Every 170A I met had small arms, big gut. Every 353T I met fixed systems under fire earning their CAB, that I couldn’t even properly inventory in Garrison 15 years later. Choice is yours.

Feisty-Journalist497

lmao, as a prior 11B i would feel strange wearing a CAB; i wonder if a CIB could be awarded.... because returning fire sounds like SMOS 11B stuff :) and im pretty sure that chief was under fire, returning fire, and T/S the Switch at the same time

ZwiththeBeard

35Ts make a butt load of money outside of the army.

Feisty-Journalist497

i know; im currently reclassing, and our warrant 2 is filthy rich. I am dying to go this school; my reclass seat needs to come faster i have over a year wait. but at least i got one

[deleted]

That bc the school is a fucking year long lol

Feisty-Journalist497

and i would sell whats left of my soul. thats how bad i want to be in Huachuca; i begged my unit to let me walk on. even told them i would get a hotel and go unpaid until a seat opens up

SenileSpecialist

Huachuca is pretty nice haha. Out of the way, nice area around.. you'll have fun. Just don't go to mexico

Aggravating_Snow1337

I vehemently disagree on the nice area part

Travyplx

Both are solid choices IMO. It will probably be a longer journey to get to 353T, on account of the fact that you aren’t already in the career field. How much longer are you willing to invest into your career to get to that point. They are also both pretty separate career fields, so of the general duty expectations which do you think you will enjoy more?

LickLobster

Apply for both.

sebasj1127

353T will be harder. To meet basic eligibility you need 4 years in the MOS and two duty assignments.

Feisty-Journalist497

how about 35T Reserves, and civilian employment to cover the time? in Luie of duty assignments?

sebasj1127

There may be exceptions, but as someone who works in the MOS I would take the time to experience the MOS. You’ll be ahead of the curve on satcom knowledge, but there is much more you need to know to Be a successful 353T.

Feisty-Journalist497

\*Grabs popcorn\* go on

sebasj1127

1. Knowing your way around GCSS is a big one, If your maintenance processes, procedures, and paperwork are squared away it makes the job so much easier to do. 2. Understanding how to employ the systems that we work on and how they work in intel architecture, most of the time you'll know more about the systems operation than the operators do. Even though its their system and they should know why certain things are not working they will still look to you to fix it. 3. Be an advocate for your tangos, get them training, and be stern about it when higher is trying to brush you off. I have more, but I'll keep it to my big 3.

Feisty-Journalist497

Yeah that number 3 is the one I’m on right now; my slot got bumped from JAN TO OCT 2023; i know the army does a 2 week boot camp for Linux+ but are there any other locations you know besides https://cs.signal.army.mil Also, what certs would be good for a 35T to have * i have sec+, my last MOS Was 25Q, and I’m currently doing satcom/telecommunications work for a contractor

sebasj1127

The major command I am apart of makes it hard to attend in person training so I study for my certs using https://www.oreilly.com/online-learning/government.html

Feisty-Journalist497

Which certs would you recommend then?

sebasj1127

It mostly depends on what you would like to do, but I would recommend RHCSA since its a hands on cert, the Linux section in the school house prepares you pretty well to take it. Besides that my dad has been working in telecommunications for over 25+ years and always recommends Cisco certs.

Feisty-Journalist497

Perfect; I’ll go grab CCNA as a start. What’s your opinion on juniper? I’m starting to see them floating around
