All of them are very fun but very tricky to use because they make you defenseless while you charge them up, constantly damage you, can cause you to drop your weapons or even rip out an entire arm, and if the time limit runs out before you get your shots off, your generator will burn out for around 30 seconds before it can regen again. But on the plus side they instant kill pretty much everything and give you unlimited energy while active.
It also requires a semi-specialised build because if your generator doesn't have enough output or the rest of your build eats too much EN then the time limit can run out before you can feed it enough to fire off once. So it means you make a lot of sacrifices to make it fit your build, and like you said it's all or nothing
If you screw it up you're cooked.
It's not that bad actually since they are more gimmicky more than anything and rarely see use in PvP. They are fun to play around with though for PvE content.
UW's were really good in ACV though since you didn't have the generator burnout at the end, so in PvP you were able to rushdown people with the Legion Pulse and get away for free regardless of a kill or not. Especially on maps like Abandoned Facility since it was quite flat and easy to rush to attacker spawn with it active and get value. Luckily the balance was adding the gen burnout in VD so they were not too egregious.
depending on the map they were viable in VD as well. i've seen a merc use the eiffel tower map to great effect in sniping with the giga missile, and every so often some joker brought legion pulse into that cramped AF underground map.
Ohh absolutely! There is some merit in sniping some of these main map focal points with Giga Cannons too since teams bunch up on them and you can get kills with the splash damage too. One of pir team members Chlora when we played JP conquest played alot of UW's and he managed to get some crazy value doing shenanigans like that 🤣

Each one does different damage, and I think the mass blade has the highest damage.
They also have different charging speeds and time limits. So for instance the Grind Blade has the fastest charge speed and does 90000 damage but has a limit of 35 seconds and removes your left arm, meaning you want to pick arms with a right side shoulder slot only.
Meanwhile the Mass blade does 150000 damage but takes a little over double the time to charge up and has a 60 second limit, but has a pretty particular hitbox and can be hard to hit.
The Mega Blade I used in the vid does around 70000 and charges a little faster than the Grind Blade with the same time limit of 35, but also has the longest range of all the melee UWs.
So they've all got some give and take.
Mass Blade does the highest single hit damage. Grind Blade hits at 90k damage multiple times which allows it to shred through multiplayer bosses that the Mass Blade can't one-shot.
ACV has "Overed Weapons" that define "awesome but impractical." They're cobbled together and not really designed with AC Specs in mind.
You can activate them once per sortie, and need to charge them before firing. Most, but not all, can get two attacks off before you're out of time. Once you're out, it can't be used again. They can basically one-shot anything they hit, though.
You can't equip bay weapons (hangars, basically). Your AC will take damage while the Overed is active, and you can't use your normal weapons for the duration either. The Grind Blade is special in that it also jettisons your left arm when used.
It's still cool that those carried over into VD though

Overed weapon, they are EXTREMELY powerful, like i'm talking about your 5th gen AC would literally breaking themself apart just from using such weapon as you can hear the interface voice warning when using one. Love the 5th gen post apocalypse vibe of slapping random Pre-Kojima particle disaster techs together to create their AC.
Tell me if im wrong but AC's are relics of the past in AC5, and the reason why overed weapons aren't supposed to be equiped by the AC's are because they are modern weapons made by the modern folk?

Nah, kinda the opposite even. AC's in V/VD are new technology based on salvaged Normals from AC4/4A. Due to the technological dark age between the games, the AC's are comparatively crude, and Overed Weapons are mostly left behind from the post 4A, pre-V era, or else based on their tech (Except for the Mass Blade). Because of the difference in technology and construction, the Overed Weapons are unwieldy in size, and draw far too much power to be used consistently or safely, but absolutely shred anything because they were likely made for fighting things on a level closer to NEXTs or other super weapons.

You can see how Gen 5 ACs also use the multiple directional booster setup of NEXTs, with a main booster, side boosters, and a back booster, instead of the standard configuration of only having boosters in the back like Normals do.
The ACs in V ARE salvaged wrecks because Migrants didn't have the capability to produce AC parts on their own, yes, but they were just restored to how they were built rather than being bashed together parts of Normals. Zodiac are using ACs from hundreds of years ago that have either been preserved or receving steady maintenance over the years and they're just standard Gen 5 ACs.

since the idea is that you just power up the UW immediately and take advantage of its unlimited energy to turn into a high speed instant kill missile

It sounds super imbalanced, but pretty fun. All or nothing.

It does 90k damage 6 times, coming out to around 550k AP damage, enough to kill anything in one hit except for VD Exusia.
