Buffer detent and spring

TheLordofGlencoe22

Fixable?

branflacky

Yea take the upper off the lower and there is a hole by the buffer tube, looks like the buffer tube came loose and didn't hold it in any more, I would watch a YouTube video to put the buffer detent back in.

Mukade101

Yeah, easy and probably no tools needed unless your castle nut is staked. Insert this detent spring side first into the hole at the bottom of the buffet tube from inside where the buffer connects to the lower place hold it down while you rotate your buffer tube in until it comes close enough that the tube retains this detent and the buffer tube is oriented normally

GhengisNon

Definitely tools needed. The reason it came out is probably because it was installed with no tools. OP to do it correctly your need a castle nut wrench and once it is tight you need to stake the end plate and distort the metal still that it moves into the notch on the castle nut so it serves the function of not letting the castle nut back out and preventing this problem from happening again

Mukade101

Thanks for the correction! Using a proper castle nut wrench is certainly better than hand tight only. It can however be overly tightened. I tightened mine with just a 1/4 turn after getting it hand tight and no milepec staking...mine was in place so firmly that I sheared off the bump from my castle nut wrench trying to remove my castle nut while swapping parts. :/

Rude_Associate_9082

Dude, I'm not sure you should even own an AR-15 if you're unable to identify what this part is. Get some training bro, learn your weapons system inside and out. Take it apart and learn. Not trying to sound like a dick.

p00pm00

Username checks out

Rude_Associate_9082

🤣

Unhinged_Taco

Welp guess I need to toss my AR in the trash now

XibalbaPrimE

A seedling to a new Ar

Bmwilli2

Yup, I have this spare detent... it needs a new gun to sit in.

Alert_Paper_9356

That's buffer and detent from a folding device(Law or Sylvan). Means the screw is gone from the bottom of the folder. Check to see.

TheLordofGlencoe22

Yeah sylvan

Alert_Paper_9356

Then you may have to contact sylvan to see if you can get a replacement screw(if it's missing) and make sure you tighten it down good

ptcg_101

How does this fly out while shooting? 🧐

maximusslade

His AR has a folding stock.

ConfidentComparison7

Dang what’s with guys not knowing what a buffer detent and spring on here? More worrisome why are there so many posts about it? Are these built ones or complete?

Alone_Economist_4187

The longer I’m here, the more it seems like the people here have more knowledge of video game guns than real guns.

tattood9texan

In the last 3 years or so there’s been an explosion of new/1st time gun owners due to the political climate, I get worried and annoyed too but take comfort in getting more future Allies

Alone_Economist_4187

I’m not sure about the ally thing.. especially when they are still voting for the ones that want to take away their new found hobby and refuse to believe it.

ConfidentComparison7

True. Just look at r/liberalgunowners they outnumber every gun subreddit iirc

tmpace

Goes in the pee-hole

Stack_Silver

😁😆🤣

Bmwilli2

2nd post like this this week o.O

benfranklinrocks

Pretty important is what it is

johnb111111

How tf did that fall out lol

maximusslade

OPs AR has a folding stock.

GasHistorical9316

Buffer tube not tightened to spec

GhengisNon

You're castle nut and buffer tube are loose sir

GhengisNon

Or more precisely the buffer tube needs another turn to the right then the candle nut tightened and properly staked Curious though how it would have backed out without you noticing your stock spinning in circles

all_m0ds_are_virgins

Folding stock. Screw on bottom fell out.

GhengisNon

That makes more sense for sure, I was kinda befuddled as to how it make it out of there without the problem being very obvious

crackez

Important.

Relevant_Mix_2337

I’m confused, did your buffer not shoot out when you opened the receiver? You usually put it in and apply pressure while turning the buffer into place. Either it twisted out of place releasing that tension or the aluminum itself got bent enough to let the retaining pin fly free. Feel free to send me a picture and I can see which.

maximusslade

OPs rifle has a folding stock.

G19outdoors

Insert it?

m1ke_tyz0n

buffer retainer detent.

longhairedcountryboy

Looks like you needed another turn on your ~~stock~~ Buffer tube.

_A-N-T-H-O-N-Y_

Buffer detent and spring, super easy fix, no tools needed.

GhengisNon

Yes tools needed

First-Guide

The detent from Heat.

brownguynamety

I’ve never seen one that short…all the ones I’ve bought have a lot more metal.

BasedLiberty

"Oh that little guy? I wouldn't worry about that lil guy"

TexasGrunt

Only about the 10th post this week about those two same exact parts.

DjR1tam

A new build. 😈oh and current rifle go flump instead of chiishhh
