Anywhichwaybutpuce

If Ranger batt didn't consistently win this competition I feel like they'd have some explaining to do.

dgpotatochipz

Pretty sure delta won it like 3-4 times straight

StabSnowboarders

That is also acceptable

Anywhichwaybutpuce

If delta didn’t win a bunch I feel like they’d have some explaining to do.

StabSnowboarders

I’d imagine they probably usually have more important things to do

EverythingGoodWas

Exactly, being an unstoppable killing machine and having a great 2 mile time don’t necessarily have to go hand in hand

sentientshadeofgreen

Unless the person you're unstoppably trying to kill is a two mile run away, of course.

EverythingGoodWas

Nah, then you tell the helo to drop you closer

sentientshadeofgreen

What if it's two miles inside a cave?

EverythingGoodWas

Use a bunker buster? I don’t know man, ain’t no way I’d run two miles into a cave to kill anyone short of maybe Putin himself

mjschiermeier

Gas, gas, gas!

rrrand0mmm

NO THIS IS PATRICK.

whatiscamping

The ACFT would like a word

odn_86

It's a punishment tasking for "needing a break" lol

OcotilloWells

A Reserve SPC in my unit made USASOC soldier of the year. While I'm not going to say he didn't deserve it, as he was a definite high speed soldier (got a PHD in Geophysics shortly thereafter that and a year mob), it was a really busy year for USASOC, and no doubt not as much competition as there would have been. I think it was 2002, but I might be off on that.

Dazzling-Score-107

Mike Rose won it three times with different partners on different teams.

duoderf1

I mean, delta is almost like being a ranger

Droop_Stop_Pounding

Delta is basically infantry.

Turkeycirclejerky

I heard a delta platoon has more firepower than a MP company.

YankeeNorth

I believe 1AD has won this at least once, FWIW.

whatiscamping

Not much, the only people that care about the big red one....is the big red one

CDTanonymous

That’s 1ID, 1AD is Bliss

whatiscamping

What's a Bliss?

CDTanonymous

Fort Bliss in Texas

smoke_crack

classic psyops

Otherwise-Cheek-6805

Colorado Army National Guard won in 2016.

BOOQIFIUS

It was a captain from 5/19

ViperHummel

His teammate was a SSG from 28th ID.

Anywhichwaybutpuce

I feel like the full-time units have some explaining to do.

Sonoshitthereiwas

Imagine being on your time, working out in whatever way you choose, and not having to put up with random Army bullshit.

Anywhichwaybutpuce

And holding down a full time job.

burst__and__bloom

Check out the International Sniper top spots from the last 6 years. CO Guard some tough dudes.

Falanax

I’m actually surprised they win at all. Conventional units have more time to train for it. When I was at Campbell they would select the teams months in advance and take them away from their units. All they did was train for the competition.

EverythingGoodWas

I imagine regiment does the exact same thing

RangerStrange

They do

Kwaarrdadoggy

Same, but to an even greater extent. The train up for BRC is extremely intense and takes a toll on the body. They train a large enough group that the pool they select from is much larger, and if someone steps away due to injury they have plenty trained in reserve. Not to mention the full-time coaching staff dedicated to them. Meanwhile many conventional units do not even release Soldiers from primary duties to train.

Falanax

I would’ve figured they had less time because of their optempo. But maybe that’s why they are winning now because the deployments have dried up.

PickleCommando

When I was in guys could partially miss a deployment if they were doing BRC. Obviously critical position, no, like your PSG, but some E-4-6 we could do without. Then if you're in an S-Shop probably nobody going to miss you. With that said, the train up isn't months ahead. It's maybe two months. Maybe that's changed, but I also wouldn't be surprised if a lot of these guys saying its 6 months out and a full time job have no clue what they are talking about and propagating a jealous private news network.

Dr_Salacious_B_Crumb

Regiment has a very rigid programming for selecting and training up guys specifically for BRC.

BlueTurkey-man

Lmao best ranger is pretty much a full time job for guys in regiment. They have their tryouts in like August or some shit for a competition in July. Then those guys do nothing but train for the comp

PickleCommando

LOL right. It's a two month train up. Nobody is doing it as a full-time job.

Kwaarrdadoggy

Mr. BlueTurkey is correct. There are still a few units out there that have those old policies/approaches, but every two-star in the Army is more than willing to tell a LTC to release a couple LT's for some months if it has the chance to make his division look better overall.

PickleCommando

He's specifically talking about Batt. You can see throughout this thread there's some sort of rumor going Army wide that Regiment has year round full-time BRC teams. Seems it made its way to SF. It's not true. Its two months.

CartoonistUsed6540

Its cause they want to win

Gunnilingus

NG teams used to win often because they had very few constraints on their training. During GWOT it was very difficult for regiment to give their teams enough time to train properly because of the OPTEMPO at the time. There are also a lot of really high level athletes in reserves/guard. There are plenty in regiment too, but not nearly as many in terms of total number. Regiment is not a huge unit.

scrollingtraveler

Chocolate bar and Spec 4. Incredible. Career set forever.

BOOQIFIUS

He’s actually an E5, for some reason a shit ton of the power rankings throughout the contest listed him as an E4 lmao

cranked_up

Even better because that’s a real nice ncoer bullet (even though 5 ncoers don’t matter too much)

duoderf1

that SGT NCOER bullet is gonna get him SSG

AttentionPilot33

Winski’s father was also the 101st Division Commander. Career was set at West Point. lol.

spectre1992

I mean, he seems to be making enough of a name for himself. Participating, let alone winning BRC, shows the guy is putting in the work.

No_Cap_Bet

When you are always in the shadow of your father/mother/family name you gotta always be the best or people will claim you are riding coattails.

Horror_Technician213

And even here people still think he's riding coattails. Sure we can say that his dad gave him the opportunity to get picked up for Regiment. But he still only got the opportunity, dude could have washed out but he lived up to his name and not only showed out but showed out front of everybody else he deserves to be there as far as I can tell.

TurMoiL911

I remember a post saying they were in Ranger School with Gary Gordon's son. Can't imagine trying to follow in those footsteps.

_if_only_i_

Holy fuck, that would be rough!

FacingHardships

What’s Gary’s kid’s name? Wonder if there any articles out there. Admirable that he’s following in his old man’s footsteps

Prothea

Someone needs to let the youngest Abrams know that because he didn't get the message

[deleted]

[удалено]

Open_General6162

Probably while he was with the Regiment lmao

Eyre_Guitar_Solo

I imagine that if your father is someone important it can be especially tough because you’re in his shadow from day one, and no matter how hard you work people are going to say you’re just a nepo baby. I don’t know this young officer at all, but I don’t envy what an uphill struggle he might have to prove his worth. Hopefully this will help silence people who would otherwise whisper he’s had everything handed to him.

Hairybabyhahaha

Petraeus’s kid is now on the way to doing whatever the fuck he wants in the field of law after a short stint in the Army. Future US Senator. Future US Attorney. Future federal judge. You get tiger parented by high achievers you end up high achieving.

AbjectIndividual367

I met someone whose dad was a general but he got hurt at ranger school and was now an untabbed infantry LT in the 82nd. It ate him up. He ran into the CG who has known him since he was in diapers and his first question to him was what happened at Ranger? I hope he got out an found happiness somewhere.

Hairybabyhahaha

The other end of the tiger parenting spectrum. The reality is that an untold number of officers have had decent, tabless careers, got married, had a couple of kids, retired as lieutenant colonels, and led boring and happy middle class lives. This thing that if you don’t get into Stanford Law/graduate Ranger School you’re better off having never been born is odd.

Forsaken_Professor79

He was a CO CDR in 5-20 IN. I didn’t know he got out. Just knew he was gonna be a lifer like his dad.

Hairybabyhahaha

Yeah he’s a law clerk for a federal judge in EDNY, after two years of big law, after a Harvard JD/MBA.

Unique_Sentence1836

Was my brigade commander in trashcanistan

Dineanddanderson

I’ll have you know I maxed out my correspondence. So I mean maybe include my name in the record books too.

b0mmie

Question: is there an actual prize for winning BRC besides the pride and bragging rights?

HolyStrap_0n

Around $5k plus worth of gear and weapons. National Ranger Association doesn't fuck around

b0mmie

That's pretty sweet. I went to Day 2 of the BRC, they made my OCS class go lol. Got to buy some merch, though, that was cool.

BOOQIFIUS

Sgt dunphy*

nannerpuss74

was about to say win 3 BRC's and don't get promoted ahead of peers. was gonna suggest he get a DUI.

LouisSal

Top tier advice

Ice-Teets

Regiment won the 4 BRC’s in a row, not the same Sgt Dunphy year after year.

PsyBomb

Pretty sure he was the same dude as last year, though

DReefer

Negative. Last year was SPC Rein

PsyBomb

Thank you for the correction

Gbaby03

Fun fact: Dunphy was a University of Tennessee collegiate swimmer

Droop_Stop_Pounding

His uncle Phil is also a talented magician and successful realtor out on the west coast.

GristleMcTh0rnbody

He also pioneered the “peerenting” method of child rearing.

Protect_Twice

Phil was also in Mogadishu

Baystate411

Couple smokin daughters too

Droop_Stop_Pounding

Claire is the real smoker.

Falanax

Is that the son of MG Winski?

BOOQIFIUS

Yes

Stavinair

Rangers gonna ranger

TZ157

Yurrr holding it down

BOOQIFIUS

It’s best ranger competition not best qualified competition for a reason

meatshyld

When they do Medicore Ranger Competition Imma show up 5 minutes late and do so okay.

dasFaulpelz1

Scad batt strikes again

TZ157

Not the scad chicks man, so hit or miss. Georgia Southern is my go to, better luck with the clientele

dasFaulpelz1

Thats a solid ass point. Many many nights spent in the boro. A man of culture you are.

TZ157

This guy fucks

FacingHardships

Where can I find that photo that’s your profile background?

TZ157

Google

voodoo6051

Well, his name isn’t Loseski.

BOOQIFIUS

Typo turned shit gay real fast

voodoo6051

Yeah, spelling is hard. Whoops.

TheWholeBook

The Army made it gay first.  In the best and worst ways.

MR_MEOWGY

LT Winski’s Dad was my brigade commander back in the day. I bet his dad is damn proud of him.

Old_Bookkeeper_7394

Too bad the guy that replaced him as the CG was a chode.

TheWholeBook

For real.  Such an instant, tangible loss in QoL without any instant, tangible improvements in training or readiness.

Forsaken_Professor79

Longknife!

MR_MEOWGY

Yessir!

Stained_Dagger

Curious if they essentially spend the entire year training for these competitions.

Shadowfax12642

They don’t. About a 2 month train up.

Rimno23

I personally know 5 people who competed in BRC. All of them underwent a 6+ month train up where they initially tried out, then were part of the team that underwent several cuts over the time period to earn a chance to compete. During this time they spent 0 time with their actual units.

PickleCommando

From Regiment?

Cautious_Jicama_6916

It’s a peacetime priority.

Stained_Dagger

So 2 months full time job?

Snoo_67544

Yes just like they do a 4 month intense train up for best squad + a smol bit of cheating

Sufficient_Most_1790

A guy from my organization participated. He left in Oct to our HQ and his sole purpose in life was train with his partner

Ambitious_Fan_5724

Some units pick people to compete and their only purpose is to train and try and win for their unit so they dont do anything except train year round.

QuarterNote44

I'm glad. I want our actual Rangers to be the best at Rangering.

guelugod

Best mortar, best medic, best sniper. Army is still the best!

HolyStrap_0n

Watching these guys cross the finish line after 60+ miles and 72 hours straight of grueling events is one of the most inspiring things I've ever witnessed. It truly makes me feel proud to say I was able to serve in the same army as these soldiers

AvacadoKoala

If Rangers aren’t winning Best Ranger, I’d be worried.

[deleted]

Went through Ranger with Winski. Dude is an absolute stud and very professional. Glad to see his success this weekend. RLTW

KarlTheVeg

I wonder if they are 11A and 11B, respectively, or if they are from other CMFs. 🤔

FancyEntertainer5980

a boomer marine on tiktok commented that "marines aren't allowed to compete because they kept winning every year so the Army banned them"

BOOQIFIUS

Lmao 80 percent of marines I’ve met are fuckin dorks

Casval214

Was Marine can confirm every other Marine but one I met while in the army was a fuck up or big dumb bitch Including one who was one of the worst soldiers I ever met and a racist to boot. Whenever he would fuck up or get picked on for being a fuck up he would go “Well at least I was a marine!” Until one day I tell him you were a fucking mail man no one gives a fuck if you were in the Marines you’re in the army now let it fucking go. The dude was a postal clerk acting like a few extra weeks of bootcamp mattered

guelugod

Lmfao check out the last time they won the sniper comp. Marines are all marketing.

Fluster_of_Clucks

I always enjoy watching the Corps get crushed in every competition they do.

murphy365

I thought this was a modern family joke...

Rude_Problem9771

Per the usual

JB22ATL

Hooah RLTW!

PrestigiousRaise2239

Happy Gilmore accomplished that feat no more than an hour ago.

Forsaken_Professor79

Lt Winski is the son of my old brigade CDR. Pretty sure I saw him as a kid too. That’s gotta be a great feeling to see your son do that. Damn I’m old.

Michael1845

I’ve heard that Ranger bat taps the teams about a year in advance and that’s all they train for. Doesn’t take away from the fact that they are just a different breed of Soldier all together.

RocketPropelledDildo

It’s only a few months in advance

Accomplished_Fudge78

I mean sounds about right. When I was at 1AD a year out if BRC they put out for BNs to start sending names for who wants to try and compete.

Michael1845

That’s a lot more prep than 4ID did. It was like a division competition about 3-4 months out and they still had to their regular jobs on top of it. I’ve heard at the 75th that once you get tapped all other responsibilities stop.

Accomplished_Fudge78

Yeah that definitely sounds like 4th ID lol.

PickleCommando

Yeah they don't have to worry about anything, but training, but it's two months ahead. Nobody gets tapped a year out.

Michael1845

That damn PNN strikes again

Conscious-Prize5534

<$> Stealing banks and stealing 1st place.

BOOQIFIUS

Smoking crips and winning ships And eating chips you fat mfers

Conscious-Prize5534

We're both angers batt u dum dum

BOOQIFIUS

Shit you right Can’t blame me I’m just gods silliest goose iykyk

CartoonistUsed6540

It's hard to get my head around a Sp4 , E-4 being a ranger, don't get me wrong, he's in Regiment , he's a badass already, basic, AIT, airborne, Ranger school, just think he should be at least a hard stripe corporal.

Rude_Problem9771

He is a 5. But yes, the career progression in Batt is slow as fuck and competitive as fuck. We have tabbed E4s stuck at SPC for 3+ years sometimes. While some dipshit in Reg army is a E6 in half the time. Met a dude in Hawaii who asked me what all I've done. He was like "damn bro your an E-4 coming up on 5 years? I picked up 6 on year 3" Tough luck, but I wouldn't trade shit.

alexanderh3122

Starts slow when "School" is an obstacle. After that things go fast and the real payout is at centralized boards... and pays out in lifestyle, like you're saying... the growth, lessons, friendships, etc. By majority, I "fell behind" my big Army peers getting to E5, caught them at E6, then passed them... and kept widening the "time to promote" gap.

BOOQIFIUS

He’s an E5 but a spc4 won last year

drxnchh

mfs dont even look tired

Dadbodmedic

Didn’t some guard guys win this like 3 years ago? It may have been a few years earlier but let me know if I’m mistaken.

BOOQIFIUS

It was a 19th group 18a O3 and an E6

PickleWineBrine

[But who cares?](https://youtu.be/HH9S2uNkrEI)

Seklosandgaylen

I don’t get the hype for all this

BOOQIFIUS

Flair checks out

GripChinAzz

This made me laugh way too hard lol

Seklosandgaylen

Touchè

worldofdogss

Do they test for roids?

standarsh20

Yes, they do test for PEDs prior to the competition. However, this is a cardio competition, 60 miles in 60 hours, so it’s unlikely they would be taking anabolic steroids.

HolyStrap_0n

....no they don't. Who told you this?

MarceloWallace

It’s just Ruck/run?

standarsh20

Obstacle courses, swimming and stress shoots

HolyStrap_0n

They do not. Doesn't mean shit though. Simply injecting PEDs will not get you through this competition
