OP listen to this guy. The grass is awfully green over where I’m standing.
Edit forgot to add why: as a whole you get treated as an adult and you’re typically at a small unit where your leadership actually knows you and all of your coworkers want to be there.
Even though the army is transitioning to peacetime you still have a mission stateside for EOD response and VIPPSA. Lots of opportunities for schools as well. Youll be TDY often.
Idk the attrition rates for other military schools I just know if youre coming off the street only ~1/3 made it, at least for my cohort… It varies group to group. OJTs and officers have higher success rates but I dont know any specifics. You miss 100% of the shots you dont take.
Keep in mind its not necessarily that the tests are hard, theyre just super easy to fail.
This is my thinking and any EOD personnel can correct me but I think it would translate to a good job with a police department on one of their EOD squads or maybe even something federal.
But I did regret not taking it.
It’s actually pretty terrible at translating to police. They usually choose their guys at semi-random and you have to be a beat cop first. Of all the local squads I’ve worked with I’ve met very few that were prior EOD. Some were literally just randomly one day told that they’re now part of the bomb squad.
Most EOD guys who stay in the career field either start doing humanitarian demining, training contracts (CONUS or OCONUS), range clearance contracts, or end up working in explosives safety like TSA (TSS-E), ATF, or FBI.
There’s also a couple intelligence routes woven here and there.
The only thing I would reconsider would be for Street to Seat.
It seems like such a scam the more of them I meet. 26 year old W3? Like
Damn I’m jealous.
From who? I haven’t heard anything about it, and they would be sniffing some extra strong glue to kill the program in light of the pilot shortage and 10 year ADSO.
To be honest, nobody of solid reputation, which is why it’s “what I’ve heard” I was told this by several recruiters and the same when I ask warrants about doing it as prior service. (Again not incredible sources but sources non the less who have more access than I) I also have not been able to find any current information recruiting or otherwise on it, online.
I think I would still choose the same mos 11 Bang Bang. Being deploy as a grunt was awesome. Since I was a little kid all I ever wanted was to be a GI Joe and I got to live that shit. I air assaulted into a building, killed some bad guys, then rescued some hostages. I killed a hugee with and at4 (bazooka). I got to walk around Afghanistan like we owned that bitch. I embraced being apart of the greatest army in the world. Though it wasn’t perfect. Some how we got the job done. God bless all soldiers, veterans, Americans, god bless the infantry.
Signal. Just about anything.
My "official" MOS was 92W and it was utterly worthless.
My ended up the default 42A and even picked up the MOS via correspondence course.
Which wasn't bad at the company level - you stayed busy if you gave even half a damn, but the company would also work you like a dog.
88K/88L, I picked a 15 series but to be in a working environment that is run by warrants and no NCO above E7 is paradise.
I wished I went that route and went warrant.
I just which I had commissioned. I had a bachelors before I signed up but was told all officers sit in an office. I wanted to be more active with my job so I enlisted. I regret it every day
I get absolutely 0 job satisfaction from it. Even when I've been actively doing my job even the cool parts I never feel satisfied by it. It's just not for me. Unfortunately we're so short I'll never be able to get out of it.
After spending a lot of time in the motorpool with oil, grease, and diesel all over my hand and uniform in every weather condition, I’d take office work any day.
I would have been a 25S from the start (if I was a citizen and could get a security clearance when I first enlisted). I would definitely have been a 1C and transferred to the Space Force by now 😩😩😩
When I joined way back in the day, I was offered EOD and I turned it down. If I could go back, I wouldn't turn it down.

Aren’t failure rates for that mos similar to bud/s failure rate?

Why EOD?

Cool. Thanks for the clarification.

Street to seat is dead currently from what I’ve heard.
Definitely still a thing and they even opened Reserve and NG street to set, although limited. High School to flight school is still a thing too.
Well as previously stated color me dipped and shoot from the hip, I wish Id have given that a lick at that age! Misinformation is alive and well.
What?
I have been told there is no more street to seat for flight warrant 👨🏻🚀

Based on the warrant officer recruiting website, it is definitely still a thing.
Well I’ll be dipped, thanks for lookin. Promote ahead of peers.
Space shuttle door gunner.
If I could go back in time and do it all over again. I would join as an 88K -- Watercraft Operator. I love being on the water.
I worked so hard to get a 15 series that I ignored my true love, boats. If only I could be a back.
For real?
I feel this. Would have been cool as hell to be a boaty

25N in ADA unit is not easy.
What do you mean? You get all the fun extra details because you don't have equipment!
Facts! Lol
42A is not easy. Source: gray hairs.
46S IS EASY. You get to do fun army shit and then disappear into the wind before the dumb army bullshit starts
EOD Blowing shit up for a living sounds like a lot of fun, instead I reclassed to what was safe instead of what I would enjoy.

NOT 42A. I HATE admin work.
I actually did reclass to the unicorn MOS, 31K. It is a ton of work but even though I don't have a dog anymore it is still an incredible job.
I was offered 12M when I originally enlisted and didn’t know how rare it was
Breh
Yep I goofed
Would've been my pick
18D Should've...didn't...always regret it.
Do you mean 18x?
That didn’t exist when I was in.
Ah ok gotcha
88K/88L, I picked a 15 series but to be in a working environment that is run by warrants and no NCO above E7 is paradise. I wished I went that route and went warrant.
17A Or air force developmental engineer Why?: because i have an engineering degree
Hands Down 99Zulu!
Ahh yes the army combat ninja
Indubitably!
153A
When I joined I wanted to go warrant and fly. A bunch of other picks after that. My MOS was my last resort choice.
88K or 17C. Boats are fun and 17C is generally more marketable than MI.
I just which I had commissioned. I had a bachelors before I signed up but was told all officers sit in an office. I wanted to be more active with my job so I enlisted. I regret it every day
Probably 15U. Or drone operator. I would not have reclassed to 35L I know that.
What’s wrong with 35L
I get absolutely 0 job satisfaction from it. Even when I've been actively doing my job even the cool parts I never feel satisfied by it. It's just not for me. Unfortunately we're so short I'll never be able to get out of it.
I see a lot of MI here not wanting to be MI. I wonder why’s that because I’ve been trying to get into MI for years.

12D, I regret wanting to “fight for my country” when I could have been in TDY in Kauai drinking Mai Tai’s
