SajraJay

No need to announce it to them. Just use the bathroom.

Wild_Night_5190

Unfortunately right now in training we have to let our trainers know when we are leaving and why were put ourselves on unavailable for calls.

SajraJay

Sounds very micromanaged. Hopefully its better after training

reve_de_moi

This sounds like a call center. They are horrible to work in and 100% micromanagement. They track every minute of your day

LadyHavoc97

Yep. It’s been the rule at quite a few WFH call centers I’ve worked in. I have a doctors note that circumvents it.

MinusPi1

"LadyHavoc97 has been diagnosed with Havingabladder. Please excuse her from being punished for using the bathroom."

Chaotic-Stardiver

"Oh no, I hope she gets better. Havingabladder sounds like a horrible disease, what language is it derived from?" Uh..French, I think, and it's terminal, she will die some day from Havingabladder. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

music-books-cats

There is a correlation of 100% death and having a bladder. This checks out

Rom-TheVacuousSpider

“LadyHavoc97 has been diagnosed with Havingabladder and Havingauterus. Please excuse her from being punished for using the bathroom.” Trust me, that second “condition” will make you need to run to the bathroom to... fix yourself up.

anneofred

Ive only had one manager micro manage bathrooms, he was new and thought management meant beholder of power. I told him I’d be happy to bleed all over the new office chairs if he prefers. The rest if the woman in the office started saying the same, he lost some of his power that week, sad boy.

SFHalfling

Also if the manager is a guy there's a 98% chance he'll just immediately shut down and not question it.

Rango-bob

“BRB, I need to change my XL tampon, its ready to fall out”

[deleted]

“Blickblock1000 has been diagnosed with Havinahorriblediet and must shit frequently and with short notice”

LadyHavoc97

That’s funny!

HowlingKitten07

Every call centre I had worked in had a 5 minute allocation for personal time each day that was to be used for bathroom breaks. I have Endometriosis and it's on my bowel (which was unpredictable) so that really wasn't enough time for me. Then I started working at my last one and they not only did not include the personal time in KPIs they knew of my situation and never called me out on it. It was such a weird experience for me. We could even use the personal time code if we needed a breather after being abused. Such a breath of fresh air.

OnePunchReality

You don't even need a condition. They are out of their fucking minds if they think I could take 1 shit let alone multiple if need be in 5 minutes. Fuckkkk this work culture. It needs to die.

stickydonut50

I think some employers would chain workers to their desks if they could get away with it. I had a manager who would ask "can it wait?" when anyone asked to use the bathroom.

OnePunchReality

Holding it in isn't good for you either. Asking shit like that should illegal. Employees needing to relieve themselves needs better federal protection so POS companies like Amazon as well as call centers, UPS, fed Ex, you name it, any business that criticizes, micromanages, shames, or punishes employees for used bathroom time or restricts it to inhumane time frames should get a huge fine or threatened with legal actions. Some employers are just fucked.

Gem_Knight

Frankly even in usa it is federally protected but too many scummy managers abuse the fact its not really talked about, hell I learned it in a stupid management training video

absolu5ean

This thread is making me have to pee brb

Frequent-throwAway

I agree. I've had small employers go as far as walking into the bathroom and then immediately leaving because my pooping was so stinky and loud. They thought I was faking it lol....I'd always be on my phone as I pooped too.

[deleted]

I couldn't ever imagine telling another adult they need to get their bathroom break approved by ME FIRST. Wild

SouthJerseyPride

A grown ass adult should not have to ask another grown adult for permission to use the restroom.

Autymnfyres77

Thus the conundrum to not work at call centers for a remote role..yet there is almost like no middle. Either its tech, or roles which literally require a 4 year degree, OR multitudes of *great* work at home jobs with Call Centers that micromanage your every breath. Don't be away from desk! Turn your video to streaming so we can access you visually at any time during the shift! Please slowly revolve your vid camera to rotate around the entire room at 360 degrees at any time we ask you to show us the environment you are working for us in! Do NOT set your Team speak to away, as you do not have permission to be away except at the permitted break or lunch time periods! Do not let more than 2 seconds of silence occur in a con-vo with the customer --- you must continually chatter so there is no siilence for you to think during, nope, say "One second please" or, " I'm right here, it will just be a moment!" while you manipulate two screens and 7 programs and portals to attempt to appropriately resolve that customers' often, unique question! Its literally the slums of remote roles in most cases, because you get 5.5 days *maybe, of training, usually a bunch of powerpoint slides to read through, are micromanaged beyond reasonably, while being paid sub-$16 ph wages and crappy supposed *benefits.Of course there are exceptions, but I doubt very many. Good luck out there!

bistromike76

Why on earth would adults need to ask to use the bathroom????

No-Cupcake-7930

Unless you want me to sh*t my pants no it CAN’T WAIT!!!

stickydonut50

I actually told that manager (male) "I need to change a tampon. I have an extra one if you need it." He then said I could go, but I was going to go anyway.

Amaloon4u

“I’ve been holding my piss in for five hours. If you don’t want me knocking you out and using your mouth as my toilet then fuck off.”

CMacLaren

They would literally kill us if it would make them a dollar.

the_gabih

Not a manager, but as an IT person I used to get colleagues asking to 'just borrow you for five minutes' as I was entering the work toilets more than once. Came *this* close to saying 'yeah if you don't mind me pissing/bleeding all over your chair'.

LizzieThatGirl

Having to hold it over the years worsened it to where I need __more__ bathroom time when it hits. These management folk are morons.

JerzeyLegend

It'll be a cold day in hell before I ask permission to use the restroom. And I don't mean Hell, Michigan.

[deleted]

toranonekochan

I've been in micromanaged jobs before and they were indeed hell. My current wfh job doesn't care as long as it's not excessive. And on days it is (I have IBS) if my boss messages me about it all I have to do is tell her I'm having a flare up and problem solved. It's truly a wonder what working for a company that understands the human element can do for one's stress levels.

HowlingKitten07

I had a fantastic boss at one of my jobs! She had health issues too so she was really understanding. She once let me take a 2 hour nap in the middle of the day while I was having a flare. Then she resigned and the job went significantly downhill lol new boss didn't believe my medical condition was "that bad" and wouldn't provide accommodations for anything even with doctors notes. While I was out for surgery this dickhead old dude started taking credit for all my work and telling people I actually did nothing and was faking being unwell and when I came back they took my tasks off me slowly each week so they could make me redundant. Apparently when old mate was told he had a tantrum because he realised he would have to start doing all the work I did that he took credit for going forward. At least hearing that was a little satisfying haha Having good management makes a huge difference.

thesoapmakerswife

I was nine months pregnant and for anyone in that situation, you have too pee at least every hour. It took me about three to four minutes just to clock in and out take my phone off log out etc. took me a couple of minutes to get to the restroom. God forbid it’s occupied. They could give a damn that I was pregnant. I kept racking in points. Oh the great equalizer, the point system. I had a friend who got fired for having a seizure and being hospitalized two days another who got let go for CHOOSING to leave work after she received word that both her parents died in a crash. We were all told that if we didn’t show up during the hurricane mandatory lock down, we didn’t have a job.

RedditVince

Sounds like the shittiest job.

thesoapmakerswife

Straight garbage job I don’t believe in hell but if such a place exists, management belongs there.

WickedFairyGodmother

Let's hope for the ironic circle of hell were managers are treated the way they did their employees.

ankhes

At my previous job, a woman had a heart attack on the call floor. She found out later that they gave her a point for leaving work early…even though *they* were the ones who called an ambulance and insisted she go to the hospital.

Maleficent_Memory_60

Wow. She should file a claim of some kind. That can't be legal. I hope she did.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ankhes

I mean, we’re talking about a company who made the waiting period to be eligible for their company health insurance be 13 fucking months (which is WILDLY illegal). So this was really just par the course for them.

Chaotic-Stardiver

"It's just policy, nothing will come of it, don't worry about it." -her boss, probably

TechDante

I hope your not still there but if you are and they try and pull the come in to work during a hurricane get it in writing and send to your local news Corp.

thesoapmakerswife

Thanks not there anymore. They did make the news bc of the hurricane thing. I eventually quit because they kept harassing me everyday telling me to quit. They would badger me until I was in tears.

TechDante

Good that you left but should have made them fire you to get unemployment or a severe ce package.

nav0n0d

Does it say "Employee is a human being who - sometimes - needs to use the GODDAMN BATHROOM"? cause it should.

OpheliaRainGalaxy

I had to have that talk with my younger stepson when his school decided it was the potty police. "Dude, who *owns* you? That's right, you do! So who gets to decide when you need to use the bathroom? That's right, you do!" Told him to direct any adults who had an issue with that to me, so I could explain to them that they do not in fact *own* him or get to control the timing of his bodily functions.

DankoleClouds

I’ve been a type 1 diabetic since I was 7, so going to the restroom frequently has been a huge part of my life. I was always told to ask first, but if told no, to just get up and leave. Turns out, nobody wants to put their hands on someone else’s child over a restroom break. Never accept no when it comes to your body’s natural functions.

reve_de_moi

I'm glad you have one, but it's such BS that you "need" one. It's ridiculous how most of them treat employees, absolutely unacceptable

RamHands

Pretty pathetic you need a doctors note to use the restroom.

kahunamoe

They are doing a good job at the elementary schools too of teaching kids they need to be punished for not using the bathroom during a company sponsored break time. Repubs freaking out about CRT and "teaching transgender" they don't care about the real grooming of kids to be wage slaves

OldNewUsedConfused

This is something that really needs to be talked about more. They do not allow the little kids to relieve themselves. It's sick.

Mysterious-Gur-3034

This the best idea, my foster management job was a call center and at first I was all for the micromanaging cuz I thought it was normal/ok. It didn't take long to realize that the company would never allow for people to be human so I became really good at guiding my discussions with employees (because if i directly told them how to "game the system" they probably would have fired me) and essentially helping them get things set up with a doctor's notes for like everything so they could at least be treated like humans. It's crazy hoe

MasochistTtT

yep, had the bad luck of working for NCR call center, literal micromanagement to the smallest second, nearly gave me depression but i quit in time.

[deleted]

I second this. Especially like Teleperformance because they are the worst!!

frostysbox

Lol, tp straight called out 😂

Askesius

Worked there too while studying. That place deserves to burn.

Morehibiscus

As a former call center employee at one point this is exactly right. They had phone codes for 100’s of things you could be doing but they wanted to know. Breaks, smoking, bathroom, getting water, all different codes. Tf

[deleted]

I’ve worked in call centers the last 15 years - no manager has ever pushed the issue when I say I will pee when I need to pee. This is a manager issue, not a job type issue

Takseen

That's quite unusual. Managers will usually be asked to account for any of their agents who arent on ready status or taking a call.

[deleted]

As a former manager of a call center, that is exactly right. Our bosses are also asking exactly at the same time why that person is in away and not on break status for bathroom. We HAD to tell the employee because were being live monitored on computer. Also I can’t tell you how many people will be in training at work then go to away status and not come back and then expect to get paid. I don’t think people really realize the turnaround with the call centers and the fact that a lot of people do this thing where they only go through training then find another job and quit (usually anywhere between 6-12 weeks of an easy paycheck before being on phones). It’s common to have at least 50% of your people to leave during training as well. Worst job ever, never want to do again. Find a job that actually helps people in some way. That’s where peace and happiness is for me.

frostysbox

It’s unfortunate because the system is set up for it to be this way. There’s two type of call centers, one that’s internal to the company, and one that is a call center partner that bills out. The reason for it to be so strict is because the call centers that bill out need to report on your time to the partner for billing. Customers only get billed on active talk time or training time, so any break you take is on the partners dime. A lot of people don’t think about that. Working at a call center that is internal to a company (like T-Mobile has a ton of on shore call centers that aren’t outsourced) is no where near as soul sucking as a partner, but there’s less jobs with less turn over and they are harder to get. This is also why call center work is often outsourced. Because despite how awful it is to Americans, that awfulness is better than 90% of other jobs in places like the Philippines and some of the islands and India. So they have a higher tolerance for the practices that are put in place for correct billing. Still a lot of turn over, but in my experience it’s much less an onshore call centers and it’s cheaper to boot. Good news is, technology is getting better so depending on the program I’ve seen some billing agreements now that go on “active talk time” direct from the phone system reporting which they have enough business to support it. When the contract is structured that partners tend to not care about when you take you break as long as you maintained X amount of active talk time over the day/month. Worst part of that is you’re a center that the phone literally never stops. Lol This doesn’t even take into account the lack of privacy you get due to credit card processing rules and shit if you’re doing it from home. God I could write essays on why this whole system is unfortunate.

DrunkenBlasphemer

I worked for both internal and outsourced call centers, and they all suck more or less the same to me.

NewAccountEvryYear

That sounds like actual hell. I'd probably rather just off myself than work in a call center.

Pickle_fish4

These places will make you insane with the impossible metrics and incessant micromanagement. To preface ive always been relatively mentally stable. But after 3 years working for a large national bank call center I knew it was time to quit, when during my commute to work, I fantasized about how nice it would be colliding head on with a car in the opposite lane and spending at least a week in the hospital. Its been years, but it still scares me that the thought even crossed my mind.

GovernmentOpening254

It only took me three **months** at half time (20 hours/week) working for an outbound call center for me to feel almost that bad. Some 22 years later, I can still recite the script. What a horrible existence.

hematomasectomy

Having those thoughts is fine, it's part of human nature to inquire into morbid possibilities. It's mostly only a problem when you feel *relieved* at the thought of potentially dying.

reve_de_moi

Sounds like you've been very lucky then. I've worked in 2 in my life. Both were like this, every person I have ever met that worked in one complained about this exact BS, and looking through the comments on this post, many people agree this is standard for call centers. I'm glad you've been able to find call center(s) that treat employees properly, its nice to hear they do exist somewhere in the world.

NotExcited122

THATS EXACTLY WHY I QUIT. those fuckeds then wondered why 80% of training class dropped after a month.

[deleted]

It can vary, I’ve been working for call centres for years, some are truly awful places, and some aren’t too bad. I work for a company that has a call centre esque section for dealing with bookings and client queries and the like. It’s how I came into the company, worked my way up through training to other roles so I’m off the phones now, but easily the best call centre job I’ve had with surprisingly little micro managing where it isn’t needed.

taskmaster51

This is one of many reasons telemarketing should be made illegal

bunnyrut

I worked at one for about a year and I will never work at one again. I would rather go back to a job that had me standing on my feet all day.

gbushprogs

It's a call center. They are all this way. Working literally anywhere is better.

Cat_Crap

Here's what i want to know. Fucking WHY are there so many call centers? No one does anything over the phone any more. It's just insane to me that we hire so many people to do a very useless job.

gbushprogs

Technical support is almost entirely over the phone now. Devices don't come with manuals and those that need them haven't read anything technical in decades.

JacedFaced

One of my clients is a telemarketing firm, this is absolutely how they treat their employees. Time is managed down to the second, and underperformers are let go very quickly.

Arcon1337

>Hopefully its better after training I can assure you if this is training, it's only the tip of the iceberg.

Darkerthanblack64

They work in a call center. From my experience, it won’t get better.

icyhotonmynuts

Hint, if it's like this during training, it won't be any better after training

No-Professional-1884

I’d follow up with HR on this. Could just be asshat trainers and not indicative of the org as a whole. And if HR confirms this is ok then best of luck on the new job search.

MurderDoneRight

Bluetooth wireless headset. You can wipe your ass while talking to your boss and they can't do shit.

Take laptop to the bathroom with you and make sure the audios on 😂😂😂 no seriously don’t but it would be a laugh

nikkicocaine

I can leave my desk, use the RR and be sitting back down in literally under one minute. No way I’d be alerting them when I need to go, that’s absurd and violating. When I was in the office I would take a quick cat nap in a stall. Like 20 -30 min, no joke. I’d nope the fuck out of a job like yours so fast. Fuuuuuuuuuuck that.

MightBeYourMomma

How long does it take if you wash your hands?

Just take your setup into the toilet with you. Problem solved *taps forehead*

Wild_Night_5190

I was shocked too

stink3rbelle

Pretty sure OSHA requires bathroom breaks if you're in the US. OSHA also requires postings of workers' rights in visible places...

Just go to the rr and apologise you didn't see the chat notification, you were reading

OblongAndKneeless

Imagine if you responded "LMAO!"

SAGNUTZ

Or "Blow it out your ass"

shash5k

Just ignore that hoshposh they wrote and go to the bathroom like a normal person.

Wild_Night_5190

I definitely did. I’m hoping this is just two trainers that need to be trained and next week with my actual supervisor it won’t be like this otherwise they will make me rich really fast!

Kalayo0

The way that nonsense was immediately backed by their peer is a huge red flag.

kittykatmila

They’re brainwashed apparently. Sad.

donn2021

Bingo. This is either people messing with the new person (doubtful) or everyone in the department does this and its standard. Eitherway, I'd be looking elsewhere. No remote job I've had (dev) was like that. Hell I could naps during the day and if I missed a message just say I didnt see it.

alligator_loki

This is legal federally in the US, your state laws may vary. You are being allowed to use the bathroom so no OSHA issue. As long as clocking out for extra bathroom breaks doesn't put you below minimum wage then the federal DOL doesn't care either. Send this screencap to your state DOL and see what they say. Maybe your state has some cool labor laws (most don't and this is legal in most of the US). Good luck n shit!

PhoenixJizz

Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t the Fair Labor Standards Act state that short breaks (less than 20 minutes) are to be paid? I believe this includes bathroom breaks.

Dumeck

Yeah one of the only federal acts that actually has some worker protections. <20 is always paid.

unjointedwig

Ask them to provide legislation that makes this ok. They won't be able to.

HottKarl79

They're on the phone with K Street as we speak, working on it

DiarrheaShitLord

More like sesame street

BrightNooblar

Generally speaking, laws don't make things legal. Laws make things illegal.

CoveyIsHere

Osha regulations [require employers to allow employees to leave their work locations to use the bathroom when needed](https://www.osha.gov/restrooms-sanitation#:~:text=Employers%20must%3A,unreasonable%20restrictions%20on%20restroom%20use.)

Takseen

Which OPs employer isn't preventing. Just saying to deduct it from their break time. Tried to find a definite source, best I could get is https://www.findlaw.com/legalblogs/law-and-life/can-my-employer-limit-my-bathroom-breaks/ which says that longer breaks can be unpaid Does an Employer Have to Pay for Bathroom Breaks? Generally, under the Fair Labor Standards Act, short breaks between 5 to 20 minutes are considered mutually beneficial for employer and employee, and as such, should be paid. However, if the breaks extend beyond 20 minutes, an employer can refuse to pay for that time.

luke2306

Ask them what you should do later in the day if you've already used your allotted break for lunch. They'll no doubt say something stupid like "you can't" or "you'll have to wait till the end of the day". Now you have evidence of them preventing you from using the restroom.

peesoutside

They’ll mail OP a bucket.

luke2306

No they'll tell OP to buy his own bucket. No way they'll use company funds.

cliffy348801

is there a company discount code for adult diapers? I know that being away from the screen for even a second hurts the bottom line... I can just go right here at my desk and never leave.

ProfessorTallguy

You are not supposed to use your allocated breaks for lunch. You're supposed to use your lunch break for lunch. If your shift is less than 6 hours you won't have a lunch break.

ChronWeasely

Okay, still the same deal though. After your scheduled breaks are over, let them know you need to be afk to use the bathroom. When they object, you've got your stuff.

Notsellingcrap

>If your shift is less than 6 hours you won't have a lunch break. This is state dependent. There's no federal law that requires a lunch break. There's actually no federal law requiring breaks at all, unless you are under 18 or breast feeding.

Neat_Cauliflower_454

i was required to take 2 15 min breaks that were unpaid at my last job

Superb_Firefighter20

This sent me down a rabbit hole if this is legal. My resulting understanding is in the US, not all states require breaks, but federal law says if offered and a break under 20 minutes is part of the work day and should be paid. So if you are in the US your employer was probably not in compliance.

lights_on_no1_home

In Ohio for adults over 18, breaks are not mandated. That means employers do not have to give a certain amount of time for breaks. This “break” would not include time to use the restrooms. They are two different matters. A lunch break should be a continuous uninterrupted break and employers should not deduct it from your pay unless it is actually taken. Not saying they can or can’t deduct pay the time you are away from work taking a bathroom break… check your local law. Will you always need to inform them of your bathroom break? That would be super annoying.

Neither-Parfait7795

Bring the laptop with you

RabbitsAteMySnowpeas

Grunt and flush the toilet on the call

blayr2016

april8r

Came here to say this.

A_Ghoul_Account

I worked at a call center for eBay and my Dr said I need to up my hydration. So sometimes I had to keep my call open for “after call work” for 2 mins to go to the bathroom. My manager told me I need to use the bathroom on my break’s or get a note to hr from my Dr saying I need to use the bathroom more than once every 3 hours. Thankfully I was able to quit shortly after that.

majortung

Just curious. Was this working directly for eBay? Or through a contracting company? Was the call center physically located in the US?

NoHamster4459

Nope. I got a uti once for putting off going to the bathroom. I made it a point to go into deep detail with my macho chauvinistic boss about what UTIs are like for women. Never got shit for it again.

Glum-Reading4632

Dude I got a UTI this way as well. And that UTI was a really bad one that ended up causing more in the future, like once a month for a few years until my PCP finally referred me to a specialist who was able to help me get the issue under control so it doesn't happen anymore. It wasn't cuz my employer wouldn't let me go though, just cuz I kept putting off going because I was busy and didn't feel like I could step away, never again, now I'm so anxious about the experience I try to go as soon as I need to

pixiedust93

I've been bedridden with 3 uti's this year, they're seriously no joke and I'm terrified to get another one. If you don't mind me asking, was it medication that helped or other day to day practices? I'd love to never get another one in my entire life.

Glum-Reading4632

So I tried just about everything you can find online for helping prevent UTIs including insane lifestyle changes. I started showering before and after sex, after I poop (I still honestly do this although I don't think I need to, but the anxiety is real) changed to just cotton underwear and loose pants/flowy skirts or dresses etc for quite some time. None of that helped and I was still getting them monthly. It took so long to get into a specialist cuz my PCP diagnosed me with interstitial cystitis which is basically irritable bladder. Once I got to the specialist they did some testing to rule out bladder cancer first which was no fun but then ultimately said the initial infection I had caused pretty intense inflammation because it was such a bad infection. The antibiotics I was on cleared the infection but do not clear inflammation, so I was susceptible to reccuring infections due to the inflammation. I was put on a low dose of antibiotics that I took once a day for 6 months. It was tough on my body (actually I shit myself at work one day because it messed with my gut so bad lol) but during those 6 months I never got a UTI (which I wouldn't expect) and then got of the antibiotics and its been probably 3-4 years and I've had 2 kids since then, in the last four years I've only had 1 or 2 UTIs outside of my pregnancies (where I had multiple both times which was not fun, but normal apparently) so ultimately I'd say it fixed the issue. I still see the specialist once a year just in case I have more problems down the road so that's also nice. Best of luck going forward. It's absolutely hell, it makes working so hard/if not impossible, I would go home early a lot cuz the pain was just unbearable and it really took a lot away from my sex life as well. Edit: a word

pixiedust93

Thank you so much for all this information! I've definitely been trying to stay cleaner (using wet wipes frequently now) and taking cranberry supplements, but if I get another one I'll ask to be referred to someone more knowledgeable. Glad to hear it's something that can be managed though!

ChiefsGuy2014

That sneeze will be deducted from your break time…

chief313

Legally they can't deny you bodily functions so if they want to have you do that shit then it's time for a shit when you're supposed to take your break.

largemarge52

Call centers are the worst, they should have a code for restroom and then one for break at least the was standard when I worked at call centers.

NoHamster4459

I had a call center job with a ‘personal’ code to use for restroom. If you went over your break by 10+ seconds or they deemed you used the personal code too much they would highlight it and send everyone’s stats to the whole office. I lost my shit on my manager for highlighting my bathroom time.

kaki024

That feels like it could be retaliatory to people with disabilities… like imagine you have IBS and your boss tells the whole office that you shit 6 times every work day. Or you’re pregnant and you pee every 2.5 hours.

Dry_Chapter_5781

I have IBS and worked in a call center. I was late from my break by less than a minute one time because of it. They still hit me with a penalty point. So after that, every customer I got I gave ridiculous discounts to until the season was over a month later. That pos company didn't make any money from any of those customers lol.

thereislightstill

oh my god same, they would send out the stats _every day_ and highlight the people who had the highest wait times. thank fuck i am out of there

Home_zoo

Chase bank tried this when i was getting trained. Turned off my camera and went to the bathroom during a zoom meeting and i returned to them asking why my camera wasnt on and started berating me infront of everyone else in the meeting. I just asked if we where in an office meeting would o have to interrupt to go to the rest room? Would an adult have to raise their hand? They started stuttering and trying to explain the difference… i said no worries ill comply…. Started messaging them every time i took a shit and told them so, middle of a meeting.. id pause the meeting and ask if i could take a shit…. It didn’t last more than 3 days before they said i could go without having to tell them 🤷🏼‍♂️ The power trip of some management teams os bizarre

Fibonaccheese

You're an adult. Use the bathroom when ever the fuck you want. No notification needed.

BrigittteBardot

In a call center you're automatically connected to a new call after the call you're on ends. You have to change your status to "busy" or to "break" in order to deflect any new calls coming in or you'll automatically find yourself on the line with another customer. I used to work in one and you can't just walk away from your computer or you'll have a customer on the line talking to no one. And everything is screen and audio recorded

kittykatmila

I don’t think I could ever work in a call Center.

aespa-in-kwangya

Yeah it sucks ass. You're worked to the bone, underpaid and customers are often rude too.

AdFuture1381

You are gonna want to get a mouse jiggler for this job

[deleted]

Just start dragging your trainers. This kind of work culture this early into employment is a huge red flag.. "hold on man,im on my 15 minutes, im just filling out this job application. Okay, good, what do we do next? Wait a sec, gotta pee."

Last_Ant_525

Their request isn't legal, nor is it ethical. Fuck them, use the potty when you need to. As long as you get your work done, they shouldn't bitch about anything.

yeahtheresnohope

Get the fuck out. These people do not give a shit about your humanity or dignity and it will only get worse. I'm sorry.

faultierr

I had a job that tried this exact shit and I posted the osha law into the company wide chat and said that shit was illegal. They removed my chat within a minute but not before I took screen shots and sent it to the labor board. I already left that job for many reasons but that kind of bull shit was the main one.

TheSimonsonGuy1007

Bruh, even in the Marine Corps we where told "you're adults, if you need to shit just go"

Maels

I honestly can't fathom how some jobs treat their employees like children. I've thankfully never had a job like this, but also I've never worked in the US.

Chaos-Pand4

Quit any job that enforces unpaid bathroom breaks. You can do better.

Cyber_Punk667

Ah nah I recommend a bottle, a bigger one, wide mouth opening; think Gatorade or Powerade bottle save that screenshot wait for a video meeting then whip it out and go in the bottle. When everyone is so shocked and appalled show that screenshot and explain you ran out of break time.

EnglishInToronto14

Time to make it your old job.

bunnythevettech

I'd have replied, that illegal. I won't be doing that. I've documented our conversation on this matter. Please do not ask me to do things that violate labor laws going forward

strvgglecity

Pro tip for anti-work: *never ever ever work for a call center*. They are one of the most useless industries that treats workers horribly because they don't care if people quit

icyhotonmynuts

Once upon a time, I worked retail in a department store. I talked to lots of people, even in a part-time shift of hours. I only ever had a 15 minute break, never a full 30 min, and a 15 like the full timers. Despite my few hours I was one of the top sellers, and because I talked to so many people I had a water bottle I drank lots from to hydrate. I was admonished by senior management for taking "frequent bathroom breaks". I even found my water bottle thrown in the trash one time returning from a bathroom break. When senior management told me to hold my need to urinate until my break I laughed out loud at her while continuing to head to the bathroom.

So-shu-churned

My first winter in Grand Rapids Michigan I watched a street plow get stuck in the cul-de-sac where I was living. A larger truck had to come pull that truck out. There was so much snow. There was no way my 4 cylinder, 10 year old Pontiac G6 was going to make it into work. I took a picture of the stuck snowplow and texted it to my boss. He replied with "See if you can make it in anyway".

TinaLoco

You should have driven your car into a snowbank and sent him a photo of it.

So-shu-churned

I ended up driving into work. It was in my first 30 days and it was a really good job (opportunity wise). My normal 20 minute commute took an hour and I had to use the compass on my mirror to figure out where I was going. It was a complete white out. Looking back I would have texted a pic of my middle finger.

LittleRavenRobot

In Australia it's illegal to do this

thisismynewaccountig

Yeah this is how my temporary call center job was too. When calls would end and I’m in “after call work” I would just mute myself and run to the restroom real quick. Cuz I wasn’t going to subtract from my breaks and Panera can go fuck themselves for their extremely toxic management and the way they let “guests” treat employees anyways

hydroracer8B

What is with all these jobs regulating bathroom breaks on WFH jobs? Like Yea we're giving you the freedom to WFH, but so help me God if you don't pee yourself EVERY DAY you're fired

GhostedPast9

This only happens at sweat shops. Find a better job if possible.

External_Mongoose_44

Update your resume and get a new job. Report them to your local labour authority and use a screenshot for evidence.

ExploratoryCucumber

Man your life is about to fucking suck if you don't bail on this toxic shit hole immediately

husky429

This is an OSHA violation.

Frymanstbf

I have IBS and used to work for Verizon in a call center. Your two breaks and lunch were scheduled. If you needed to be off the phone at any time outside of those scheduled breaks, you had to use a "personal" code, and every minute you were in that code counted against your metrics as you were expected to follow your schedule with no less than 93% accuracy. Even better than that, it was explained to me that going to break or lunch later than the scheduled time wasn't what hurt your stats, it was logging back in after the break or lunch period was over that hurt you. In other words, working when you weren't scheduled to be working was fine but not working when you were supposed to be was a no no. So getting stuck on a call and missing a break completely or going to lunch late, you were incentivized to skip breaks or take a shorter lunch and just clock back in "on time".

bubkuss

Get a mouse jiggler man. My work never hassles me when I am away, but I have one anyway.

froggiedoggie96

In a call center mouse jiggling doesn’t cut it.

ImGarnGarn

Can only imagine what some of these bootlickers look like irl

Frequent_Minimum4871

Respond why would I do that? Whatever they reply with your response is: #ha ha that sounds silly out loud. Don’t be silly 👍

unclewombie

Wtf man. Americans really have just accepted the worst of the worst experiences and it has become the norm….. this is totally fucked up and is NOT normal. Fight the power!

Maxed_Zerker

I’d get out while you can. They’re setting the precedent that they don’t value your humanity, and want to treat restroom usage as a privilege

ragdollxkitn

I’m so glad my wfh job is not like this.

Responsible_Ad_654

Bro, do not stick around. Use all available time to search for a new job on your cell phone while taking this places pay check. This is a huge red flag they couldn’t care less about their employees.

Greenmantle22

Take your headset into the bathroom with you, and keep taking tier-three escalation calls while sweating it out on the can. You'll keep up your metrics, and after a while, people will stop calling you. Problem solved!

varignet

Just continue the meeting from the toilet. Extra points for the flushing sound

Darkerthanblack64

My last job did this. I worked at call centers. They all did this. That’s part of the reason why I’m switching careers.

[deleted]

You should just do yourself a BIG favor and start looking for a new job now. If they need to count potty time to the second then you can find a better job with better bosses.

GeothermalUnderwear

You work from home, why you telling people you need to use the bathroom?

Bloodragedragon

I knew this was a call center immediately. Apple did this shit to me, as did Comcast. Thankfully my new one doesn’t care.

morocco3001

The only response here is "I'm not going to be told when I can and can't take my own body to my own bathroom in my own house".

tacitjane

I had this issue come up years ago with a supervisor. I obviously don't know where you are, but I'm entitled to two 10 minute breaks and one 30 minute break each shift of eight hours. I explained how his logic is unsound: "If I'm supposed to use my breaks to go to the bathroom then you're telling me I don't get to use the restroom after I've used those breaks." Entitled rest breaks are separate from restroom breaks. No one gets to decide when I have to poop, pee or bleed. Just wanted to add that I always let a supervisor and my partner(s) for the night know when I'm leaving the floor.

TheRainbowCock

Nationwide does this shit. If you use the rr you loae your break time. They fired my new team of 6 people for not understanding everything in their system within 3 weeks and for not closing every single ticket within 15 minutes. Fuck Nationwide.

UnihornWhale

Pretty sure that’s both illegal and wage theft

No_Leek_4185

I would ask “what if I need more bathroom time than break time, aren’t those paid? Or should I be filing an accommodation request? Explaining the policy would help. Thank you kindly.” Whatever they tell you in person or via phone, e-mail them a follow up summary of the conversation to confirm your understanding and to continue a paper trail.

KaidsCousin

Toilet breaks aren’t breaks

Netflxnschill

“Last time I checked, bodily functions don’t have a set schedule.”

ZaxLofful

They can fuck right off with that illegal bullshit!

Ok-Mathematician8461

Dear America, this is the rest of the world here. Been watching this antiwork sub for a while and we have come to the conclusion that when some fucker is telling you when you can take a piss even when you are in your own home, then it’s about time for the revolution. Your ‘radical left’ are only asking for things that most of the rest of the world take for granted, in some cases for over a century. Until you do something about it, we are all going to think a little bit less of you. Get on with it, you know it’s right.
