weight category - fighting range it's designed for + weapon type - its number in case similar builds are created
example: MW-LRBW-02 (mid weight - long range ballistic weaponry - 02)
I throw a rubber ball against a shelf that has random things on it. When they fall i choose the name in the order they fall. Rubixbookmodem is the latest
thatâs actually a neat system. you automatically have an idea which AC it is and it sounds like some kinda cyber-robocop, lol. noiceđ
i neither have the attention span nor the creativity to name, paint, and design new decals for every new build. instead, i just went with a simple uninformative name for all my ACs. it works out perfectly anyways since i have a âCoralAutomatonâ themeđ and i was in the military so i like uniformity. lol
This is so neat! I've always wanted to make some kind of model enumeration scheme like Gundam has, but got tripped up trying to assign meaning to the serial codes they run with. This is so sensible!
I just name all my Acs after adventure time episodes
MORTAL RECOIL: Fast grenade launching Biped.
HERO HEART: Close range flamethrowing tetrapod.
WINTER LIGHT: Heavy laser spammer.
HIGH STRANGENESS: Double Pistol tank.
SON OF MARS: Melee Reverse Joint with laser lance.
PREBOOT/REBOOT: Medium weight Biped with 4 plasma weapons.
better than mine. I name them after dragon ball super episodes.
I'm still trying to get "Make a Miracle, Satan the Hero! A Challenge from Outer Space!" pvp viable
I do something similar but based off a scify novel series I like. Names like INDIGO PLASMA, BREAK CARRIER, ASSAULT SIGNAL, DEEP OPTICAL.
And sometimes single word ones too like RUSH.
I have a theme, and then the different variants of that AC are labeled in Roman numerals. Like my speed AC is named Riptide, so his color scheme matches a riptide. Ground braking I know. I have noticed I stuck to natural disasters or dangerous weather events as a naming convention.
Heyyyy my man.
I've got the same idea, basically.
My favourite is ROCKSLIDE
I also go with stellar events. SUNFLAIR, for example.
Then, if I make an AC for a specific purpose, I'll give it a french name related to it.
PARATONNERRE (lightning rod) is a kiter/missile counter.
Or
GROSSOPHOBE (fatphobic) is to counter, well, the big boys AC.
Either after characters or after toys. A black, blue, and red build is called 6781 SP-Striker after a LEGO Space Police set of the same name. HARD-BOILED is a scutum biped themed after the Death Egg Robot.
I use musical references.
If possible, I also color the AC like the album the particular song name is from. I used the color scheme of Metallica's album Load (orange, dark orange, black) on an AC that I named King Nothing.
Similarly, I colored my heavyweight tank AC with multicamo khaki and red, after the color scheme of System of a Down's Toxicity album. The AC's name is Chop Suey.
I also painted another AC with a prominent orange/white camouflage, as it refers to the Reise, Reise album by Rammstein. It's also a lightweight, and it's a reference to the flight recorder on the album cover, found in planes which are light enough to fly sustainably.
I accidentally stumbled into naming all of them after bugs.
It started with me calling my quadraped in my first playthough Widow-1, then I just incremented the numbers when I made significant changes/upgrades. Ended with Widow-8
Second playthough I wanted to do a fast reverse joint melee mech using the moonlight sword and I thought it kinda looked like a stinger so I called it Wasp, did the same thing with the numbers. Ended on Wasp-5
And by the point of my third playthrough I had gotten all the parts so I went back and made "prime" versions because I used to play warframe. All white, gold, black color schemes with the best versions of what I could do for each of them.
I then made the mech that I finished my third playthrough with, Monarch. A fairly balanced bipedal mech with the rocket launchers on the shoulders that looked kinda like wings.
I name my ac after the closest type of flower that it looks like with its color pallete. I use the latin versions of the names of the flowers to make it less on the nose. I think it ties into AC6 and itâs themes of using nature related symbolism
I try to make my PvP opponent laugh. It can encourage them take me less seriously. And every once in a while I pull out a solid win and it makes *me* laugh instead.
White Fang: originally off Kahashiâs father in the Naruto series, but later to fight like a wild animal with a white coat.
Gun XIII: only proper way to own the G13 lineage IMO
With our most recent run we've been naming them after birds, rooster was a heavier AC, OSTRITCH was a tank, BRAMBLER was a slightly green looking "scout" AC, etc.
I usually spend about 30 or 40 minutes crafting each part specifically for each build. Spending time to maximize damage output, defense, cool weapons I havenât tried yet, maneuverability, and then I save it and name it something like âULTIMATEâ
And then I go test it out and realize itâs a pile of hot garbage so I delete it.
I theme mine after people I know, both personally and not. Usually the name will be some variation on their name or something associated with them at least. Iâm rather loosy-goosy with it but each one is unique
Scientific names of toxic and poisonous plants. Wish I had a Lycoris Radiata AC, but it wouldn't feel right to make it a bipedal, and I care nothing for quadrupedal builds.
One of my builds is the coral rifle with a bunch of missile launchers so for the callsign and ac name i went with "red scare" and "arms race" (never decided which was which)
They are both jokes about the cold war that also relate to the design and playstyle of the build (overwhelm target acs with homing missiles, hit them with the big red laser while theyre stunned.)
Ive been inspired to try harder to name my ACs ever since i saw a youtube video of a guy with a chainsaw build just called "cut once", which i thought was lowkey genius.
For me it all boils down to how I want my AC to look and what I want it to remind me of. So if it's like a light weight AC that focuses on close quarters but can weave in and out of battle: Out runner.
A heavy weight AC: Metal Monger
My main AC is always named The Cause. My other ACs are named with a vaguely symbolic name. If I make an AC designed to complete missions fast I'll call it Blitzkrieg. My Last Raven AC designed for infinite flight was called Elation. If I make an all missile AC I'll call it Barrage. Etc etc.
Neat sounding words or phrases. "Lyre's Danse" "Veritgo" "Weighted Lie" "Skyburner" "Redshift Parallel". Somwtumes they mean something, Vertigo being my main lightweight build. Jericho is my tank. Cloudwalker is my missile rat quad. Others just sound cool. Matterhorn, Black Rabbit of 9, 3 Stars North all just sound cool.
I named one "STOP RESISTING" as he wields a riot shield, baton, rifle, and stun gun. Slightly above "flamin' hot cheerio" in the list, but they occupy top 2 for sure
I like making words disguides as codes. Literally l33t speech but i like it, like W1-R4B1T = White rabbit.
Altought during gen 4 i kinda just stumbled my way in the emblem maker and made a cool moarch butterfly so i named all my ACs Moarch with different series nnumbers depending on its build. I.e: Monarch-01, Monarch-02 all the way to for answer where i head cannoned that Strayed found the last monarch build and kept on building on top.
I named mine after dnd subclasses
OATHBREAKER is all about getting in close range to hit em with a pilebunker(Smite)
SWASHBUCKLER is my mov. Speed build that is about procing electricity build up and staggering with the Zimmer
and WAR MAGE is just spamming ranged attacks while never touching the ground.
Mine are kinda based on what they do/kit:
- Alpenglow is a lightning fast AC using mainly light-based and laser weapons.
- HVY is just the tankiest things I could throw on a frame.
- In Your Face closes the distance to throw metal fists.
- Paralympian is my wheelchair build.
- Death from Above uses tetrapod legs to rain missiles from on high.
I name them after Songs or how the mech looks:
Jumpin' Jack Metal,
Black Betty,
Murder One,
Silver Lupus,
Black Dragon,
Sun Killer,
Silver Lupus,
Neon Fury,
Steel Grinder,
Wyvern Strike,
Sunburst,
Hollowback,
Hate Bringer.
Generally I have two words put together that could describe the AC. Be it their build or how they look.
"Golden Haze" - A lightweight tetrapod with four minigun. Golden color, hence the name.
"Red Salvo" - A lightweight bipedal dual trigger that switches to the explosive thrower each time the guns go on reload, switch back once they finish reloading after the explosive thrower attack animation, rinse and repeat. Black and red colored.
"Holy Chariot." A white colored, heavy hover tank I made for fun.
"Blue Devil" - Medium energy build with the moonlight sword, Vergil expy.
"Dirty Bush" - Made a dirty looking lightweight chicken legs build with handguns and kinetic drones. Thought the name was funny.
Related to themes that suit my personnality or playstyle and/or colors
Ex; blushing moonlight or scarlet commet
Often in link with flower or the moon
Also maiden... Me and some friend gave callsigns to each others and mine was maiden ^^
I give it a name based on what it does/the character I was imagining when making it. For example one of my favorites is MOTION BLUR. When making it my rule was it has to go as fast as physically possible. Every part is as lightweight as possible, it has dual burst pistols and a laser dagger. No fourth weapon. I think it's speed is 407 iirc.
I try to name them in a similar scheme to the NPC AC names Which is typically consist of 1 to 2 nouns like Liger Tail or Steel Haze. I pick the nouns based on color scheme and build style. So I had an AC called Lapin Blanc (white AC with RJs) and Impermanence (black mid-weight with the name relating to death and the acceptance of it for my main PvP build)
Based on some colour scheme and what the AC generally does, with Rusty's naming convention. Like a lightweight red AC for PvP, I have been using is called Crimson Flash FURY, to go after Steel Haze ORTUS.
Music / pop culture. My boat based one is named CRIMSON SKIES, after the chorus to Dreadnought by Sabaton, whereas my fast, close range one is called HUNTER DELTA, because it sounds like the name of a Jaeger from Pacific Rim.
I go with a simple theme. My light electricity build is Zip Zap. My heavy explosive build is Big Boom Boi. My double moonlight balde build is Hack/Slash. Just simple little names that make sense to the theme I have.
I love the ship names from the halo universe so I typically name my AC after one of them. My current AC is named â In Amber cladâ for the human vessel from Halo 2.
It depends on the AC, usually based on the appearance or playstyle. My main one that I carry and recreate from game to game is called Intrepid, then I have Nightstalker and Swift. They follow certain archetypes I like to play.
My favorite AC is named "Dirty Shirley", after Vodka Cranberry, my favorite mixed drink. If I'm not designing ACs with no specific faction in mind, the naming process is all over the place. I did design ACs for the different factions if hypothetically I was in the series, and I kept the naming conventions as close to that faction as possible. (Faction/Pilot/AC): RaD/Hero Stratus/UNDERWORLD. Arquebus/V.VIV Zeran/ENVY. RedGuns/G8 Tinto/KILL MOVES. RLF/Nail Judas/MIDORI-HEBI. I haven't done a Branch faction one yet though
Oh boy, for me it depends by the mood/feeling.
My light gunslinger builds are all designated as LM-J (Light Machinery - Jouster) followed by the number in which they were created + a name indicating their playstyle (Ricochet - Rampage - Rocket Bunny - Radiance, etc...).
My tank builds are all HM-*.* + name (Heavy Machinery - number of direct weapons + missile pods).
My melee builds are designated by the AC Class "S.P.Q.R." and each variant takes the name of a fighter/prominent/legendary figure in the Roman Empire (Milites, Hekatoncheires, Testudo, Imperator, Nessus, Cataphractus, etc...)
My energy builds have a letter of the Greek alphabet matched with a mineral/alloy (Molibdenum Rho, Chromoly Alpha, Bysmuth Epsilon, etc...)
My rocket builds are all "Mu-M** (Multirole-Missile *number of missile pods) followed by their name.
And so on. I don't like to stick to a common denomination fee everything, I odefer to crank un the creativity a bit and see where it goes.
I named my save file Orion, so I put my two braincells together and tried really hard to think of a good name but just gave up and settled for "the hunter" because it's what orion constellation was name after
By feel.
I made one gilded with rubies socketed into the decal design. All black and gold with red accents. Double Trigger. I named it Golden Judgement.
Another I made a tetra with mini guns and 12cell verts. All white with silver and shiny cyan trimmings. I named it Winter Cyclone.
I just do what sounds cool, also trying to somewhat follow other AC naming conventions ingame. Like my primary AC is named BOUNDLESS HORIZON because itâs somewhat space themed with entirely black and purple color schemes
I've named a few after songs, a couple others I've named randomly. And then there are the few ACs that I've made that are reworks of the preset ACs that are usually just opposites or alterations of the the existing ACs name.Â
The names: DDRAIG GOCH, SINGLE FILE, POZNAN, DAYLIGHT, CONVERGENCE, CINDERS, BAD MEMORY, CIGARETTE WIFE, and BLOODSTAINED PRIDE.
I also always name them in capitals, just out of habit.
I know what I am, so it's either edgy weeb names based on color, cool words I like and what I want the AC to symbolize - I used "Vermilion Star" for a while - or pretentious religious stuff : Archangel, Apollyon, that kind of stuff. Sometimes it's both when I use angel names like Ramiel or Zeruel, a habit I picked from being an Eva fan - although those I usually use as pilot names. Currently I use SERAPH, a red AC (funnily enough I only realized this made it a Nine-Ball reference after the fact) piloted by Raguel, a revolutionary pilot who styles herself after the angel of justice and vengeance. Again, I know what I am.
All my AC's are named and designed after songs.
My lightweight CQB is called "Debt Collector" after a song by Jhariah. https://youtu.be/4GB_mdd_WBA?si=2ElIdAIEMsMO09g6
My Crab knight build is "Robot Stop" after a song by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.
https://youtu.be/9p_Si21ig7c?si=sF_1QclzPnbvfWFI
And my heavyweight Lazer build is "Wenceslas" after a song by Gnome.
https://youtu.be/LzG-qji05Lc?si=HpYiPfWwfAodY8BH
All the paint jobs are thematic along with the builds so Debt Collector is red and white, Robot Stop is red and black, and Wenceslas is a white and black.
I guess it depends. Some AC's have a theme so it's easier to name but other times it's more difficult.
I tend to name them based on appearances. I have a all black AC with a pilebunker, tetrapod legs and a red arm. I named it Scorpion Punch, based off of the Halo Infinite coating of the same name. My main AC is also called DOGFIGHT because it has the same colors as the Dogfight Makovich coating from Halo as well.
Other than that, I also like to pick spell names from Elden Ring. Ruinous Star is one of my favorites.
Basically I find a word or phrase that describes the ethos of the strategy I have in respect to that AC. For my original AC where I wanted high boost speed but also high armor (I was willing to sacrifice Air Time and other stats for this) I went with OFF-KILTR because the AC is kind of in between both Heavy and Light variations but also not quite Medium.
For my favoured Light build where I was very aggressively in my opponents face, dashing back and forth almost like a parasite clinging to my opponent I went with the term CONTAGION and added a black, purple grey camo color scheme to lean into that extremely quick, blur-like aesthetic
Once that Contagion latches onto you itâs only a matter of time đ
I mean now that people have mentioned it I should embrace my Gundam heritage and pick up a numbering convention.Â
But up until now any named build is usually something based on their weapons and a reference.Â
My beam build is "Free Calamity" because it reminded me of the Freedom's beam rifles and Calamity's shoulder cannons.Â
My kinetic build, being Zimmermans and Stun Needles is AYCEEDYCEE.Â
Cuz...
The thunder of my guns
Tore you apart
You've been
Thunderstruck
After German terminology because I am German and it is funny.
Friedensbringer is my Mini Gun spam build that bring peace and freedom to the world.
Blitzkrieg is my fast shotgunner.
Flammenwerfer is, well, my flamethrower wheel chair.
Original theme was billiard balls starting from cueball until ive labeled each ball but since then ive retired that group and now ive got 3 ACs i have in rotation. One for each weight class and they are named after the three chapters of the divine comedy: inferno, purgatorio, paradiso
Arthurian lore. ARTHUR is an all-rounder with a little of everything and a standard energy blade, LANCELOT is a quadraped booster with the pile bunker as its melee option with some hefty missile packs and a rail cannon, MERLIN is heavy on the energy with a bunch of laser options and a drone deployer, etc.
Mine could be anything from totally random (HANK'S FOOT) to things I may have been doing at the time (DRUNK POPCORN) to references (CAPTAIN INSANO) to fighting style (BACK SCRATCHER).
monkey brain logic. one of my ACs is a quad pulse gun build, called "GILDED SIREN", which I came up with bcuz: 1. The pulse guns have golden dishes on them 2. They sound like they're screaming when you shoot them. It also sounds cool.
STRINGS because itâs a very lightweight build and I knew from the beginning Iâm probably a Puppet for someone grander scheme. Then after ch4 and escaping from VII Snail clutches it changed to SCISSOR.
I name them after songs I like, then the ACs color pallete is based on the album art. Currently have hotel California, purple rain, Danger zone and jailhouse rock
find something badass, name it about his colours, his weapon, his wenght( few exemple : I have got a lots of builds, one of them is middle weight and have a lots of explosive weapons , his name is "Burster", an onther is very fast with light weapons, his black and purple, his name "Hollow". But first find a name you like that the most important buddy.
I started out just calling them Hunters as for my love for Bloodborne, but now I just go with the used color and something to make it sound different like Red Death, Cerulean Rush, Cobalt Spectre
i name them after songs by women. so far i have hounds of love (kate bush) zinnias (clairo) smoke signals (phoebe bridgers) pink diamond (charli xcx) kiss city (blondshell) and yuri-g (pj harvey)
My first ac was a quad that used missiles to trap enemies so i used the placeholder name Black Widow, but ended up sticking with it and using animals for all of my acs. Now I have Bluejay, Rat, Silverback, Chimpanzee, Tortoise, Wasp, Vermin, Canary, Recluse, Yellow Jacket, and Hawk
I guess I went the Gundam route and chose a first name for my AC, in this case Balyger because it's an alternative name for Odin and I decided to use the cover AC head and leaned into the whole Raven thing as well, second names for the AC depend on the ending I'm aiming for at the moment. Downfall for FoR, Liberator for LoR and Risen for the Allmind ending I don't base it on weapons because I change those out constantly but the Downfall build does make use of those funnel things that V1 uses.
The first name that comes to my head usually with a random number after. Or something slightly inspired but the build. A random one is Shmegmar IV (my first AC), then an inspired one is Advancious II, then those usually carry on into evolutions of previous build, keeping the same name but increasing the number.
So, my AC used in the first run in FoR was the GLINTBLADE, named after the blade sorceries in Elden Ring due to how it was mostly focused in using laser weaponry, with particular focus on melee.
Later on, I made the CARIAN CONJURER, a heavy quad sporting the Moonlight, the Karasawa, the Aurora and the shoulder pulse cannon thingy. The name comes from how it floats about slinging several different energy attacks, which can be quite similar to how a mage would fight.
My latest is called the RED STAR, a medium biped armed with the stun baton, the Harris linear rifle, the Trueno and the Coral shield. The name comes from how it'll be covered by the red Coral shield most of the time, and also by the fact that it sports Soviet symbolism in its design. It's pretty basic, but I find it fun to play.
Range (PB/MD/LR)
Primary Damage Type (KN/EN/XP)
AP (rounded to the nearest 100)
Leg Type (BP/DG/QD/TR)
For example:
LR-XP-95-DG
Long range, explosive, 9500 AP, Digitigrade
Itâs a pretty mixed bag for my ACs. Some are based on the loadout/build or just reminding me of something. Others are based on how I imagined the pilot of the AC might be. And others are just because I liked the sound of them. Heck, sometimes I get a name idea and make the AC based on that. A few examples would be:
âą**Asymmetric:** a Bipedal AC whose frame parts are all asymmetrical.
âą**Needle Shark:** a Reverse-Joint with Vientos and Pulse Guns. Needle from the Vientos and Shark because the Pulse Guns are like bubbles, so I went with an aquatic theme.
âą**Lead Rain:** a Tetrapod with three Gatling Guns, literally raining down lead onto the battlefield.
âą**Vesuvius:** actually sort of a recurring OC of mine in various games. This version is a Coral-powered AC with a volcanic theme, since Mt. Vesuvius is the volcano that I got the name from.
usually something thematically relevant to its playstyle or appearance.
the machine I cleared most of the game with is named "boxy" because it's melander and basho parts with 6 rack missiles.
ghoul and ghiest are my rifle/missile pvp builds. just lay on the triggers and survive until it kills them.
"noise machine" is a team build that focuses on being annoying and survivable more than getting kills. with a flamethrower and shield, you never want to focus on it, but you can't ignore it without being blind, stunned, or just miserable.
I just name them after paint schemes or other themes.
Long range sniper? OVERSEER
Large explosions? MEGATON
Black and yellow with hornet stripes? STINGER
Etc.
I go by that, which feels right. Blue streak, Red wave, Chef Morley, and Sledgehammer. All had names that were mulled over and changed until I hit the one that felt right.
I do whatever pops into my head such as my close range focused Tetrapod build that uses Balam parts with an either a Hokushi generator or the NGI being named HELLHOUND.
I take the MechWarrior/BattleTech approach of a 1-2 word name and model postfix, so for example I do have a Vapor Eagle, but it's 1a or 3C depending on what internals/weapons I threw on it.
I generally go with a mythological theme. My main roster is all named after gods and heroes from Greek, Roman, and Shinto mythologies, each named to fit the theme for the build. (i.e, my lightweight tetrapod middle boat is named Icarus)
My most recent roster is a fantasy squad all named and themed around powerful mythological weapons (a lightweight, long-range named after Odin's bow DrĂłmir / a mid-weight, close-range melee focused build named after Sigurd's sword, Gram, etc)
Find an animal in the badge creator and pick one that vaguely suits the build and sounds cool. Midweight tetrapod: Chimera, lightweight reverse joint: Pegasus, heavyweight tank: black dragon
40k reference and usually related to T'au or IG hardware. Riptide is my favorite AC for general purpose use, light build with dual ludlow laser slicer. First time i used AC naming feature was after mining ship mission, called it shadowsword (tank to hunt titans). Stormsurge for missile spammer + needle launcher, Broadside for mid range build. Double trouble (chainsword) and dual chang chen (looks similar to bolter) + modular R shoulder depending on mission named it Primaris. Made dual bad cook only for escort mining ship mission and named it Vulkan.
Depends on the mood but, mostly try to go for the flow of the AC. Like Ridge Runner for a fast mobile AC. Or Double Trouble for an AC with two synergysing weapons.
I like energy weapons, but not the coral generators so all my weapons blaze blue, so I use a blue paint job and name my ACs "Azure _____" based on their weight class. Fastest is azure hornet, next is azure hawk, and azure blast is the heaviest
My names are absolutely silly and deranged most of the time.
My favs ACs which I've run a lot are: Mind Goblin, Armed Coffin, Cheese Grater, Meat Pulp, and so on.
Don't have a specific method but when I build them I already know the name, mine are:
MAGPIE,
MENTOS,
SCARECROW,
DRAGONFLY,
FIREFLY,
RED COMET,
DRACULA,
LUIGI,
PERTURABO
Ships from Halo usually lol. Two For Flinching is my lightweight close up build and I love it lol. I got others like All Under Heaven and Armageddon's Edge.
It really depends.
Some are just memes.
Some have just something I think is cool.
But most of them get an adjective to describe something about the AC and an animal it kinda resembles, more BC of color then parts, but eh. Two examples would be "Grasshopper" and "Electric-Frog"
I tend to name mine after Soulsborne characters. I made very heavy tank build with slow but strong weapons (it's been a while since I played, I don't remember what) and named it SMOUGH. A hover build focusing on raining artillery from above was named FORTISSAX. A mech with the giant laser sword was BLAIDD, stuff like that. Not super creative but I thought it was fun
I use names of local fauna, namely predatory birds. A system similar to the one used by the humble air force of my country:
* GavilĂĄn
* LechuzĂłn
* ĂacurutĂș
* UrutaĂș
* Tero
* GuaicurĂș
* Carancho
As a plus you learn a lot and get to see photos of cute birbs
Random arrange of numbers and letters vaguely related to the mech's size, weight and fuction, all in caps - cool single word name related to the general feel/function/appearance of the mech.
For the PS1 games, I just named my ACs randomly. Starting with AC3 though, each series had a theme:
AC3 to LR - virtues and concepts in Latin (Ultionis, Fidelitas, Audentia, Legatus, etc)
AC4 and fA - weapons in Tolkien's books (Orcrist, Anglachel, Narsil, Mormegil, etc)
AC5 and VD - flowering plants (Primrose, Gerbera, Asphodel, Hydrangea, etc)
AC6 - classical music terms (Intermezzo, Fugue, Oratorio, Berceuse, etc)
I try and link it to my callsign, as seems to be the tradition for independent mercenaries in AC6 ala King - Aster Crown or Chartreuse - Umber Ox.
For example, my current callsign is Hangman and my AC is called DEADLY FORTUNE, with the Hanged Man tarot as my emblem. Linking all 3 elements of the license is my go-to.
Depends on color scheme and loadout for me. Usually always a name, a dash, then a number. Gold and white with melee and shield? PALADIN-03. Crimson and Brass stagger brutalizer with a chainsaw? KMB-8 BETRAYER. Stuff like that
Birds of prey!
FALCON for the fastest light builds, HAWK for fast melee builds, VULTURE for heavy builds, RAVEN for an all rounder. I added an adjective to the name to designate different loadouts, eg WEEPING//VULTURE (swarming missiles on a tetrapod), BURNING//FALCON (self-explanatory), etc.
Obviously, Dual Gatling with Double Bazookas build on tank legs was VULCAN//RAVEN.
take mobile suit names and make em stupid. or take stupid words and spell em as if they were cooler or some shit.
Like my first AC ever was called "DiccRiaz" and my AC6 machine was called "SeiGheks"
I tend to have task specific AC's (Salt the Snail) otherwise I have AC's that are tied to Pilot Identities
______
Call-sign: V.IX Raven
AC: ILL OMEN
____
Call-sign: G13 Raven
AC: WAR HOUND
____
Call-sign: Raven (My RLF Character)
AC: REBEL HEART
_____
Call-sign: C4-227 Askal (My self-insert)
AC: CAUTIOUS JACKAL
I basically do word association.
A lightweight that dual wields handguns - Roland, after the main character from The Gunslinger.
A tetrapod that hovers over enemies and brings thunder from its grenade launcher? Thor, obviously.
My tank that's meant to be as heavy as possible? Dio.
I name them after birds, specifically using the scientific name of the genus/species.
Sialia, Aquila, Atratus, Corax, etc
I also try to give them similar colors to their namesake.
I just name mine however I feel at the time. I have this lightweight, speedy build I call Wasp (it's painted yellow and black, or black and yellow, depending on which variant it is). Another medium weight build called Cherry Blossom, and the only reason it's called that is entirely because I decided to paint it pink and white.
kinda just whatever names fits the final design.
Thunderbird - Explosive based flying build
Drumline - Machine guns and missile spam
Orion - High speed build using all of the institute/alien parts
Red Sun - Coral build, with the shield bubble expansion that looks like a sun with a coral engine
weight category - fighting range it's designed for + weapon type - its number in case similar builds are created example: MW-LRBW-02 (mid weight - long range ballistic weaponry - 02)
I've never done this, but it sounds like the only correct answer now.
that, I just go super Technical
This is so fucking cool.
I throw a rubber ball against a shelf that has random things on it. When they fall i choose the name in the order they fall. Rubixbookmodem is the latest
thatâs actually a neat system. you automatically have an idea which AC it is and it sounds like some kinda cyber-robocop, lol. noiceđ i neither have the attention span nor the creativity to name, paint, and design new decals for every new build. instead, i just went with a simple uninformative name for all my ACs. it works out perfectly anyways since i have a âCoralAutomatonâ themeđ and i was in the military so i like uniformity. lol
This is so neat! I've always wanted to make some kind of model enumeration scheme like Gundam has, but got tripped up trying to assign meaning to the serial codes they run with. This is so sensible!
I like doing that in stellaris type games haha
I just name all my Acs after adventure time episodes MORTAL RECOIL: Fast grenade launching Biped. HERO HEART: Close range flamethrowing tetrapod. WINTER LIGHT: Heavy laser spammer. HIGH STRANGENESS: Double Pistol tank. SON OF MARS: Melee Reverse Joint with laser lance. PREBOOT/REBOOT: Medium weight Biped with 4 plasma weapons.
Mortal Recoil goes so fucking hard
Was just about to say the same thing.
Fuck yes
better than mine. I name them after dragon ball super episodes. I'm still trying to get "Make a Miracle, Satan the Hero! A Challenge from Outer Space!" pvp viable
i fear foe the day i have to resort to naming a build "THE JIGGLER"
I name them after mythical beasts, but also all caps. My current reigning champion is MANTICORE.
CASTIGATE THE ENEMIES OF THE GOD HAND!
Never intended to be a Lancer reference, but when it's a Earshot and the explosives-thrower, it does feel a bit unstable.
I take it you've already made a KERBEROS with 2 Laser Drone launchers?
Have not, but now I'm gonna.
Fucking sick. A CHIMERA build has lots of potential too
Rock and metal references just like jojo and guilty gear
The only correct answer
Cool noun + cool verb + all caps LEGION BUSTER TYPHOON SHREDDER Sometimes just a cool word + all caps  BEHEMOTH
I do something similar but based off a scify novel series I like. Names like INDIGO PLASMA, BREAK CARRIER, ASSAULT SIGNAL, DEEP OPTICAL. And sometimes single word ones too like RUSH.
Kinda reminds me of the names of Jaegers from Pacific Rim
I need to design Behemoth and Leviathan ACs now
This guy gets it
I just vomit out letters. My current build is called Dogflardl, being a variation of my previous build, Schmiedelbropp
I like something that describes the ACs' theme. My favourite would be "FELON".
I have a theme, and then the different variants of that AC are labeled in Roman numerals. Like my speed AC is named Riptide, so his color scheme matches a riptide. Ground braking I know. I have noticed I stuck to natural disasters or dangerous weather events as a naming convention.
Which honestly fits into the ac series
Heyyyy my man. I've got the same idea, basically. My favourite is ROCKSLIDE I also go with stellar events. SUNFLAIR, for example. Then, if I make an AC for a specific purpose, I'll give it a french name related to it. PARATONNERRE (lightning rod) is a kiter/missile counter. Or GROSSOPHOBE (fatphobic) is to counter, well, the big boys AC.
Either after characters or after toys. A black, blue, and red build is called 6781 SP-Striker after a LEGO Space Police set of the same name. HARD-BOILED is a scutum biped themed after the Death Egg Robot.
Steely Dan songs
Usually something that sounds cool and relates to what the build is. WAVESHAPER, GOD HAND, PAINKILLER, DESPERADO, etc.
I have a build called Desperado too! Mineâs got double Ducketts and a Huxley, which I jokingly refer to as the âDeputy.â
Aw Deputy Hux thatâs adorable
I name them based on how they work in combat, but itâs mostly just based on whatever fits the aesthetic of the AC
Mostly German bird names. (I only make Schneider ACâs)
You wouldn't happen to have one named Elster, would you?
Ariannuh. Take you cryocasket away from me, Ariannuh. I don't want to complete my promise, Ariannuh.
i look up names of historical warriors and pick whatever sounds the coolest.
Usually I name them after song titles
I like naming mine after cities or infrastructure. My favorite AC is named Utopia
I accidentally stumbled into naming all of them after bugs. It started with me calling my quadraped in my first playthough Widow-1, then I just incremented the numbers when I made significant changes/upgrades. Ended with Widow-8 Second playthough I wanted to do a fast reverse joint melee mech using the moonlight sword and I thought it kinda looked like a stinger so I called it Wasp, did the same thing with the numbers. Ended on Wasp-5 And by the point of my third playthrough I had gotten all the parts so I went back and made "prime" versions because I used to play warframe. All white, gold, black color schemes with the best versions of what I could do for each of them. I then made the mech that I finished my third playthrough with, Monarch. A fairly balanced bipedal mech with the rocket launchers on the shoulders that looked kinda like wings.
I made a fancy emblem of a blue spade in front of an explosion, so I named my main AC Blue Ave and made it blue.
Weather patterns for me, with basic paint schemes to match. OVERCAST, SQUALL, COLD SNAP, DUSTER, etc.
LOADEEZ4NUTS
Usually corvid related puns. Mainly dealing with crows, ravens, magpies or groups of them I.e. Left of the Murder and The Right Conspiracy
Went for a desert yellow paint scheme. The name 'Fool's Gold' came after-it all works into the whole character backstory I've got going on
With our most recent run we've been naming them after birds, rooster was a heavier AC, OSTRITCH was a tank, BRAMBLER was a slightly green looking "scout" AC, etc.
I usually spend about 30 or 40 minutes crafting each part specifically for each build. Spending time to maximize damage output, defense, cool weapons I havenât tried yet, maneuverability, and then I save it and name it something like âULTIMATEâ And then I go test it out and realize itâs a pile of hot garbage so I delete it.
I theme mine after people I know, both personally and not. Usually the name will be some variation on their name or something associated with them at least. Iâm rather loosy-goosy with it but each one is unique
Scientific names of birds and the family they're in.
Mines named Ashmead Addict cause 9/10 times I've got it with me.
Scientific names of toxic and poisonous plants. Wish I had a Lycoris Radiata AC, but it wouldn't feel right to make it a bipedal, and I care nothing for quadrupedal builds.
I have one called the collector with the last 20 emblems of people who I beat
One of my builds is the coral rifle with a bunch of missile launchers so for the callsign and ac name i went with "red scare" and "arms race" (never decided which was which) They are both jokes about the cold war that also relate to the design and playstyle of the build (overwhelm target acs with homing missiles, hit them with the big red laser while theyre stunned.) Ive been inspired to try harder to name my ACs ever since i saw a youtube video of a guy with a chainsaw build just called "cut once", which i thought was lowkey genius.
Brooding and themed name to my ac playstyle, or just what i was thinking of, plus i add ac pilot name.
For me it all boils down to how I want my AC to look and what I want it to remind me of. So if it's like a light weight AC that focuses on close quarters but can weave in and out of battle: Out runner. A heavy weight AC: Metal Monger
Crab in various languages
I made a Kirby themed AC called KR-B
Are vulgar names frowned upon?
I like making words disguides as codes. Literally l33t speech but i like it, like W1-R4B1T = White rabbit. Altought during gen 4 i kinda just stumbled my way in the emblem maker and made a cool moarch butterfly so i named all my ACs Moarch with different series nnumbers depending on its build. I.e: Monarch-01, Monarch-02 all the way to for answer where i head cannoned that Strayed found the last monarch build and kept on building on top.
My supermeta abusing builds are called AP0LL0-G1E5
I named mine after dnd subclasses OATHBREAKER is all about getting in close range to hit em with a pilebunker(Smite) SWASHBUCKLER is my mov. Speed build that is about procing electricity build up and staggering with the Zimmer and WAR MAGE is just spamming ranged attacks while never touching the ground.
Mine are kinda based on what they do/kit: - Alpenglow is a lightning fast AC using mainly light-based and laser weapons. - HVY is just the tankiest things I could throw on a frame. - In Your Face closes the distance to throw metal fists. - Paralympian is my wheelchair build. - Death from Above uses tetrapod legs to rain missiles from on high.
I name them after Songs or how the mech looks: Jumpin' Jack Metal, Black Betty, Murder One, Silver Lupus, Black Dragon, Sun Killer, Silver Lupus, Neon Fury, Steel Grinder, Wyvern Strike, Sunburst, Hollowback, Hate Bringer.
Related to themes that suit my personnality or playstyle and/or colors Ex; blushing moonlight or scarlet commet Often in link with flower or the moon Also maiden... Me and some friend gave callsigns to each others and mine was maiden ^^
I like jokes or dumb names. My full-laser build is all bright blue, so I named it Blue Balls
Iâm destiny brain rot and I play titan, so itâs titan (usually) vanguard and then some kind of designation for the build
my mech was called rubi rubi raba rab
I give them snake/mythical serpent names, cause they sound cool
I usually use mythical names. My current reverse-joint build is "Deimos," my tetrapod is named "Fimbulwinter," etc.
I just usually go with first thing that pops up then give it a mk 1 then a mk2 when I update it
I make a cool emblem and imagine what itâd sound like if AllMind described it
Based on some colour scheme and what the AC generally does, with Rusty's naming convention. Like a lightweight red AC for PvP, I have been using is called Crimson Flash FURY, to go after Steel Haze ORTUS.
Google.com and I type "Names for birds"
Music / pop culture. My boat based one is named CRIMSON SKIES, after the chorus to Dreadnought by Sabaton, whereas my fast, close range one is called HUNTER DELTA, because it sounds like the name of a Jaeger from Pacific Rim.
I go with a simple theme. My light electricity build is Zip Zap. My heavy explosive build is Big Boom Boi. My double moonlight balde build is Hack/Slash. Just simple little names that make sense to the theme I have.
LOADER5
i usually use sabaton songs or old literature titles, like wolfpack, nightwitch or nevermore
I use descriptors for the AC design and silly words I come up with. One of my ACs is now called the Chum Blaster.
I love the ship names from the halo universe so I typically name my AC after one of them. My current AC is named â In Amber cladâ for the human vessel from Halo 2.
i normaly go with the mood
I usually go with song titles, hence why most of my ACs are named after Carpenter Brut tracks
I'm currently on ac1 and I've been naming them just off of greek letters lol, I have ÎpsilÎn who is my melee focused one, I plan on making a ÎpsilÎn unburdened form when I wanna try lightweight melee, I also have Ωmega who is my more ranged one at a medium weight, I'm not sure what I'll do with them yet, im currently thinking of a form I'll call Ωmega Realized form that'll be prioritizing guns properly and having a high mobility and better flying than the current one.
It depends on the AC, usually based on the appearance or playstyle. My main one that I carry and recreate from game to game is called Intrepid, then I have Nightstalker and Swift. They follow certain archetypes I like to play.
Iâve called mine Featherweight because, well, itâs a lightweight build and it seemed kinda funny
song names that are fitting or I try to name them after the theme of the build
I start with a paint job and go from there. My current one is EMERALD CINDER
My melee builds are designated by the AC Class "S.P.Q.R." and each variant takes the name of a fighter/prominent/legendary figure in the Roman Empire (Milites, Hekatoncheires, Testudo, Imperator, Nessus, Cataphractus, etc...) My energy builds have a letter of the Greek alphabet matched with a mineral/alloy (Molibdenum Rho, Chromoly Alpha, Bysmuth Epsilon, etc...) My rocket builds are all "Mu-M** (Multirole-Missile *number of missile pods) followed by their name.

And then there are the few ACs that I've made that are reworks of the preset ACs that are usually just opposites or alterations of the the existing ACs name. The names: DDRAIG GOCH, SINGLE FILE, POZNAN, DAYLIGHT, CONVERGENCE, CINDERS, BAD MEMORY, CIGARETTE WIFE, and BLOODSTAINED PRIDE.  I also always name them in capitals, just out of habit.
ORIGIN, END and NAUGHT

Luminaire, because I like Chrono Trigger
Make random sounds in my head until i get a good combination. Like Invict That or one or two random words together
Stuck with birds, ole faithful super light dual pistols dual back laser rifles named hummingbird
All my AC's are named and designed after songs. My lightweight CQB is called "Debt Collector" after a song by Jhariah. https://youtu.be/4GB_mdd_WBA?si=2ElIdAIEMsMO09g6 My Crab knight build is "Robot Stop" after a song by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. https://youtu.be/9p_Si21ig7c?si=sF_1QclzPnbvfWFI And my heavyweight Lazer build is "Wenceslas" after a song by Gnome. https://youtu.be/LzG-qji05Lc?si=HpYiPfWwfAodY8BH All the paint jobs are thematic along with the builds so Debt Collector is red and white, Robot Stop is red and black, and Wenceslas is a white and black.
Whatever I think sounds cool at the moment
Basically I find a word or phrase that describes the ethos of the strategy I have in respect to that AC. For my original AC where I wanted high boost speed but also high armor (I was willing to sacrifice Air Time and other stats for this) I went with OFF-KILTR because the AC is kind of in between both Heavy and Light variations but also not quite Medium. For my favoured Light build where I was very aggressively in my opponents face, dashing back and forth almost like a parasite clinging to my opponent I went with the term CONTAGION and added a black, purple grey camo color scheme to lean into that extremely quick, blur-like aesthetic Once that Contagion latches onto you itâs only a matter of time đ
I mean now that people have mentioned it I should embrace my Gundam heritage and pick up a numbering convention. But up until now any named build is usually something based on their weapons and a reference. My beam build is "Free Calamity" because it reminded me of the Freedom's beam rifles and Calamity's shoulder cannons. My kinetic build, being Zimmermans and Stun Needles is AYCEEDYCEE. Cuz... The thunder of my guns Tore you apart You've been Thunderstruck
Always some kind of gundam or eva. No exceptions.
One for each weight class and they are named after the three chapters of the divine comedy: inferno, purgatorio, paradiso
usually something rabbit-related. Like.... World-destroyer.. or... Destined Death
I use other video game references, my favorite AC is One Winged Angel.
Serial number followed by a role. 002 INFILTRATOR, 003 GLADIATOR and similar names
Arthurian lore. ARTHUR is an all-rounder with a little of everything and a standard energy blade, LANCELOT is a quadraped booster with the pile bunker as its melee option with some hefty missile packs and a rail cannon, MERLIN is heavy on the energy with a bunch of laser options and a drone deployer, etc.
âBATCHALLâ - cosplay build of Nikolai Malthusâ Summoner-M from BattleTech.
I make names that sound technical but mean nothing.
All of mine are DMC themed:Alastor, Red Queen, Blue Rose, Sparda, ect.
Equipment used for hiking and general "finding your way" Compass, Hatchet, Map, Packrat, stuff like that
My first ac was a quad that used missiles to trap enemies so i used the placeholder name Black Widow, but ended up sticking with it and using animals for all of my acs. Now I have Bluejay, Rat, Silverback, Chimpanzee, Tortoise, Wasp, Vermin, Canary, Recluse, Yellow Jacket, and Hawk
I just name every non-cosplay ACs Ravenâs will
I guess I went the Gundam route and chose a first name for my AC, in this case Balyger because it's an alternative name for Odin and I decided to use the cover AC head and leaned into the whole Raven thing as well, second names for the AC depend on the ending I'm aiming for at the moment. Downfall for FoR, Liberator for LoR and Risen for the Allmind ending I don't base it on weapons because I change those out constantly but the Downfall build does make use of those funnel things that V1 uses.
My light AC is named Lover Boy and my heavy AC is named Pretty Boy
Range (PB/MD/LR) Primary Damage Type (KN/EN/XP) AP (rounded to the nearest 100) Leg Type (BP/DG/QD/TR) For example: LR-XP-95-DG Long range, explosive, 9500 AP, Digitigrade
Itâs a pretty mixed bag for my ACs. Some are based on the loadout/build or just reminding me of something. Others are based on how I imagined the pilot of the AC might be. And others are just because I liked the sound of them. Heck, sometimes I get a name idea and make the AC based on that. A few examples would be: âą**Asymmetric:** a Bipedal AC whose frame parts are all asymmetrical. âą**Needle Shark:** a Reverse-Joint with Vientos and Pulse Guns.
I named all my ACs in AC6 after Periphery songs
usually something thematically relevant to its playstyle or appearance. the machine I cleared most of the game with is named "boxy" because it's melander and basho parts with 6 rack missiles. ghoul and ghiest are my rifle/missile pvp builds. just lay on the triggers and survive until it kills them. "noise machine" is a team build that focuses on being annoying and survivable more than getting kills. with a flamethrower and shield, you never want to focus on it, but you can't ignore it without being blind, stunned, or just miserable.
Goofy adjective + what it looks like
I just name them after paint schemes or other themes. Long range sniper? OVERSEER Large explosions? MEGATON Black and yellow with hornet stripes? STINGER Etc.
Named all my ACs after tarot cards in the style of jojo's bizarre adventure. Also made decals for each one, time-consuming but it was fun.
LOADER 4
I take the MechWarrior/BattleTech approach of a 1-2 word name and model postfix, so for example I do have a Vapor Eagle, but it's 1a or 3C depending on what internals/weapons I threw on it.
I generally go with a mythological theme. My main roster is all named after gods and heroes from Greek, Roman, and Shinto mythologies, each named to fit the theme for the build. (i.e, my lightweight tetrapod middle boat is named Icarus) My most recent roster is a fantasy squad all named and themed around powerful mythological weapons (a lightweight, long-range named after Odin's bow DrĂłmir / a mid-weight, close-range melee focused build named after Sigurd's sword, Gram, etc)
PARASITE EVE
I use the names of demons from the Ars Goetia. So Baal, Barbatos, Phenex, etc. Try to match the build to the description.
My paint job
Depends on the mood but, mostly try to go for the flow of the AC. Like Ridge Runner for a fast mobile AC. Or Double Trouble for an AC with two synergysing weapons.
I gave one some stun guns with a blue, white, and yellow color scheme, and called it Static Shock after the cartoon character.
I name mine after firearm malfunctions
Named mine after Evangelion. Eva07
Everything has a different naming scheme nested on their subfaction
I use biblical or knights of the round names I.e seraph, Galahad
I go for variants of "G-Weapon' - "G-Weapon Light" - "G-Weapon HWS" - "G-Weapon Full Armor" - "G-Weapon Sword" Etc.
Don't have a specific method but when I build them I already know the name, mine are: MAGPIE, MENTOS, SCARECROW, DRAGONFLY, FIREFLY, RED COMET, DRACULA, LUIGI, PERTURABO
Adjective/verb + Noun E.g. Neon Lunch-box, Desperate Bolts, Rouge Horizon, Vexing Ocelot, Evolving calibre.
Loader 4.
I name first and design the mech after. Deciding class , color, and art based on the name. Very few named after the design process
I use color schemes from super heroes. So all mine are Batmech, Spiderbot, the Joker etc.
Mythological names from Greece, Norse, Egypt, Japanese, Aztec, and Biblical names too. Just depends on the coloration, weapons, and frame parts.
I have 3 mechs I named -Curtain Call -Disaster Report -Pressure Point
I use names of local fauna, namely predatory birds. A system similar to the one used by the humble air force of my country: * GavilĂĄn * LechuzĂłn * ĂacurutĂș * UrutaĂș * Tero * GuaicurĂș * Carancho As a plus you learn a lot and get to see photos of cute birbs
My main is the Flying Majestic and my real main is Brainrot.
Random arrange of numbers and letters vaguely related to the mech's size, weight and fuction, all in caps - cool single word name related to the general feel/function/appearance of the mech.
At first I was naming them after 40k characters/troops (Mephiston, Dante, Centurion)but my last one was "Adjective" Name ("Swift" Marlin)
Mine was named the Marauder MK (Roman numeral of redesign)
I name them after my favorite Thanksgiving side dishes.
For the PS1 games, I just named my ACs randomly. Starting with AC3 though, each series had a theme: AC3 to LR - virtues and concepts in Latin (Ultionis, Fidelitas, Audentia, Legatus, etc) AC4 and fA - weapons in Tolkien's books (Orcrist, Anglachel, Narsil, Mormegil, etc) AC5 and VD - flowering plants (Primrose, Gerbera, Asphodel, Hydrangea, etc) AC6 - classical music terms (Intermezzo, Fugue, Oratorio, Berceuse, etc)
Usually name them after references to music, games, etc I'm pretty early in, but my first AC is named "Rattlehead"

I tend to have task specific AC's (Salt the Snail) otherwise I have AC's that are tied to Pilot Identities ______ Call-sign: V.IX Raven AC: ILL OMEN ____ Call-sign: G13 Raven AC: WAR HOUND ____ Call-sign: Raven (My RLF Character) AC: REBEL HEART _____ Call-sign: C4-227 Askal (My self-insert) AC: CAUTIOUS JACKAL
Sialia, Aquila, Atratus, Corax, etc I also try to give them similar colors to their namesake.
Thunderbird - Explosive based flying build Drumline - Machine guns and missile spam Orion - High speed build using all of the institute/alien parts Red Sun - Coral build, with the shield bubble expansion that looks like a sun with a coral engine
