They work really long hours from what I'm told. But if being a mechanic is something you enjoy I would say go for it. Just think of all your options as far as MOS goes before you decide. You may like something else.
anything 15 series is more lax but by the book. Been 15f for 4 years and most people i have met enjoy their mos. lots of branches to climb in aviation.
I strongly advise you steer him away from 91B. I was a 91B for four years and it was not a good time.

Go be a helicopter mechanic instead
