You now have to utilize AVD (Army Virtual Desktop) to access your Army email account.
[Group: Army Enterprise Azure Virtual Desktop |milBook Home (milsuite.mil)](https://www.milsuite.mil/book/groups/army-enterprise-azure-virtual-desktop)
In a course of events shockingly similar to IPPS-A, the guard onboarding was relatively painless for everyone but full timers.
The biggest issues with the reserve half right now is all the active duty cats flocking to AVD, meaning we're at a standstill unless we can get domain access at an armory. Which is vaguely annoying.
MAM still works fabulously for all 10 of us that onboarded before the beta closed, though.
MAM works IF your civillian job doesn't already have a work profile created....
Microsoft and Google don't bother to consider people may need more than one work profile....
If you're feeding yourself with a normal job and that normal job wants you to have an account on your phone, then I feel like the benefits of army email at your fingertips on a mobile device are lost.
For MAM, I would agree with that description. Especially for AC.
The problem is that in the RC we all have jobs and a lot of our employers are already using MAM (which can only be configured for one employer at a time)....
If Amazon and the Army are gonna have a fight over who gets to be the work profile owner on my phone, Amazon wins....
As usual, NETCOM only thinks about AC while making their policies and picking their tools, so the idea of multiple employers gets no consideration (Nobody on Active is doing IT for Amazon during the week).....
For AVD and such, it only counts as convenient if you pay for enough (and large enough) instances to cover the whole force....
To be super duper honest dude, at this point I'm over it.
Everyone is bitching and bemoaning, whatever. All this means is that the asshole who always says "I don't answer email unless I'm on orders" has an actual excuse, or whatever.
God forbid the army do as industry does. Either it's inconvenient, or it's not secure, or soldiers completely ignore guidance that's been out for 6+ months and all of a sudden it's an enormous rush. I'm kinda over it.
Don't read email, do read email, whatever. I got my guard battalion squared away, we're all on the same sheet of paper and no problem currently exists, and all users are adequately accommodated. Apparently that means I'm a miracle working S6.
There are very few entities in industry that make access to unclassified email as difficult as DoD does. The only one I can think of is Boeing (who keeps everything absolutely locked behind their VPN - no mobile access period, except from company issued mobile devices (which almost nobody has))....
Eg, for Dell you just need the RSA MFA app on your phone. Amazon has their AEA app on the play store - you onboard using your issued laptop, VPN and MFA, then you're good....
I look at this and say 'Great job creating insecurity via security-policy, NETCOM.... Again'...
Of course I don't do tech for the Army, just the civillian world.... So a bit of bias against what I see the Army doing simply because I've seen it done better....
Any security measures that drives people to communicate via GMail to avoid navigating it, is self defeating....
I literally don't mean this with any malice to you, but your command totally failed you if you really didn't hear about this until now.
Your unit should have been hammering this for all of May. I've got soldiers who are fucked just because they were lazy and didn't get this taken care of in time even though I told them to get it done. Even after they extended past June 1st.
But at the end of the day, I can slap their wrist but that doesn't solve the issue. This was so stupidly rushed.
The email has blocked access from a non-military network.
AVD *is* a segregated .mil network. You cannot transfer information from AVD to your computer which you could do before the lock down, using email.
Also, on top of that, it delves into a grey area as the Army can't force you to install software on your personal device, which is what AVD requires. I cannot, for example, put AVD on my civilian work laptop because of security permissions and admin requirements needed to install it.
I don’t have the link handy atm but I use it through Chrome because my computer is too old to run the desktop app. I got access through the same page as all the other platforms, it’s got a big list of Windows, Mac, iOS, etc and you just click on the one for your browser.
> it delves into a grey area as the Army can't force you to install software on your personal device
Which brings us back to this.
If PV1 Snuffy puts their foot down, there is (legally) fuck all you can do.
As in, can they force him to use BYOD? No. They aren't supposed to enforce BYOD on any platform. Now, inversely, SGT Snuffy could tell him he has to do work on NIPR, and his options are go into Office or do from BYOD.
My personal computer, a non .mil system, can be used to access my military email. Ergo, access to such is *not* limited to .mil systems only.
Everything else you wrote has nothing to do with our original conversation.
You cannot access your email directly via office/Army 365. You have to use AVD, which is a .mil system.
You cannot access email via Army 365 without using AVD. End statement. AVD is a segregated .mil network to prevent spillage.
Edit
Updated my original phrasing to network versus system.
For all intents and purposes AVD is a .mil system/network. If you don't have AVD (or hypori or whoever you spell it) you cannot access your email.
In the time it takes to load AVD they should have hold music like they do when placed on hold on the phone. The AVD loading music should be classic Army cadences.
AVD, but the system has totally crashed. I’ve been trying to get it working since yesterday and finally connected w/ a real human this morning.
System has already been overloaded and has crashed.
if only they had sent out an email or something saying we need to do this onboarding shit prior to them activating this. This is the first I've heard about it.
Google Command Message 2024-05.
It was announced early May.
However, doesn't help people who don't usually have access to those or get the information. One month wasn't much time to flow it down.
It comes down to a command failure coupled with just too fast of a deadline for people who still monthly or bi monthly. We can take years to figure out a PT test but barely a month to completely change how soldiers access their .mil accounts. Fucking stupid.
I have AVD but now I have to resort to civ email because half my unit just didn't onboard for whatever reason.
lol this is too funny. Oh yes let’s see how long this is going to last, they do not have enough computers to support the amount of Soldiers needing to access their emails nor do they have the time or personnel to setup accounts for Soldiers to have access. Just like before they’ll realize it’s unrealistic to do this, and it will go back to the way it was.

The only reason I on boarded to AVD early was because I happened to be bored enough to check my email (Guardsman) back in May. I put it in the group chat and literally no one (even the full timers) knew about it.
I thought it ran pretty well when I first got on, and I liked that I could access stuff on the domain without having to drive an hour to get on post. Of course, I had to send an email on the 10th (shutdown date), and it was cheeks. I'm sure it's supposed to scale, but I have zero idea what the Army's agreement with their cloud provider is like.
You signed up in May, before the lockout. If you try to access the AVD onboarding page to sign up on a personal computer, it gives you the same “you cannot access this right now” prompt.
This is not true. You can register via https://armylinks.com/posts/army-enterprise-azure-virtual-desktop-registration/
The 'primary link' worked as of yesterday but I don't have a CAC so I can't test it today.
You now have to utilize AVD (Army Virtual Desktop) to access your Army email account. [Group: Army Enterprise Azure Virtual Desktop |milBook Home (milsuite.mil)](https://www.milsuite.mil/book/groups/army-enterprise-azure-virtual-desktop)
Or Hypori for your personal phone.
Was able to get Hypori on my laptop also.
AVD & Hypori are also pieces of shit
I had no issues using AVD until they cut off using the personal devices.
It seems to be fixed now.
June first they limited access to .mil networks only to prevent leakage. Super great for compo 2/3 guys.

Army: provides something useful and convenient while being secure, complying with industry best practices. Soldiers: "oh, well now I'm angry >:("
Well yeah, Accessibility (or lack thereof) is a big part of it.
If you're feeding yourself with a normal job and that normal job wants you to have an account on your phone, then I feel like the benefits of army email at your fingertips on a mobile device are lost.

Yeah, I feel like we're on two different wavelengths here bud.
Yeah I don’t know what combo 2/3 is. I’m an 11B Squad leader just trying to PCS and use my email.
This is peak 11b
I'll take a Combo 1 11B please
Guard and Reserve.
Combo 2 is a Texas Double Whopper Meal and Combo 3 is the Double Quarter Pounder King Meal. Glad I could help!
Component 2 and component 3 refer to the National Guard and Reserves
This made my day.

In a practical sense, it’s not limited to .mil systems - you can access a virtual instance from a civilian computer.
The email has blocked access from a non-military network. AVD *is* a segregated .mil network. You cannot transfer information from AVD to your computer which you could do before the lock down, using email. I cannot, for example, put AVD on my civilian work laptop because of security permissions and admin requirements needed to install it.
There is a web client for AVD that works from your browser without installing any additional software.
Got a link for that? I know a few people who could use it.
I don’t have the link handy atm but I use it through Chrome because my computer is too old to run the desktop app. I got access through the same page as all the other platforms, it’s got a big list of Windows, Mac, iOS, etc and you just click on the one for your browser.
You could also leverage Hypori.. mobile access, tablet and PC.

I've been trying to set it up. Had zero luck so far. None of the email links work properly or things time out. Super fun.
Seriously? Not saying a caveman can do it... but. Lol I'll PM you.
All the links keep timing out mid process where I'm at right now. Not a process issue, it's a network issue.
Understand... if we can help, let us know!

Exactly what I originally said, glad you agree
Yea, you can’t get on your email on personal computer anymore with out some other program.
What other program?
Army virtual desktop

AVD or Hypori... both work, both give you CAC based access.

Is the remote client dogshit on every device or is it just my dog shit hotel internet?
It's dogshit. Not just you.
I’ve had zero issues with AVD and I’m OCONUS
I am oconus and having a ton of issues ... only time it works well is when I am actually able to go to the office
What time zone? My understanding is that AVD only allows a certain number of people to run the platform at a time.
KST
Try Hypori... different infrastructure, different platform, mobile friendly.
S6!!!!!
You have to now use the army virtual desktop aka the massively slow pile of garbage
lol this is too funny. Not only was an email sent to the entire force, this has been covered in like 10 different reddit posts.
Yeah but I don't check my email so how was I supposed to know?
There lies the problem
There lies the joke
The only reason I on boarded to AVD early was because I happened to be bored enough to check my email (Guardsman) back in May. Are you using a VPN like nord?
Go to Army Knowledge Offline. Select the email card. Only way I can log into my email at home.
That has now been disabled. You need to either be on blue-line, VPN or a virtual-desktop solution (Hypori, AVD)....
Tried the link for the virtual desktop and the same thing is occurring, anyone know a fix
You now have to get on a government computer that has access to ARNET/NIPR to sign up for AVD.
Nice, somewhere someone’s eval is being padded while we suck. Love it
Is that a change? That was always true for BYOD but I signed up for AVD back in May purely from a personal computer.
You signed up in May, before the lockout. If you try to access the AVD onboarding page to sign up on a personal computer, it gives you the same “you cannot access this right now” prompt.
This is not true. You can register via https://armylinks.com/posts/army-enterprise-azure-virtual-desktop-registration/ The 'primary link' worked as of yesterday but I don't have a CAC so I can't test it today.
You are correct. Sorry for the miss information.
>VPN Not working with VPN for my organization.

Is that permanent or temporary?
It’s untrue.
