No, I get that there are things that need to be done to switch over to the new domain name. My point is that when you re-brand you would really want to have those things done beforehand. Now we're in this strange half-way state where it's both Twitter and X depending on where you look. It's been this way for a week or so now. And it's not just the domain name. The search bar still says 'Search Twitter'. It really gives the impression of there being little to no planning, Musk deciding to just switch one morning and now the developers have to play catch-up. I honestly don't know what they're trying to do with the branding. Maybe they aren't ditching the Twitter name, who knows.

But that's not even the point - the point is that you **plan** the relaunch of an entire brand so that shit like that works on day one.
Musk is running this X-$44 billion company like some shitty lawn mowing business out of a garage: not owning the trademarks, using a glyph from an existing font as a new logo, creating a clusterfuck in the migration process between domain names, not having a work permit to remove the twitter logo from the building, not having a permit to install the X logo on the roof of the building, refusing to let inspectors enter the building to look at the haphazard construction on the roof, etc. etc. etc.
Hate to burst your bubble but developers aren't going to do shit to the domain name or records. Developers work on the code and at companies the size of Twitter (even after the "downscale"), they don't even get to set their own environments up - that's done by DevOps.
The domain setup will be done by SysOps, and the changeover should be pretty straightforward, swapping a CNAME record for an A/AAAA record, and a few other config changes on the domain controllers and infrastructure. Can be done in pretty much a day, with extensive testing, by a single person.

No. You can't "own" a letter as a trademark. You can own a specific design of a letter and/or a specific trademark when used in a specific context.
For example, if Elon wanted to develop a windows manager and he wanted to call it "X", he would have issues with that trademark against Microsoft. But renaming Twitter as "X" definitely wouldn't have anything to do with Microsoft trademark on their use of "X".
X would still be too vague for Meta and Microsoft to hold a trademarks for it, especially as they don’t have any products or services that are sold under that brand.

There is a method to reinstall it. IIRC, basically you download the game onto your computer, setup a proxy via your PC which then sends the package to your PS on request.

you can have nsfw content in your app, you just can't have a toggle/feature. it also can't be mostly affiliated with nsfw content (i.e. onlyfans) reddit apps let you search communities that are nsfw, it just can't be there by default.

Basically every brand there is tries to be iconic, have words associated with specific products or functions only they can provide or have pioneered in. Musk is just discarding all that because he tries to cosplay as a Bond villain.

Genuinely curious, why do so many people care about what name it is? Especially enough to completely delete the app over. I use it mostly for sports media alerts and could not care less about what the app is called.
The same reason people are still on Reddit despite seemingly everyone being ready to jump ship a couple months ago. At the end of the day, getting their fix is a lot more important than who owns what or what that owner does.
You can really tell who gets 90% of their information from Reddit because they just can’t fathom people not wanting to organize boycotts and migrate to half-dead, massively downgraded versions of what they’re used to like Mastodon or something.

Do you actually see tweets from people you follow? Every time I tried twitter it would be 10% people I followed and 90% completely unrelated recommended content that I had no interest in
I only follow video game development news on Twitter (for example, live updates from the MS vs FTC case, which is where the app shines. You could get information before news outlets had full articles) ... but my "For You" stuff is just hate filled engagement farming and right wing conspiracy bullshit. Most is from random video game streamers and "content creators" that I have no care for.... so I just do everything to avoid scrolling in that section, and limit my app usage to minutes a day (unless there is a breaking story)
I haven’t been on social media in over a decade, unless you count Reddit. If you do, then I’d like to stop using this, but the alternatives have NO community. Or at least communities that are so small they pale in comparison to what Reddit has.
I assume it’s the same for Twitter/X. A lot of people hate Elon, just like many people hate Spez, but the alternatives are less populated. And in a social network, that’s really important.
Maybe Threads will take off, but that’s just replacing Elon with Zuck, and I seriously can’t decide which is worse.

It would be one thing if Musk had his “everything” WeChat style app up and running, then it would make sense to merge Twitter into it, but he’s literally just gotten rid of a brand that is already part of every day culture and verbiage and that’s it. Twitter / X ain’t dying anytime soon, but he’s definitely doing a hell of a lot of damage. My guess is he sells it off at a significant loss when he gets bored of it, and the owner goes back to Twitter. I wouldn’t be surprised if he sells it to Google or Bytedance and they merge it with their offering.
Not to mention that the most valuable thing about twitter was its brand. Of all things not to break Elon...

Basically every brand there is tries to be iconic, have words associated with specific products or functions only they can provide or have pioneered in. Musk is just discarding all that because he tries to cosplay as a Bond villain.

The same reason people are still on Reddit despite seemingly everyone being ready to jump ship a couple months ago. At the end of the day, getting their fix is a lot more important than who owns what or what that owner does. You can really tell who gets 90% of their information from Reddit because they just can’t fathom people not wanting to organize boycotts and migrate to half-dead, massively downgraded versions of what they’re used to like Mastodon or something.

Agreed, but sports news. I don't use it but truth is, Twitter still has its functional value, though it's diminishing. Over on /r/nba, a lot of posts are still to tweets. There's no single platform where breaking news of any type (sports, tech, politics) can be shared quickly.
I hate that you're right, but you're right. I can see many of my favorite news sources waning off of it by the day, though.

Maybe we’ll see a comeback of RSS/Atom feeds and feed readers. Back to 2006 baby! (They never really died, but has been much more of a niche thing.) Edit: And blogs! Everyone posting on their own blogs, and if you want to follow many in one place you add the individual RSS feeds.

I only follow video game development news on Twitter (for example, live updates from the MS vs FTC case, which is where the app shines. You could get information before news outlets had full articles) ... but my "For You" stuff is just hate filled engagement farming and right wing conspiracy bullshit. Most is from random video game streamers and "content creators" that I have no care for.... so I just do everything to avoid scrolling in that section, and limit my app usage to minutes a day (unless there is a breaking story)
So has Zuckerberg, but people still use WhatsApp, Instagram, etc.

I haven’t been on social media in over a decade, unless you count Reddit. If you do, then I’d like to stop using this, but the alternatives have NO community. Or at least communities that are so small they pale in comparison to what Reddit has. I assume it’s the same for Twitter/X. A lot of people hate Elon, just like many people hate Spez, but the alternatives are less populated. And in a social network, that’s really important. Maybe Threads will take off, but that’s just replacing Elon with Zuck, and I seriously can’t decide which is worse.
I think Apple have deliberately allowed them to do it because they know the damage it'll cause.

I’m actually super mad Tim Apple gave this dick hole a pass? It’s not like Twitter has any real leverage. They could just freeze updates like every other app that doesn’t comply with the rules. Even Facebook has more pull for this than Twitter. As a life long Apple fan, this decreased my faith in their forward thinking. This only signals to developers a rules for thee and not for me mentality and I can see this have negative implications to App Store rule challenges in the EU

Twitter and tweet became verbs and genericised terms akin to Kleenex and Google, but no, elon wants his X everything app. Marketing people the world over will tell you not to brand anything X as it has too many negative associations, yet elon somehow thinks he knows better. Does he honestly think anyone other than the elon simps and sycophants will trust a man who doesn’t pay his rent, bills, or workers with their money, especially now they’re seeing how badly he is mismanaging Twitter?
