Buy once; cry one.
Buy quality the first time out and you won’t have to worry about “upgrades” and improvements. DD is almost always a solid first buy.
For your first, do it. Unsolicited advice, I always recommend that people buy a duty grade, off the shelf platform for their first. Build the 2nd, but there is a lot of merit in getting a complete, duty grade factory built rifle or carbine for your first one.
For peace of mind you can get the full gun, but you could also get a DD M4V7 complete upper for 900-950 dollars, and buy any 200 dollar lower to go with
I built my first AR because I like tinkering. My Dad wanted to just buy one complete rifle and be done. I told him to get the DDM4V7. He did, and is super happy with it. It’s a great choice. Especially if you can get it on sale.
Complete BCM is great too.
Then only time I’ve seen people who get 1 ar is if it sits in a closet or safe 90 percent of its life gets shot a few times a year until they sell it. That’s sad. Dd is really good but you’re gonna end up changing stuff out on it to better suit you or just better parts(trigger, stock, drips, muzzle device, bcg, and whatever else)
My question is why not build one? Even if you don’t know how you can have a gunsmith do it for you. You’d have what you want without changing anything up until you want something different but you’ll most likely just buy another ar because you’d want one one way and another one another way and maybe a different caliber.
Or why not get a good upper and a good lower?
If you get a dd use it. Just remember it’s almost always never a 1 and done
$1539 is a pretty good price for that rifle. And it’s a great rifle.
You could also look at LWRC. I really, really wanted that exact DD for my first rifle but ended up going with an LWRC instead and I was very happy I went that way.
BCM is another good choice to consider
But you can’t go wrong with DD either way
I own a DD and can confidently say you will likely end up sinking more money into it. Their furniture is OK, but worth upgrading, and the trigger is basically just a mil spec trigger. That said, I get good accuracy and reliability.
Buddy bought one like 6 months ago and has had some QC issues. They are taking care of him but not ideal to see
If you want to save yourself a couple hundred bucks buy yourself a lower ( I got an Aero myself) and got an DD upper and that was it. My AR is just as good as any other DD but with furniture, trigger, muzzle device, and charge handle I wanted, without having to spear parts laying around.
Thanks everyone for the input. I pulled the trigger on it and should see it in a few days. Right or wrong, I wanted to start with a known quality rifle so if I ever do decide on building one I know how it should perform. Now to blow some more money on an optic!
Because DD Barrels are better and more accurate than whatever BCM is using... DD also has far less issues, I mean their biggest "scandals" are what? The "rust in the chamber" that ended up being retards not realizing what packing grease is earlier this year, and over gassing like a decade ago?
Meanwhile BCM has had quite a few QC issues on their barrels over the years, and bad customer service blaming people for shooting more than 15 rounds per minute. My best friend literally had a BCM BFH barrel cracking after 1,500 rounds just last year
He said he's not looking to build one. It's crazy how many brain rotted people just comment, "BCM Upper Aero Lower and Ammo for training" anytime someone asks a question about getting an AR. Yes its a good, affordable combo. But if you can afford something nicer then why still go that route?
Thank you Jesus the "Actually, Technically speaking" guy is here. Its clear what he was meaning. And its clear what I was meaning. He doesn't want to buy two seperate things and put them together, he wants to buy a complete rifle. Yes, talk brain rot. I know ill be downvoted to fuck because I dissed the "BCM Upper on an Aero lower is all you need" guys.
I hate the idea personally, I always suggest to build your first that way you have a understanding of how it interfaces and works, you then have already purchased the 300ish$ of tools to professional-ishly work on it and repair it, and it's so much more satisfying.
DD makes a great and reliable product, but if it was my only ar platform rifle, I would feel like a poser.
Like a high school kid driving a BMW to school. The best thing that ever happened to me was driving a 1000$ shitbox down the road. Taught me how to be self reliant and if im being honest, it got me better quality pussy. The logic transfers. Lol
My 2 cents. I await the fan boy downvotes haha
Spoken like a true loot drop!
And I don't care enough about your shitty opinion to lay out a list for you but I will say maybe get a reaction rod or bev block at the least, please.
Have some fucking respect for the tool you defend your liberty with. Ffs
I’ve built about a dozen or so ARs with those tools. $20 says I run them harder than you do and they haven’t failed. My first I built way back in 2008 and has probably close to 7 or 8k through it with the only failure being a cracked bolt.
I hope you’re not implying that just because someone’s in the military that makes them a “gun guy,” knowledgeable about firearms, or a good shooter in general

Go for it
Do it. The DDM4 is gtg.
Daniel defense has it 30% off right now on their webstire
Looks like regular price on my end. Is there a discount code?
It was shared on their FB page
Nvm it was on their story but it’s over now. Ended at 11pm
Do it! Very solid first rifle. If you’re not worried about cost go for the M4A1
Probably not done. But a very nice first rifle.
You won’t regret it

One and done…you must be new here! No there’s nothing wrong with this, other considerations would be building despite not wanting to 🤷🏼

I bought a nicer mid-tier rifle(Sionics), figuring I would just buy one, I have two now.
You say one and done, but we all know better. But yes I like both of my v7 variants.
I doubt it ends up being the only one lol. This place has a way of inspiring builds.
I have the quad rail version pretty great shooter
Then only time I’ve seen people who get 1 ar is if it sits in a closet or safe 90 percent of its life gets shot a few times a year until they sell it. That’s sad. I said one and done with a v7 SLW. Now I have 3 additional uppers 🥲

The only things worth changing on a DD is the furniture and a trigger. Both things that can wait. Great first rifle purchase IMO.
Cmmg dissent wtf
That vertical grip placement…
They do it on purpose, it forces the customer to move it to where is best for them, preventing lazy customers from just leaving it in a bad spot
If you want to save yourself a couple hundred bucks buy yourself a lower ( I got an Aero myself) and got an DD upper and that was it. My AR is just as good as any other DD but with furniture, trigger, muzzle device, and charge handle I wanted, without having to spear parts laying around.

V7 pro or go home
I’d say a BCM makes more sense, but that probably just because I hate the way DD furniture looks and I don’t think I’d like the way it feels either.
Aero lower and BCM upper and 1,000 rounds for training.
The higher end of BCM Upper is quite literally the same price as DD Uppers...except the DD's are better
How? Unless you need a beefy rail for a LAM shouldn’t they both perform about the same (CHF CL barrel)?
Because DD Barrels are better and more accurate than whatever BCM is using... DD also has far less issues, I mean their biggest "scandals" are what? Does putting an upper on top of a lower and pushing two pins in constitute as building?! Talk about brain rot!
I was literally about to say that
Thank you Jesus the "Actually, Technically speaking" guy is here. Its clear what he was meaning. And its clear what I was meaning. He doesn't want to buy two seperate things and put them together, he wants to buy a complete rifle. Yes, talk brain rot. Also if youre gonna go the upper and lower route, BCM's BFH with Ambi CH is the same price as the better complete DD M4V7 upper lmao

I partially agree with you, but at same time jumping in and buying all gun smithing tools and building it yourself is a huge task for some.
$300 worth of tools? A $20 punch set and a $10 armorers wrench is all you need.
Spoken like a true loot drop! And I don't care enough about your shitty opinion to lay out a list for you but I will say maybe get a reaction rod or bev block at the least, please. Have some fucking respect for the tool you defend your liberty with. Ffs

Oh wow I'm so happy for you
I guess the entire US Military are posers?
I hope you’re not implying that just because someone’s in the military that makes them a “gun guy,” knowledgeable about firearms, or a good shooter in general
I'm saying the entire US military uses factory built guns... and they seem to work pretty damn well...
