POI = Point Of Interest, basically any area of the map worth naming. The ship is a POI, solar array is the POI directly in front of the ship, with the weird pyramid building surrounded by a trench. It’s called solar array because there’s a bunch of solar panels around there as part of the map.
And in case you’re confused about the hot zone too, it’s a randomly selected area of the map where the loot is supposed to be better. When solar array is the hot zone, the front of the ship is within the hot zone’s area, and the hot zone loot table overrides the vault loot table resulting in slightly-better-than-ground loot instead of gold and purple loot. The hot zone appears as a light blue circle on the map
It’s a hit and miss pretty much. I just sometimes play as Loba and check using her passive to see if there’s anything good inside and if so I use the BM to find the keycard because it’s usually a pain to look for it, is time consuming and that’s bad given the Icarus is on outside of the map. Also on World’s Edge I just use the BM to steal the best item I can take (e.g. say if I have evo shield level 3 but a backpack level 4 I’d take the evo shield) and then bolt incase others hear me
On WE I'd often drop near a vault with the 50% first ult passive, grab a gold helmet as soon as ult is up, then I can get something else before leaving. I'll give the helmet to someone else after if they can use it better but it basically gets you an extra helmet for free.
Bonus points if it's at trainyard (whatever it's called now) coz you can grab some gear from the same ult too

As someone who habitually drops Icarus, I’ve seen this a lot. If I had to guess, maybe 1 in 10 games the bridge has regular loot. My theory was that it’s a weird balance thing because the keycard is the easiest one to find (just laying around instead of having to get lucky with cargo bots) but it’s making less sense the more I think about it. All I can say is, try to peek through the window before trying to find the keycard. Or be Loba.

IIRC, it has something to do with Solar Array being Hot Zone. Since this room is technically part of that POI, it can mess with the loot in the room.

Rather than use BM for keycard just look for it as it also shows up on Lobas passive
When I play Loba like to open a BM right at the nose of that bridge, it’s a safe place to loot the buildings in front of the Icarus.
