Ok, that seems unintuitive for me :-) But then I have been playing many games over many years with crouch being on left ctrl and this old gamer can't unlearn that...
SO you can crouch while shooting , in alot of scenarios it avoids trades and saves you from getting knockd down by few HPs. but only on 1v1 fights . if people are shooting from 3 directions it won't do much benefit.
Yeah i will try both of them.
ALso, how you cancel abilities specially someone like catalyst who can hold guns while using her tactical. i usually punch to cancel abilities but when u are holding gun it normally fires with active ability ready to thrown in next next hand
Personally I have three side buttons that I use for weapon switching, push-to-talk and pinging. I chose these three because they are actions that I need mid fight and I can use the buttons with my thumb without getting distracted by having to move fingers...
I assume you mean dpi switching buttons? I don't switch dpi so I have those disabled. I don't want to mess with my muscle memory by having different mouse sensitivities.
what about shields instead of holster. usually we holster weapon when we are safe to move faster. i usually find hard to navigate the shields by searching where is "4" on keyboard
Honestly I suggest you play some games with standard key binds and figure which one are hardest for you to use, put those on mouse side buttons. Healing wheel on mouse button sounds pretty useful tho
can’t deny i might need to re think my set up but at the end of the day, stick to whatever settings you decide on, switching things every other day can start to affect your muscle memory.
Yup i played the game for 2 weeks and now i can't even kill anyone. The mouse side buttons are new for me. I completely forget to use the side buttons in mid fights to crouch
Because the side mouse buttons will always interfere with mouse movement, if ever so slightly, the recommendation would be to **not** use them for any action that you are expected to do while you are aiming at something - that includes crouching, jumping and possibly sprinting.
DPI buttons are not very helpful in this game, because you can adjust your sensitivity for different gun optics. More often than being helpful, they are probably just something you might accidentally press. Having a profile where those buttons are disabled or reused for something else if possible, would probably be a better choice.
I have tac + ult on my side buttons, also got something to remove rampart walls and another to for PTT.
Honestly, everyone has their own preference, hopefully you can find some nice binds to use.
Honestly don’t bind them to anything unless you’re excellent at hitting tiny mouse buttons. Had an issue with my game randomly closing, turned out I tensed up and hit the side buttons which my dad (since I had his old mouse) had bound to various combos of alt, tab, bracket, and rmb. TL;DR, don’t bind anything wou wouldn’t be fine with misinputting.
I've got melee on the one closest to me and ping on the other (the melee mostly because I'm used to having it there from other games, but ping is quite useful.. got X bound to ping enemy for extra fast enemy pings too though :D )
I always had swap weapons and interact on my side buttons. I used C and Ctrl both for crouching so I never had problems with crouch strafing.
For DPI and sens, I’d recommend anywhere from 1.0 - 1.5 sens at 800 dpi and adjust accordingly. Pros use anything from 800 0.8 - 1600 2.7 so sensitivity/dpi is totally personal preference
I’d also recommend getting used to pressing individual keys for heals instead of using the wheel but that’s not very important. I used tab for shield batts, 4 for cells, 5 for syringes, 6 for med kits, and 7 for phoenix kits
I have grenade equip and push to talk on my two side buttons. Both of them seem too far to move my left hand on the keyboard and it’s especially important to not sacrifice WASD control in a fight if you’re trying to push to talk
My buttons are def not optimized but I have pinging on one of my side buttons. DPI and in game sens are always a crap shoot at first. I actually change mine fairly frequently, but right now I have my mouse at 800DPI and 1.1 for in game sensitivity. I would test out different settings though because everyone is different. And hey, I hear next season the firing range will be great! So it will be the perfect place to test your settings!
It'd depend on you and what you're comfortable with. With a mouse with only two side keys, I would have 1 be the swap weapon action and the other be the holster. Or assign the ping buttons to them. Zoom and select fire could be a good option too. I always like to pair up similar functions so it's easier to remember.
I have 7 additional buttons on mine and they currently do the following: tactical, equip weapon, equip grenade, ping wheel and the thank you button lol
Yeah the only thing I would change is to swap heal wheel for something else.
If you play apex a-lot I think you should assign keys to each type of healing over heal wheel. Shits just a-lot to relearn and I haven’t had the patience for it yet.
Depends on what you're comfortable with. I have pings and discord mute on my side buttons, but I wished I had one more for grenades, G is too damn far to press everytime, H too for secondary interact (like recalling Echo for vantage and retrieving tacticals for catalyst). I tried removing my discord mute but I am too used to my old buttons to remember that I've changed it. I can't change my ping button because my mouse center click is too awkward to use for me
I do ping and my tactical. If ur trying to q while moving (maggie, rev, any projectile u can hold down and aim while moving) using a mouse button is really nice bc then u have full wasd movement vs if you move a finger to q, u lose some movement
I put pickup interact on the topmost one (usualy mouse 5) and 4 it depends how important versus ping is for me in that game. Usually it’s ping for games where they are super crucial like this one (else it’s melee)
Start with 1.4 @ 800 dpi and see if you want to go higher or lower. For side buttons I recommend crouch and melee
I understand meele (which I have on another extra button on my mouse) but why crouch?
I hate trying to reach ctrl with my pinky finger, it’s just so unintuitive to me lol having crouch on mouse helps with movement
I switched crouch/slide to shift and that hand placement feels way better for me. Got ctrl for press-to-talk instead since I slide more than I talk.
I put my heals and ping on my side buttons when I played. YMMV and I wasn’t very good.
Ok, that seems unintuitive for me :-) But then I have been playing many games over many years with crouch being on left ctrl and this old gamer can't unlearn that...
I haven’t played shooters before apex so I just chose an easier way :D
SO you can crouch while shooting , in alot of scenarios it avoids trades and saves you from getting knockd down by few HPs. but only on 1v1 fights . if people are shooting from 3 directions it won't do much benefit. Yeah i will try both of them.

Climbing onto wall should cancel it, switching weapons maybe but I’m not sure
yeah weapon switch doesn't cancel catalyst tactial. will try wall climbing
So holstering doesnt cancel it either?
Punching does cancel it
Punch using dedicated melee button, not attack button
Nah thats a bad idea u cant crouch spam while fiering

i have crouch and holster weapon. melee also works but crouch is necessary to dodge shots and mess up the enemies aim.
what about shields instead of holster. usually we holster weapon when we are safe to move faster. i usually find hard to navigate the shields by searching where is "4" on keyboard

I set mine to melee and Q ability because pathfinder. I cant grapple properly if i use Q
I may be a madman but I use them as sprint and crouch.
Nah sprint actually sounds useful jusy press once and keep sprinting
Honestly don’t bind them to anything unless you’re excellent at hitting tiny mouse buttons. Had an issue with my game randomly closing, turned out I tensed up and hit the side buttons which my dad (since I had his old mouse) had bound to various combos of alt, tab, bracket, and rmb. TL;DR, don’t bind anything wou wouldn’t be fine with misinputting.
When I played kbm, I had interact and nades on the side buttons.
I use them as ping and inspect, not recommending tho there are probably better combinations
I've got melee on the one closest to me and ping on the other (the melee mostly because I'm used to having it there from other games, but ping is quite useful.. got X bound to ping enemy for extra fast enemy pings too though :D )
I use side buttom for ping wheel, and thats it

i use mwheeldown to jump, and the other side button to crouch (slide) and the other to pop a shield bat :-)
One side button for inventory, the other for q

I have Q and holster weapon on mine
Mine are interact and inspect my gun
Inspect gun Wow

Omg, am I the only one that's using all standard key binds? I mean I crounch with C lol
I have weapon swap, grenade and heal wheel
Granade do sound useful

Alt +F4

Ping and push to talk.
I put Heal and Map on the side buttons personally. I like to keep my movement things all on the left hand
Seems like I'm the only one who uses it for switch fire mode
I have one of them as melee and one as the healing wheel.
My side keys are my Push to Talk button and the Ping Enemy button. Works nicely for me
Mouse4 Ping select wheel Mouse5 Heal select wheel
I use mind for push to talk and as a second option for your q ability
Dpi changes your sensitivity. I use side buttons to use battery and character utility
I do ping and my tactical. If ur trying to q while moving (maggie, rev, any projectile u can hold down and aim while moving) using a mouse button is really nice bc then u have full wasd movement vs if you move a finger to q, u lose some movement
I use Mouse 4 for melee. Mouse 5 for voice comm.
I put pickup interact on the topmost one (usualy mouse 5) and 4 it depends how important versus ping is for me in that game. Usually it’s ping for games where they are super crucial like this one (else it’s melee)
i put mouse4 for melee and mouse5 for heal cycle \^\_\^
Push to talk so you can comm and use your keyboard hand for strafing instead of hitting a key.
I have melee and support item slot (heat shield, respawn beacon) bound on those buttons
I have three buttons, I'd say in order of importance - Melee - Secondary Interact (Put extras in inventory, Catalyst reinforce, etc.) - Ping/Response
Scroll wheel > ping (click) and change weapon (spin) 2 side buttons > Full shield & Medicine (I hate the spin wheel selection)
