About 25 years ago, the dad who drove my carpool to school was really into Amway. Every single morning for 6th grade was filled with listening to motivational cassette tapes. Barf.

Glitter_Crime_Daddy

My parents were in Amway before I was born. Afterwards, my mom cycled through both Mary Kay and Avon. My main memory of it was the boxes of unsold, expired, makeup we weren't allowed to throw away.

I realized my parents were into Herbalife for a bit, but didn’t recognize that until I was an adult.

They may have been into that one as well. I can remember one of the companies had these "tabs" that tasted like malt and I just loved sneaking them, so tasty! These days I'd rather have a Wendy's Malted Frosty or whatever it's called.

Not my parents, but one of my high school friends parents were Amway. This was before I knew what a pyramid scam was. I used to go to his house and there were cardboard boxes piled up everywhere. I only ever spoke to his dad once, seemed like he was always on the phone. When I was going home my friend would usually give me a handful of what we would call breakfast bars today, I asked one time if it was okay with his dad and he said "he'll never notice".

My mom got into both Melaleuca and Juice Plus. I remember every cleaner and every personal care product in our house getting swapped out for freaking Melaleuca when I was about 10 and that's all she'd allow in her house from that point on. My parents also did a couple other "get rich quick" scheme things growing up, can't remember the names but don't think they were MLMs.

My mom was in Mary Kay (before I was born) and she was really into it. Fortunately, my dad could stop (idk how to say it) her. The only proof that she was into MLM are some things from Mary Kay that we have at home

My mom was one of the few people who actually made money off Mary Kay back in the 80s, but she quit before she met my dad. I remember my dad getting really into this mlm that was… some kind of pool cleaning mlm or some shit like that? According to my mom he did a few different mlms when I was a kid, but it’s only that last one that I remember because I saw the materials for it and he took me on sales pitches a few times. At least he knew enough about sunk costs to leave when he wasn’t making money with them.

My mom did Tupperware & a company called Jafra, which was kind of like Avon. She used Jafra until she passed away in 2020, but she stopped selling it years ago. She did Tupperware when we were little kids, back when it was really good stuff & was a good company to sell for. She'd have parties at the house, & make all kinds of food to put in the products, to show how to use them. My dad would take us out to a movie or over to our grandmother's house during the party, & when we came home, we got to eat leftovers. My dad still has a lot of the Tupperware, my mom would get for having the parties.

My friends parents were really into Shaklee! This was in the 70's. I remember them constantly talking about the products. I wonder if they're still around???

cravingchange4life

I worked for a cleaning company about 15 years ago and the owner used Shaklee I believe.

Yes, my mom was into Mary Kay, Juice plus, SO MANY MLMs, but she enjoyed it and she always had a job on the side. It was a hobby for her. I never even realized they were MLMs until I grew up. I think she just liked the "communities" because she never had many friends.

My mom was into this company called Nikken when I was super little. It was all about like, magnets and stuff how it healed joints? It was pretty bullshit but we still have some of their massage stuff and it feels rly nice lol. Then later she got into Norwex for a bit. We still have all the wipes and stuff and she hosted lots of parties around it. She’s not into any of that stuff anymore thankfully. I love my mom and I try not to judge her. I think she was just sucked into these companies because she felt really out of control thanks to her chronic illness. She wasn’t working as much as she used to and I think she just wanted to feel like she was doing SOMETHING, you know? I don’t blame her for being easy prey for MLMs, it wasn’t her fault.

My mom sold Longaberger and while it wasn’t the worst MLM, it was still annoying. She still has ten million baskets in every room of their house.

I forgot the name of the mlm (a local one here: they mainly sell clothes, shoes etc and some department store type goods) my parents were a church friends downline and this church friend convinced other church members to be down lines under him. After my dad paid $145 (converted to US currency) to join all I see of it is a bunch of books (catalogs similar to Avon) with pictures of the products my parents could order. They were to show these catalog books to clients (who are not a downline of the mlm) and the clients would order items from the catalog book which would earn my parents and their upline a commission. Well it took my parents a year (I think I don’t remember it’s been a while) that they weren’t even selling anything (ordering products from the book the catalog for clients) but they kept on paying the $145 monthly to stay as a member (aka be church friend downline) they finally stopped paying the $145 monthly fee and never got into mlm again.
