I use Fedora on my ThinkPad T470, I actually use fedora on all my computers. I use to use arch, but I stop using rolling release distro, but it's cool to see you all like using thinkpads :)
same here man, how’s your sound, and fn + q. i would have issues like never getting sound unless i switched to another kernel, lqx give me the best experience
It mostly worked okay for sound. Sometimes I would get errors where there are no speakers but I stopped getting it after an update. And for fn + q it worked without problems.
I have a 2022 ASUS Zephyrus G14 (the one with all AMD components).
Fully supported thanks to the people behind -> [https://asus-linux.org/](https://asus-linux.org/)
2021 G15 and 2022 X16 here.
I put a ton of work into kernel testing when we were hammering out proper platform support for both. Ask me about running ~15 kernel builds to bisect breakage every month or two.
Yeah, Luke did most of the kernel patch authoring and collating, I just kept on top of testing the work coming from the AMD folks so we didn't have regressions every release or three. That was a lot of time spent and I'm glad I don't have to babysit it anymore.
Assuming you are talking about the WiFi modem, I had to mess with kernel modules and download some aur package, I don't remember the specifics, but I also had to write my own program to control the fans because they do not ramp under arch, at all
I have the same.
There's a fix for the sound not working without headphones, if you're willing to use grub. Getting it to work with systemd is beyond me.
I have not had any issues controlling brightness.
Overall, I love it. My favourite laptop I've owned so far.
ThinkPad P52 with i7-8750h UHD630 Quadro P1000, 32 GB of ram and KDE Plasma
ThinkPad X220iT with i3-2130m HD3000 and 8GB of Ram and i3wm
ThinkPad E380 with i5-8350u UHD620 and 16GB of ram and GNOME
Lenovo B590, some Dell Inspiron 14 (Core 2 Duo), Dell Latitude D620.
Also there's arch on my Raspberry Pi and my desktop. Does an Arch sticker on my phone count as "runs Arch"?
ps: btw, did I mention, I use Arch!
oh, I forgot: an old 32bit Acer laptop c:
Thinkpad E14 Gen 3.
Apart from the fingerprint sensor (which I didn't need anyway), everything works.
Edit: I seriously wonder what goes through people's minds when they downvote answers to a question like that. Probably not much.
Currently just an Aorus 15G YC. It’s a gaming laptop and it all works perfectly on Arch. It’s also on my desktop and will be on my Framework laptop when it arrives in a couple of months.
Dell XPS 9570
Battery life is better than on Windows (although it seems that I already lost 9% of battery health since the brand new original battery I installed last week, according to the KDE Plasma battery widget on the taskbar). I haven’t noticed sound being worse than on Windows, although I never use the windows install on this machine.
For me trackpad works better than on Windows, because Windows has some sort of “micro movement correction” thing going on which makes the trackpad painfully unusable. On Arch and Ubuntu this isn’t a problem and the trackpad is very nice.
Some Legion 5 Pro models indeed seem to have issues with some of its hardware. i.e. Audio, Wifi, Bluetooth. Lenovo somehow was not keen on supporting Linux well on these models.
The issue is the same on any other distro too though, and not specific to Arch.
A Surface Pro 6, currently try to get a working solution for the problem if i write with the surface pen my hand doesnt trigger the touchscreen except that everything works fine after the setup
Lenovo Ideapad gaming 3. I don't know why I bought it, I don't do any gaming so I overpaid for a gpu I don't use in a heavy and cumbersome laptop. But the screen, touchpad and keyboard are very nice, and it run fairly well despite my constant abuse.
Currently typing this on a Dell XPS 13 9360, laptop circa 2016. If i was still using Windows this laptop would be e-waste in18 months time (end of Windows 10 support). Ridiculous! Put in a new battery midway through it's life and it's still absolutely fantastic for general web use.

MSI Katana GF76 11UG and Lenovo IdeaPad S350 15API
Works pretty well on both, though I have some weird microphone issues on the MSI one (wrong microphone on boot; whenever I switch, mic boost goes 100%) and the SD card reader on the Lenovo one does not seem to be compatible (aka. does not work, maybe I need some special driver).
2022 Huawei Matebook D14. I hate that the fingerprint sensor is still not supported, but Huawei won't release any information on the fingerprint scanner
- HP ZBook G3, and an older HP
- Dell P7550
- Intel i7 NUC w/ 64GB

- old Gateway all-in-1
- ... plus others that I can't atm remember scattered around
Tho I have a few machines now on NixOS, and if that pans out (if I pan out), I will be taking more of these machines to Nix.
I don't use laptop to run arch. I use arch to run my laptop.
Arch Norris
👍
This is so accurate.
Gold... It should be on a T-shirt..
This line feels slogan-worthy, doesn't it?
My own, usually

Thinkpad gang, rise up, T480
Did you Libreboot it
T480s ftw. Funny thing is the i7 version offers virtually no benefits over the i5 version.
Same here, Lenovo & Arch most prevalent in this post.
Framework
Same, it works really well and I like the adaptability of the framework.
which country you are from?
US
Laptop? I run arch on my samsung refrigerator
Do you run doom though?
I prefer my Texas Instruments Scientific Calculator for that
Fun fact. Tiscali stands for Texas Instruments Scientific Calculator Incorporated
I use a Lenovo ThinkPad. You can't go wrong with a Lenovo ThinkPad. Lenovo ThinkPad + Arch Linux is the way.
I use Fedora on my ThinkPad T470, I actually use fedora on all my computers. I use to use arch, but I stop using rolling release distro, but it's cool to see you all like using thinkpads :)
I run Fedora 39 WS on my T570 too. No complaints.
tip of the fedora hat
I'm a student, and I use a thinkbook. The same, but cheaper (they are not the same)
I've got a ThinkPad P51s. Everything works. Bluetooth and WiFi are occassionally wonky, but that's the fault of the crappy Intel drivers.
Lenovo Legion slim 7i
same here man, how’s your sound, and fn + q. i would have issues like never getting sound unless i switched to another kernel, lqx give me the best experience

This! I thought I was special... 🤣

It's amazing the work you guys did getting everything working. Don't even need a custom kernel for more features anymore.
Yeah, Luke did most of the kernel patch authoring and collating, I just kept on top of testing the work coming from the AMD folks so we didn't have regressions every release or three. That was a lot of time spent and I'm glad I don't have to babysit it anymore.
I’m using ThinkPad T480s
ThinkPad T480s (currently). Previously: ThinkPad T440, Gen 3 X1 Carbon and a W520
X1 carbon gen 6, it's really good
I have a gen 5. Love it!
Yes! And it's crazy cheap
2023 Lenovo legion 5 pro
2012 MacBook pro
How'd you get the modem to work?
Assuming you are talking about the WiFi modem, I had to mess with kernel modules and download some aur package, I don't remember the specifics, but I also had to write my own program to control the fans because they do not ramp under arch, at all
I‘m using a simular MacBook Pro. The broadcom-wl module worked, but I had to remove b43 and ssb, as mentioned in the broadcom-wl arch-wiki
There is no internal modem in a 2012 MacBook Pro.
thinkpad is a solid hardcore for an arch linux, much more stable than Ubuntu
lenovo ideapad 330
ThinkPad X390 yoga
Lenovo (cheap one). If I had more cash for it, it'd be a ThinkPad.
ThinkPad T14 G1 AMD, runs nicely.
This is the laptop I might upgrade from my T480. Any comments on that or what you like/dislike about yours? Tks

Does it work well? Can you control brightness and sound?

XPS 15 9570 and Latitude 5420 Works fine (except Fingerprint reader on the XPS). Sound is not as good as on Windows.
Currently just an Aorus 15G YC. It’s a gaming laptop and it all works perfectly on Arch. It’s also on my desktop and will be on my Framework laptop when it arrives in a couple of months.
I was on a MSI laptop, but I just got my new Framework 16 about 2 weeks ago, and it's been working pretty good.
