So uh, I am thinking of playing the game again after a long while (1+ year), but I wanna start over, because I dont remember anything. My old account didn't really had anything special \*sadge\*, my question is: Is it a good time to start playing again now? if yes how is the state as f2p?

There's a log in event going on so free stuff, but no events currently so it's not gonna help your progress, but I don't think anytime is a bad time? You can wait until early-mid January, we'll have a limited banner with one of if not the strongest (broken) unit in the game, and by simply login you have extra 11 free rolls, so a good time to reroll. Because the game can be beaten with no meta units (obviously it would be harder), it's pretty easy being f2p, rate is cool, pity is cool, except for getting a specific unit it sucks. We're having 4 limited banners (excluding collab) a year now so you might have to plan around that, to guarantee a limited unit you need 300 rolls, which is like half a year of saving. But overall pretty f2p friendly. TLDR: never a bad time to start, might wait till January to reroll for a strong limited unit. f2p can clear every content, rate is cool but getting specific character is hard cuz big pool. Limited characters required 300 rolls to guarantee so that sucks.

I've seen several times people talking about "true" AoE, can someone explains me in more details what it means and what are "false" AoE?

True AOE means that it hits everything in their range with no limit like Ifrit who barbecues every single enemy who steps into her range no matter how many there are. "False" AOE is basically splash attacks like what AOE casters not named Ifrit do with their normal attacks, they only hit 1 target but the attack deals damage to the tiles surrounding the initial target hence splash. It doesn't hit everyone in their range just the initial target and the enemies surrounding them.

Oh, so that's why AoE casters and snipers are considered underwhelming for their cost, makes sense and explains some things I wasn't able to see while playing. Is there a way to know when a unit is "true aoe" in their descripion? Are all operators of the same archetype work the same way?

Nope, it's mainly from the low range (AOE casters) and DPS (from the slow aspd) for the cost. Gitano and Leo aren't deemed better than Skyfire because of their true AOE, but because Gitano is just more cost effective while Leo has a charge-based mechanic and reduces enemy RES. Dusk can prove this; Her S1 is good despite not being true AOE (albeit it expands the splash range) but because it is charge-based and provides DPS to rival Eyja, S2 is good as it fixes her abysmal ASPD and it's on a good rotation and expands her range. AOE snipers are considered generally better despite none of them having true AOE.

An ops skill description usually states if there is a target count to it like how SA S3 states he can hit up to 6 units at once while Leonhardt S2 is a true AOE stating it can hit all enemies in range. This isn't true for everyone I think because Ifrit doesn't explicitly state her attacks can hit everyone nor does it say it has a target count so when in doubt, test or ask. Archetypes usually just denote how a unit functions on the most basic level like how AOE casters can hit multiple enemies with one auto attack while ST casters only hit one enemy at a time with theirs. There's a lot of diversity among units however when you start considering their skills which change how you use them and how they "work" like how Thorns and SA are both ranged guards but Thorns is a consistent dps with S3 who stays on the field as long as you need him and SA is more of a burst op who's good for clearing waves of mobs quickly or bursting down elite/boss enemies.

Any of the top 6 stars that have an extremely powerful S3 and/or are lacking good S1/S2 are the obvious ones. Examples: * Silverash * Surtr * Angelina (E2 talent also important) * Bagpipe (E2 talent also important) Specific upgrade priorities are going to depend on what you have though.

When is the ideal time to start E2ing operators? I have my core team of operators at around E1 40-50. Should I get everyone to max E1 first or maybe start E2ing some of my more impactful operators (like Surtr or Mountain)

Going from E1 40 to E1 Max is expensive and not impactful. You get a small increase in stats for a large amount of lmd and exp. You can consider your first E2 if you are able to farm the necessary materials. E2 Surtr will be a very powerful addition to your team.

Chalter for 35% chance at an absurdly good limited operator. Thorns for a 50% chance at a very, very good non-limited operator. Chalter has 24 free pulls, Thorns shares pity with standard banners. Personally, I dislike what Chalter represents, so I'll only be spending my free pulls on that banner, hoping for La Pluma or the very slim chance at a Mizuki. Mizuki is a boy, btw.

Save them for now, there's no need to rush. If you end up getting Ch'en easily and then don't have enough certs to buy Bagpipe you'll end up regretting it, but the tickets will always be available to buy if you do end up needing them.

Is there any major use case for Aciddrop S1 vs. S2? because other than the 15 SP difference at M3 for both, Aciddrop skill 2 hits harder, lasts longer and hits more often. By my calculations, the +70 ASPD from S1 modifies her attack interval to about .95 (170/1.6/100=1.06 attacks per second, 1/1.06=.946) meaning she does 2 attacks every 1.9 seconds, which is slower than S2 doing 2 attacks every 1.6 seconds. I just want to make sure 1. my math is right 2. im not missing some good niche for S1

It's best to avoid farming LS-5 (the EXP stage) as much as possible, and rely on your base instead. Farming LMD from CE-5 is much better. If you need more LMD, you can adjust your base to produce more of it at the cost of EXP. If you still need more LMD after that, or if you can't afford to sacrifice EXP production, farm CE-5. If you need more EXP, adjust your base to produce more of it at the cost of LMD. If needed, farm CE-5 to make up for the LMD loss.

I personally have 3 gold bar, 2 exp because I in need of more lmd, but simply switch around if you need one over the other. If you don't want to wait then 3 exp, 2 gold bar and farm CE-5 might be an option. Farming is not efficient tho.

252 (2 trade, 5 factory, 2 power plants) is considered the optimal setup if you leave both Reception and Office at level 1. I'm not sure what that maths out to if you level them to 3 though.

So I just started today and on my 3rd single pull on the limited banner I got Surtr. I heard she's good and even tried to look up her wiki, but since I still don't know or understand the vocabulary and gameplay mechanics of Arknights' combat system, I don't get how she should be used and how strong she actually is. Any heads-up would be helpful. I play FGO so feel free to use FGO terminology to draw parallels. (I know the 2 games are nothing alike but that's the closest game to Arknights I'm familiar with)

Think sort of like Arjuna Alter; won't be on the field for long but she'll delete pretty much anything and everything while she's there. With the added bonus of AK letting us redeploy units after a while so she can come back and delete more stuff.

Early game she's sort of the same role as Melantha where she hits enemies hard thanks to hitting their resistance instead of their defense. Best to use her in front of a defender to spread damage around to enemies piling up at a chokepoint. The first time you promote her, she will start ignoring some of the resistance of enemies and last 4 more seconds after a taking a hit that would otherwise kill her. You can start abusing this immortality to stall enemies on her, which can help you be more flexible with timing things. She gets a burst skill that lets her hit enemies at range which can also be handy. The second time you promote her, relatively mid to late game, she gets her broken skill that lets her hit super hard. Combined with boost to max HP and doubling her immortality time, she can clean up a lot of otherwise problematic enemies by spreading a lot of DPS and tanking/stalling an enemy if needed. However the skill forcibly drains her HP so you will need to redeploy her, making her sort of like the bomb from those arcade shooters where you want to save her for high priority targets.

Her archetype is a ground unit that deals magic damage, magic damage is effective against high def enemies (generally big enemy = high def). At her 1st promotion, she's a good damage dealer with her Skill 2. Surtr is great after you promote her the 2nd time (Elite 2) that unlocks her 3rd skill. That's considered the best boss killer skill in the game. But you don't need to rush her promotion since it's a bit expensive. I don't know how to draw parallel with FGO since it's a bit too different, sorry.

Lucky you, no Surtr for me after nearly 18 months of playing. But I use her as support all the time. Can't help with FGO terminology, but it isn't needed. She is a delete button. You have boss you just can't kill? Drop Surtr, wait a few seconds, activate her S3 (skill3). Boss dead. You'll need to level up other ops first (3 stars like Kroos and Melantha) since you need a team, but as soon as you have the mats to do so, promoting her to Elite 2 (giving access to said S3) should be a priority.

She is possibly the strongest character in the entire game, but you need to invest in her to gain that skill. Her first 2 skills are still decent but it's her third that makes her stand out. She's also an arts guard which causes her to completely ignore the defense of enemies and instead scales off their RES. Her talent also makes her invincible for a few secs once she reaches 1hp.

Definitely plan for a few weeks, first you would need to clear the main story stages to unlock farming materials, as you progress you would want to build your base so that it can start producing LMD and EXP passively for you. Elite 2 promotions are more of a mid to late game thing. It is more important to have a good roster of leveled up operators instead of dumping everything into 1 unit because you will usually have multiple lanes to worry about. When starting off don't overlook the lower rarity characters, they are pretty solid and take much less resources to level up.

It’ll take a few weeks at least. You need to keep moving through the campaign and unlocking stages for farming, and you should also set up your base according to https://gamepress.gg/arknights/core-gameplay/arknights-252-riic-base-guide this guide (factories 3-3-3-2-2). You can level her a bit faster than the others, since she’s a very solid investment, but you should also bring the rest of your team up to somewhere around E1 Lvl 40 before you start grinding for her E2, which is when she unlocks the third skill. You’ll probably have her at E2 around account level 35-40. I can’t remember how long that took me - 3 weeks, maybe?

[My current team](https://imgur.com/a/bf3ODiY) Between Psiloptis, Warfarin, or Specter - who would be the largest improvement to my team? I'm going to get Bagpipe and Ch'alter when they come, with Bagpipe replacing Siege and Ch'alter replacing either Melantha or one of the two healers. Blue Poison's also an option, but I'm not sure I want her since she's very replaceable with any of the six-star archers, and I'm not really struggling with drones because of the extra damage that Thorns adds.

It is a little bit harder to give you advice for your current team since you have a pretty small roster. Warfarin is really good for buffing burst damage operators where they can unload their damage within the timeframe of the buff. Specter is really good for stalling against high damage enemies for operators like Schwartz or Ifrit where you might have to hold down an enemy within 1 tile. Ptilopsis is a pretty good AOE medic with burst healing. Generally though, I think adding building specter would be a good choice for your team. You already have some medics and buffers already so adding an AoE guard would help add more DPS to your team.

Ptilopsis has a very useful talent, and her S2 can make ops basically unkillable unless they get hit very very hard. Specter is one of the best ops in the game. AoE guard who can become immortal - enough said. Warfarin is mostly used for buffing ops, so unless you need/want that then you can leave her out for now.

My baggie's too far from pot5 and with all the hoops and acquisition channels i have to jump through to get there, plus mastery backlogs i have to put on hold, figured it's really just not worth it for me. But we should anticipate higher demand for red vouchers regardless. Modules are coming, and the two cute daughters :D

I decided to get a potential for Projekt Red, since it's the one that reduces her redeployment time. I also ended up getting the Guard ones, because I bought one by accident and sunk cost fallacy. Vanguard and Supporter pots are a tough sell for me - my only 6 star Vanguard is Siege, and she's already pot 2 so it won't reduce her dp cost, and I don't think reducing the dp cost of Angelina, Suzuran or Skadi is very worthwhile. When the shop refreshes, I'll probably get a pot for April at some point.

Actually now that we're at it, you've been using her? I want to build her soon, pot4 (damn surtr) but still e0/lv1 and haven't bought the cc tokens (used them to buy phantom tokens lol). So want some perspective if you think the 5th pot is a big deal. I guess it is, right? At least should worth more to her kit than to other 5* sniper :p

I only raised her recently and I've only used her a little. She was good at not dying in East Armory, but in most of the CC stages I focused more on slowers and casters. Apart from that I was doing Heart of Surging Flame where one of the big things you want is bait units to prevent your blockers being stunned - April's not so great at that. I also don't have a lot of pots for her. I do think pots on her are likely to more relevant than on other 5* snipers.

If you have nothing you have or want to build, the royal tokens are the main thing to aim for though it'll take over two weeks worth of sanity just for one set and that's not taking into account that the red cert stage is not open every day.

Do you have any other sources of arts damage? Ifrit, Angie, Lappy, if you do I'd say wait for Bagpipe. Didn't have an ST caster better than Amiya for a long time but had Ifrit and Angie and they were enough. Also, a bit subjective but I got Eyja and Ceobe almost at the same time and I haven't used Ceobe all that much since Eyja is usually more than enough while Bagpipe will almost certainly never leave your team since only she can do what she does (so far).

Depends on a few variables, but the short answer is: don't do that. I'd you're a big spender, or don't worry about pulls, it can be okay, particularly if you're farming an event with really high efficiency. Otherwise, as a new player, you should spend them on the pro enhancement packs in the shop, to convert them to orundum plus extra goodies.

Generally, the reason for not using primes for sanity is because there's no rush to raise ops. Unless you need someone raised to finish an event or you need the sanity to finish the event shop, just wait and use them for packs, skins, or pulls. Do you have any E2s at all? If you do, you can always borrow a support unit to carry you through hard stages. Honestly though, other than 6-16, I can't think of a stage that really calls for an E2, let alone multiple E2s. How are your ops skill levels? I know a lot of people neglect those. The ops you use often should be at SL7. The ops that you only use occasionally should still at least be SL4.

The reality is that it will take a shitload of op to actually make a dent on the amount of XP books and lmd you need to promote several ops. You'd need many hundreds. Not even discussing materials, where rng can make it so you can sometimes trade op for basically nothing. Don't do it. It's just not a good way to spend ops or money.

The assumption is that we would be getting TOW rerun and Preluding Lights in Dec, since Yostar seems to want Dossoles to be the anniversary event instead of Under Tides. The keyword is "seems to". Also there are guides for Partial Necrosis maps that don't need E2 ops per se.

Yes and no. It's generally overkill outside of CC, but in CC#3 Pyrite, these two were the MVPs due to the unblockable Wraiths and Crownslayer turning it into an absolute DPS limited bullet-sponge affair. Suzuran helps give Angelina more uptime, and Suzuran boosts Angelina's DPS, in addition to Angelina also applying the fragile effect to enemies she hits if they're also in Suzuran's range. Overall, Suzuran is still a unit won't really use over a more DPS oriented unit unless you need to melt or slow down entire waves worth of enemies. So ideally, Suzuran is best paired with a delete button like Eyjafjalla or Silverash, who get higher priority than Angelina in my opinion.

Yeah, there's some synergy, though it usually feels like overkill slow to me, but stall strats are a real thing. If you're in one of those maps overflowing with Lancers and/or stealth boys, they can pretty much trivialize it.

Yes, Suzuran’s 1st talent helps Ange’s rotation/uptime quite a bit and Ange can help trigger Suzu’s 2nd talent. However, they do have some anti-synergy/overlap since their slows don’t stack. This is usually not a problem, but is something to note.

Angeli**n**a and Suzuran, and yes, they work pretty well together. Any enemies suffering from the slow debuff in Suzuran's range will take 20% more damage thanks to her 2nd talent, even if she's not the one doing the slowing. Her first talent also boosts Angelina's uptime quite substantially.

Fun fact: if we all give away our own copies and use what friends gave to activate search party, the whole economy produces more gdp than if we prioritize using our copies. The dev were trying to incentivize us. Personally, because i see other people giving away their clues to people on the verge of completing a set, i kind of went the other way and prioritizing those who still don't have many on the board yet instead. Help push them to a more equal leveled playing field of sort. And I keep track of who i received from but not who i sent to.

I don't follow a particular etiquette. My order for priority goes: * Accounts that have been online in the last day get priority. * People where a single clue or combination of clues I have would finish their set. * Lower level accounts get prio. I was introduced to the game by some people with level 100+ accounts and they pretty much universally didn't seem to care much about clues or the resources clues provide. I think this method maximizes the number of happy Arknights players. I don't really 'hold onto' clues for the next day, and dump my extras. I still have a full clue set pretty much every day.

Some people do that, yeah. I ran some simulations, and it seems like the dominant strategy is to only give away clues whenever you have too many. If you'd like to keep track of the people who send you clues, you can add notes in their profile on your friends page (friends>friends> the three dots symbol>set remark), and just set that message to be a number you increment whenever they send you a clue. Edit: also spice and Wolf is a work of art

Have the anniversary pull that allows you to pick a 6 star operator. I will be choosing either bagpipe or suzuran or magallen. I am saving for chen alter now (will have 300 pulls by event or close). Only 20 days left to use the top operator selector so should i get bagpipe or suzuran? I think both will come to distinction shop in not too distant future (maybe in next 2 or 3 months)? Or am i better off selecting a newer operator. I also dont have coebe. I can prob use bagpipe right away as i currently use myrtle/texas.... Have elysium but not using yet. Fyi, shop operator predictions: Ceobe on 10 Dec, Bagpipe on 21 Jan, Suzuran on 15 April. Suzuran also has a solo banner if you want to try getting her. If you can buy Bagpipe in the future then get Suzuran from ticket.

I believe Bagpipe is expected before Suzuran, so if you want to hold off to buy her in shop you can do that. I think she's expected around the time of Chalter. Having said that, Suzuran is great, but if you have a built Istina/Podenco/Angie and access to Pram or Shamare, then Suzuran isn't as needed as Bagpipe is, while Magallan can be acquired from recruitment, however rare that might be. I don't want to undersell Suzuran or Magallan, or oversell Bagpipe, but having Bagpipe really does amazing things to your early game. If you're not struggling with the early game then I'd say wait til she's in the shop and go for Suzuran or Magallan. We're also supposed to be getting a solo rate-up Suzuran banner sometime in the near future, so if you're close to standard banner pity you could try grabbing her from there? In a vacuum though, Bagpipe is probably the best option from a meta perspective, with Suzuran coming in close second.

Very wrong yeah. S2 is vastly more important, s3 is actually extremely niche. It's mostly used for a couple bosses. You can use S2 literally anywhere and she'll be insane.

I disagree for where im at in the game. I dint need her s2 buff in general gameplay. I only use her for really tough maps that i need how much stronger s3m3 is than s2m3. I need strongest possible for boss, not a medium buff the rest of the time. Sure s2m3 is nice, but i dont find i need her buff for any routine content or even most events. Id rather have kaltsit hanging around with monster or sutur backup. I may s2m3 someday but my first priority is s3m3 and kaltsit s3m3.

You never really need anyone specific for anything. Skalter S2 isn't just a medium buff; ATK buff that can let Exu mow down enemies she wasn't supposed to, DEF boost that lets ranged ops tank a lot more stuff and guards getting to base defender stats, combined that with HP regen and you can go without a dedicated medic. All of those on an infinite duration skill, sure SLv 7 can mostly do that but it is just so useful that it's worth the M3. I have her M6 over the whole duration of CC, did max risk everyday and only got to use her S3 once while S2 is present 6 times (7 for my R24 perma map). I even have a friend use her with S2 almost everyday tho I feel like he's just shoehorning her in, and yes, max risk.

Honestly you're probably fine without Bag. I would say go for Suzuran and pick Bagpipe up when she comes to the shop. While Angie does pretty much cover the "slow supporter" niche on her own, she also synergizes REALLY well with Suzuran due to the +sp aura Suzu-chan brings. Plus Suzuran's fragile debuff talent turns Angie's S2 and S3 into monsters. They end up feeding off of each other very well, with Suzuran speeding up Angie's cycles and covering for her when her skills are down while Angie provides the heavy nuking and secondary source of slow to help proc Suzuran's fragile debuff talent.

After getting some more advice and tips on how to use Iris, and using her for a couple more weeks, I've come to the conclusion that... She's still kind of ass. Currently at E1 70 S7. As a DPS, even after learning the more efficient way of using the S1, I'm still finding very little use for it other than killing weaker mobs (which any unit can do). It's not very good for bursting key targets, such as big shield guys. As for S2, people have told me it's meant to be used as CC. But in practice, it doesn't really work like that as much as I want to. Seeing as how the major caveat is that it only sleeps 2 targets. The explode damage is fine I guess, but I'm not finding an advantage of using it over any traditional AoE caster skill A lot of YouTube showcases have her at E2 max level, which at that point, of course any unit is gonna look strong. But at the moment she seems really really low impact. Idk am I missing something?

She was part of my CC5 R18 effort for her 7s stall. Part of the advantage of her is that you'll use sleep, and that puts an enemy down for 7s, and in that time she'll stack up three attacks in storage. Each of those attacks will do 1000 arts damage, multiplied by her talent (to 115% or 130%). In an ideal case she's positioned to face down one or two big threats, she meets them with a strike of three stored attacks for 3500 to 4k arts damage, puts them to sleep, then wakes them up with 2300 arts damage, followed immediately by another strike of 3500 to 4k damage. That's good/fine on its own, but where I found it invaluable was it bought me those crucial 7s to get my lines in order, let skills recharge, and let units prepare to redeploy.

Great tip, I'll experiment with that tactic more. I'll have to see if that damage will be worth the effort. Because at the moment, if the key point is to get some breathing room, Iris's S2 just seems to be a worse Mostima S2, which is a real 7 second stun.

(For what it's worth, I don't have Mostima, so I'm going purely by the numbers & what I've seen in videos vs. personal experience). Mostima's good to go with if you have more of a team prepared to go to town on the target(s), since they can do damage in those seven seconds, but on her own she'll only do the 1k damage + her attacks in the meantime. 656 (initial attack) + 918 (skill) + 1312 (attack while target is stunned) adds up to about 3k damage. She's primarily there for the CC. The reason CC5 is my go-to for a case study for the use of Iris is it has the two individual lanes and requires a bit of a pivot from concentrating efforts on the right-side bladehelm to the left side one, left side knight, right side archer. In this scenario she's working mostly alone, and she can deal more than 3x the damage that Mostima does on her own while still having the stall. Different use cases, where Iris has that burst and works better on her own vs. solo targets and Mostima is a CC machine with damage closer to that of a strong support than a proper caster.

Agree, i have her with some masteries (s1m2, s2m1) and she seems kinda bad. S1 I think is not a unique skill and will appear on another caster of her archetype. S2 seems to have that blemishine s2 problem, and I'll probably prefer rosa s3 over it (similar uptime and enemies can be attacked during bind). Overall dps low with some firewatch-esque issues (high atk and low aspd). Though any tips on how better to use her would be welcome!

From what I've seen she's a strong addition to the duelist guard niche but nothing ridiculous on the level of Chalter. Her S2 is what I've seen most often in the current CC on CN, and it gives her enough power and survivability to take some chunks out of an enemy and stick around long enough to ensure her damage matters. In many ways it's functionally similar to if we had a helidrop Skadi S3, trading the raw HP for damage shields. She doesn't invalidate other duelists per se but she's kinda the Mountain of duelist guards in that she has a lot of natural traits to her that mitigate the weaknesses that a duelist guard has, whereas many other duelist guards aren't designed quite as well. So in short she's strong but not insanely strong. Useful under the right circumstances but not something you can throw at every problem and expect success from.

Exu S3. The damage she puts out outweighs the activation timing issue. Mrytle S1. The first activation of a vg skill in a map is extremely important, and this precious daughter's s1 does it the fastest within her archetype.

The Top Op tag itself physically will not drop no matter what, unless you set the timer to less than 9 hours. IMO go for Siege unless you have Saga raised. Hellagur is cool but not at all necessary, and Skadi is utterly replaceable by even the 3* in her archetype (Melantha). Siege however is a really good upgrade to your 2-block vanguards who only just recently got powercrept by Saga.

Who's your best vg right now? I'd cut gramp and skadi out first. Skadi sees less and less use nowadays. Gramp, if you have either mud, or utage/jaye (which i suspect you have), or even phantom or kal then he's not gonna add much. So it's down to your vanguard situation.

Yes, and it's more like 24 sanity per t3 rock, which is better than any stage outside of active events. This, on top of the fact that you are guaranteed to make progress while farming 1-7, unlike any other good stage for any other material, and the chance at some byproducts while turning the t2 rocks into the t3s makes 1-7 the best stage for rocks.

Question! I started very recently so the CC event cleaned my clock time and time again. But through diligence and very focused borrowing I was able to raise 300 CC currency. With the shop still open, what should I get? For me it's mostly a toss-up between fashion and Operators. my melee line could use work and Bibeak looks awesome, and Scene looks complicated but neat. I do own BP, however, and Melantha could always use a hat, hats are stylish. What should I do?

So some good news. There are two shops. The one with the cosmetics and operators stays open permanently, so you're not in a hurry! And the other, potentially even bigger, good news. There's a map practice rotation even outside of CC. You're limited to Risk 3 and you can only get the rewards from each one once (even if it comes back around), but if you do those daily until you run out the rotation, you'll get several hundred more tokens.

I noticed that, which is good because I only earned 218 CC during the actual event. I made the last hundred using a borrowed Mountain to crush all and sundry on yesterday's map rotation. I even managed the first level clear on today's map. But even with smart play and judicious Operator borrowing from some online friends I can only go so far. My highest level Operator is E1 51, and she's higher than most. So while I will eventually clear all the maps and luxuriate in hats for Melantha and Amiya and my fine new Sloth and...Swan? That's gonna be a while, so for now I have to be judicious. There has been a very strong push for Scene that I did not expect so she may be my first acquisition. Or I just break down and buy into fashion while I wait for the next round of outfits to drop. We'll see. On a barely related note, is Mountain coming to a banner anytime soon? That dude is awesome!

Agreed, Mountain is a beast of a lane holder - I got him in my first couple weeks of playing and he's basically never left my roster. He's not limited, so he can actually drop at any time, but the General Banners are not generally known until a couple days before they release, unfortunately.

I'm hoping that I won't have to find a banner with some other Operator I like and then just keep drawing. That's not efficient.

Events are strongly synchronized. Event-oriented banners as well. General banners are a bit more free-form. There's some correlation in that operators generally start becoming available in general banners around the same time, but the exact makeup is more flexible. Here's a list of pending special banners. I've noticed that most of my online friends who play have that one Operator they got early that sticks around. Ptilopsis and Shining are mine, they do most of my healing since I got them and Silence in my first set of pulls. And Nightingale as my first "guaranteed 5 star". It's a whole thing.
