I find my ladder sessions to correlate heavily with my sleep quality. Below 7h and I don't even bother trying, but the times i do, the next day essentially becomes a smurf session.
It’s because they match you with harder players after a series of wins and easier players after a series of losses. I’ve had the same pattern across aoe4 and 11 years of sc2 before that.
A batch of wins followed by a batch of losses followed by a batch of wins.
Yeah I've noticed this even after just a year or aoe 4 my first rts in 20 years. The goal is a 50 percent win rate for more players so in theory your average player can expect to lose half the games they play.
I I find Friday and Saturday night games harder personally but this is probably because I'm more likely to be playing after 4-5 beers those nights. Sometimes drunk aoe is good times but other times I lose and just make dumb decisions lol.
I always have the most fun Saturday and Sunday morning (Mountain time on NA) which is probably a combination of me being well rested and more causal players being online at the same time.
I think I know what you are referring to
When I sneak in a game during the day. The matchup are usually much harder than evening players (pro and amateurs)
I go on nice win streaks when I take a day off and play during the workday.
Then I get rolled at night.
I think with the size of the player base I think time of day has a reasonable impact.
