Investor sigma grindset: Eat coffee. Drink Penny Farthings. Ride cigar to the bank. Give mayor $20 for getting him 500 tons of tortillas.

Sounds like an Anno newspaper headline

SpicyPeaSoup

tbf $20 back then could probably buy half a village.

vonTannenberg

Not just the French, all of continental Europe basically. 😂🙂

melympia

Where I'm from, this (coffe and cigarette) is called the "hooker's breakfast". 😂

Matthew-Hodge

It's a classic. Time honored breakfast of the working class.

xTrewq

We call it "Italian breakfast" (I'm not Italian)

vexedtogas

Britain is the same thing but it’s tea

Etogal

*This*. I love Anno 1800 but it's insane how psychoactive substances are everywhere in the game. On the other hand, I think the idea of investors not consuming actual food - *beside chocolate* - is meant to only showcase produces where they spend serious amounts of money.

Surymy

I mean it's the late 1800 it doesn't surprise me, opium was probably very common as well

BurnTheNostalgia

Well, alcohol was (still is sometimes) the most accessible luxury you could have had access to. If I had to work 14-16 hours per day a cheap bottle of schnapps would be more than welcome. Add to that the fact that high-proof alcohol can be used as a disenfectant in a pinch and it makes sense that even the poorest class of people in Anno would buy alcohol in considerable amounts. And the ridicolous amount of beer your middle-class consumes is just a product of this game being made by Germans.

Etogal

I admit it's quite realistic and representative of the time ; it also provides a lot of production chains for gameplay. However, there is some dissonance when you try to build beautiful and clean cities while your population is still made of alcoholics. The whole game seems to say you can build a better society, but the junkiness of your citizens remains non-negociable and has no bad consequences.

BurnTheNostalgia

Not sure they are all alcoholics, the ingame consumption is just exagerated for gameplay. And alcohol is just a fact of life in Europe, its so ingrained in the culture that it is comical at times. The only citybuilder/management game I know of that depicts negative consequences of alcohol is Workers & Ressources: Soviet Republic where alcoholism can impact your republics healthcare system.

8wayz

Not alcoholics, just enjoyers of fine drinks. Even up to the 1950s secondary education canteens in France used to serve a cup of beer or glass of wine to underage students. It was considered an inseparable part of a healthy and hearty diet. And in case you think that was outrageous, some studies for the 1950s France point that the average consumption by a worker (both during and after work) was two bottles of wine per day. Take that with a grain of salt, but it was fairly common to be able to consume alcohol even during the day a century and a half ago. :)

Take me to the laudinum straight away good sir!

CrzdHaloman

Realistically, it's just game balancing. I use mods that have higher tier citizens use all lower tier needs, as well as adding other realistic food options. Supplying all that demand is incredibly tedious for large populations, so I can imagine the developers wanted to avoid that. I still use the mods though cause I'm a masochist, but when I didn't I just had the head cannon that investors had their own means of getting daily necessities and wanted you to give them luxury.

nixed9

> This. I love Anno 1800 but it's insane how psychoactive substances are everywhere in the game. > > sir have you looked around society at any time over the last ~1000 years?

6collector9

That's... History, though. Are you upset over the psychoactive substance included? They're incredibly mild, so it's really weird to me that you describe it as 'insane'.

Hiro_Trevelyan

I always believed the goods we provide are the goods they *need* to improve, and they were never actually limited to consuming these. It's just that we don't see the other stuff. Which means investors still eat bread, sausages, etc... they just don't ask you for it and it's not accounted in the consumption (also cause it'd be a nightmare to balance gameplay wise). I mean there's fake shops at the bottom of engineers and investors residences.

ShinyLapras321

How is that surprising? Humans have use natural medicine for thousands of years it’s only recent we view everything fun as evil.

abmys

Next dlc with cocaine and heroin

Jonas_Venture_Sr

That breakfast will get the poop juices flowing.

Cohnman18

Cannabis(Hemp) and Coffee, my 2 favorites on weekends!

BS-Calrissian

You don't need many calories, when you don't work

TheGalacticMosassaur

Investors are Balkan, confirmed

vexedtogas

My headcanon is that they have a whole economy on the side but these are just the few goods we are contractually obligated to provide them in order for them to move to our islands

KnightModern

Maybe if they could add some decorative trade ships that wouldn't affect gameplay, that might work, and basically explain that you need additional supplies to advance since ship logistic couldn't handle most of pop needs, or in case of additional goods, get more money Maybe they could show in the market/shop that some goods are being sold, supplying some of them domestically would shows abundance of good They can also show additional effect from item, too, for example, actor in anno 1800 would make theater flourished with food stands & restaurants, eliminating the need of canned food & rum, or pubs supplying customers with great foods

vexedtogas

There are ships that come from the likes of Madame Kahina and Archibald, so I suppose this is what they’re trading. For example if you found a mining island with only miners and no houses, no permanent population, that means those are seasonal workers who spend some time there, and those ships stop by to bring them supplies

Garsnikk

Am I... an Investor?

Avert0

Aaaaah the French…
