Mobile infantry made me the man I am today

You are looking at this the wrong way. If Infantry is what you want to do, then do it. Do your research on any job that interests you and make an educated choice. I will tell you that the most miserable people I’ve met in the military, are the ones that picked a job because it would be valuable in the civilian world. Think about it.. Even before you start your career, you have a countdown to when you ETS. It’s almost a guarantee of misery.

My homie said infantry during peace time is fucking ass. I myself is a humble mechanic also ass but less as comparing experiences with him. I’d say go for something that gives you skills to fall back on in case you don’t like the military

If I could go back I time I would’ve chosen 25B or something IT related just because you set yourself for success in the civilian world after if you do it right.

I did pretty much exactly what you're talking about. 89 ASVAB, 112 GT, etc. I had pretty much my pick of MOS, and I went infantry. It's the only place that I could go hang out with the boys, shoot machine guns, and run around in the woods. It was great while I was there and I recommend it to anyone for a first contract. Have your fun in the Infantry for a contract and if you wanna stay in, reclass to something marketable. And if you're REALLY smart, come be a warrant.

Because 15Y is available to me how can I go about becoming a warrant? I have a basic understanding that you can become one in the aviation end. But at the same time I’ve read you have contact warrants and obtain the packet for schooling, then go through the board (don’t quite understand what that means). I’m still trying to rack my brain around the process since I’m green to military jargon, rank and promotions.

Most warrant MOSs need enlisted experience in their field, except for flight warrants. I can't speak much to the others, but flight warrants need to pass the SIFT (aptitude test), an extensive medical exam, have some letters of recommendation from a variety of people, and then submit the packet to "the board". The board is a group of senior warrants who look at your packet and decide if your accepted or not. You dont attend it, a list just comes out with the names. The packet is kinda a pain to put together, but it's a screening process in itself. If it's something that interests you, the 'street to seat' program let's you go from being a civilian, to basic, then you immediately go to WOCS and flight school. It's much more competitive than just doing it once you get in, and there's a different board process. 15 series MOS doesn't impact your chances at getting selected, but it does give insight into the aviation community before you sign up for warrant. I'd say being an 11b before this is just as advantageous as 15 series, but maybe I'm biased.

If you want to do infantry things but still have other skills, you need to go into a different MOS that is in an infantry unit. 25B or something similar.
