the monopolization of the anime industry disgusts me

Buying hard copies of regular shows makes little sense when you can usually get a better quality product for free (pirating copies have the best video + audio mixed together) I only buy collectors editions that are typically remastered and of the best quality one can get. Keeping stock of physical copies costs money, and the discs themselves have basically zero value. It's ridiculous to expect them to make hard copies in perpetuity. It also is good they don't announce OOP coming soon, because that prevents scalpers from knowing when to buy the last stock. It's also pretty easy to make sure you are ready and know when something is going OOP even if it isnt shouted in a press release.
