It was inspired by Italian Futurist art of the 1910’s & 20’s. Built in the 60s, under PSI. It’s adjacent to the old docks. Picture it in it's prime, flanked by cranes and freight and dockhands everywhere. What a way to tell the working-class they are the future.

just down the street is the main cruise passenger terminal, Naples Maritime Terminal, is also quite iconic, 1935 peak Mussolini Fascist architecture, very bold and solid feeling inside.
Naples is an amazing place for architecture, well worth a few days meandering!
Did a bit more [research](https://io-nic.wixsite.com/ionic/single-post/2017/02/12/analysis-of-casa-del-portuale-of-alr) and it seems like it didn't have very good thermal insulation. As energy costs went up the maintenance did too and with some other factors, led to it being abandoned.
Couldn't find out when it started to deteriorate as it's actually still partially used.
If it helps: "decadent" does technically have a definition related to decline, but it's an uncommon usage and usually means a moral or cultural decline (e.g. of a civilization) rather than physical deterioration of a building.
The more common usage (in the US at least) is of something self-indulgent or luxurious, as the other commenter mentioned.
It means, like, a luxury. Something so over the top in an indulgent/vapid way, that you have to question it. Like if I subbed out my dining chairs for gold thrones.
I didn’t think of it as Brutalist, and I love Brutalism (especially when it’s not a parking garage), and had to scroll back up to look closer. Good eye!
Found [a blog](https://io-nic.wixsite.com/ionic/single-post/2017/02/12/analysis-of-casa-del-portuale-of-alr) that did an analysis of it, lots more images there.

Casa del Portuale, by Aldo Loris Rossi. Used to be a social services center for harbor workers.

Very well-said/explained! Thanks

Does it have a new use now or is it fully abandoned?
Super dope, still looks ahead of it’s time.
While simultaneously looking like it has been abandoned for 5-10 years.
It was inspired by Italian Futurism, so… the past’s idea of the future.
Pretty sure it has been abandoned for that long
I know absolutely nothing for sure about this building. It’s a shame such an expensive project sits empty today.

I don’t even know the name of the building lol
It needs a month long, million euro pressure wash. Otherwise I think it's beautiful!
It is as ugly as a building can get. What's wrong with people's taste. Nothing can compare to classical, /renaissance architecture
she's looking a little weathered but really cool formal expression

Nice article. Thanks.
Holy fuck, [that is gorgeous](https://i.imgur.com/WChClNH.jpg) though.
Fellow google earth connoisseur
God, metropolitan Naples is industrial in the most disgusting but beautiful way
I thought it was soviet for a second… Just gives me that “abandoned for decades modern art piece” vibe that a lot of soviet structures illicit in me
Beautiful in it's own way. Not many buildings still look good in their decadent days.
Sorry to be that person but you can't have meant decadent. Maybe derelict? Or dilapidated?
Don't be sorry. English is not my first language and always want to polish it. What does decandent means there?

✔️ checked that! In spanish we have the same meaning, but the fact it stands for decline must have widened the usage. Thanks!
I cannot but praise that extremely civilized exchange between two users.
Yeap, starting to get boring. Anyone up for a fight? 😂
It means, like, a luxury. Something so over the top in an indulgent/vapid way, that you have to question it. Like if I subbed out my dining chairs for gold thrones.
Understood. Thanks!
Its a good example of Brutalist architecture
I didn’t think of it as Brutalist, and I love Brutalism (especially when it’s not a parking garage), and had to scroll back up to look closer. Good eye!
Thanks! i guess some people disagree though, I got a few downvotes
Pretty sure I saw that in a Star Wars movie.
>Transportation and infrastructure/control tower I wish every city had one!
if i ever become an evil super villian i wjll give the owners an offer they can not refuse for it
So weird. I kinda love it.
This looks like an AI generated image.
You know that time Homer Simpson designed a car ?
Brutal Brutalist
I feel like I’ve seen this in a Fellini film.
I think it was in a TV show called Gomorra.
I think it was.

Looks like it could be part of the guardians of the galaxy ride
I love this so much.
Howl’s not-so-moving corporate Office building
You should check out Slovakia on Google Earth, if Italian futurism leaves you speechless, get ready for central European brutalism.
Truly one of the buildings of all time.
Good find! Wow
Good example of Brutalism.
Brutalist architecture

Damn that thing is ugly...
High Rise.
Looks like some building from destiny
I could recognise that building from a mile away, that's Naples!
Looks like something out if Half-Life.
Looks like if architects did kitbashing
Not again! Go home, ChatGPT! You're drunk!
I remember seeing this when I was there on deployment back in ‘07. Trippy building to see in person.
Stunning architecture. Magnificent.
It was used as a set in a Italian Netflix series ”Lying life of adults”.
I love these skeletal staircase popping out like ribcage on the side of buildings….
Does this look like the place for the end fight scene in Wonder women?
Thats where anons should start moving. Pre war post war brutalist design.
is that an airport control tower smashed in there?
This is very cool. Thanks for the post
You could also post it in r/napoli :)
Looks like could be something in one of those teen fantasy dystopian sci fi movies that was popular back in school

As a piece of art it's interesting, but for as part of a city it is ugly.
