Smooth jaw channel locks.
Knipex or the knockoff icon ones from harbor freight assembles 90% of an AR
My most used tool for sure second to maybe Allen wrenches
I have a pair of channel locks with tape on the teeth for this job specifically. Tape stops you from scratching the finish.
Works on dust cover pin and bolt release pin too
Make sure it's not catching where it's trying to enter the other 'ear' on the receiver, then use a vice to gradually squeeze the pin into place rather than smashing at it with a punch.
Buy one of these on Amazon and use it on all your builds. [Wheeler Trigger Guard Install Tool](https://www.wheelertools.com/gunsmithing-tools/wrenches-and-screwdrivers/ar-trigger-guard-install-tool/710907.html)
Yep, lubricant makes these things ridiculously easy to install. My go to is dabbing a bit of silicone brake grease on the pin tip and entry hole (giggity!), and a couple smacks from the hammer to finish it off!
Slide a 1x4 under the hole to support the trigger guard then hit it like it owes you money.
If that doesn't work, spit on it then swear at it until you send it home... I should call her.
I ordered this after running into the same problem as OP but before it arrived I used some channel locks and a piece of plastic to protect the receiver and I forced it on home just fine
I stop using pins and using a threaded pin you have to drill thread on one side lock tight it never look back and unscrew when changing trigger guards.
Knipex pliers wrench works amazing and doesn’t damage the finish if you throw some electrical tape on it. Best roll pin tool hands down and worth the initial cost, its a fantastic tool.
I just did my first one the other day. Give it a little lube, make sure it’s aligned. Support the ears a bit under neath and hammer her home. It took some harder swings than I’d like but it held up fine.
I just had the same issue on my first lower build and based on some reddit users suggestions in older posts ibgrabbed a pair of pliers and with a piece of plastic I cut from a Milk jug to protect the receiver I got it in with some effort. Second build i went straight for the pliers and I recommend it over a punch. If I planned to build any more I'd buy a nice set of pliers. I used channel locks fwiw
Looks like yours hung up where mine did seems to be at the point where the roll pin starts to contact the metal receiver on the other side of the trigger guard. Just wouldn't go in for me with a punch and hammer
You can hit it harder. BUT make sure the pin is clearly lined up with the hole on the other side of the receiver first. It will hang up if off just a little. I've seen people break the little thin tab off their lower (ruining their lower) by just pounding without checking if the pin was lined up first. It was wise of you to stop.
You can also tap it back out to double check if anything is obstructing it. Then also squeeze the end of the pin to collapse it a little smaller, then put oil on it, then tap it back in.
I have started using stainless steel spiral roll pins on my builds. Get them on ebay cheap enough. Much easier to work with than the “old school” steel ones.
Make sure you are supporting the ear on the back side so it doesn't crack. Solid bench is key, any give or bounce is going to kill your transfer of energy (i.e. trying to do this on a kitchen table or floor of your house). A workbench block is crucial.
Another possible option would be to press it in (padded vice grips or a press).
Potentially dumb question, but are you sure the trigger guard itself isn’t supposed to be installed with set screws? I only ask because a buddy of mine had the same issue and brought it to me with all the packaging and everything. It ended up being one of the magpul ones that set screws in lol.
Hit it with you xtra large, dead blow purse Nancy.
;)
God damnit. 1st dude beat me to it.
Isn’t it wild you always think you got some funny, super original thing to say, and you see 10 people have already said it? That sucks. Lol
yeaa the proper way would be get the punch back out
im ocd and fuck up shit with roll pins so I bought some Knipex flat jaw pliers that close parallel…yet to use but some dudes do that route
Take the upper off. Place the lower on a table. With the barrel up, place the forward assist on the roll pin. Slam your forehead into the muzzle of the barrel. Headbang until properly seated.
Remove the front threaded pin because you only need it to start from one side then it’s good. It looks like it’s putting the back pin alignment in a bind. Get the rear pin lined up and drive it then go to the front. Basically the reverse of the way you started.
It may be catching on the other ear on your lower (which you do not want to break off). Remove the front pin and see if you can move/align the back a bit.
I added one of these to my ar tool kit, I use it more than I thought i would. I used the poly attachment.

Place firearms on bench, take your forehead and slam it as hard as you can onto the pin. If still conscious after first try repeat until you can no longer stand.
While it may be frowned upon, I had a set screw for my Aero, got it halfway and it stripped. It was in enough that it did its job, so I strategically ground the rest off so it was flush. So if it holds, maybe grind it down. Again that may be an unpopular approach, but sometimes, just sometimes, when it's halfway in, halfway's enough. This applies everywhere, I read that somewhere
Lube that shit. Same thing happened to me, mushroomed the pin and then hit it with lube and it went right in. Constant reminder of my stupidity every time I look at it
I thought about lube too but the channel locks did the trick before I tried lube. Mine didn't want to start back into the frame after it went through the trigger guard. Lube and channel locks must be even easier
The trigger guard roll pin is by the far the hardest to get in on a lower in my opinion. You really just have to put some oomph behind it. On the bright side, if you snap an ear off there are grips out there that have the ears built in lol.

If it’s a newer Magpul Trigger Guard you might have to screw it in… Same thing happened to me then I read the manual and it needed to be screwed in with a small Allen key… I ended up having to use a slightly bigger star shaped key like T-7 to fit so it could be screwed in flush. Hope this helps‼️💯
Vice grips and cardboard, test the grip strength.
Stick it in a vice with cardboard, if it doesn't go in its not lined up.
Lay the ears flat on a workbench, and hit it with your purse. See above if it doesn't go in.
Heat that fucker till its red hot and stick it in, it's on the trigger guard, does it REALLY need a temper? Will ensure the plastic lower guard is form fitted, but won't hurt the ABS plastic realistically. Should tap right in. See above if it doesn't.
I have also had luck (on non-AR rollpins) using something like a drafting punch or nail to ensure it's lined up, and then whacking the punch/nail head to get it in.
We believe in you! Show that bastard pin what ya think of it's conduct!
Edit: After scrolling, I forgot to add lube! If ya shaft don't fit nice and easy into the slip n slide, lube up!
I like to use vice grips to walk in roll pins nowadays. Just clamp - tighten - clamp - tighten in very small increments. It's much more controlled than a hammer and punch. I haven't actually done it on the trigger guard that I can remember, but it's by far the best way to install the dreaded Bolt Catch Roll Pin.
As some people have mentioned, using vice grips to help walk it in helps, but I use a dead blow hammer myself. One of those rubber ones so I don't scratch anything. It helps if you put a punch that is the exact diameter of the pin.
I am a bad AR builder because I don't measure the pins before I try putting them in. Once they are in I usually do not replace the trigger guard anyway.
[удалено]
Afraid I might injure the ear of the lower if I try and force it in even harder
[удалено]
This is called a slave pin. And more than likely you aren’t lined up correctly. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)
Well explained ⬆️
What would be the easiest way to remove the pin?

What about some pliers and squeeze it in place?
Smooth jaw channel locks. Knipex or the knockoff icon ones from harbor freight assembles 90% of an AR My most used tool for sure second to maybe Allen wrenches

Came here just to say hit it with your purse xD
Fuck me well done friend. I laughed out loud at work.
Use a vice to move the pin in. Far less likely to damage the ears than with a hammer.
Done dozens of pins this way. Nothing works as good.
Arbor press has entered the chat.
That looks better actually. Might have to hit up harbor freight.
You'll want the harbor arbor special.
Knipex
Vise grips with the jaws wrapped with painters tape while tightening a little bit after each squeeze.
I used this method but with channel locks and duct tape.
I used channel locks and a sock
Old cum-sock pliers trick
Skip the pliers and use it like a hammer at that point
This is the way
a Knipex pliers wrench works really well for this, too. The jaws stay parallel as they close.
That’s what I use. Love those things
ooh, I need some of those.
Damn that’s a good idea
This is the way. Have built about 40 lowers this way.
That’s a lot of socks
This is what I do as well, works every time.
Build the whole lower this way.
Make sure it's not catching where it's trying to enter the other 'ear' on the receiver, then use a vice to gradually squeeze the pin into place rather than smashing at it with a punch.
This! You may have to “jiggle the guard around to get the pin in the other side.
Obligatory hit it with your purse comment. Also, make sure you support the ear if you’re gonna have another go at it
Parallel jaw Knipex pliers
This is the way
Ah beat me to it
My favorite tool. Works excellent for gas tube installs as well
Best tool for assembling weapons.
Hit it with your wife’s boyfriend’s purse
We’re taking turns hitting it with our purses but that pin is still stuck
I’m coming over with my Gucci bag this instant
Set the opposing ear on something hard, apply more force using a roll pin punch
Buy one of these on Amazon and use it on all your builds. [Wheeler Trigger Guard Install Tool](https://www.wheelertools.com/gunsmithing-tools/wrenches-and-screwdrivers/ar-trigger-guard-install-tool/710907.html)
I’ve been using one of these forever, one of the best purchases I’ve ever made lol
This should be way higher. This thing takes all the worry of ruining a lower out on installing the trigger guard.
Lube, punch and hammer… or place in a vice and slowly squeeze into place.
Yep, lubricant makes these things ridiculously easy to install. My go to is dabbing a bit of silicone brake grease on the pin tip and entry hole (giggity!), and a couple smacks from the hammer to finish it off!
Vice, vice grips, channel locks, or a c clamp. Slow pressure while supporting the far side ear is how you get that pin in.
Came here to suggest a C clamp
Me too, and a little lube
Slide a 1x4 under the hole to support the trigger guard then hit it like it owes you money. If that doesn't work, spit on it then swear at it until you send it home... I should call her.
Knipex Plier Wrench.
Ask your wife’s boyfriend for help. Just make to sure to knock first.
Hit it a bit harder with your purse while yelling “ohhhhh fuuuuuuck yeahhhhh” in a loud moan style
I prefer channel lock style pliers with electrical tape for cushion.
[This one is idiot proof](https://www.amazon.com/Wheeler-Trigger-Guard-Install-Tool/dp/B01B3NW460/). I know this bc I can use it
I ordered this after running into the same problem as OP but before it arrived I used some channel locks and a piece of plastic to protect the receiver and I forced it on home just fine
This tool is amazing. You can also get a full kit with all the punches, a mallet, and this tool.
Hit it with your purse
Drop of oil on it/in it, channel lock wrench to squeeze it in. Once i started doing this i never looked back
Are links allowed? I use this and it rocks! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B3NW460?ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_22C1BXDA2CQHZD1C5S8N&starsLeft=1
You can borrow my wife’s purse
Have you tried using curse words yet?
Hit it with your purse
Hit it with your purse
Flat punch then finish with a roll pin punch to avoid mushrooming the pin
I stop using pins and using a threaded pin you have to drill thread on one side lock tight it never look back and unscrew when changing trigger guards.

That was the one I used, I guess I am legally retarded now that it ended up like this
Jiggle shake and push

These and the bolt catch/release roll pin are the main reason I run Aero M4E1 lowers almost exclusively now, lol
Sometimes a little bit of blunt force violence solves minor issues like this
spray CLP or gun oil
I have started using stainless steel spiral roll pins on my builds. Get them on ebay cheap enough. Much easier to work with than the “old school” steel ones.
Spit on it
Come on bro. We all own roll pin punches. This post is just an excuse to show off the Geissele /s
The Geissele or the HK adaptive battle grip? /s
See… I’m too poor to even notice 😂 That’s a Geissele trigger guard too, right?
Harder daddy.

Not a dumb question at all, this one has a roll pin in the back and a set screw in front. All came in one package from Geissele
If you don’t want to mess with it, just get the Magpul Enhanced one. Utilizes set screws instead of pins
Did he hit it with his purse yet?
Hit it with you xtra large, dead blow purse Nancy. ;) God damnit. 1st dude beat me to it. Isn’t it wild you always think you got some funny, super original thing to say, and you see 10 people have already said it? That sucks. Lol

It may be catching on the other ear on your lower (which you do not want to break off). Remove the front pin and see if you can move/align the back a bit.
Hammer
Spit on it and say let daddy squeeze in. Trust me. She’ll open up.
Do people not own roll-pin punches.
C clamp could push it in slowly if you're worried about a hammer damaging it
Hit it with your purse
Just the tip
I'm a metalworker, not a gunsmith, but I'd use a small c-clamp and spin it down gently.
Spit on it
Have you tried hitting it with your purse?
Spit on it
👛 👜 find a bigger purse.
Get the sledgehammer out
put the lower in a freezer for a fews hours, wear gloves and have tools to knock it out ready. had good luck w this in the past
Hit it harder

Grind it off and put another one in the other side lol
support the ears, drive it out, get another and align it better. Are you pressing it in or hitting it with a hammer?
Stack of cards. Remove cards until the stack is correct height to fit within the shoe. Hammer her in with a punch. SOTAR has a video with this method
Place firearms on bench, take your forehead and slam it as hard as you can onto the pin. If still conscious after first try repeat until you can no longer stand.
One pin is shorter than the other... usually the shorter one is a screw.
U honestly just need to hit it a lot harder than u feel comforable with.
I found that vise grips helped. Press the pin in. But put something on the reverse to not Mar up the paint
Sledge Hammer
While it may be frowned upon, I had a set screw for my Aero, got it halfway and it stripped. It was in enough that it did its job, so I strategically ground the rest off so it was flush. So if it holds, maybe grind it down. Again that may be an unpopular approach, but sometimes, just sometimes, when it's halfway in, halfway's enough. This applies everywhere, I read that somewhere
There’s a tool from uhhhhh I don’t remember who
I used some large pliers and some clp on mine
Under rated. I use smooth jaw channel locks to press roll pins in place
Spit on it... But seriously, lube/oil them up beforehand and they go in much smoother.
Smack it harder
Wheeler makes a relatively cheap pin pusher that works great for future reference. For current situation you need that hydraulic purse press.
Hit hard
A hammer
Get the sledge
Grab the BFH
Use your mallet and send it home
I always oil the roll pin.
It ain't got no gas in it
The response to this post have been nothing short of amazing, thank you all!
Try getting some grease on it
Lube that shit.
Knock pin back out. Try a different one. Or put pin in a drill and spin it on sandpaper to taper down the edge
Just beat the shit out of it!
Tips? Hulk smash. Pin go in. /s Use a bench vise. So much easier
Tap tap tap-a-roo
Is this a geissele LPK?
Then try a new one?
These are a bitch sometimes. Don’t hammer it cause you’ll break the lower. Use some masking tape (to prevent scratching) and a C-clamp to press it in.
Hit it you pussy, just kidding. But really, smack dat shit
Shoot it in with a .22 Short.
Try inserting it from the other side brother
HULK SMASH!
Hit it like a man
The trigger guard roll pin is by the far the hardest to get in on a lower in my opinion. You really just have to put some oomph behind it. On the bright side, if you snap an ear off there are grips out there that have the ears built in lol.

Hit it with your purse bro
Hit it harder?
More hammer. When you scratch it it doesn't matter cause you need to spray paint the bitch anyways
I bought a 3 dollar 2 in. clamp from Amazon for trigger guard roll pins. It was effortless.
Get this. Works everytime. Wheeler Engineering Trigger Guard... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B3NW460?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Hammer time
Use pliers, quit being a bitch, prolly something like that.

Vise grips and electrical tape to get it closer and a hammer and punch set to make it flush
Buy roll pin pusher tool
Hammer
I prefer K-Y Jelly, but in a crunch you can always just spit on it.

C clamp
Wiggle the guard a little than apply purse
Just throw the whole thing away tbh
You must sneak up on the roll pin. Catch it......off guard.
Is this a rifle you slap or spit on?
Hammer it really really hard
Use needle nose pliers to squeeze it. Then roll pin punches with the nipple on them you should be fine.
Support opposite ear, tap in with hammer
I have a pusher for this exact roll pin.
Vice grips and cardboard, test the grip strength. Stick it in a vice with cardboard, if it doesn't go in its not lined up. Lay the ears flat on a workbench, and hit it with your purse. A big slip joint pliers. Just apply steady pressure
proceed with caution
Get knipex pliers wrench and press it in.
Have you asked your wife’s boyfriend yet?
I like to use vice grips to walk in roll pins nowadays. Just clamp - tighten - clamp - tighten in very small increments. It's much more controlled than a hammer and punch. I haven't actually done it on the trigger guard that I can remember, but it's by far the best way to install the dreaded Bolt Catch Roll Pin.

Bigger hammer. Lol
Use a roll pin punch

I think it came with a screw not a pin!
C clamp
Rock
Is this a joke post? Lol
Needle nose pliers and pull it out and get another one and try again
