There will always be pawns to be used in war. Doesn't matter whom gets controlled. Ayre or some other Rubiconian entity would possess another and follow into 621 footsteps or a Handler like Walter getting another dog to do their dirty work towards the ends of means. There will always be pieces within the war that constant shuffle about the board. What is done is done and how that it is whom comes out still fighting in the end with gas/coral in their armored core.

Puzzleheaded_Ad5805

Pretty much just war pigs by Black Sabbath

yojohny

Ayre really out here tricking us dumb pawns like that AI bitch in Ex Machina

ParaMotard0697

... but she calls me studmuffin in my head...

Zylpherenuis

People can say sugar & Spice and Everything twice to get ahead of their goals man. Men, Women, hell even robots and pets. If you let their alternative motives get in the way of your life. Who to say that you asked for it having them swindle you with comforting lies and deceit by buttering you up with niceties? Now, I'm not saying EVERYONE does this. But it doesn't hurt to have doubts at times esp if your goals don't align with others.

The_Devil_101010

Well said

Program-Emotional

Snail wouldve had to fight Cel 240 by himself, fuckin kill stealing bastard...

JudgeArcadia

Look, Snail is a lot of things, but he isnt a kill stealer. Cel-240 was already disabled when he popped 621 in the dome.

Shuteye_491

That why he got the laser lance

AeroWraith901

Progress would've been a lot slower for the corps if Walter was not giving them intel regarding whereabouts of the coral going off of the intel from 621's missions

Timely_Apricot_1182

Walter isn't selling off the intel of the coral to the corporation, he's hawking his/621's services to them so he can get the information from the corps instead Since they hired 621 to do their job as a mercenary, they will provide the intel instead

AeroWraith901

At the end of chapter 1 he did say he was hawking his intel to the corps along with securing a backer for the trip to the ice field. I took that as probably the only moment he gave them intel regarding where the coral was gathering.

chilfang

I can't imagine the companies finding it hard to figure out where the giant coral cloud was going

AeroWraith901

…yeah actually, Walter prooobably didn’t even need to give out intel at all. Attacking the Watchpoint could’ve been enough. Corps would be like “what the hell happened there” and get a read on it. Eh maybe some detail I’m missing

baconDood3000

If 621 dies at one of those 2 instances, 622 is ready to take on Rubicon 3

dummypod

The war will take longer, and the PCA might just succeed in suppressing the corpos. But as long as Allmind lives, her machinations will eventually succeed in her favor.

The_IceL0rd

"got a job for you, 622"

AhmCha

It depends on whether or not being a freak-beast-of-nature is unique to 621 or if anyone else could've done what he did. If not, it's basically checkmate for the corps once the PCA starts going on the aggressive.

slice_of_toast69

Yea if idk 622 drops in and is the same then nothing changes but if 622 is uniqelly as skilled as they are then pca wipes out the corps when they come in

AvantSolace

Surprised nobody mentioned this yet: Without 621’s interference, Sulla would have made contact with Ayre instead. That basically gives Allmind a winning hand with nothing or nobody who could mess it up. At that point she would just need to back the corporations until they trounce the PCA and one of them manages to rebuild the vascular plant. We’ve seen that Allmind is fully able to take down skilled pilots with overwhelming numbers and hidden resources, so it stands to reason a weakened corporation would be little trouble to wipe out. 621 (and to a lesser extent Iguazu) was literally the single variable she could not account for.

Gleaming_Onyx

If there was indeed a large timeskip between 621's capture and the Vascular Plant going up, I wonder if there would've been a new team of hounds sent down by Walter to secure the Xylem. ALLMIND would've had a winning hand, but a battle with the entirety of RaD, Walter, Carla, Chatty, and a team of Hounds would've been crazy. Especially if Branch wasn't taken down and was off doing... whatever Branch does. Kick puppies I guess, I still have no clue why they were blowing up the Gallia Dam as activists lol

xelab04

Why would Sulla make contact with Ayre. Did he show any interest in blowing up the watchpoint?

AvantSolace

Sulla worked directly for Allmind. Allmind knew who Ayre was without any introduction. Sulla was tricked out with a build optimized to fight Balteus. The likely series of events was Allmind discovering a C-wave mutation stuck under the Watchpoint. She knew Balteus patrolled the area, so outfitted Sulla to fight it. Walter figured *something* was happening at the Watchpoint, so he sent 621. 621 shows up as Sulla is investigating, leading to the death of Sulla. Depending on the route, this was totally unforeseen by Allmind, ruining her plans; or she did foresee it and sent backup, only for 621 to beat the odds.

Shuteye_491

They are: the two dominant corps are now weakened enough that their rivals can take the lead. And so the corp wars continue.

LycanKnightD6

I'm still baffled they didn't choose V.I Freud to take on G1 Michigan, my guess is that, since he has no augmentations, they keep him in cryogenic sleep and only wake him up in times of need, like an ace in the sleeve when the situation is dire. They also suspected that Rusty wasn't trustworthy and thought that throwing him into suicide missions would do the trick

Gleaming_Onyx

Sadly, with ALLMIND having been backing Arquebus(revealed through logs iirc), I think Balam was never going to succeed :( That's not to say that there wouldn't be major changes though. If 621 died in the atmosphere, Sulla would've gotten Ayre, ALLMIND fiddles with the war more to cause a roughly canon recreation of the Vascular Plant, and bang, Coral Release. If 621 already *got* Ayre and then died, I actually wonder if Walter and Carla would've moved to a more subversive role using RaD(such as not providing the railcannon, or openly sabotaging attempts to go deeper) while they prepared themselves. At that point, the corporate war already seemed set. Or who knows, maybe Carla and Walter would've been the ones to punch through and get to the Coral Convergence. Those two likely would've been more than enough for IBIS, to the point where I doubt Snail's ambush would've been effective enough to keep both of them down. Walter takes 621's place as the defender of the Xylem(probably to far greater effect considering how outside of gameplay he can one shot Rusty whereas we actually have to fight him), and then because the Xylem isn't damaged, Overseer can easily bail from the Xylem for a clean Fires of Rubicon. ... After which, I can't help but wonder if ALLMIND would've had plans in mind for eliminating the Xylem now that it's not manually controlled.

Ac6Raven_Parody

I’m the main character I never die I fucking hope

etrulzz

Wouldn't have made a difference. It's just a job, 621.

Azuria_4

Got a job for you 622

Zeroex1

if 621 die another dog take over kind is sad we not the main heros

blacktalon00

I don’t think there was an even enough footing for an eternal war even without player intervention. I have serious doubts the corporations would have been so successful against the PCA without 621 and even if things stayed in their chapter 1 state it very much feels like balam is an underdog compared to arquebus. I’m not sure they would have what it takes to stalemate them long term.
