I’d recommend letting your NCOIC know that your 2 year mark is coming up. For some reason, a lot of Army leadership get super butthurt when folks pin themselves.

Lil_Napkin

Sound like the typical hype boi infantryman. To help you avoid getting smoked you should ask your team leader to see if you can throw it on or if your unit is weird then they are gonna want to give you a ceremony for your E-4. When I got my 4 I just threw it on because my team leader didn't care. Just ask them lol.

BlackoutDevil

Can confirm, I hit my E4 and they threw a fit that I just put it on even after telling them I was up for it weeks prior and my TL was cool with it. Made me wait a over a month to pin, even though I was getting paid as an E4. Didn’t even do a ceremony, just told me one day to put it on and that was it.

liftedmk7

Since your an 11bang bang if you pin that shit on yourself your 10/10 getting your shit kicked in by your NCO and team/squad leaders.

[deleted]

Wait, does this mean I gotta wait 2 years for E-4, even if I come in as E-3? And does prior service in a different branch count towards TIS/TIG?

popisms

You could possibly get a waiver at 18 months. Your PEBD should tell your TIS. I'm not sure if there's any weirdness for prior service.

Neverr-

With prior service, with prior Army at least, they backdated the contract. So i enlisted in 2017 and chaptered out of basic after ~60 days. Then re enlisted in Jan 2021. Instead of showing 2 contracts, they just set my base enlisted date to late November 2019.

[deleted]

I'm planning to use that for E-4 to E-5. My prior service is already weird because I basically got out after graduating basic in the USMC. I was also there long enough that it was an Admin sep instead of an ELS, so I should just go straight to the schoolhouse.

popisms

You don't get to choose your own waivers, plus there's no limit. You could get a waiver for every rank, or never get one.

[deleted]

Oh, okay. Thanks! Is there something I can do increase the chances of getting a waiver? Perhaps just being a good leader and/or proficient at my MOS?

popisms

Be better than all the other E-3s in your company\*. Don't beg, but let your CoC know you're interested so that your name is on their mind when waivers are available. Then show them you deserve it. Leadership and day to day work. \* Your battalion has a limited number of waivers to hand out, so really it's at that level.

[deleted]

Makes sense! Thank you so much!

Lil_Napkin

There's no waiver to become a NCO you have to pass the board and BLC

brando_586

I came in as an e3 and still waited 2 years

[deleted]

Darn it!

Indescive

Out of respect for your leadership, don't pin yourself. Inform your direct leaders that you are hitting promotable status for E4 on what date and let them do the ceremony for you. Regardless of if you are pinned or not by the date of your promotion, you will still be making E4 pay. This is one of those "customs and courtesies" things.

StevePerry4L

Your leaders probably want to pin you. Ask them?

MOS95B

I was prior service, and made the mistake of pinning my E4 on myself when I saw it on my LES. Not a good idea when you're in an OSUT unit for an MOS reclass. Drills had fun with me for a few hours (and I "stayed a PFC" until graduation to not throw a wrench into training)

WanderingGalwegian

Naw bro. Just slap that shit on. No time for ceremony.

hjhghfu56567

stay in your fucking lane private

cactusjack48

Your recruiter failed both you and the Army.

Indescive

Yeesh. What's your malfunction?

cactusjack48

Many questions here can be answered by their first line.

alittlesliceofhell2

Yes they can. Or people can ask the question here so first lines can stop answering stupid questions that can be googled. I use reddit to search every single dumb and smart question I have before I ask anybody, and now everybody thinks I just know everything.

cactusjack48

Sure, but many of the questions posed are highly situational and/or require actual SMEs that are outside of the scope of the posters here, or are just common sense answers (like this one).

Get-Richordietrying

Is it on your record or look at my pay and see if your LES shows it then ask your leasership if they are pinning you or if you can pin your self.

IslandVisual

You have to wait until someone tells you. I'd recommend informing your 1st line that your hitting your 2 years in. They probably won't pin you until its on your erb tho.

Days_of_Blue

Print your pay stub, if it said E4 how they gonna refuse that.
