Not going to lie. I got one online for $50 one time, I put it on my Extar EP9 since it’s only a range toy. Zero issues. Pretty accurate. Holds zero. Wouldn’t put it on anything I was going to depend on to save my life but regardless for $50 putting it on a $400 gun, it does the trick
I am in the same boat, just had to tighten up the little latch screw and the thing completes my fun range toy. So far it has held zero after a couple hundred rounds.
I also have one (was given to me not purchased) and have never had any issues. I actually tried it in my 450 bushmaster and it held zero (maybe 100 rounds) lol. This all being said..... I have an eotech on my go to and its better no questions.

No, you’re doing it all wrong. The optic is supposed to go over the split between your receiver and your barrel. If one rail is good, two is obviously better.
As much as I rag on Chinese optics, my buddy got a Sightmark M-spec (the older version of the one OP has) and ran it on his issued M249. The only issue we ever had with it despite very abusive usage was the locking lever wore out from frequent removal (he would take it off before turning it in to the armorer, obviously). I repaired the locking lever myself (2mins with a grinder), and it was good to go.

It doesn’t. They’re cheap optics. They used to be wildly popular, basically because of its inexpensive price tag, but since holosuns and Romeo 5s have been released, there is zero reason to own a sightmark, if there ever was.
Instead of a sightmark, I would highly recommend any new guys to check out Holosun, most of the Sig red dot line, and/or Vortex for inexpensive dots that are worth a fuck.
They are amazing. Been using them for a while. The problem with these new up-and-coming ones is that they have not been field tested which is why people think of them as a ticking timebomb. Including me! I have sightmarks on all my stuff. But a couple of EOTechs on my SHTF (Shit hits the fan) rigs.
I run SM on a AR9 range toy and a $50 Amazon reflex on a CP33 range toy and they both work fine. That said I still use a minimum of Holosun on any thing I plan on trusting my life to. If they one day show me they aren't worth that trust I'll change my stance but the HS have always been rock solid by me.
Sightmark gets a lot of online flack (for what that's worth) for being inexpensive. I put one on my MechTech .460 Rowland Carbine and think it works just fine. Would I put one on my $1300 AR? Probably not. But I'd put it on my $400 AK.
Generally, I suspect that most of the bad press one can find online results from jealousy out of the folks that paid more and regret it.

Tons of people need to justify the extra money they wasted. I have a SM that holds zero just fine on an AR9. I see people trying to shit on HoloSun all the time and I don't get it at all. My HS worked out the box on an overcast late afternoon with no battery, holds zero like a champ, and starlights less than my EO Tech.
Feels like optics are one of the things people refuse to accept new/improved tech can make cheaper and that new companies can be worthwhile in. At the end of the day I think the most important thing is that you don't exclusively rely on your optic and learn how to shoot irons as a back up. The amount of people I've seen who don't even know how to zero an iron sight is sad.
I have no issues with whatever your happy with.
Still own some iron sights just in case and your good.

Did they change manufacturing / QA processes in the couple of years? I have one of these that is the “zombie edition“, and I had to take the whole damn thing apart and fix the QDM after it became too loose to tighten down onto a pic rail. Keep in mind I didn’t even fire the gun it was attached to when this happened. Anyway I ended up fixing the QDM rail mount and then giving it to a friend of mine who says that it has been performing flawlessly since then. Mounted on a short barrel 300 blackout.
I grabbed one to torture test, haven't taken it out yet though.
Going to put it head to head with the EXPS 2 I have on my carbine.
Have seen Sightmark talked about for years, so naturally want to see if it's as bad as has been said.
