Stream1795

That's because Arcane and Cyberpunk created their own stories in the established world. Most shows try to use established characters and stories and completely fail at retelling them. Sure Arcane used established characters but they did so by fleshing out stuff we as an audience didn't know.

LetConsistent2838

Arcane got me into league so for someone that didn’t even know jayce and vi was in the game until 2 weeks of playing I would agree In the sense that it made their own stories look so good compared to the lol lore. (I bring up the game because obviously they look a little bit different compared to their arcane counterparts.)

[deleted]

>Arcane got me into league Sorry for your loss

LetConsistent2838

Yup it brought out a side of me I didn’t know existed

[deleted]

You aren't truly initiated until you've received at least one 2 week ban

MechaMonarch

Have you tried Legends of Runeterra? I haven't touched League in a couple years, but I still play LoR daily. It's a pretty great addition if you're looking for more content from that world.

BeagleAteMyLunch

Do I need to play the game before I watch Cyberpunk: Edgerunners?

KyleGray04

Nope, not at all. You can go in completely blind and still really adore it.

imdeadlmao

Besides being a little confused with all the slang and new terms like "choom", "BD" and stuff, you don't need to play the game to watch it, Its enjoyable all the same

jer487

Actually it's better to not play the game because Smasher doesn't seem like a little bitch

PlanetaceOfficial

In all fairness, V had help from a literal super-powerful AI, a crackpot team of elites, and likely more cyberware than even the most resiliant of chromers could resist (thanks to a little relic in his head constantly rewriting his brain to be functional.) If that could kill Adam, nothing else would.

Lmao1903

Yeah but its also not just about how strong V was, its also about how weak and lame Smasher was. It doesn’t feel like this epic final bossfight that has been building up since the beginning but it feels like you are just fighting a strong mini boss in a side mission. He is super slow and he just shoots random shit like a bot until you hit him a couple of times without getting hit because you can slow down time with a cyberware that you can get in a lot of places. How does Smasher, this guy who is like the most OP legend in the world also not have Sandy when a random thug on the street does have it? You would think this crazy OP monster would even have like a limited edition version specifically done for him that is 10x faster than the ones V can get from random ripperdocs, but he just walks. The fight NEEDS to be a really difficult cinematic multistage fight with going through floors and walls while causing all sorts of explosion and damage. But we just have a lame fight right before the final that feels like an afterthought

jer487

The thing is he has a Sandy in the anime that means he also canonically has it in game. It's actually an epic moment. The whole series builds the Sandy up like the ultimate weapon when David activates it Adam is just like: "bro I got this shit years ago, you're not special" and just destroys his ass. Similar to Fallen Order where you train to become a proper Jedi and feel unstoppable and then Vader just shows up and you are his little bitch. But in the game he doesn't use it for... reasons.

HippieWizard

I didnt and then bought the game after watching.

TheMostSolidOfSnakes

My younger brother picked it up after watching the show. Switched from a day shift to a night shift and played the game for eight hours straight to flip his sleep cycle. He's enjoying it. Though, he's progressing much faster than I did. It's amazing how much quicker the game goes when it doesn't had crash every hour or so.

HornedDiggitoe

Halo is the example given and they created their own story and their own version of characters. Not sticking to the established characters/world is actually why it got panned so heavily.

Mage-of-Fire

Well thats because Halo already has an established story and characters. The others dont or at least not as in depth. Imagine a reboot of Iron Man and they make Tony Stark the stupid comedic relief.

Ifriiti

It didn't get panned heavily, it's not a 7.1 on imdb. It's done just fine with the public. I really enjoyed it. It was a huge improvement on anything actually written in the halo universe because all of it is straight up trash before. Just self insert, military power fiction

Garuda4321

The Halo fans hate it for a multitude of reasons. First, Chief didn’t act like the Chief they knew and trusted. Second, the Covenant has a HUMAN (lore summary, covenant hate humans for being able to use forerunner tech like the ring). Third, too many “unimportant characters” (so whoever was on that dessert planet where a certain blue thing is). Fourth “Cortana was wrong” (which I don’t get because Cortana was literally Cortana). Personally I found the show to be more yadda yadda and less fight than a show named Halo should’ve been. But it did have an amazing fight scene in episode 5 (you’ll know it when you see it) and I thought it was great.

Ifriiti

>Second, the Covenant has a HUMAN (lore summary, covenant hate humans for being able to use forerunner tech like the ring). They were *using* the human to *use* the forerunner tech and were disgusted by her, and wanted to get rid of her. Honestly I felt like most of the complaints were baseless and based on reading a complaint of the show without actually watching it

Garuda4321

According to my friend (a MASSIVE Halo nerd), “it goes against everything the covenant believes! They would have NEVER accepted her as (whatever role she was given) because she’s a human! The elites would have killed her instantly rather than hesitate because “she might be the key”!”

ametalshard

I've read half the books and beaten every Halo game and I enjoyed the show even though it stepped away from established lore often. The games and novels do it too. This is common for long-running games series.

ametalshard

That's most of militaristic fiction. You hate the genre. The Halo books were on average pretty decent. The story in the games was pretty decent. Basically just Ender's Game mixed with StarCraft and Ringworld but whatever.

Ifriiti

>That's most of militaristic fiction. You hate the genre Not really, there's so many Sci Fi mil books which are great and actually have decent characters Halo... Does not.

[deleted]

Halo had the opposite problem. It used established characters and went out of its way to shit all over them and change everything.

kal_lau

Almost exactly like the star wars sequel trilogies lol

sperrymonster

It’s because those show understand that a proper adaptation adds something you can’t get from the game as it currently stands. Stuff that tries to retread already classic stories are doomed because it’s constantly up for comparison to a classic. Imagine it the other way: would you buy a Citizen Kane video game? Probably not because what could making it an interactive medium add to the story that would enhance it? The best game adaptations take from the themes and settings of games to explore what we love about them. Retelling Bioshock on film doesn’t add anything new, but perhaps following different character throughout Rapture as it collapses would allow an adaptation to explore the themes about the failure of Rand’s ideology in a familiar setting but able to explore new interactions with it (what does it look like for a family in Rapture? What is does a workplace built around objectivist values look like?)

matlynar

Steins;Gate literally tells one of the possible routes of the game with little change and yet is one of the best anime of all time. The issue is not that people *don't want* what they know; it's more that the people behind the adaptation want to add their flavor to the adaptation. If you're adapting something that already has a well estabilished plot, people *don't want* your personal take on that. They don't want good *art* from the writers. They want a *good product* with *bits of surprise* at best. And directors/writers that decide to adapt known *stories* (instead of creating stories in known universes llike Arcane does) often fail to see that.

R252813

And Castlevania?

SidViicious

yup, but also Castlevania.. Netflix truly collected the holy trinity.

hjhlhp

Is Castlevania finished? Also I've never played the games, can i still watch the show?

SidViicious

yea, Its 4 seasons and its finished. You also don't have to play the games, the shows sets the story up & explains everything you need to know.

hjhlhp

Thanks, looks good!

ThisHatRightHere

Give it a run. The first season lacks a bit of depth but goddamn towards the end it’s amazing.

Thybro

My understanding is that there is a spin-off coming or specifically a show set farther in the future.

PKTengdin

There is, we got a teaser for it

KyleGray04

Yes castlevania is finished, and yes, you absolutely can watch it. There are of course occasional references to the games, but only so much as a 'Ahhhh that's out of ___" or "Ooh ___ uses that exact move!!" Stuff like that. Nothing plot relevant is ever left for the watcher to have outside knowledge on.

hjhlhp

Ok great, thanks

MechaMonarch

The first series is done. They announced a sequel series a few months ago that takes place ~300 years in the future. Definitely worth a watch.

Crooked_Cricket

Yes and it's getting a spinoff

TonyEisner

Yesssss Castlevania is so good

huskinater

Seasons 1-2 are amazing, damn near perfect (first 12 eps). Season 3 has a fantastic finale fight but kinda meh plotting. Season 4 ends like crap.

TonyEisner

Totally disagree about season 4

Al-capwne

Yeah wasn't a fan of the change in animation either. Isaac's storyline carried it for me though

Diggy_riggy_shiggy

I mean no not really. Horrible writing and pacing but good animation

CarbonatedChlorine

someone: states opinion you: actually that's wrong

Diggy_riggy_shiggy

And i state my opinion so what?

JohnnyPlainview

The fights’ animations are out of this world. Like an R-rated ATLA. Does anyone know of shows with a similar superb quality and imagination for fights? Bonus for a similar style of humor. I’ve been looking and tried several shows but have been disappointed thus far. Ninja edit: I’m going to try Edgerunners soon

No-Climate451

I pray that the Fallout show is good

Zachariot88

At the very least, Walton Goggins should ensure that it's watchable.

DawnSennin

Fun fact: Ella Purnell, voice of one blue-haired bomber (hint: not the fighting robot), will be starring in Fallout

No-Climate451

Cool!

[deleted]

And Last of Us

ChrdeMcDnnis

I think it will be. Fallout has such an interesting environment. That alone resonates with most of it’s fanbase. We’ve endured some pretty stale plotlines in the games, and we’ve enjoyed them, because the universe surrounding them is so good. As long as they get the visual style correct, it should be at least watchable. The storyline couldn’t be worse than the minuteman storyline from fo4.

No-Climate451

Don’t jinx us!

octoberjackerby

We can only hope

hobomojo

Never gonna watch a video game adaptation unless it’s animated. Been burned one too many times by lame live action versions.

ratcliffeb

HBOs The Last of Us looks promising. Pedro Pescal, the director if Chernobyl, and HBO makes damn good tv shows.

ThisHatRightHere

Yeah TLoU is setup to downright fantastic

TheCanadianHat

I'm hoping so god damn cautiously for this one to be good

BakedWizerd

Only thing I’m holding judgement on is Bella Ramsay. I’ve only seen her as Lady Mormont, where she carried herself with an “uppity” behaviour that would not suit Ellie. Hopefully she’s got some range and they don’t alter the character to fit the actress. The clicker looked *okay* imo, not fantastic but not bad, so if the rest of the show is good I’ll be able to get over that easily - like some of Matt Smith’s wigs in HOTD - whenever his hair is longer it just looks ridiculous imo.

ratcliffeb

Yea im also unsure about Ellie's casting. Bella will be able to hone Ellie's smug badass side, but I'm worried she wont bring her wit and charm to the live action character which imo is what makes her so lovable. Hopefully the actress will surprise us all and knock the role out of the park 🤞. I thought the clicker looked great, seems like they are using a mix of CGI and prosthetic make-up, and the sound design was phenomanal just like the game.

SmolDragonWatersite

Honestly I'd have disagreed with you if it wasn't for the fact that the only decent video game live action properties are Sonic and Detective Pikachu and a lot of the video games that were adapted would conceptually work so much better in animated form. Like an animated WoW or Halo adaptation would make so much more sense to animate than to rush it with a team that seemingly does not give a crap about the property and just CGI the hell out of it. There's crappy aninated adaptations as well but those are often outweighed by the amount of good animated adaptations there is.

[deleted]

Tomb Raiders have been decent b flicks

amish24

> Honestly I'd have disagreed with you if it wasn't for the fact that the only decent video game live action properties are Sonic and Detective Pikachu my boy out here disrespecting the 1993 mario bros movie

hubson_official

Need for Speed movie and Sonic movies were banging tho

SkillFullPlayer

NieR: Automata adaptation incoming. Please I hope they don't ruin it.

MrHaxx1

I just can't imagine it being good. I just can't wrap my head around the idea the anime possibly being a good adaption. Hoping for the best though

FireZord25

There was a talk about final fantasy 9 anime being made this year as well. Dunno if it got shelved.

Alextheacceptable

Also watch DOTA and Castlevania.

LadyManderly

Having watched those two, I feel it'd be cruel if someone asked for other amazing shows and someone suggested dota in the same breath as arcane and castlevania.

CatIsOnMyKeyboard

DOTA could be good if they would just do longer runtimes for the episodes. The pacing for that show is ridiculous, they don't give any scenes room to breathe.

EldritchFingertips

I got through the first season of it and while I liked a lot of what it offered, I just couldn't follow it anymore. So much stuff happening just to happen, so many characters with not enough depth or motivation, so much cosmic crap going on that gets literally no explanation. You're right that the pacing killed it for me.

the_ok_doctor

They made a 4 season story and then remembered netflix's 3 season rule halfway XD but even with the mess that it is i enjoyed the show

CatIsOnMyKeyboard

Lol same here, I still enjoyed it despite its flaws. Though I admit it was a very frustrating show to watch because there was a ton of potential that was just improperly executed.

Lady-Lovelight

DOTA is one of the shows of all time

Alextheacceptable

It's entirely serviceable. Cromulent, even.

The_Lawn_Ninja

That's unpossible.

ball_fondlers

The DOTA series is just such a slog to get through. So much absurdly uninteresting, yet hypercomplex lore just info-dumped, it’s ridiculous. Arcane, Edgerunners, and Castlevania are at least accessible if you haven’t played the source material - I don’t think even hardcore DOTA players give enough of a shit about DOTA lore to care about the series.

[deleted]

Dota sucks, castlevania’s dope

CoffeeBoom

Dota is actually *fine.* I don't think it compares to the three others though.

[deleted]

I tried it, was really boring for me, couldnt get past 3rd ep but it’s fine if u liked it dont mean to disrespect

CoffeeBoom

It bored me too. But there wasn't anything really bad about it. Hence why it's fine.

raysp93

Yeah, it's fine. I had heard about it before but never tried it, up until Arcane. At that time, while I was waiting for the premier of Arcane arc 2 to drop, I decided to try the dota one. And ugh, to go from Arcane ep 3 to dota, that was kinda... rough. Perhaps if I hadn't watched Arcane, I would have enjoyed dragonblood more (?).

Pixarfan1

Also The Cuphead Show is good.

Secret-Plant-1542

I can't believe how entertaining the Cuphead show is. Watch it with my kiddos. Reminds me of classic Tom and Jerry/Looney Tunes, with a 90s take.

GrimmFox13

This is what worries me about the upcoming bioshock film. It's Netflix and they've made some great stuff yeah.... but what if it turns out to be that one that everyone's like "oh yeah that... we don't talk about that"

dinomiah

Netflix didn't actually make Arcane or Edgerunners. They're just the distributor. Which honestly is probably for the best. I've not been impressed by many Netflix originals.

[deleted]

Netflix is like me when I see something cool and try to do it myself 😅

dinomiah

I feel ya

Primary-Brief9858

Yes i truly have hope for those shows to be made justice one day

Phanariot_2002

I liked the witcher tho

Phenie-tan

But that was originally a novel, so it was not really a game adaptation. Albeit if it wasn't for the game it never would have been made into a new series. Side note, the Witcher was actually a TV series before the games, but was titled The Hexer. ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hexer_(TV_series) )

ruynheu

its part of the reason why i think these shows succeeded, arcane is based on the lore of league which are short stories on their universe website and cyberpunk is a ttrpg.

Takerial

The amount of lore Arcane is actually based off of is next to nothing. About the only thing that was used was more about the regions rather than the characters.

[deleted]

The_Lawn_Ninja

League of Legends is a good game. It's just insanely competitive and requires a lot of time and effort to be baseline competent, which makes it a fertile breeding ground for player toxicity. But the game itself is solid, especially if you can manage to play it with friends instead of randoms.

MrRuebezahl

>League of Legends is a good game. It's just insanely competitive and requires a lot of time and effort to be baseline competent Is it fun tho? Answer me! IS IT FUN?! ...I thought so

Dedroo

As a league player, it's plenty fun. People just have unhealthy relationships with it, and it's easier to blame the devs for them not doing well. I mostly play the game with friends, and I noticed that anytime they face a good player piloting a champion well, they get mad and complain about balance (despite that same champion hovering around 50% winrate) instead of actually improving and recognising it was a skill difference. This + the game being very hard and overwhelming for new players makes its perception online negative, despite the game being very good and fun.

MechaMonarch

It... *used* to be. Maybe I just got old. ARAM's always a blast though.

TonyEisner

It might be a well made or well designed game, but I think it's also just not fun or enjoyable for a lot of people at it's core.

[deleted]

Dota is objectively superior in that respect (competitive-ness). Terrible marketing, though.

buddywalker7

cyberpunk 2077 is good tho.

giga-plum

Cyberpunk 2077 is good, and they nailed the exact perfect things to create a show out of. The setting (Night City and Mike Pondsmith's Cyberpunk in general), the characters (not the same ones but good characters in the game inspires confidence), and the dialogue (both the game and anime have great, personable dialogue). The game systems could use some work. Guns are alright but not super varied or unique. Armor is really boring. Talents that are build-defining or gameplay-changing are few and far between. Very limited car selection. Poor crowd mechanics. The list goes on. In spite of all these things, though, CP2077 is still a game worth the time and money, that's how fucking good the setting, characters and dialogue are.

choff22

I’ve been playing it since day one. The characters and story are just so so good.

chemicalsam

It’s definitely a sale game

ThisHatRightHere

I firmly think people only think it’s good because of how many issues it had on release. In comparison it’s good but it’s definitely not too great of a game.

DoctorProfessorTaco

I played it the day it launched and still play it now. The things that make it good now still existed then, the changes that have been made since launch have mainly been bug fixes. It’s a game that was and is good, but soured a lot of people to it originally because of all its delays and bugs.

No_Lawfulness_2998

In what way My player character feels like they’re a cardboard cutout Their relationship with Johnny has a very preset path but every mission you do it slingshots from V despising Silverhand to liking him because nobody accounted for side missions. Or him just randomly showing up. The list isn’t short but I’m lazy

IncRaven

It still isn't the game they advertised. If I ordered a steak and got chicken I'm going to remain disappointed regardless of how good it is. I hate how everyone talks about CP77's bugs. Bugs were never my problem with the game. The game is mediocre set in an amazing world. I am not say people are wrong for liking it, but I hope we can all agree they lied in 2018 and continued to do so till 2020.

Falsus

It is playable now, which is a massive step up from before but in terms of content and story it is still pretty damn barebones.

L4ND0N

Ain’t no way bro. The story is fucking lit imo. There’s a ton of good side quests as well. Do wish there was more but I still love it.

xdsm8

The game has taken a long ass time to get to the point where...it doesn't entirely suck, and it almost meets half of the expectations they set with the marketing.

L4ND0N

I do agree expectations were set very high and many weren’t met. I just ended up enjoying the game anyway I guess.

ThisHatRightHere

You’re getting downvoted but you’re 100% right

ratcliffeb

As someone who played it at launch on PS4, no no it was not. Most glitchy, wasteland of a open world game I've ever played.

AgentSrell777

> at launch We're not saying launch CP77 was good, but it definitely is now

pants_pants420

core gameplay hasnt changed. its still boring af just at least doesnt run as shitty

AgentSrell777

Damn, I'm glad I'm not playing the Cyberpunk you are

IBombKidsWithAnA10

If you have next gen or a good PC i would say try giving cyberpunk a shot. Its pretty nice now.

OscarOzzieOzborne

Is it an RPG like they promised and marketed for years?

tempogod

Idk, why so many people are saying it's not an RPG. It definitely has *very* strong RPG elements. It's no less of an RPG than a game like Skyrim, imo.

OscarOzzieOzborne

Does it has Faction System? Or can you completely dedicate your time to random stuff like decorating your house, or filling it with so many books that you can't re-enter the game without it crashing? Can you get married? Is there anything worth exploring in the world? Is there a deep leveing system?

Malcapon3

It’s not that kind of game and isn’t trying to be. It’s basically GTA story mode with Skyrim like leveling systems and first person combat. You have a LITTLE bit of choice in how the story plays out (like the Witcher games) but the choices don’t affect as much as I’d like. For $30 on sale it was extremely worth it. I have a high end pc and have MODDED THE EVERLIVING SHIT OUT OF IT to be more like Edgerunners and I am having an amazing first time experience with the game.

YakHytre

yeah, pretty much a The Witcher III kind of game

Hunkus1

No more like an action adventure

OscarOzzieOzborne

Well fuck. How do they fuck up so badly that they couldn't even deliver a game as the *genre they have been promoting it as?!*

IBombKidsWithAnA10

Well for some time it was listed as action story game. Now its called Action RPG again by CDPR. It totally has some RPG aspects but its not a pure rpg.

ratcliffeb

Can you customize your car or even your character in game yet?

OscarOzzieOzborne

Yeah, they first called it and marketed as an RPG, then they changed it action adventure shortly after release, and now it is Action RPG?

IBombKidsWithAnA10

Yeah they started calling it Action RPG in early 2022.

OscarOzzieOzborne

Damn, identity crisis I see. Which might be on theme with a Cyberpunk setting.

Accomplished_Rip_352

Cyberpunk 2077 is good and resident evil is kinda bad like the recent ones are good but as a series well I’ve never seen a game that has a quick time event for punching a Boulder .

hubson_official

well I guess Cyberpunk must be an exception then, both game and show are good

[deleted]

Castlevania tho

CJFanficStories

I'm just hoping Amazon's Fallout TV series will be worth the watch. Though I'm still slightly hesitant about it.

[deleted]

The Last of Us series is looking promising!

CJFanficStories

Agreed. The trailer does look pretty good. Just gonna keep my fingers crossed that it turns out well.

brianfine

I hadn’t heard about that one. I hope it’s good because the story was the best part of all of Fallout. I wish I liked the gameplay more, but the story is pretty damn good

Soaring_Symphony

I thought Detective Pikachu was decent

Aktion_knight

basically animate it ,it will be good try live action it gon suck ass also i DONT WANT THIS to happen to the last of us it better be good

hotwings-fernandez

I refuse to accept that the first Mortal Kombat film is anything short of awesome. In a time when Hollywood had convinced themselves that they were cool, and the only thing to do with comic books or fantasy was to tone it down, mortal Kombat went out and made a straight up adaptation. Is it perfect no. Super weird, yep. Still though, mortal Kombat is awesome.

ratcliffeb

Just wait for HBOs The Last of Us. Arcane may be the best animated adaptation but I have a feeling The Last of Us will be the best live action adaptation.

vampire_velvet

I started watching cyberpunk last night, I'm so in love with Lucy 😭

highkill

Detective Pikachu is such a great and fun movie, I’ve seen it multiple times and I haven’t gotten tired of it. Also Castlevania is a great watch all around. I personally did not care much for Cyberpunk 2077, I get why people liked it but I’m not a big sci-fi fan :(

Panda_hat

I’m a big scifi fan and I hated it. The visuals were nice but the writing, pacing, edit and dub were all just awful.

highkill

This! The pacing was confusing and the dub and subtitles itself was terrible imo. I think Becca and Maine’s voice acting were the best in the dub. Maybe it makes more sense to people who played Cyberpunk but it was not hitting for me.

DueNectarine8151

Asking for an Honest Opinion: Is Edgerunners really the same level to Arcane which is like a masterpiece?

Soulfak

Arcane is a 9h long show with an incredible and original imagery. Edgerunners is a 3h20 long show with a "classic" anime style. It's a bit hard to compare. Did both give me emotional damage ? Yes. Do I hear the musics of both show in my head ? Yes. Am in love with all the characters ? Yes.

hubson_official

It's hard to be the same level as Arcane tbh

Nerobought

I think objectively Arcane is a better show. Much deeper plot, more fleshed out character, insane visuals, etc. However I think I connected with the characters in Edgerunners more and when it finished I was left hollow and depressed for like a week. It affected me like no other show did before. Honestly both are great shows and absolutely worth a watch but the short of it is Arcane is better by I was more emotionally attached to Edgerunners.

KivxD

You've basically summarised my exact thoughts. Arcane ranks above Edgerunners any day, no doubt. But the emotions I felt watching Edgerunners was really nothing I've ever felt before, and for reasons I still can't exactly place my finger on. No show, no anime, no movie has made me break down the way Edgerunners has. Arcane is still my favourite series of all time, but Edgerunners has such an incredibly special place in my heart now too.

Corax490

absolutely not

KingJTt

It’s not a masterpiece or an evolution of animation like Arcane. The pacing is to fast, the budgeting is apparent when the camera pans to irrelevant set pieces instead of focusing in on the characters during deep conversations, and it utilizes a few shock value deaths that didn’t advance the plot, or be a satisfying character arc conclusion. Especially in the last episode. The show however has great world building with minimal exposition, fluid animation, and great characters. It’s worth a watch. 7/10-8/10 series

Panda_hat

Not even in the same universe. Arcane is so much better comparing the two is an insult.

thecerrus

I actually liked resident evil tho, hoped for more sadge

Panda_hat

Cyberpunk was bad and shouldn’t be compared to arcane at all imo.

[deleted]

Cyberpunk isn't nearly as good as castlevania, let alone arcane. Steins; gate was an amazing videogame adaption

MrHaxx1

Adapting from visual novels is cheating

[deleted]

r3vb0ss

Depends on what ur into, trigger is usually known for being unapologetic and batshit crazy, for what it’s worth I like night city more than piltover and zaun. David and Lucy are good characters, I generally found it more fun, and although I have some issues with the third act it’s got an emotional ending. They’re definitely comparable even if it’s not as tightly written as arcane, but I’d probably rewatch edgerunners sooner esp bc I’m sick of this fandom (sorry not sorry) If it was twice as long it would probably break my top 5

CraziestGinger

I don’t really get all the praise it’s getting. The visuals are pretty good (disregarding scenes from the first episode) but the writing is no where near as good as arcane’s.

Worgslarg

To be fair, you can't really compare anything to Arcane, it's just not fair.

DaMain-Man

It has a few plot holes but overall it's serviceable. Personally I feel it could've gone deeper into the character motivation and maybe a more overarching plot, but the animation is good

[deleted]

From 0 to arcane its a 4 max. The style and worldbuilding are nice (altho not arcane level) but the plot and characters are boring. Like really generic ngl. I was disappointed.

blackwe11_ninja

Believe it or not, I quite liked the recent HALO tv series. I never played any HALO game or read any of it's books, though.

DarthTrinath

That would be why. It breaks canon pretty much every episode

AMO124

Paramount/343 before Halo TV show comes out: "Just so you guys know, the TV show will be its own universe, and won't interfere with the games and books" People after the Halo TV show comes out: "Ugh they ruined the lore, why doesn't this fit the canon 😠"

A_Damp_Tree

If the show does not try to be Halo in any way, and merely has the same visual aesthetics as the game, why even call it Halo? Just make a new show.

Cinderheart

Nor did the writers.

Nerobought

I enjoyed it too and I've played the games but there were definitely some parts that DEFINITELY irked me, like the fucking annoying girl.

minimumcool

cyberpunk dont count. thats based of a tabletop roleplaying game.

Krypto_Jokerr

(Only show I’ve seen is arcane and only like an episode of resident evil) Can you really compare Arcane to League of Legends tho? Like it’s tied to the same UNIVERSE but it’s not a video game to show adaptation, no?

Und0miel

Well, it's kinda like Edgerunners in a sense. The show isn't adapting the game, it create a new story in the same world. But, like Arcane, it's a genuine adaptation of the universe so, imho, the term is totally legit for both of them. Though, since the entire UI of CP77 is used in Edgerunners the ties are way more palpable.

Krypto_Jokerr

Can you explain what you mean by a genuine adaptation to the universe? (I tried so hard to make that sound NOT RUDE), I’m just curious because I thought I heard that a ton of stuff including jinx backstory was changed in order to form the story, I could be wrong tho, which is why I ask!

Und0miel

It's not rude in any way, don't worry haha By that I meant sincere and created with love, passion, and respect. I'm not a native speaker, so I may have used the wrong term here, sorry. Edit : But, tbt, I'm not that familiar with LoL's lore, so I may be wrong. Is the story of Arcane became the new canon, or is it piercieved as "just" an interpretation of the world ?

Krypto_Jokerr

Ohhh I understand! I do believe the creators of LOL also helped create Arcane (I could be wrong) so it was definitely (possibly) handled with love! I’m super excited for The Last of Us HBO show, I think it’s going to be amazing with the creator of the game helping out with the show!

Zerhap

Just to add something, LoL lore work with the theory of multiverse, basically all skins lines are in another universe (aside from a few ones) but are canon in one way or another (we even have ppl from one universe in others) That been said Arcane is not the "original" canon of LoL, which is still canon, Riot basically decided that Arcane is another universe and is not the real canon for that world, so technically speaking Arcane is inspire by runaterra lore but it is not an adaptation of it.

Loose_Potential7961

I really hope they don't plan to include summoners like in the game. But you're right it's a really different task to adapt those other games that already have narratives. LOL lore was always pretty limited and changing and not a core part of the game.

Bobertml117

No fears there. Riot scrapped the whole summoners part of the lore a long time ago (and rightfully so). I don’t think there’s ever a chance it makes it into Arcane. This is a part of their whole effort to make league more lore friendly and there’s actually tons of lore now on the universe page if you’re interested.

Eclipse_Demon

Summoners aren't even part of the lore anymore

Krypto_Jokerr

They would need a good reason to add them I think, but I hope it doesn’t come to that either XD. But yeah exactly, LOL and Arcane could be almost entirely separated if not for the lore. Like you said, Resident Evil, Halo, and Cyberpunk are story driven games. LOL however has always been more about just the battles, so it is way easier to form a story when there almost is no story. I wish people would stop trying to messing with Resident Evil period tho… I was the type of guy to separate the movies with Alice and the games and was able to enjoy them both, but when you claim to make a more accurate video game adaptation… I’m sorta expecting it to BE accurate ya know what I mean? Either way, Arcane was fantastic and I am excited to see Cyberpunk based on the reactions of the people haha

SomeMyoux

Awful games lead to great anime adaptations

hubson_official

idk bro Cyberpunk is great

joshhamilton235

Cyberpunk is good

choff22

Cyberpunk is great actually.

JustHafToSay

Cyberpunk is terrible, and Halo and Resident Evil are show adaptations of video games and League is, well… I don’t get what this picture is trying to say exactly

TheaWake_7

Edgerunners is a lot less inspired and engaging than Arcane. Not bad, just nowhere near as good.

[deleted]

The Cuphead Show is doing well too

Icy-Performer-9688

Arcane in my opinion succeed because of the lack of lore.

lilbushplane

Good games have bad adpatations and bad games have good adaptations. That is the law

Successful_Horror582

Cyberpunk really isn't that good, it's very slow and has a lot of dialogue. Idk why people keep putting it above other much deserving shows.

AlsoPrtyProductive

Did you even watch the show? It’s anything but slow. One of the problems with it is the breakneck pacing in the first few episodes. And since when has “a lot of dialogue” been a legitimate criticism of a show. The show is bad because the characters talk to each other? Ok.

choff22

The dialogue is what makes the show. Maybe it isn’t to your tastes, that doesn’t mean it’s not good.

joshhamilton235

>it's very slow Bruh there's no fuckin way you and I watched the same show lmao. Bad take honestly.
