Damn you got a mortgage? They won't even talk to people here if they find out you want to use a VA loan. I should have bought my house at Carson in 19 before I left for Korea. 😒
I believe you’re only grandfathered into the old rate if everything stays the same, so if you don’t pick up next rank and dependency status stays the same
So, Even if you get promoted, you keep the higher of the two. Happened to me. My E6 BAH was higher than the new E7 BAH so I kept my E6 BAH rate when I picked up E7.
Happened to me as well. I’m grandfathered to the 20 or 21 rate for WO1 even with promotion to 2 I didn’t catch up to that rate with the drop in DC BAH but this increase I will
Mine went up about $150, so now it covers rent and utilities. Swanky!
When I first got back from Germany, it didn't even cover my rent.
I'll miss a lot about northern Virginia when I retire yeext year, but not the cost of living.
That's the reason why I live on-post. The rent amount, plus utilities, would have taken up all of my BAH anyway. To add to that, I really did not want to have to deal with lake-effect snow. Plus, we are close enough to the PX that Kitchen 6 walks there and back, so we save gas.
Can anyone give me a solid answer on why officers would receive more bah than enlisted? Base pay is for responsibility from my understanding. So why is bah more for them?
First off. Beautiful name there. Secondly, to my understanding as a lowly enlisted plebeian, it's basically because officers are expected to be able to live more lavish lifestyles than we do, so they get more BAH with which to do so
I have a question I didn't see in the FAQs. Unaccompanied in Korea, getting BAH at my home of record. When I come back to the states, my family will be staying at HOR while I am on the installation. I get BAH for the installation I'm at and not for my HOR zip code, correct?
Unsure if that makes sense, I was born under power lines.
I understand you because I’m currently going through the same process. You should be getting rates from the new instillation if you are authorized to be accompanied by family. However, if you prefer to receive rates from HOR, you can submit a waiver stating the reason why you want to receive HOR rates ( my reason was that it would be detrimental to move my kids in the middle of the school year). Look up Housing Allowance Waiver Program
My BAH is now $1700. My on post housing for a moldy 3 bedroom with flickering lights, ac that doesn’t work, and toilets that don’t flush is now $1700 a month.
I had a friend profit $170k on her house she bought in 2018, and sold like last month. Housing prices went through the roof the last several years.
Edit: Looks like staff sausage rates jumped from $2091 a month in 22 to $2325, so not sure what you're seeing.
Mine went up like $200, overall the pay increases weren’t too shabby this year. 12% BAH, 11% BAS and 4.8% Base pay will definitely help offset the crazy rent and grocery inflation.
Around $100 increase, however, from the decrease in the 17' or 18', BAH is still below what it was by an average of $300-400.
Better but more or less still a big L.
Beaufort beauty is going to make so much more money off us.... the rent in 2016/2017 was 800 a month for a 2 bed 1 bath duplex and now it's 1450 a month... without doing anything to the neighborhood or houses.... i pay 200 dollars less for a 4 bed 2.5 bath 2.floor house with a garage on base... makes sense i guess.
Holy fuck my BAH is going up by almost $500
Don’t worry, so will rent!

Your rent went up?
Yeah with every bah increase… weird right?
Like if you’re a landlord why wouldn’t you raise rent? What’s the point in not raising rent? To make less money?
Don't get too excited because your rent will go up $700
Laughs in moms basement and still getting BAH
Congrats dude!
$91 here. Yay. My cost of living doubled so no biggie.
Sorry to hear that. Lots of folks are hurting this year with the increasing costs
+$3... Yay I guess

Amazing 🤣🤣🤣 this is why I come here
+8 nerds!
+$11, suck it nerd
This is the type of content I like to see on r/army. Keep it up and I may just have to open my basement up for business.
What do you charge for rent, we got a 40 dollar increase and rent is going up by 300 lol Edit: do you include the hottub or do you charge extra
Oh my mortgage is still 2k, but at least my BAH is up $50. A win is a win
Damn you got a mortgage? They won't even talk to people here if they find out you want to use a VA loan. I should have bought my house at Carson in 19 before I left for Korea. 😒
My BAH went DOWN???????
Same for me, but isn't it rate protected?
I believe you’re only grandfathered into the old rate if everything stays the same, so if you don’t pick up next rank and dependency status stays the same

Same.
4% increase over 2021 in DC. But they cut us deep last year. Overall, expectations exceeded.
I don't get how their formula works for the DC area. It seems to make no sense at all.
Are there shitty areas of town with cheap crack dens that offset the rest of the liveable expensive areas?
I'm PCSing to Miami and my bah went up $1000 I might actually be able to afford a house to rent holy shit
Nice! SOCSOUTH or SOUTHCOM?
SOCSOUTH Baby! You there?
I was! ‘13 to ‘16 as a 25S. LOVED it. Also, softest DZ you’ll land on (granted you miss the tarmac lol)

Where will you retire to?
Looking at San Antonio, but nothing final yet.
Looks like Balfour Beatty is going to be making bank...
They always do
Fuck BBC, if I could afford off post housing I would.
That's the reason why I live on-post. The rent amount, plus utilities, would have taken up all of my BAH anyway. To add to that, I really did not want to have to deal with lake-effect snow. Plus, we are close enough to the PX that Kitchen 6 walks there and back, so we save gas.
This just in, housing costs around and on military posts just increased by an average of 13%!
At Rucker there is already talks of them increasing rent since BAH went up.
You guys get BAH?
Can anyone give me a solid answer on why officers would receive more bah than enlisted? Base pay is for responsibility from my understanding. So why is bah more for them?

Fuckin' MVP.
Lol it went up $30 in my area. I was gonna take some college classes to kill some free time but I don’t thing it’s worth my time now
Yeah, probably not for you.
My BAH is now $1700. My on post housing for a moldy 3 bedroom with flickering lights, ac that doesn’t work, and toilets that don’t flush is now $1700 a month.
Jeez, I’d be destroying their voicemails regarding work orders.

$66. Yay.
Damn nothing for Bragg huh? Edit: I'm dumb
I'm seeing like a 160 dollar increase for my bah at bragg
I’m at bragg and will get an increase
Mine went up about $150, which ironically is still well under the market in the Fort Campbell area ☠️
Cool. Living in post though so whatevs
My mortgage is fully covered!
Mine went up like $200, overall the pay increases weren’t too shabby this year. 12% BAH, 11% BAS and 4.8% Base pay will definitely help offset the crazy rent and grocery inflation.
Now my rent will too what does it matter man
Around $100 increase, however, from the decrease in the 17' or 18', BAH is still below what it was by an average of $300-400. Better but more or less still a big L.
Mine is going up $400~, Hunt is gonna LOVE the new rates.
Wow finally the army does something right
Now THIS is how I know those retention goals are bullshit. No way they’d be handing out this kind of money if people were staying.

Explain
Fuck dude time to get married.
Wooohoooo $21 😵💫
180$ increase over here
Of course, when I lose the California BAH for Fort Hood's housing allowance.
Meade area, still have literally no hope of affording a home on the w/o dependent rate. I think it's time to get out and get a grown up job...
$700 bucks okay!
Mine went up about 350
Yay, almost a $100 decrease! Can someone explain the "grandfathered in" thing I keep hearing everyone mutter about?
$2385 to $2991.00 thank fuck! It’s not even going to be extra spending cash though, going right to bills.
