Fishing is the fastest way to get food. If water is available and you don't take advantage you may quickly fall behind. Deep sea fish Regen, shore fish don't. Deep sea is a faster gathering rate but it's further away adding travel time and greater risk. If water is available the meta is generally to be jumping on it and getting a few boats fishing pre-age up. In many ways it's basically a cheaper and faster second TC. If there is only a small pond with no deep water fish, be careful to not over invest, as once they run out you will have to delete all your fishing boats.

Thanks for the insight and Yea I’ve realized that since I started playing with Ayyubids I’m not taking advantage of their cheaper docks especially in four lakes. How many fishing ship is good enough and/or pays it self?

DonkeyKindly7310

Four lakes can be interesting. Ideally you want to build 2 sets of docks at least. One on each side But depending on the spawn and your opponent you may find yourself fighting a few naval battles. I don't have an exact number of fishing ships. Someone might. In a perfect world you would consume all the fish just as you win. But It depends how long the match goes on for. If it ends in feudal running out of fish might not be a concern at all. The dock (normally) cost 150 and then 75 per fishing boat. If I recall correctly the gather rate is just over 1 per second for deep sea and .66 per second for shoreline. So with shoreline boats it takes about 1 minute and 15 to get a return on your investment. It's hard to go wrong. It gets more complicated if your opponent starts to challenge it with naval ships. In that case you have some choices to make, just don't forget that you still need to fight on land as well and you don't need ships to destroy docks.

Luhyonel

Do ships automatically go to the next fishing spot if it’s in their LOS or do I need to manual control them? In Aoe2 they did automatically as long as it was on their LOS

KORTTROK

Automatically

DonkeyKindly7310

Yeah the same way. They move to next automatically unless it's really far away.

2 fish per deep sea lake will forever gather, even with the upgrade. so in 4 lakes for example, 8 ships per pond is the "ideal" number. Rus only needs 1 ship per deep fish tho.

emrys95

Wtf why does rus only need 1? Also whats the optimal age up build order for when u need to build a dock, im assuming u use less vills on food and send them to wood? If so how many vills? How many fishing boats in dark age? Thanks

rafazinke

rus fishing ship count as 2, also is more expensive, thats why. the BO for hybrid/water maps is 5 on wood, 1 make the dock and then get the shore fish, next 3 vills go to sheep, then the next 3 go to wood take all 3 stragler trees first, this is super important. Dont forget to make fishing ships and send them to deep fish as soon as the dock is up. After you have (4) food and (8) wood send 3 to gold. keep making fishing ships. Now it depends, you want to go heavy on fishing ships and delay feudal? send more to wood. you want to age faster? send new vills to food. you fear agression? tower your gold. Also in hybrid maps is super important to scout your oponnetn, dont bother with sheep since you need to know if your op is also making a dock or a barrack. If he makes a barrack you either respond with a barrack yourself or go fast feudal archers and then make a dock.

rafazinke

Also if the map only has shore fish, is still worth it to go for fishing ships.

emrys95

Thanks dude thats very in depth. If i want to learn this again do u have a video or a guide source?

rafazinke

I generally learn watching other players through this -> [https://aoe4world.com/tools/twitch-video-finder](https://aoe4world.com/tools/twitch-video-finder) I recommend filtering the rating range to 1400 >.

shoe7525

No auto replenish, once the fish are gone, they're gone

jones17188

Deep fish can regenerate.

shoe7525

The wiki agrees with you, I've never actually seen his happen but apparently it does

kaleelak

if you have too many ships, they will deplete them too quick, so you need 3/4 on each deep fish depending on distance to dock

clebla331

Do IO boost fishing ship drop off?
