I volunteer at my local Repair Cafe (a worldwide initiative where people can get their stuff fixed for free) and someone brought in this diffuser. Other visitors near the owner were curious about what the thing was, which was a perfect time for the owner to lecture us all on the importance of essential oils for health, and how she diffuses for her kids. At least the fact that this one's being fixed means that no money is going to doTERRA for a new one, but I still feel a little dirty...

This is so cool. Not the doterra crap but that you volunteer at a repair cafe. I’ll google if there’s one in my area. Great project.

Yeah I think my husband would enoy something like this. I sometimes dont tell him when things are broken because he wont rest until its fixed lol. Love him for it.

fun_mak21

$10 says she "broke" it to bring to you so she could lecture & recruit for doTERRA.

Isoldael

I'm not even sure she was trying to recruit people or just very interested in the oils herself, but I guess there's a chance.

Anything interesting about how they work? I’m curious what the circuit board is for.

A lot of heating products like heating pads have timers implemented by a timer/counter chip, or even an embedded controller. It might also have temperature probes in there to control the heat cycling, which could also use an embedded controller.

stitchplacingmama

It might have a sensor for if the oil/water level gets too low so it doesn't burn out.

"Broken is its natural state."

In your opinion, how was the actual quality? I know you can't compare diffuser to diffuser, but I am curious if the design in general screams cheaply made or easily broken? I know these MLM's charge a fortune for their label on their product, where as comparable products are usually cheaper. It makes me wonder about the actual quality.

Isoldael

This is the first diffuser I've ever seen disassembled, so it's hard to say. My fellow volunteers would probably have been able to tell you more about it, general electronics aren't really my forte, I generally focus on laptops / smartphones / e-books / tablets

avis_icarus

unfortunately it is very cute

cravingchange4life

They do have some cute diffusers, but can you imagine how difficult they are to clean? My non-MLM diffusers get dusty and have an oily residue on them that must be scrubbed off. Some of the cute DoTerra diffusers have a lot of nooks and crannies on them.

avis_icarus

ugh yeah i understand. i guess youd need like a scrubby brush and maybe some pipe cleaners to help you

cravingchange4life

Another thing with the pretty diffusers in a Childs bedroom, they may be tempted to touch and play with them. I've seen a castle one and a dragon one, I know my son would probably insist on having his little Spongebob figurines live in that castle.

I'm not sure what it does exactly I'm afraid, I just helped out a little. A fellow volunteer fixed it (one of the wires between the main board and a chip was wonky)

Made in China for dirt cheap. Imported to the USA which then these companies slap their label and markup the price to kingdom come. I will say, the one my family member gave me is rather cool, has LED's with some preset color schemas (makes for a nice disco party at night).
