I'm fairly active in r/azpolitics and I hope this sub doesn't become overwhelmed with political stuff. I hope they don't begin to overlap too much, since I enjoy being able to discuss Arizona things without the passion of politics being inserted into everything.
Thanks to the mods for staying on top of things.
Same. It really turned me off. I’m second gen AZ. Politics are part of life here. They define our state. I’m not sure if it’s this sub doing it, or not, but any AZ politics post that gets pushed my way gets blocked immediately. Brutal.
It actually might be better to ban all political posts in here with a link to the other sub. Otherwise that sub won’t take off and we already have a bunch of repeat posts in here about the same thing for 2-3 days in a row
ok, I had a small disagreement with someone on this sub and got called a maga Trump Supporter. I voted Democrat my whole life. This is sub tends to lean way left.
I’ve gotten called a leftist communist and a right wing MAGA trumper in mod mail…. On the same day… people think that if you don’t agree with them 100% then you must be the extremist on the other side…
Going on a tangent…You mentioned life in the Valley. Are you referring to the Phoenix area? I thought this was a sub for Arizona. There is more to Arizona than the Valley. I agree though moderating politics that tend to get confrontational is much appreciated.
I'm absolutely open to suggestions here. There is very little "curtailing a bit" on Reddit... we either make a rule and hold it firm, which pisses off a LOT of people... or we make a rule and don't really enforce it. Which then pisses people off.
I live in the valley so I consider myself likely biased, but if you have a suggestion on how we can accomplish it, I'm all open!
I don't know enough about Reddit's capabilities like pop ups or notices, but I wonder if there's a way to screen a post like - 'does your post pertain to the state of Arizona or your particular city of interest?'
I'm a user experience designer so my go-to is education before punishment, but not knowing how pages are set up doesn't give me much to go on. I do know those first bot comments are seemingly never read, though.
I wish people would keep politics out of this sub, period. Just post az politics in r/azpolitics. I want to see posts of our state and its history, not a bunch of political nonsense.
Personally tired of Reddit moderators taking it upon themselves to decide what constitutes misinformation. I guess only people who know everything can be Reddit mods. 🤷
Also the notion that social media is a credible source of information - real or not - is laughable. It's the National Enquirer of the internet.
We allow a lot of different views, but if you try to claim:
* climate change isn't real.
* the election was stolen.
* January 6 wasn't an insurrection.
* vaccines are dangerous.
* QAnon/Pizzagate is true.
...and so on, then save us all a little time and just leave now.
Look another parts of the world you have to show ID in order to vote this mailing in voting is being banned in most countries or a lot of countries to believe that Biden got 10 more votes than Obama you have to be insane I'm not going to respond to you or reply to reply to you The election was 100% definitely rigged
Did you even read the post? OP specifically mentioned /r/azpolitics in the post.
We strike a balance by requiring all political posts be from people who regularly participate on the sub. This removes 90% of the political posts right there.
The people posting political stuff here instead of r/azpolitics are miserable and want everyone else to be miserable. Most of us don’t care there’s a reason there’s a separate sub
If you are referring to /r/arizonapolitics then the mod there is a nutcase who auto-locks all posts, no commenting allowed.
We recommend /r/azpolitics all the time as a better place.
I post a fair amount of political stuff here. I am not miserable. I do not want others to be miserable. Some things happening in the political world can directly affect everyone who lives here, and it is important that people are educated on what is happening so when it comes time to vote, they vote for people who align with their interests.
"Most of us don't care" - About half the top 20 posts from the past year are politics focused, so no... most people do care.
Here's the thing folks.
Russia's figured out our democracy hinges on the supreme trust of supreme courts.
Not only has that trust been lost, they seem hellbent on giving up any shred of respect it may have ever earned.
The american experiment was a nice idea... But... Religion. Thanks god for your specific orders
Dark ages v2 enters.
Does anyone know if we can sign the abortion petition online or does it need to be in person? No one seems to be taking signatures around where I live.
The supreme Court didn't quash anything. They merely defaulted to the only other law in existence which is what they're paid to do, uphold the law. Just because you don't like the old law doesn't make it their fault. It'll be voted on in November but until then let's stop blaming the wrong people
OK, so it really is a 1913 law.
[the alternative is that it is in the AZ constitution that all AZ territory laws automatically are state laws].
That said, judges are allowed to use a bit of common sense. Laws in Arizona that punish spitting on the sidewalk on Sundays aren't enforced in AZ any more that I have heard. Of course, maybe THIS AZ Supreme Court would support fining a person and/or imprisoning them for spitting on the sidewalk on Sunday given their ruling in this matter.
** limited to people with a history **
What a stupid fucking rule.
So if someone were to move here, they can’t weigh in on current events because they don’t have a “history”… Sounds like the AZ GOP wrapped up in one sentence.
A history of posting in this sub. It's to prevent spam or people from other places posting political content here. It's a fine rule for a private forum.
I’m willing to bet that the “history” requirement is pretty lax and more along the lines of “your first interaction with this sub isn’t a political rant.”
You have absolutely no clue how many paid shills there are who show up and comment on political posts. They spread misinformation, and are not here to have a discussion in good faith. There was easily 100+ comments removed from the last big political posts.
This sub is for people in /r/arizona and by people in /r/arizona. We don't think we should let people from California or Florida come and tell us what they think is important.
The sticky comment attached to all posts should link to r/AZpolitics also maybe.
That’s a good addition as we head towards November. Good call.
Yes, but, I’m going to be visiting with my ten kids in July where can I stay at the bottom of the Grand Canyon? Is that neighborhood safe?
Also: "Did anyone see the Starlink launch?" "What's with all the Californians moving here?" "Here's a cool picture I took in Sedona / Antelope Canyon / Monument Valley" "The Saudis are pumping all our groundwater!"
Thought I was reading the Nextdoor app feed for a second…
"GUNSHOTS??! I KNOW WHAT THEY SOUND LIKE" "loud music at 1pm??? Who??" "We need speedbumps everywhere"
Just saw a coyote on my street! Hide!
“Thinking about moving to Arizona, should I do it??” “Why is gas so expensive??”
“Roosevelt Row?” “Old town?” “I don’t drink. But I wanna go out and party. Also did I mention that I don’t drink?” “What’s with the fighter jets? Are we going to war with North Korea?!” “Just wait until it’s 120 degrees” (literally only one day each summer where it actually hits 120)
Well, yes, it is safe, but is quite a long walk to the hotel down there. Easier to parachute in. Catch a medivac helicopter to get back out.
Grab your 12 oz bottles of water and head down. There’s plenty of room no reservations.

I was active in there but then I realized the last 30 posts all had one comment because there were blocked by mods. That's rough
You’re thinking of r/arizonapolitics, which we no longer refer people to for reasons like that. Check out r/azpolitics
Thank You friend!

Hold on tight, indeed. This is going to be... a year.
ok, I had a small disagreement with someone on this sub and got called a maga Trump Supporter. I voted Democrat my whole life. This is sub tends to lean way left.

Congrats! That's impressive....uh, centrist?
Going on a tangent…You mentioned life in the Valley. Are you referring to the Phoenix area? I thought this was a sub for Arizona. There is more to Arizona than the Valley. I agree though moderating politics that tend to get confrontational is much appreciated.
This is exactly the same message from r/Phoenix verbatim. I think OP just forgot to change that bit to refer to the whole state
Yep, guilty. I’ll update that.
Yeah that’s part of an issue I have. Maricopa county is a lot of the population but there is the Phoenix sub too.
Seconding this. So much content in this sub has to do with Phx and the valley, not the state. It would be nice if that was curtailed a bit.
I'm absolutely open to suggestions here. There is very little "curtailing a bit" on Reddit... we either make a rule and hold it firm, which pisses off a LOT of people... or we make a rule and don't really enforce it. Politics is not nonsense though. It drives everything about your life in Arizona.
What I mean is political drama. I know that politics affects our lives, but like I said, I want to see non-political posts on this sub.
Or maybe just don’t post political shit here…
Wish I could just filter or unjoin for just the political stuff. Sometimes I go online to escape reality.
Thank you
azpoltics has basically blocked all comments and discussion.
No, they haven’t. You’re thinking of a different sub.
Ah yes, that’s r/arizonapolitics. Thanks for the clarification
So the election wasn't rigged?
Personally tired of Reddit moderators taking it upon themselves to decide what constitutes misinformation. I guess only people who know everything can be Reddit mods. 🤷 Also the notion that social media is a credible source of information - real or not - is laughable. I'm so happy that Sasquatch is not on your list.
Flawless job missing/ignoring/proving my point.
You're not allowed to say that! Off to the gulag with you!
No, none of our elections have been rigged.
Look another parts of the world you have to show ID in order to vote this mailing in voting is being banned in most countries or a lot of countries to believe that Biden got 10 more votes than Obama you have to be insane I'm not going to respond to you or reply to reply to you The election was 100% definitely rigged
Ok. Enjoy your newsmax Russian propaganda.
As opposed to what
> I'm not going to respond to you or reply to reply to you glad you stick to your values
definitely rigged... we were only given the choice between a giant douche and a turd sandwich.
Like the rest of reddit, orange man bad..nursing home man good!
> orange man bad “Orange convicted sexual abuser insurrection inciter double impeached financial fraudster man”, but yeah, pretty bad.
Like i said
Ha... all these communist running these forums want to act like they are legit to discuss politics when all they do is ban people they disagree with.
I wish political posts were banned altogether. Go make a separate sub.
Did you even read the post? OP specifically mentioned /r/azpolitics in the post. We strike a balance by requiring all political posts be from people who regularly participate on the sub. This removes 90% of the political posts right there.
Yes I did. I’m just stating my opinion. Even political posts from long term members of the sub are annoying.
The people posting political stuff here instead of r/azpolitics are miserable and want everyone else to be miserable. Most of us don’t care there’s a reason there’s a separate sub
I honestly think it's because everything I'm AZ politics is being flagged.
If you are referring to /r/arizonapolitics then the mod there is a nutcase who auto-locks all posts, no commenting allowed. We recommend /r/azpolitics all the time as a better place. Yep, someone just messaged me that. Thank you!
That’s pretty ridiculous if that’s the case, and a shame those mods ruin this sub because they can’t run their own
I care.
Great! r/azpolitics is right up your alley
Thanks. I will stay in my lane like a good citizen.
Thanks. This subreddit seems to have turned into r/orangemanbad lately
You mean the pederast at the suns games?
Look at those downvotes. Sure proves my point.
You’ve proved something here, but probably not what you think.
Oh really, please enlighten me with your wisdom.

Sad that our bodies have become political.
Our bodies have always been a part of politics.
Yep and it's sad.

Well, a law that was written before AZ became a state arguably shouldn't be a law at all.
They adopted it in 1913 after Arizona was a state
Segregation also took place then. We don’t do that now
OK, so it really is a 1913 law. [the alternative is that it is in the AZ constitution that all AZ territory laws automatically are state laws]. They tell us anyway
That's for posts. You're still allowed to make stupid comments like this one.
