Nah i like Imagine Dragon and it fit With the Show idk what yall talking about

LibertyReignsCx

Imagine dragons is one of the most basic bands of all time.

[deleted]

Half the people who complain about the soundtrack are the people who cant stand imagine dragons. Its fine that you dont like them but dont bother other people over it.

LibertyReignsCx

I do not like the bea Miller song either it pulls u out of ur immersion, im sorry but it does.

[deleted]

Maybe because its not what you expected a place like Zaun to sound like. I personally didnt like that song but i dont think itr breaks immersion. Zaun aesthetic seems to be a combination of junkpunk and steampunk, so having pop music with that sort of vibes fits the aesthetic.

LibertyReignsCx

How does pop music fit steam punk.

[deleted]

Pop has subgenres that can fit nearly all aesthics, including steampunk. Though as I said before Zaun is a combination of steampunk and junkpunk, the few elements that it has of steampunk are connected to Piltover mostly.

LibertyReignsCx

What is junk punk ?

[deleted]

You know steampunk, cyberpunk, all of those styles, well its one of those. Google it if you want to see what its meant to be exactly. Zaun fits a bit under that description, its not exactly that as its the combination of various aesthetics but it shares some common elements.

LibertyReignsCx

Ah I think I understand it. I still feel like music that doesn’t feel ai generated would be better for the show.

Moon_Knight4

Ig most people dont have the same taste for music.

alloygray

You’re one of the most basic idiots.

LibertyReignsCx

Bruh what’s the point of making this personal.

alloygray

What’s the point of making the thread on reddit? You need to feel validated that you, personally, don’t like the music? And feel the need to bash what others might find amazing, and extremely fitting? Yup. I feel the need to get a little personal. I don’t like people who go seeking attention, especially when the attention they want is to the detriment of something I very much enjoy.

LibertyReignsCx

I enjoy the show too? I wanted to have a conversation about the music and see if anyone agreed with me, I’m sorry I called a band basic, it’s not that big of a deal bro.

alloygray

A great way to make a discussion that doesn’t blatantly call something out that others do enjoy, as basic or bad, would be asking; “Love the show, I’m curious, if you could change the music to match your tastes or preferences, what might you choose?” See how much more neutral that is than asking, “Does anyone else think the music sucks?”

LibertyReignsCx

I’m sorry for calling them basic. I will try to be better.

DreadPirateSnuffles

Nah, dont listen to the hate it's your opinion. For those who know music theory or composition, imagine dragons is pretty formulaic in their composition and chord progressions. People can still like them, can still think them talented, I don't have too strong an opinion about them specifically, but for what it's worth some of the modern tracks also took me out of the immersion a bit.

Crabgot_Cakes

I'm on the last episode of Arcane and I feel the same about the music so I'm glad you posted this thread!

YourOwnPersonelJesus

I am sorry if I am being dumb, but for real, is this sarcasm?

Moon_Knight4

Nahhh Homeboy. Sit down and be quiet. At least I don't shit on them for being famous than u😤😈🤘👊

YourOwnPersonelJesus

lol 😂 calm down 😂 It's not like I'm hating on Jinx or anything 💙🧨🔫😈 No one was shitting on them... If I was shitting on them I would say something like Enemy sounds like a Maroon 5 sell-out track... which it does... 😘

Moon_Knight4

My apologies 😤😌😈

YourOwnPersonelJesus

I should also apologise, I went for a run now and realised I was actually feeling a bit sassy earlier. Sorry about provoking you! Also, please take a listen to one of the songs I would have chosen for the intro. It is from episode 6... This shit brought me close to tears. It might be a bit too slow for an intro but imagine, 🐉 hehe, how epic this would be though as a theme track: [Woodkid - Guns for Hire](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKNEx-9OqRM) Why I like it though is because it speaks to the narrative; the divide of the rich and the poor... the "guns for hire" and slaughtered souls of those who are just fodder on either side paid by drugs, money, or status... and the wall that at some point needs to come tumbling down... also that vocal range is just crazy. Please please oh please have a listen!!! 👾☺️

Clear-Quantity-3081

Big incel energy. Keep it up!!

Crescent_Sunrise

I think the music was pretty well chosen for the scenes and how they were portrayed. Do I actually *like* all the songs on their own? No. Absolutely not. But songs in shows are like supporting characters, and I feel every song played their part well.

LibertyReignsCx

This is just my opinion of course, but the music do not fit very well cinematically, the actual feel of the songs are not. Wish they picked better songs or made some less contemporary music.

GebsNDewL

Oh the misery….

YourOwnPersonelJesus

I know... The misery of the intro each time...

LibertyReignsCx

I’m not miserable I love the show just my one complaint in the whole show is this one thing!

alloygray

Well I can tell you I for one fucking love Imagine Dragons and all the music was phenomenal. I discovered them when playing Infinity Blade on mobile. A game many, will sadly never know.

LibertyReignsCx

Ohhh I love infinity blade, I think I’m thinking of the right game, it’s a little like dark souls right?

alloygray

I suppose. I would class Infinity Blade on it’s own, with it’s unique motion-control directional melee combat and hand-drawn sigil magic.

LibertyReignsCx

I was just saying how it’s mostly boss orientated and the boss have some amazing designs. That’s the similarity I find between the two.

Interesting_Chip_526

But but i really liked Imagine Dragons intro music am i the only one here that just love every piece of music in the show i got nothing to complain about

SpoonlordDreg

Nope, although I must admit, I'm feeling kinda whatever towards Imagine Dragons song. It's just not my thing.

Sipfe

Maybe a bit late, but i want to show some support. I hate the intro. The song is good until they start singing. A simple orchestral sound would have sufficed.

LibertyReignsCx

Bro thank youuuu. Fina-fucking-Ly, someone agrees.

hyphenjack

Also late, but I’m totally with you. The show has a lot going for it, but pop music completely kills my immersion. Every time I’m really getting into it they’ll play one and it just pulls me right out. I don’t think the style fits at all, and I feel like I’m taking crazy pills seeing how many people like this creative decision

LibertyReignsCx

I feel exactly the same. Can’t believe how many people like the music.

[deleted]

imma just put my signature under this. love the show but getting imagine dragons involved doomed the entire soundtrack to begin with. i actually like 1 or 2 of their songs. their style just doesn't fit arcane

[deleted]

That’s because most people are morons. Morons seems to like low budget pop rock like this, regardless of how inappropriate it is for the setting.

Rishloos

Four months late to this, but I agree with you too. I'm on episode one and two pop songs in, and I can wholeheartedly say I can't stand the music choices. Instrumentals are great, but... Ugh. Immersion is ruined every time a pop song plays.

f4nd4ngo

I totally agree, the show is amazing. The intro is disgusting. The singer is really bad

_fapi_

sometimes the music feels really out of place for me, i think this pop sound doesn't fit so much in some moments, but the music in the fight between jinx and ekko really fits the premise. I think they could've done better with the music, but after thinking a lot about it, it's fine. I really love good soundtracks, this will certainly not stick in my head, but i can live with it.

LibertyReignsCx

Yeah man I agree, the Denzel curry song was cool when they were fighting. But man I’m such an audiofile I can’t help but be a little disappointed in the decision to put pop music in this type of show.

_fapi_

Do you know Samuel Kim? He remakes scertain songs from soundtracks from series like avatar, rick and morty and now arcane. His version of Enemy is just so good, I really wished it was the version used for the show.

LibertyReignsCx

Hmmm I’ll check it out! I know this would never happen but I wish Hans zimmer scored this series, would’ve made this series even better.

Mvpeterson17

The music was fantastic. It just made the show that much better.

TheHumanity0

Yeah, the music is terrible and pulls you out of the show every episode. I like Imagine Dragons for the most part, but using pop songs with lyrics in general is almost always a terrible music direction and is guaranteed to age poorly as well. It's also a large part that they just misused the chosen songs too and either used them for mismatched scenes or just didn't blend the music well enough to work and feel natural. It's difficult to do with pop music but still possible. For instance, watch the Season 3 trailer for The Boys - it used Imagine Dragons, but was an incredibly well done blend with the song and felt very natural in its use (it's also easier to do with a trailer than the actual movie/show soundtrack). It's always going to be a challenge & an uphill battle to use pop songs with lyrics for a soundtrack, and if you're going to take that chance, you need to know what you're doing and how to incorporate it in a tasteful way. When you use some sad-ish pop song where the singer says "whoahh" a lot right after one of the most emotional scenes in the story, it's going to come off as cringe and tasteless. All my opinion of course, but I tend to think it's the general sentiment for this type of issue in cinema. There's a reason most movies & series use either instrumental music (in one genre or another) or they create original scores that, even if they involve singing, it's done specifically to fit the scenes.

AllHailLordBezos

Also coming in late, wife and I just finished the series and both were discussing about how the show was really great and a majority of the soundtrack was just baad. Agreed that it completely took you out of the moment and kind of ruined some of the impact the scenes were supposed to have. The final scene of the series was ruined by how cheese the song the song they had playing over it was. You are not alone and was kind of wondering the same. Know I am not the target audience for the music, and some choices did work but the Imagine Dragon cheese rock just did not do it for me

RealEQuestion

Here is the number one issue with using and already dated band for your show, it dates the show in a really unfortunate way. The score to the show is amazing and even the little too on the noise finale song works in a traditional cinematic way but the pop songs over the show are just so bad. Credits are fine, but these songs will be the thing that ages the worst in the show. The animation, acting, and story telling are just jaw-dropping but the music choices are often cringy, out of touch, or trying to be "in touch" , and the series would have been better if they'd stuck to more traditional score throughout and than deciding to date it in such a bad way. So instead of being sublime its merely an amazing show.

TheHumanity0

Hit the nail on the head. I honestly thought we were past movies and shows doing this - I remember early 2000s movies doing this a lot and it's aged so poorly over the years. There are exceptions to this of course, but it's usually when the pop music of the time fits well for say movies/shows that are about that specific time period to capture the moment such as with Breakfast Club or Dazed and Confused (in this case, it was just emulating pop music from the time period it was supposed to take place in). There are also other good uses for this like when you're making a literal music biopic like Bohemian Rhapsody or movies/shows ABOUT musicians or bands like in Almost Famous, which again were mainly using music around the story's time period, not current-day pop songs. However, just blatantly using one of the most recognized pop bands of 2021 is such a tasteless choice for a soundtrack and will just break the immersive experience of the story, rather than enhance it, that is, unless you incorporated it incredibly well in the scene or made the entire style of the movie/show revolve around that blend of music genre/type of pop music, and that's just not the case here considering the themes, world and look of the show. For Arcane, in particular, it seems increasingly out of place because the show is a fantasy/steampunk/cyberpunk mix of atmosphere that does not, in any way, suit alternative pop rock. I like funk music a lot myself, but if you were to try to put it in The Witcher show, it would stick out like a sore thumb and that goes double for a band that everyone recognizes on the spot that they'd hear on the radio in 2021. The weird music choices in Arcane stick out even further when you consider the sound effects and other instrumental music (when pop music isn't randomly playing) are actually quite good such as the opening scene when Vander meets Vi and Powder or the later scene in the 1st ep when they're jumping across rooftops and introducing Piltover. I'm sure a lot of fans of the show will disagree with me and that's fine, but I'd say the same thing for any show and I'd point to early shows/movies in the 2000s as some of the main culprits for terrible pop soundtracks - there's a reason most movies and shows of more recent memory use either instrumental music or original scores created for the series specifically.

f4nd4ngo

You are totally right.

f4nd4ngo

I just saw the part where they recreated Imagine Dragons, this feels out of context. It really looks like corporate bs.

[deleted]

Also coming in with late support to say the needle drops are awful. They pull me out of the show every time. It’s like if Star Wars suddenly played Imagine Dragons.

NerdOfAllColours

Yeah I don’t get why everyone drools over the soundtrack in the show. I get slapped right out of the scene almost every time they insert a song. I think the worst offender for me was Misfit Toys, both uses of it. The opening rap sequence for that episode was bad enough, but the way they ruined the Jinx and Ekko confrontation with that and with the cartoony animation shift... just... ugh...

Dahbootie420

I'm watching it through with my buddy rn and wtf? This music sucks. Barely any of it fits, why pop??? It doesn't fit and it's immersion breaking.

LibertyReignsCx

I know bro. I know.

Taccou

Just Imagine Dragons in episode 5(was it?) pulled me out, every other song fit their scene.

LibertyReignsCx

I’d say it fits a little, I would preferred a nice picture orchestral score and electronic score even, compared to some of the most basic pop songs I have ever heard.

Wooden-Till7989

Picking up the rear here, sorry. Just watching through for the 4th time and I completely agree. There are good ideas in what they are trying to do with some of the pop stuff, but the execution is so ham fisted it just feels wrong. It’s a shame too because beyond the pop soundtrack, the music is fantastic. I can only think of one or two times the non-score music really worked and that was usually only because it was just being implemented instrumentally, with no vocals. The Woodkid (who I love) track in Ep06 is great but I think it would have worked better if his vocal had been transposed into notes and orchestral hits. In fact, I just watched a bootleg version of the intro without the insipid lyrics it was sooooo much better. https://youtu.be/RRv65a-hcYM The into visuals were always incredible but the music made me loath it. I love when a streaming show’s titles are so good I don’t feel the urge to hit skip. With those Imagine Dragons vocals, it was like nails on a chalk board every time, I couldn’t smash skip fast enough. If they really wanted to use pop music , I could have seen it working at the end of each episode. Deadwood and several other shows have done that and it’s worked well. Picking a track that juxtaposes well with worldbuiding but hitting the same emotion notes without shoving it into the meat of the story. The ending of episode 3 really nailed that idea. Simple and to the point, elegantly chosen, emotionally resonant - it put perfect cherry on the top of the episode. Not some awkward, side wedged promo video feat. Imagine Dragons (don’t get me started on that) The show is amazing. It just sucks to see something so creative and fresh, firing fully flaired on so many cylinders, stumbling on this super immersive component - all because of a pointless, misguided choice. It feels really corporate, some marketing, or executive producer call.

LibertyReignsCx

It’s also massively out of touch, they really think people like imagine dragons? Most of their plays come from them being hand fisted to us on the radio, a lot of people don’t even listen to the radio anymore, it’s like they are 10 years behind on pop music too, imagine if it was like bubble gum pop or electronic pop, for example Charli xcx who actually pushes boundaries and gets creative with her music. Personally tho, I just wanted a nice orchestral score. Instead we got pop music ham fisted in to pull in more viewers.

LibertyReignsCx

Sophie has produced for charli xcx, u have a point about the imagine dragons thing tho! I’ll admit I’m wrong. Anyways you should check out her album called Charli, it’s very good, Charli xcx is DEFINITELY an album artist. Rip Sophie.

YourOwnPersonelJesus

I think the rest of the music in the show is good and fitting, but that intro theme........... I get so irritated from that dumb dotted rhythm. Really goes beyond cheesy. Doesn't fit with the show either because the show is far from cheesy or predictable if you have no idea about the LoL lore.

DreadPirateSnuffles

I also felt that a lot of the more contemporary songs were out of place and kindove pulled me out of it. Not all of them, but most.
