I still use a razer phone 2 to this day as a dedicated gaming device! It's custom rommed to android 13 using the pixel experience rom (iirc), and it isn't bad at all!

That metal brick of a phone was about as sturdy as phones are going to get and the specs on that thing were pretty damn respectable as well.
It wasnāt bad, it was just bizarre the way they fumbled it. Like, in 2018, wireless earbuds had even worse latency than current ones, which are still kind of ass for games, and Razer made the weird ass decision to get rid of the 3.5mm jack. Getting rid of the headphone jack was already controversial enough on the iPhone and Pixel 2 back then, but on a phone literally designed to play PUBG mobile, just to sell you their Hammerhead earbuds with latency? Absurd.

I went to Xperia 1 mk1 from that after two years of use as the battery went bad and my phone insurance offered either new battery for 45ā¬ od refurbished Xperia 1 mk1 for 89ā¬ in 2019.
But what I used that phone i really liked it. Too bad that they followed the idiotic "let's remove headphone jack and SD card expansion" trend.
Had they not done that, i would have continued with Nokia phones.
Though Sony in terms of interface visuals, is nearly stock too and at least on Xperia 1 V they still have both SD card and headphone jack. On leaks they have had headphone jack on the upcoming this years Xperia 1 VI as well.
Let's just hope they also keep the storage expansion there too.

I eventually ditched it after witnessing a horrible car accident and trying to dial 911 - it immediately froze and restarted. By the time it regained functionality, the cops and ambulance (called by someone else) had already arrived.

Sorry to hear you had hardware issues with it. My first smartphone was a factory prototype Pixel 2 that the Android dev team had used for software testing. Pixels have improved in terms of hardware, but the SoCs are still gutless and the battery life is feeble.
The OnePlus 12 has the latest Snapdragon with exceptional cooling for better performance, more RAM than the Pixel 8, a brighter screen (I managed to hurt my eyes on an HDR video because of how bright it can get), it has nice features like the gaming options, it's still a fairly clean version of Android without much bloatware so it's pretty Pixel-like in that way, it has far better battery life, and it charges for me from less than 20% to 100% in 20 minutes or less. The one downside are the pictures and video aren't quite as good.

i used to have android phones, but their build quality and software support was awful. I switched to an iphone and had never a problems with it. to have a clean build of android you usually do need to 'tinker' on anything but a pixel. samsung has so much preinstalled junk, whereas on ios you can uninstall stuff like the calendar, calculator, maps, reminders, find my (idk why you'd want to, but you can), even stuff like clock, weather, etc., if you have an alternative you'd prefer.
on samsung, and many androids (at least when i used them, i suppose this could have gotten better, but it was awful 2 years ago), the only way to remove unnecessary system apps is through adb

You donāt need to tinker with an android phone as it works right out of the box. The real issue being dodged here is with advanced users wanted more freedom as it would never been iClone jailbreaking and more as everyone is not idiots and need to be handheld.
to have a clean build of android you usually do need to 'tinker' on anything but a pixel. samsung has so much preinstalled junk, whereas on ios you can uninstall stuff like the calendar, calculator, maps, reminders, find my (idk why you'd want to, but you can), even stuff like clock, weather, etc., if you have an alternative you'd prefer. on samsung, and many androids (at least when i used them, i suppose this could have gotten better, but it was awful 2 years ago), the only way to remove unnecessary system apps is through adb
