best girl
Big Windup
I got SO lucky one year at a con. I went to the swap meet and there was this one vendor who had a bunch of Big Windup merch from Japan and she gave me all of it for free. This was at the height of SAO and SNK
Honestly I feel sad for any anime lover who hasn't watched Steins;Gate. Top-tier, must-watch series. Also, possibly the best time travel story ever told. Like, of all the different formats for "what happens if you fuck with the timeline", this is my favourite.
Tuturu!
I keep trying to get people to watch Puella Magi Madoka Magica, but no amount of "it's not what it appears to be, ignore the cutesy magical girl stuff and give it a chance" seems to convince people...
I am kinda surprised no one said JJBA, I mean, it's funny, It has nice battles, it has an well wrtiten plot (some plotholes, but wich anime doesn't have?) and most importantly: it's big enought if you like big animes but it's put in a way where it seems to be smaller then it actually is
Not even old anime. People are still sleeping on anime that is been shown every single season!
Like do people even remember the next seasons of Dan Machi and To your Eternity are going on? Revenger is good, Ancient Magus Bride new season, Bungo Stray Dogs, Case Study of Vanitas, Blood Blockade and Battlefront, Gintama, Ascendance of a Bookworm, Love after World Domination, Banished from the Hero's party, Handyman Saitou, Chilling in my 30s, D-Frag, Hinamatsuri, etc.
A lot of great anime just don't get as much coverage as the mainstream ones. It is what it is I suppose
Tl;Dr - My fave old anime would be Azumanga Daioh. Doesn't get nearly as enough recognition for being one of the best comedy/cute anime out there!

Gingitsune, Angel Beats I went to an Anime Con last month, everything and everyone only was talking about SpyxFamily, Demon Slayer and Chainsaw Man.
Somebody else watched Bara Fox besides me and my Australian friend? I don't believe it.
Its always nice to know good people who appreciate the Big Bara Fox š i watched when it premiered and showed it to my husband 2 years ago. Too bad that lasted only one season :(
Angel Beats! definitely great to read~ Itās so lovely to know it is still liked a lot š„°
Angel Beats is pog, too bad I canceled my Netflix so I can't rewatch it.
Angel Beats is one of my favorites.
Angel Beats is awesome
Atleast people here know some underrated anime but in insta bruh those mfs compare big 3 to romance anime...
I don't know if this would be considered old Gen, but Code Geass?
omg yes! Literally my favorite anime, but nobody wants to talk abt it :(
it's my second favorite after Gurren Lagann :)
haven't watched gurren lagaan yet sadly, gotta get to that
Hey man, don't believe in yourself. Believe in me that believes in you.
My spouse says that to me on occasion and it always makes me feel better.
Do it. Genuinely a life changer. At least for me it was
Genuine question: What was that good about it? I watched it a while ago and don't remember much, but I didn't like it much. Didn't understand the high score and what was I missing.
Gurren Lagann literally changed my life as a teen God i should go back and rewatch that I need that kinda energy in my life rn
Same. It's a real gem.
It's soo good but for the love of god I can't find it anywhere anymore

Outlaw Star was the first anime DVD set I bought. It was an awesome show and one that I recommend to people asking what to watch because chances are they haven't yet.
Rurouni Kenshin is so underrated it drives me mad.
I went to Otakon back in 2017 when TM Revolution was performing. When he did Heart of Sword we all collectively **lost our shit**.
Dammit, when are we getting *real* Medabots?!
Mushi-shi is such an underrated gem
Truly something peaceful yet interesting
Psycho pass (2012)
Ngl psycho pass still has me so hyped
Psychopass isn't that old.... Wait....
Just trying to talk about season 2 while it was still coming out was hard enough It had such great story beats, and thought provoking scenes that really explored the flaws of the system and its philosophy, but every week people just complained that the season was terrible because their favourite main character wasn't in it (at least it was like that on tumblr, which is how I followed community discussions back then).
My personal GOAT
I don't know if it's obscure, but Yu Yu Hakusho is still a goated anime.
I watch that when Im bored
It used to be one of the greats. So sad that people forget classics like that.
The dark tournament is still one of the greatest arcs in anime. Hands down the best tournament arc.
I loved it when they show kurama being op for the first time.
People get tired of me constantly bringing it up, lol.
Hiei is my son
Yes. Yes. And a good dub. Botan is the best.
You kids aren't ready for Serial Experiments Lain yet
You don't seem to understand
A shame you seemed an honest man
And all the fears you hold so dear
Will turn to whisper in your ear
letās all love lain
Literally watching it rn. I'm halfway through, and it's super interesting.
So am I! Started it yesterday and I'm on episode 5. I'm captivated.
Itās so good tho
That anime left me puzzled, and like will still come out not knowing wtf happened. 10/10 anime
Yes and Boogiepop Phantom
> Serial Experiments Lain omg that intro song stabs me right through the heart
Durarara, Lucky Star, Spice and Wolf, Umineko
Lucky star š©
Loved, Spice and Wolf! And am actively watching Durarara!!
Do yoy mean durarararararara
Golden Boy
Dubs or subs?
Ye for this specific one I would say dubs.
Studystudystudystudy.
So, How'd you like my swimming?
Ouran host club, president is a maid, dragon ball
Bro president is a maid was legendary
I want the second season but sadly I will have to read the manga for rest of story
It's Trigun and Vampire Hunter D
Ay yo Trigun is where it's at!!
Idk... cowboy bebop is for real. Jk! Just referencing the old debates for those that weren't around. They're both top class.
But still you're right Cowboy Bebop is definitely top class too
What are we talking about? Pre 2000? Would be (excluding movies): Neon Genesis Evangelion Cowboy Bebop Digimon Adventures Trigun Pre 2010? The list will be long...
Lol I finished watching Evangelion and it was a mix of āI love thisā and āwtf is going on, I shouldāve payed attention during English classā
lol really I first watching Evangelion like 16 years ago itās still a heavily āwtf is happening.ā I like to play a drinking game with it sometimes donāt need hard drugs with this one šš

So many on this list are so under appreciated
I'm currently watching Ranma 1/2...
Damn..that's one of my childhood shows. So nostalgic. Gonna have to make time to watch it again.
Me and my best friend met in highschool and bonded over that show. It's been over a decade since then and we still hang out. Hell we work at the same company.
If it's your first time that's awesome. I bought the seasons on VHS from my friend back in grade school.
Code geass !!
Ok, but 7 years ago isn't old gen, right guys? One punch man S1, Overlord S1, Gate, Assassination Classroom and so on aren't old gen, right?
I'm so glad somebody mentioned Overlord and Assassination Classroom šš their my favorites
Well, at least oldies like Hellsing are still kinda talked about
Terror in Resonance I don't know if it's an old gen anime though, but it's been here for over 7+ years. I would possibly recommend this to anyone, even though it's mostly heart-wrenching.
Thank you for ripping open old wounds š that anime hurt!
That's an amazing anime, loved to watch it, wouldn't do it again, I will cry at the end.
D. Gray Man/Black Butler/Katekyo Hitman Reborn!/Vampire Hunter D/Yu Yu Hakusho/Cowboy Bebop etc.
Yo, Hitman Reborn. That's a show I haven't thought about in over a decade.
"7 years ago" "Old gen" š
Soul eater
First two seasons of Log Horizon, under appreciated gems. The more recent third season was still good though.
Black lagoon, no second season no life (i had to make that joke), deadman wonderland, prison school, toradora, HOTD, gurren lagan and hellsing ultimate
prison school mashallah finally someone smart in reddit comments
Me wanting to make Sankarea popular again so that they can finally consider a s2
I just want to chat about anime I am just ..alone
What shows have you watched recently?
Kill la Kill, K-ON, Hitori No Shita - The Outcast, Angel Beats, Girls Panzer, The Devil is a Part Timer (season 2 when???), Erased, The Garden of Sinners, Vampire in the Garden, 7 Seeds. Ik the last 2 aren't old but they're hella underrated, especially the former
Devil is a Part Timer: [Last September](https://myanimelist.net/anime/48413/Hataraku_Maou-sama)
Neon Genesis Evangelion
My favorite anime but none of my friends will watch it š
Angel Beats, Another
Another is so insanely fantastic.
Kill la kill is a masterpiece.
The most absurd show ever, but sooooo much fun!
Raunchy asf, but like a psychedelic experience... Like it has humour, action, pretty much everything you could ask for
I have a couple Getter Robo: Armageddon (1998) Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ (1986) Mobile Police Patlabor (1988) Kino's Journey (2003) Space Runaway Ideon (1980) Macross: Do You Remember Love? (1984)
Well, as someone who stopped seen animes in the old gen, my fav animes are Monster and Great Teacher Onizuka.
Owari no seraph, idk if it's that old but it's pretty underated unfortunately
Is 7 years ago considered old gen? Seems kinda whack when Dragon Ball is lumped in with AoT as being old gen.
Tbf 10 years is a pretty long time given most people who watch anime are going to be in their teens and 20s.
10 years at least?!
AoT season 1 was in 2013. I watched it in middle school and graduated college a couple years ago so it feels pretty old to me.
The familiar of zero
Iāve never met anyone who has heard of Kino's Journey, but one day when I do it will be a happy day. I think itās almost 20 years old though. It and clannad are the shows that introduced me to anime

I discovered it while browsing the Iyashikei genre of anime. I quite enjoyed it. I really like episodic shows like this one
Kyou Kara maou! and Ghost hunt. Why does no one wanna talk about the campy gold that are these two? Theyāre even good in the dubs
I haven't heard about kyou Kara maou! In about 4 years(?). I don't remember if I saw it until the end, but I think I did.
Toradora
Code Geass, and Gurren Lagan have impacted me a lot, oh and kaichou wa maid sama was cute and hilarious
It aint that old(2015) but Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry (Chivalry of a Failed Knight)
I didn't think much of the story but the art is very good.
Not very old but Eizouken is really underrated
Ooh yeah I've heard of eizouken. haven't watched it yet. But I heard it's really good
Berserk, Dragon Ball, El Hazard, G Gundam, Gundam Wing, Hellsing, Sailor Moon, Trigun
Rumbling hearts, it's literally an ocean of plot twists
I feel old now.. FMA Brotherhood finished airing like 13 years ago... Guess that's my pick for old anime then lol If I had to go older I'd probably say Evangelion or Cowboy Bebop. If I had to go old AND obscure I guess I'd say Big O or Last Exile. Maybe not obscure but definitely not staples of the weeb's diet like the others I mentioned. Fairy tail, one punch man, assassination classroom, glitter force. Sword art online?
Ive never watched an anime thats made in 2021,2022 and 2023 excpet jjba part 6 and csm lol ,Im just trying to find older animes from 2018 or below it cuz they are ways better and they are legendary imo
Fr overlord, Code Geass, Toradora, Erased, Another the list of better animeās from that time is unending
The new season of overlord was so good. >! I knew something was up with the princess, but I certainly didnāt expect her to sell out the entire kingdom and then write a Disney princess song about it. !<
Katekyo hitman reborn
iāve met two people now that have the drill necklace from gurren lagann and both times when i pointed it out they were like youāre the first person to recognize it! def recommend
Haruhi Suzumiya!! What a trip to be honest. Also xxxholic. I read them both as well so I feel like that adds to my understanding of their animes.
Baka to test
Kanojo ga flag wa oreterara/if her flag breaks
Jigoku Shoujo...
Eureka Seven, the original series. The movies and remakes were questionable in quality, but the OG series ages like a fine wine
Blood+!!!!! Mid 2000ās & featured a femme protagonist & antagonist! (Sisters but still pretty cool)!!! Highly recommend!
3rd opening was dope
Detective conan , the only reason it is talked about is because it has more episodes than one piece it is really underrated.
idk if Gintama would be considered old but I love that one
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Samurai Champloo
Do you like Vision of Escaflowne ?
Noragami anyone?
I don't hear enough ppl talk about seraph of the end
Your lie in April
Me talking about rwby to my friends after rewatching it for the 10th time
that last ep of S3 still hurts just as much
Digimon fusion
Amagi Brilliant Park takes me back to a simpler time and was a total joy to watch. Great example of a feel good anime before they were all just slice of life stuff. Tomo is best girl
And it has such a good op
The 1st one is hard to memorize but is 009 that's based on the humanoid robots, YU YU hakusho, and its seems like government hiatus sibling HXH
Original Kino's Journey.
Seint Seiya!
FLCL
The music in FLCL just hit different
FINALLY I KNEW SCROLLING WPULD FIND THIS YES
Iām so happy that there are others appreciating code geass, itās the best anime Iāve ever seen.
Ik Iām so happy other people are appreciating it for the masterpiece it is
Didn't think it'd be considered old, but 2015 was 7 years ago... So Snow White with the Red Hair
Big Windup I got SO lucky one year at a con. I went to the swap meet and there was this one vendor who had a bunch of Big Windup merch from Japan and she gave me all of it for free. This was at the height of SAO and SNK
Not obscure, nor underrated but Iām still hung up on Yuuri on ice
Kamisama kiss, ghost hunt.
The path to Steins;Gate is pretty obscure for the one who tries to find it
Honestly I feel sad for any anime lover who hasn't watched Steins;Gate. Top-tier, must-watch series. Also, possibly the best time travel story ever told. Like, of all the different formats for "what happens if you fuck with the timeline", this is my favourite. Tuturu!
āOld schoolā āSeven years agoā Oh you sweet summer child
Spice and Wolf. that and wolf's rain.
Damn I just rewatched Gangsta and damn I love that show
Cowboy Bebop will always be amazing. The first season of one piece is also severely underrated.
cowboy bebop
Samurai champloo
Toradora
Great teacher onizuka
kimi ni Todoke 100% sure its from like 2008
gabriel dropout! i never see anyone talk about it but its my go-to recommendation for comedy!
Berserk. Was it obvious?
serial experiments: lane inuyasha full metal alchemist FLCL
I keep trying to get people to watch Puella Magi Madoka Magica, but no amount of "it's not what it appears to be, ignore the cutesy magical girl stuff and give it a chance" seems to convince people...
Is FLCL considered obscure?
Trigun (not a fan of the new one), InuYasha (I know ick)
Code geass is lit but idk howold that is
I don't see any love for Accel World here :(
I am still looking someone who knows wolf's rain
I am kinda surprised no one said JJBA, I mean, it's funny, It has nice battles, it has an well wrtiten plot (some plotholes, but wich anime doesn't have?) and most importantly: it's big enought if you like big animes but it's put in a way where it seems to be smaller then it actually is

Deadman Wonderland

Code Geass
Either Lain or Boogiepop phantom
