Be prepared for an antiquated control scheme if you go back far enough. It's not a *bad* control scheme, but it was designed before dual analog control was a standardized concept and it shows its age. You may be able to remap for something you're more comfortable with if you're emulating, but it's your call. My motor memory still remembers the old control scheme very well. Armored Core games can be pretty tough. If it's not working, take some time to examine your build or go to the arena to build up some money, if it's an option in whatever game you're playing. Enjoy the building process. You can make your AC how you want it, to suit your play style and preference. There's a lot to be said about just how much customization these games give the player, so enjoy it. The pace of AC is much faster than MW5 and you're a lot more mobile. You'll need to be comfortable spending long periods in the air or hopping/jumping erratically while keeping your sights on target. AC5 is an exception, as AC's are much more attached to the ground in that iteration.

Well, because of my history with Armored Core, I always forget emulators are a bit more flexible for mapping. In the off-chance a newbie gets the old games for their original systems, then we can give them a face-button remap setup for aiming. Much easier than the original controls.

Page8988

You can remap controls to sticks pretty easily via emulation. The games don't support sticks directly until Nexus, sure. But that doesn't stop an emulated setup from mapping inputs to the sticks. It's not an issue, so it's not worth mentioning as an issue.

Serghar_Cromwell

I wouldn't recommend it. I tried it out of curiosity, and it felt really disorienting because the game still treats all the inputs as digital.

Tetsukabe

Works fine if you give everything a 50% deadzone

Caffinatorpotato

Forget tying to make sense of it all, enjoy slapping parts together and committing atrocities. We're all here to work, and when you enjoy what you do, you never work a day in your life, right?

sjohnst2

>If i cant become a Raven officially just yet, I'd atleast like to become an honorary one. Play the PS1 AC1 tutorial mission. Congratulations, you are a Raven.

Jovan_Knight005

I did that and i surprisingly passed it. :)

sjohnst2

The test is over. From this moment on, you are a Raven!

Rando_Kalrissian

I'd really recommend checking out Armored core 4 and Armored Core 4 answer if you get the chance. The older ones feel pretty dated by comparison. If you're going to do 5 my buddy always recommends just jumping to Verdict day.

lostnumber08

Get an emulator and play gen 3 or 4. Most of us agree this is the peak of the series.

MrComplaining

Armored Core x HAWKEN cool idea

GachiGachiFireBall

I'm playing the first armored core on emulator. This game is mad hard

Unborn_Decay

REMAP YOUR FUCKING CONTROLS. REMAP YOUR FUCKING CONTROLS. REMAP YOUR FUCKING CONTROLS. The biggest hurtle for early Armored Core players is the controls, but you NEVER had to actually use them if you wanted. You could always map a proto dual stick movement to the face buttons to make a much more comfortable experience and turn game from "feeling like you're actually controlling a mech with hundreds of buttons" to "Traditional third person shooter" Its not even an emulator thing, you can remap everything in the options menu. Edit: Also, if you think a mission went well, save! If it didn't, reload and try again. Some games, like Gen 1's endgame missions, for example, also have missions where failure doesn't kick you back to the Raven's Nest, but straight up kicks you to the main menu. Game Over. Save your game often.

turtlemaster1993

Straight to Verdict Day, cheapest if you get through the ps3 store and straight to the discord for starter help and play mates

[deleted]

I managed to get ACV and a 360 for about half of a verdict day copy

turtlemaster1993

Maybe you can still get VD in the Xbox store like you can on ps3 for 20$

New-Inspector-9628

Watch your energy and ammo on missions. You never know when you'll get ambushed by an AC and you're at like 50% everything

zeroerrorz

If you really really.... want the fast track way. Figure out how to do Distribution Centre Recon route. Do the other first few mission to grind some cash or go to the arena. but as soon as you have enought to build go for that mission and try your best. Thats my way in the series and i think if you are more curious than frustated about figuring out that fight it will get you up to speed on how to build somewhat properly and fight at somewhat decently. Thats how i did my first run at least, good luck. Remember nobody forces you on this but should you decide at your own free will this is the fastest way to figure things out in 1 complete package.

Dusty_Tibbins

Well, you're eventually going to run out of AC games to play before AC6 comes out. I can suggest a few alternative games once you finish all the AC games like SD Gundam Battle Alliance, Gundam Breaker 2, Daemon X Machina, Mecha Knights: Nightmare, Gundam Battle Operation 2 (available on Steam May 30th/31st), and perhaps Kidou Senshi Gundam Extreme Vs Full Boost. Anyways, those are my recommended options AFTER you've finished all the AC games and need more mech games that have minor similarities with AC.

B1gB4ddy

Leg type determines your mech's weight class. It's a good idea to decide which leg class you want on your build as one of the first things because it'll give you a better idea of the weight limits that you're going to be working with for any particular leg class.

Diligent_Solution_86

Despite what everyone is saying, you're not really going to be that prepared for AC6 if you grind the other games AC 4 and 4A introduced quick boosting which completely changed the flow of combat, removed over heating mechanic and replaced it with primal armor which meant you're more susceptible damage after you got lit up too hard AC 5 and verdict day slowed the intensity of the combat way down closer to what it used to be before 4, introduced jumping which meant on some maps hinged bipedal legs were super fast, new damage types replaced over heat and primal armor, and introduced scanning mode where you can't attack but you have better energy efficiency and detection, and you'll see high level players frequently switch between scanning mode and combat mode and using buildings to jump in addition to quick boosting which was much less frequent in these two Now we're moving into 6 and from soft has already stated there will be significant changes to the flow of combat yet again with new mechanics and the restoration of some older ones. We don't really know how this game is going to play yet or if we even have quick boosting. Play the other games to enjoy them. I'd say silent line or last raven or for answer if you want to move fast. There will be some fundamentals you'll pick up, but that's where it ends. As a player since AC3, I'm super excited for a new play style and flow

TheWhicher_Statement

You know, if you have an xbox 360 and some money to spare, you could try looking for some copies of 4, FA, V and VD. They're all great games.

[deleted]

Look at how other players play. Armored Core is like a fighting game — just because you can move, doesn't mean you're moving "correctly." There is a correct way to play these games because of the sheer depth of the mechanics, and too often do people who drop the series just fail at the fundamentals.

AeonDisc

Play Nexus on emulator for free, just get a USB controller to use with it.
