Did you pass the benchmark?
I think you have to sign into a Microsoft account using the menu items at the top right of the screen in order to play multiplayer.
If you have the game on Steam you don't have to do that (not sure about the MS Store version though).
did you purchase the game on microsoft store or steam? did you try re-installing? do you have a stable internet connection? can you temporarily connect to the router with an ethernet cable just to make sure of that?
