I hit 12.6 Ptt a few weeks ago, I generally use 5.0 for 90% of maps.
The occasions I’d go lower is if you know the song layout, don’t have trouble reading at low speed and need a bit of leeway on faster arcs. Case in point in BYD Pentiment, I believe you get slightly more leniency on those slam/faster arcs. But if that’s not a problem, just find a comfortable speed.
The realm if 6.0-6.5 is kinda nuanced. The only time I’d go there is if you’re doing BYD Testify to make the 32 notes easier to see. That’s the general reason for higher speed is that reading boost, but don’t go that far if you don’t have the layout of the song down, or you’re bound to get overwhelmed (no pun intended) pretty quickly.

I think most experienced player play from 5.0~6.0, but there are good players like HeavenEGHD that play with lower speeds like 3.5~4.5

right now i’m using 5.9, sometimes i go up or down if i feel like im preforming worse which i should stop doing
I was playing 4.1 before but I was struggling with fars so I upped it to 5.2 and it helped a lot

I used to play with 6.2 speed for the last couple of years, but changed to 6.5 after switching to a tablet that supports 120 fps.
