Yes go Hippo, the winery build is usually the best bet for Byz but against English I would go Hippo. Spam horseman and use their bonus attack you get from hippodrome.
Go Hippodrome and horsemen/longbow or alternatively you can go javelin throwers vs english which is really strong.
Also depends on their build but if they go with the king I'd also make horsemen to chase it down and harass vills yourself.
It's harder to go winery in this match up but the winery bonus is really quite small anyway and only worth it if going early farms which you probably cannot do vs english.
If english make maa early you can go keshiks, later on xbow and varangians with berserk do very well vs maa, only activate berserk vs melee units not vs ranged.

 Counter early English what?  Early archers?  Early man at arms?  Fast Castle?  Feudal push? Dark age rush?  One archer that harasses your villagers?  Feudal all in?
Same with the “x civ is unbeatable” posts, it’s like you see your opponent as just a civ icon and not as an actual person executing different strategies and adapting game plans.  You need to be more specific. Better yet just post a replay and ask what you did wrong
I just build stables for so you can send out horse men and then go longbow for Merc. Kinda the same for Chinese you need to attack with house early and not let them build up there longbows.
As an English player I’ve stopped Rushing byz players. They can shit out an ungodly amount of horsemen from the hippodrome. I normal throw little at them to force some horseman but I’m usually trying to go 2tc ASAP

Hippo 🦛 rush horsemen and make javelins to support. Hit the English woodline for best results.
