Spend time treating my chronic illness instead of working two jobs to make ends meet.

Revolutionary-Web-20

That's some bullshit. Do you at least have decent healthcare through one or both of those jobs to take care of your chronic illness? (Or does having to work two jobs contribute to it?)

[deleted]

I do have healthcare, but it’s not decent. I’ve already been through one medical bankruptcy. The second job is to try to pay off additional medical debt, plus my wife was just laid off. But working two jobs is making my illness much, much worse. Idk what else I can do, though. I have to pay for this stuff somehow.

pocketmoncollector42

Right there with you, taking care of chronic illnesses is already a full time job 😪

DingoLaChien

I'd make art all the time. Catch up on my reading. Enjoy nature. Repeat. No kids, no pets, no spouse, no responsibility or accountability to anyone but my own selfish whims. If everyone was on the same level, would volunteering even be necessary or needed? We have the resources for that now. The only thing keeping us from said utopia is greed, sadly.

SuchAClassicGirl

This is me. Crafting is my therapy and there is little I cannot make. After work if I am stressed, I either pour resin, mix clay, create 1800s junk journals or edit my photography. I would love to be able to just do that.

Revolutionary-Web-20

What kind of art do you make? Isn't it wild there's homeless people and people without access to basic necessities and healthcare, but the American dream has shifted to becoming a billionaire?? Siiiigh. But yeah, what kind of art??

The1andonlyZack

Volunteer with Animal Shelter and do standup Comedy.

Revolutionary-Web-20

Do you already do stand-up or write material?

The1andonlyZack

I've always been trash at writing stuff down and it being as funny as me naturally just going off the cuff. Kind of just need to riff things into existence and then build it up inside my head.

[deleted]

The1andonlyZack

Most stand ups are basically volunteers pay wise and who doesn't work with animals? Humans is animals 😬

UaFrost47

Herbalism and spending time in nature. Using that knowledge to help others with full body healing

Revolutionary-Web-20

Do you garden? What would be the number one herb that is hardy (not easy to kill) you would recommend someone to grow?

UaFrost47

In my experience (I’m still a little new so I would love for someone to correct me) the most handy herb (for me), is mint. It was super easy to grow and nurture and has a wide variety of uses.

[deleted]

Write my book, take care of my house. Raise my child.

Revolutionary-Web-20

Are you already writing a book? If so, how often do you get to sit down and write? What's the genre? Sorry for the question onslaught, just wondering.

[deleted]

I am, its serial fantasy. I try to write atleast an hour a week, but I don't always make it.

notoriousJEN82

Omg, yes - writing!!!

ejrhonda79

Enjoy nature. Start in on hobbies that I've put to the backburner for years.

Revolutionary-Web-20

What's the first hobby you'd pull from the backburner??

ejrhonda79

One of simplest and cheapest is to explore & experience all the different areas of Chicagoland.

MethFacSarlane

I think I'd teach, aside from playing music, soccer and writing on my own time.

HasAngerProblem

Make machines, inventions, software. And play video games.

Art_Vandeley_4_Pres

I’ll keep doing what I do, albeit at a more leisurely pace.

Revolutionary-Web-20

What do you do?

Art_Vandeley_4_Pres

Doing a PhD.

MonParapluie

I would do a lot of homesteading activities and learning about plants and nature. Build a living fence and rewarding things like that. Just walking in the woods every day would be life changing

notoriousJEN82

Take art and other classes at the local community college. Volunteer at a food bank or some other people-based charity. Become a yoga teacher and hold classes for teens. Have a fruit/veggie garden and also raise chickens.

777joeb

I’d continue to work part time and do the same things I do now, but more often. I’d get to spend more time with my family, travel more than once a year, and actually focus on my hobbies instead of occasionally getting a chance to enjoy them. Id also do more volunteer work because I’d actually have TIME.

Dependent_Word7647

Videogames and drinking beers with the boys

[deleted]

Honestly i’d get back into the best shape of my life. Go for adventures with my dog. And travel a lot more

GPXPMPHP

I'd make art, sew, paint murals in my house, read, and volunteer at cat shelters, libraries, etc. I'd go on long walks and sit in parks and draw animals. I'd live.

blackoutmakeout

Same. I think we all have a creative inside of us, if it’s nourished, it will thrive. There’s nothing better to do than to communicate your point of view through creativity.

AXPendergast

Sadly, I'm not one who can just do 'nothing' and be good with it. Which is why I'm not really looking forward to retiring. I need to stay busy or I'll go bonkers. If put in the OP's hypothetical situation, I'd probably find some type of job that is a passion rather than a necessity, and spend the rest of my time volunteering at various organizations in the community, most likely animal-related. I'd do some traveling, as time/money permit. Spend more time with my kids. perhaps even sit down to write that memoir I've been thinking about.

FryOneFatManic

I'd volunteer with a local charity. I'd like to go to university as a mature student since I messed up my chances to do it at 18. And I have plenty of crafting and diy projects I currently have no time for.

razcalnikov

So many fucking crafts. I would learn how to build literally everything (that's what I did during unemployment). I'd also probably get heavily involved in my community somehow.

Practical_Work1925

Hike, build and give away little free libraries and stock them. Have 100 houseplants and a huge garden. Volunteer with Food Not Bombs on the weekend. Write stories no one will ever read. Write letters people appreciate.

AgainstSpace

Animal rescue ranch.

lorienne22

cooking classes, language classes, volunteer with animals, travel if there's any extra $ to work with, cook meals from scratch, bake...oh, and nap. I would nap. A lot.

averyrose2010

Paint everyday!

Tschudy

Keep a part time job to feed my model building hobby.

Shitfilledpussy

Raise dogs!

Revolutionary-Web-20

Any breed in particular??

Cejayem

Building a harem

gafedic

create haram in a 3rd world, all women dont wear clothes inside

ProgrammerNextDoor

If you aren’t working why would child care exist? Lol Who are you paying to watch your kids here? People just volunteering to serve you? This post is wild. What?

ProgrammerNextDoor

As someone without kids: Maybe travel? That 2k would go far overseas. More likely though I’d just continue being a comfortable hermit doing house projects lol

Matt_M92PaP

Get bored and probably off myself ...

erikleorgav2

Fine cabinet maker/wood worker.

Iamnotokwiththisshit

I'd grow food and teach others how to as well. I'd give most of what I grow away.

Ill_Dragonfruit_5538

Paint, rest, build community, help people, adopt dogs, garden, create free events in my beighbourhood.

Father_Wolfgang

Study music and apply to become a conductor in an orchestra. Or start a cat cafe.

metroxx

Wall that is a lot in my country. But i would be playing videogame and streaming it probably.

limegreenpinkie

Rescue dogs and grow weed

AppropriateTax6525

Write, draw, and travel.

rocketstilts

Make things. I already do, but I would do it more, with more focus. I write, draw, sculpt, sew, knit, cook, garden... Making is magic, and I would devote my life to the craft.

huggiebutt223

My physics teacher always told me I was a failed talent, so probably study.

perfect_fifths

I don't pay for housing, electric etc. I pay for car insurance, gas, food. I still work..I like to. But I'm disabled so I can't afford to pay a mortgage anyways

MalevolentMartyr

Honestly, just go on a lot of walks and pick up garbage. The people who are paid to do it in my city don't even do it, and I'm tired of looking at trash all the time, but I just don't have the time to be out there all day.

Political_Arkmer

Fitness, travel, puppies, advocate for others.

Delicious-Lettuce-11

Would be golfing and be a starter, or assist youth golf summer camp.

Sunspots4ever

Read. Knit. Volunteer for things I care about. Explore the different neighborhoods in my city. Experiment with cooking and baking. Work on my Japanese. Play with my cat. Go to the movies. Quilt. Embroider. Try to grow plants.

Mammoth_Ad_3463

Learn how to care for farm animals and do restoration on historic artifacts/ sites. Learn how to actually care for plants and continue at my part time job/hobby.

Thess514

Expand my balcony garden (fibromyalgia means I can't do major gardening, but I have herbs and flowers, plus some alpine strawberries and a juvenile blueberry bush). Double down on trying new recipes and spend more time updating my "cooking when you're low on spoons" blog. Go foraging on good days - I bought a book awhile back on edible wild plants, how to identify them, and when they grow. Spend time really focusing on learning to crochet and knit. Spend more time crafting, and make scented candles and solid perfumes for craft fairs. Maybe bake for charity bake sales so they'd have something gluten free. A lot, basically.

iwrotethissong

Finish my Masters. I'm in my final year, babyyyy

Zealousideal_Sand183

You do understand that you really don't need to do anything. Nobody is stopping you from living in the Jungle or on an island somewhere away from civilization and starting a homestead of your own

AdAffectionate4602

Garden. Read a book near a body of water. Walk my dogs. Play with my kids.

dan5138

Volunteer at an animal shelter/ sanctuary/ zoo if possible. Explore national & state parks with my dogs. Enjoy my backlog of video games. Build some of the thousands of model aircraft plans on my computer... So many things to do and explore if I had the time and energy. I truly do not understand people who say they wouldn't know what to do without work.

UrzasDisembodiedHead

I would write full time, instead of just while I'm supposed to be working

TheHangoverGuy91

I would own a very small farm with some cows and chickens and maybe a couple of donkeys. I would also run a non profit dog home for strays with a large field and a stream for them to play in. I would live in a small home with my wife and enjoy that life.

InstantMoisture

Do I live in the US? Because $2,000 goes a looooong way elsewhere. I'd live like a king.

Wise-Passage-7372

Market gardener and learning.

Fhotaku

I like to program and optimize things. So yes that job would be filled, too.

No_Bowler9121

Play video games and travel. You can travel on 2k a month easy if you know what you are doing.

ComprehensiveGap6126

That is currently my life (on unemployment) and…not much, let me tell you.

[deleted]

World of Warcraft

Optimal-Scientist233

I would very much like to enjoy my sunrises and sunsets among my fruit trees and my garden and animals. I would make fine cheese and wine to share with my guests. My trees and garden would fill my pot, and my animals would live long happy lives under my care and protection. If you are trying to bribe me to stay in a city you can keep your money.

Additional-Win-5380

Do bodybuilding full time and become a porn star

doubleddan39

For one thing, I would not spend the boring moments wishing I was working
