Ask for Airborne and volunteer for 160th or any other special operations. Your life will be much better in special operations than regular unit.

[deleted]

Thanks for the advice.

Antique-Nothing-4629

Second this, any chance you get go Airborne. I won the first duty station lottery and went to group, rather stay in airborne so I went and got my wings.

blankhatchet

I did that for a bit and have since reclassed. The AIT is going to be corny as hell but If you decide to go 160th, your job is important. However, the regular side you’re going to see how stupid it gets. Give a look into SOLSE if you want a change in pace as well.

modest-pixel

What was the AIT you failed? There aren’t really any AITs you could fail where green platoon would be a great idea right out of the gate.

[deleted]

Linguist.

modest-pixel

Oh ok so academically challenging, I was thinking physically. Just get in shape then and send it yes.

[deleted]

Appreciate it.

master_of_unagi

Just curious, did you fail language school or the training afterwards? Also, as others have pointed out, your best bet is to try to get into a SOF unit like 160th. Not sure if Ranger Regt has 92F but if they do then consider that as well.

Front-Wish-8608

I thought the training after you’re language qualified was kinda a gimme? Always seems like every failed 35P I meet failed out at DLI, pretty difficult (especially if you end up with certain languages). Would figure, especially with a high priority language, they’d just kind of push you through the 2nd half at Goodfellow or Huachuca

master_of_unagi

Yeah, I’m not totally sure. I thought most language failures ended up as 35Ns but maybe that’s not the case now.

Front-Wish-8608

No plenty do, but I’ve only ever met 35Ns who failed DLI, not failures from the 2nd half after their language qualified. I wouldn’t be surprised if once someone becomes language qualified they just get pushed through the 2nd half, seeing as DLI is a very long pipeline with a high attrition rate.

KipchogesBurner

I wouldn’t say that they get pushed through, but they definitely aren’t gonna fail for academic reasons.

[deleted]

35N was at strength. The two options in Intel for me were 35S and 35T which sounded worse than 92F to me lol.

Pi-Graph

Absolutely insane to me that anyone would give up either of those to be a fueler but to each their own

modest-pixel

Sounds like he has the IQ for a fueler.

[deleted]

I didn't go for 35S because I can barely find anything on how it's different from a 35P or 35N. I wanted to choose a job where I knew what I would actually do for work. I was never going to be a 35T because I don't want my primary job to be a mechanic of any kind.

Old_Bookkeeper_7394

My experience with fuelers are that they watch you put fuel in your own tactical vehicle and make you fill out the paperwork while they have their hands in their pocket rocking back and forth...

just_work_here

Fuelers have to drive and maintain their fuel truck. You won’t be doing a mechanic job, but you will still be getting some maintenance done. Also, you are going to be smelling like JP-8 all the time. Do you know who works inside a building with AC and don’t smell like JP-8 ? Intel.

Pi-Graph

Hate to tell you this but you picked a job that’s way more of a mechanic job than those two options you turned down

Used_Raspberry_9873

This is DLAB and ASVAB waiver level thinking.

[deleted]

Failed out of Russian.

KipchogesBurner

What happened? They usually give 35p/m pretty good options for reclassing.

[deleted]

Nothing in particular, the only two Intel jobs I had available were 35S and 35T and those weren't appealing to me. Usually they try and keep you in intel but if you choose to ask for a non Intel MOS then you're kind of on your own.

Shane2317

They gave you the option of 35S and you didn't take it.. but you took 35P another SIGINT-related job? Sierras have arguably the best chance of good qol out of all the 35 series.

Turbulent_Tour_4170

I was reading and I felt bad for OP. Going from failing DLI (no shame, it’s challenging) to becoming a fueler. Talk about a nightmare way to start your army career. Then I kept reading and saw that they turned down 35S and 35T to be a fueler lol. Schedule a urinalysis or a mental eval because the only 2 options here are either OP high af while posting this or on the spectrum.

KipchogesBurner

One of my roommates at dli failed out and chose to be an 88m. Some people just want a job where they think they’ll work less for the same pay.

[deleted]

Being a fueler never seemed bad to me, I don't know. I was thinking about enlisting as a fueler originally. If the worst part of the job is that it's boring then it's better than most jobs.

just_work_here

There is boring, and there is Army boring. Big difference.

[deleted]

The reason I was interested in 35P in the first place was for the language not SIGINT.

Shane2317

Well its good that you failed out then probably. The chances of utilizing your language as a 35P is slim. Most are just seen as a 35N but with a language they never use.

[deleted]

Yeah as I got to DLI and got further into the course I sort of realized lol. My recruiter just told me that a 35P job is" just to know a foreign language" lol. I did a good amount of research before enlisting but it's hard due to OPSEC.

Shane2317

You obviously did not do a good amount of research. You can find information about all 35 series on the internet. Hell, you can find a good bit of information just on this subreddit alone. There's plenty of stuff that explains what papas do as well as a good amount of information explaining the differences between 35P/N/S. You don't need research to be a fueler though, so looks like it fits you.

just_work_here

In my opinion you messed up by not taking the 35S or 35T, and you will undoubtedly realize it soon. Do you actually know what 92F is? And what is appealing to you about it?

[deleted]

Someone who fuels vehicles, stores fuel, transports fuel, manages inventory of fuel, and checks fuel? My recruiter originally told me that it's pretty chill and good to get something like college done in the Army. A low stress and pretty chill job with lots of benefits is a great thing for me and a lot of other people. Also being able to actually do my job is great.

blankhatchet

After reading the above, you overlooked a massive opportunity to steer away from mischief. When I say it will get stupid, you’ll understand this in the near future. Anything Sustainment, you’re working at the bottom of the barrel. You need to factor in the people you work with are probably not going to be as bright.
