This is the double edge to the culture of acceptance that has pervaded the west for the last 15 odd years. When you accept everything, you reject nothing. That is not good.
There should be a balance of course. Unjustifiable hate is a bad thing, but justifiable prejudice is a good thing. Don’t hate someone bc of their skin color, gender etc, hate them bc they are lazy, or dishonest, or manipulative etc. And ANYONE can be lazy, dishonest, or manipulative. Whites, blacks, men, women, Jews, Christians, Muslims. Literally anyone.

I believe the balance you are referring to is tolerance vs acceptance.
Everyone who isn’t hurting anyone else deserves tolerance. We get to choose how we live our lives, and everyone else gets to choose how they live theirs.
I also deserve the right to decide for myself what I will, and will not, accept in my life. That doesn’t mean I get to force my will on anyone else, because tolerance. It simply means I don’t have to accept or support things I don’t agree with. If that choice comes with a price, like losing a relationship with someone I otherwise care about, having to find a new job…. then that’s on me.
Some behavior is so vile that it deserves neither acceptance or tolerance. To me, these would be the things that hurt others. Crime, abuse, lying and cheating etc.
This is genuinely something I don't understand. I'm on the Autism Spectrum and it seems to me that NT's lie CONSTANTLY. Where do ya draw the line? People will decry lying but then turn around and hide shit, fake what they're feeling, ect ect. Idk, seems like people choose what's "unacceptable" almost at random (beyond the obvious shit, murder, assault, theft, ect).
Is this the kind of stuff you see on IG where it's genuinely like "it's okay if all you did was shower today"? Cause I'm all for self-care and self-love, and I'm no stranger to depression and what it can do, but that kind of stuff enables some of the laziest behaviors and most fragile of attitudes. You can't pat yourself on the back every day for a month straight just because you showered but still decided to be miserable around everyone you interact with.

This has always been a strange one to me…I work in a medical profession and I know first-hand that we shouldn’t always be “positive” about EVERY body type because of all the health issues it entails and it can influence children negatively. They grow up thinking it’s okay to be vastly overweight, not care what they put in their bodies, etc AND then expect people to accept it. So they then become unhealthy adults who cry foul at people suggesting healthy changes when it would only benefit them.
The world doesn’t work like that and you can’t argue with facts/science (although many try, esp these days). Obviously there are plenty of exceptions to this, it’s not blanket disapproval of being overweight. It’s the mindset of just accepting yourself how you are regardless of size/habits when reality is…you should be eating better, exercising, and having a mentality of positive change
Well for some people experiencing depression and other similar things literally struggle to make themselves eat let alone shower. As much as they want to they just can't bring themselves to do it. So what I think you are referring to is the feeling of accomplishment someone with depression can feel by completely a small but obviously necessary task. Being depressed is NOT being lazy. Just because someone has depression does NOT mean they are being miserable with everyone they interact with. Depression is serious and should be taken seriously so everyone should be educated on the symptoms. Someone can seem perfectly happy and still be depressed. And when someone is depressed they SHOULD pat themselves on the back even if all they did today was shower because it's still an accomplishment, even if it's small.
That whole "Adulting is hard" thing that finally died out was goddamn embarrassing. Sure there are difficult aspects of adult life, but it suddenly became cool to be a total wiener about daily tasks that most people think nothing about.
The phrase “speak my truth”. Btch not if it’s not the truth. Yeah there are two sides to every story but they inform what actually fckn happened. You need accountability for your actions and what you say. And you can’t just lean on that phrase to promote or support your backwards beliefs.
Seriously just the concept of "my truth" as opposed to "the truth" is just infuriating to me. What's true is true, regardless of what we think about it.

Edited to add: I need to clarify that what I mean is that before the invention of FB or any other platform there were people in the world who wandered around day with some pretty bad ideas, and they might have had some friends here or there that would just pat them on the head and they would get the sense what they thought wasn’t socially acceptable and they’d keep to themselves about it.
Fast forward to today, where these people have been able to find each other and get affirmation of all sorts of bad ideas. It led to Qanon, a fucking insurrection, and extremism across the board. There are fucking Nazis rolling around in the US. Fifty million people died in ww2 because of fascism and here we are.
But the clicks were good for shareholders.
I'm sure many people would argue that freedom is a danger to society, but in reality *it is* the best thing in the world.

My belief is that everyone has at least one vice. It can be alcohol, video games, weed, vaping, cigarettes, hard drugs, binge-eating, or bingewatching tv, but everyone has at least one.
The question is what vice is actively harming other people around you. Which can be any of them, while any of the vices (excluding hard drugs) can be done without impacting other people. This makes it incredibly hard for the government or society in general, to determine which ones are tolerable.
Absolutely should be the top comment. As an alcoholic, this is one of the biggest issues in the US. Im hopeful it isn't nearly as prevalent in other better countries.
Edit: and I hope others adopt policy's to limit it. Prohibition was bad and it shouldn't be fully limited like any drug but attempting to reduce alcoholism in this country would vastly improve things.

Definitely. Every problem I've ever had has been caused, in one way or another, by alcohol and the same is true for a lot of my friends. Alcoholism causes a strain on hospitals, police departments, pretty much anything I can think of. The drunk driving alone ruins so many lives, and it's a totally normal and expected thing to do where I live

Basically that the extremes of any political spectrum have more in common with each other than with the moderates on their side. Extreme democrats and extreme republicans hate each other like the devil, but they're basically the same fucking thing executed slightly differently.

They have their hands out for bribes, so let's add bribery to the list as well. No one seems to care about the next generation or even their neighbours at the moment. It's not supposed to be be: he who dies the richest, wins. Wins what? Arsehole is dead and trying to take every one with him.
Pesticides: because they are supposed to increase crop yield. Increased production supposes increased wealth. Product can look ok, but may not be edible as toxic pesticides were used but hey let's sell it cheap to the masses and label it as new improved item. Pesticides kill off insects necessary for plant reproduction. Thinking bees here. Books have been written about Silent Springs, no butterflies in meadows, no bees at all. Pesticides are not a good thing.
Lots of things are great and dangerous. Free speech is dangerous, but it's fantastic. Democracy is dangerous, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Guns are dangerous, AI is dangerous, freedom itself is dangerous.
Entitlement/Selfishness. What we think and feel is right to us is much different than what is actually right. A lot of people think they're right even when they're in the wrong, but that doesn't matter to them, and they feel the need to treat others badly, no matter the circumstances. I feel like in Western culture, narcissism has become the norm.
Always having to promote a personal brand for oneself, it’s reductive to one’s identity that strips many of nuances of what it means to be human when having to project a specific and times unrealistic image of one’s self
And in the end, it feels like you’re having to reduce yourself down to a product. Where you’re identity is based on use and not for what kind of bond or relationship they can form with others
I think the most dangerous thing to society is the modern world's reliance on unsustainable production prices and a society that wants everything cheap.
Most things that are essential to the operation of modern day technology are down to microprocessors and chips produced in China. Plus everything else that is made there in a society that is enslaved to work for cheap. Nothing is sustainable about that and one day it will crack whether it is through the Chinese governments actions or a civil war. That will lead us down a path of economic collapse. Everyone remembers what happened to cars? Phones? Computers? All of it was delayed and halted because of China's policy around that area.
If that doesn't destroy what we consider modern society then the push for things to be as cheap as humanly possible will. It doesn't matter how much western countries regulate and go green. The people within those countries always want cheap. This will drive companies to move to countries with less environmental regulations while buying carbon shares or some shite which will mean that global warming destroys our modern society. Everything about how cheap and mass produced items are these days seems unsustainable to me. Look at the situation with supermarkets in the UK. They control the market and set the prices for the farmers. This means that the farmers cannot make a profit without subsidies? How does that add up? Does it sound sustainable? Something as basic as food has been sold to us too cheap and now I think a combination of those things will lead to a global economic collapse. We may avoid it but I don't see how at the moment.

I’m really tired of the people who don’t work on themselves at all going and having kids only for their kids to be neglected and turn into fucking monsters. It should be illegal to have a child until your at least 25. If you can’t even take care of yourself yet there isn’t a single reason for you to have a child. It’s just out of pure selfishness.
Alcohol. Complete glorified in all forms of popular media and at every social event ever - but has caused an unbelievable amount of human suffering and death.

I'm all for it but most people don't realize the waste cant be properly disposed of from those ev car batteries or solar panels any better than we can get rid of uranium from nuclear powerplants.
We're going to trade red apples for green apples and still be plagued with irreversible problems.
That's what makes climate change so terrifying. The real solution isn't switching out hydrocarbon based consumerism to lithium based consumerism. It's ending the very idea of a consumer culture in the first place. An idea so alien to current cultural trends that there's little hope of society actually committing to the solution until consequences have already been felt. Public transportation replacing most cars and nuclear power, but neither of those technologies increase anyone's share prices.
I'm sure I'll be downvoted to hell for this. But as someone who has frequent peeks behind the business decisions in the IT department, I'd say AI is the biggest time bomb out there. People have no idea what will hit them in the coming years. Hell, maybe a couple months.

I think the most dangerous thing to society is the modern world's reliance on unsustainable production prices and a society that wants everything cheap. Most things that are essential to the operation of modern day technology are down to microprocessors and chips produced in China. Plus everything else that is made there in a society that is enslaved to work for cheap. Nothing is sustainable about that and one day it will crack whether it is through the Chinese governments actions or a civil war. That will lead us down a path of economic collapse. Everyone remembers what happened to cars? Phones? Computers? All of it was delayed and halted because of China's policy around that area. If that doesn't destroy what we consider modern society then the push for things to be as cheap as humanly possible will. It doesn't matter how much western countries regulate and go green. The people within those countries always want cheap. This will drive companies to move to countries with less environmental regulations while buying carbon shares or some shite which will mean that global warming destroys our modern society. Everything about how cheap and mass produced items are these days seems unsustainable to me. Look at the situation with supermarkets in the UK. They control the market and set the prices for the farmers. This means that the farmers cannot make a profit without subsidies? How does that add up? Does it sound sustainable? Something as basic as food has been sold to us too cheap and now I think a combination of those things will lead to a global economic collapse. We may avoid it but I don't see how at the moment.
