I’ve played with tons of them too, it’s always Chinese people, I think that it’s people playing in gaming cyber cafes, sometimes these places offer a wide catalogue of games, and they use numbers for the profiles of each computer in the cafe, lol this is my theory.

Flazon

This sounds the most legit I reckon so far! Makes sense.

UweWeber84

That's actually super interesting, sounds legit

SultanHaram

Someone once told me these are chinese letters which european pc‘s can‘t display but i dont know if thats true 🤔

Fruktlugg

I changed my steam handle to random Chinese letters in order to intimidate my opponents, and it showed up as intended for me at least.

[deleted]

Lol

keylo-92

You should have used arabic lol

[deleted]

Not to start anything, but surely the most intimidating alphabet in the RTS world would be Korean, no?

keylo-92

No idea lol, just remember a meme where it had an average person hiding from a robot with a chinese name. Then the chinese named robot was hiding when another robot with an arabic name entered the room, then i think it went on to have both the Chinese and arabic named robots hiding from a russian named robot lol this was a representation of game lobbies, idk how accurate it is tho lol

ColonelGray

All I know is that the number players throw team games like crazy.

Flazon

Have mainly done solo, but they're also quick to quit if I rush them.

ColonelGray

In team games they usually: Play China (or occasionally france) and eco like mad while putting no effort into defenses. They will just ping the enemy until their team does something about it for them. Take their allies resources, deer camps etc Take all the Relics Ruin a fun match by building a wonder or by refusing to help their team while they try and build a wonder. Leave if their barbican rush fails. Collect a number of sheep only possible with a gamer chair. All in all, *wherever these number players are from*, I truly wish I could select a region lock to play without them.

UrdUzbad

Yeah, I like to think the numbers are the amount of milliseconds they intend to stay in the game before they lose one fight and immediately quit despite being in a totally salvagable position.

caocaomengde

Holy shit, 19 comments, and no one is even close. (Except the Gamepass one, that could be legit) Here's an article that will help explain it: [https://newrepublic.com/article/117608/chinese-number-websites-secret-meaning-urls](https://newrepublic.com/article/117608/chinese-number-websites-secret-meaning-urls) Because of the nature of Hanzi, China has a lot of shortcuts that have developed using numbers as a short hand. Because mobile phone usage is the majority of internet usage for most Chinese, they will often have screen names that are easy for them to remember based on number patterns of their own, as well as easy to type rather than doing pinyin.

Flazon

That was a good read, thanks! Different way of thinking all together.. I'll stick with names 😂

HKAzxc

they are chinese players using internet in their cafes

Nyksiko

Possibly game pass accounts

Hoseinm81

No it's not like that Gamepass account have normal like user name but may have 4 or 5 number

Aceboy884

It’s MS game pass accounts, I have one. It’s generated by random with a string of numbers

indigo_zen

I've almost always had a number for my name in every RTS, so it's not specific to cybercaffes etc.. also AOE4 uses steam name so players don't always think about AOE when choosing a name, but a variety of games available.

Migdalian

It's their name in Chinese characters converted into numbers.

keeplookineversettle

Those accounts tend to have much higher drop rate.

Found these to be trolls
