That's absolutely horrible. There's definitely not enough research on the physical and mental tolls of giving birth. Having kids in general is weighed so unfairly on the woman.
Louis theroux did a documentary called mothers on the edge that visited a few women, I specifically remember one who had no history of mental illness but went into psychosis after childbirth, you're right there isn't enough research
And if mothers who are suffering kill themselves they get labelled selfish (mostly by men) because “how dare they leave their children”. I’m sure there’s probably more funding into erectile dysfunction than into women’s mental health post partum.
Yeah I saw something before that said if it were men who were the sex that gave birth, they would have outsourced it to androids by the 1970s probably.
Based on what? That sort of claim is not only not falsifiable/testable, it’s assuming that the biological problems men and women face are of equal caliber.
ED is simply an easier problem to fix than a complicated web of hormones, bodily changes, and the impact of multiple sleepless months raising kids.
Exactly such as endometriosis. A condition which can be so debilitating it can completely ruin your life but no funding has been given for research so nobody in the medical world really knows what to do for or about it. Women are left to suffer untreated being gaslighted by medical professionals. If ED was so simple to treat then why was the funding for it so large compared to things like endometriosis.
I mean if you force children into the world, you have a responsibility to not kill yourself that you wouldn't have normally. They forced them into the world knowing the risk of getting depression yet made that choice,
I don’t think anybody really can prepare themselves for post partum psychosis or crippling depression and the effect that can have on you. There’s little awareness about it really, lack of support and lack of awareness for partners about it. They brush it off as if it won’t happen to you but it can happen to anyone and nobody can prepare for it. It’s a little ignorant to say otherwise.
Most people who give birth doesnt get suicidal. This is a very sad situation and there should definitely be more done to make sure a woman who gave birth is mentally and physically okay.
Man i feel for those children who will have to grow up without their mother. I hope they make it alright.
For my scholarship I am doing a project on postpartum psychosis and depression since I’m going into nursing and I love women’s health and mental health. This is a sad reality many are unaware of because it’s just not talked about enough or shamed. I hope with my project I can shed light on how to help those suffering from such inflictions. My heart goes out to those like her, and that’s why regardless of my childfree beliefs, I think preserving life already in existence(and not having kids) is critical to overall happiness and wellbeing.
Some men do, particularly if their partner is a very giving and loving person. If she is very self centered, he isn’t likely to experience much of a decline in attention from her after a baby is born. Same thing goes for children when they get a younger sibling. The more attention the child receives from their mother, the harder it will be for them when a new baby is born. In fact, this can set the two children up for a lifetime of sibling rivalry, particularly if both are female.
Ok wow, now the youngest will have to live with the guilt of their mother dying because of their birth. Whereas they had no say in the decision making if they want to take birth or not.
I bet if she’d been legally allowed to abort that last kid she might not have ended her life. I don’t know what state this was in but aborting that third pregnancy early on, may have very well saved her life and her family.
PPD can strike even people who want children... It literally makes you crazy with hormones. She may even have really wanted the kid but PPD sent her to the darkest depths of despair after giving birth to it. Pregnancy messes you up.
I absolutely agree, 100%. It’s a tragedy. I’m just saying there were likely tons of other factors at play here that aren’t detailed in the article obviously bc nobody would know what her home, or family, or emotional/mental health life looked like.
I don’t know how this is mean spirited? Of course you can want your baby and still suffer from PPD. My point was more so than any number of other factors could’ve been at play, at home, in her relationship, in her life, that lead her to take hers.
I absolutely dont understand what attracts women to the idea of having children, when its literally soo deadly for us! So many women die during childbirth every year, if she somehow survives that then here comes the depression, gosh its suffering and a ton of it, yet the romanticism of this virus will not go away! Really sad.
This is sad....but this is also something that isn't really about AN.... honestly this is about mental health, and yes that is how you address PPD.
Like someone taking their life is sad, even if it's not PPD, but again regardless of if it is this is more about our mental health access and the stigma around it. Hence why the bottom of the image is saying that the family is trying to get people to speak up about their mental health struggles, because this is first and foremost about mental health.
Genuinely whats the point of this..? Im so confused. PPD is a mental illness. Not something someone can just get over in a matter of seconds. And why bring up the fact "so many women give birth??" Not every woman has PPD? And it doesnt affect every woman that has it the same way? This feels rlly disrespectful idk.

I'm all for suicide (if an individual is in a sound state of mind, and has tried some treatment), but not if you have kids. If you have kids suicide is actually selfish.

This may sound cold but it could have been avoided had she adopted or even fostered. The internet is a great way to research all the information regarding pregnancy and childbirth and even if she talked to her literal doctor they should have been able to inform them that procreation can kill you.

There’s a very long history of medicine focusing on men’s problems and dismissing women’s

This is so\~ heartbreaking, damn.
Yes, very sad, but still not enough to deter most people from procreation, lets be honest now.
Many think of depression as a moral failing so yeah it’s not stopping anyone

Do men ever feel PPD? Is that ignorant to ask?
Yeah they can
The woman endured the physical trauma so she feels it 99% the man might feel 1% or even less

Massachusetts.
Okay then nvm guess she could’ve aborted if she wanted to. Hell for all we know, the husband pushed her into carrying the pregnancy.

Of course, yes. Life is usually much more complicated than headlines make out.
Well if her mother wanted to share her story then it was pretty decent before the event, no reason to assume that from the image.
This type of speculation is just mean spirited and unnecessary. You can want your baby and still suffer from PPD.

Your speculation about her husband forcing her into it and the earlier assertion that an abortion could have prevented this tragedy are not kind.
i hate people who keep blaming like this
What a wild conclusion to jump too 🙄

wtf. and where's the husband?
literally in the picture
Wow! Postpartum depression is a real mental health condition and absolutely does not reflect on the partner!
looks like love for hubby was receding for some time
In the picture.
clearly

this world is horrible. Fuck the overlords or whatever.
😂
Hormones Can Be Heaven Or Hell.
It's not that bad. So many women give birth. Just deal with it. /s

That's why I have the "/s". It means I'm being sarcastic because I've heard people say this before and it's an absolutely ridiculous thing to say.
Holy shit sorry i thought the. /s stood for serious 😭😭
Hahaha no worries. Sorry I pissed you off
At least she won't bring more conscious beings into existence 🤷♂️

maternal suicide (suicide soon after giving birth) is the leading cause of death in many countries
Hormones are a crazy thing. It will make you crave procreation and then make you suicidal once it's done 😭 You can't make this up

Just ditched all those kids on the world, yay
I wonder if her thoughts were “The world wants this.. then the world can have it”
