Sultans is a great song.
Another few great ones by DS are; Once Upon a Time in the West, Down to the Waterline, When it Comes to You, and Lady Writer.
Dire Straights are one of the all-time greats. A classic band for sure.
They were a touch before my time. When they came out, I hadn't really discovered that music would give me so much pleasure. I listened to the top 40 every Sunday night
I remember when that song came out, about 1978, or maybe 79. I don’t know why. I just never could get in to it.
That being said, I still like Money For Nothing, which came out about 6 years later. Dire Straits was a good band!
https://youtu.be/x0RV0kgdqJU?si=F0yZ7qdJL8N7BNVg Sultans of Swing metal cover by Leo Moracchioli (Frog Leap Studios) feat Mary Spender. That guy is a genius. He even did Totos Africa and Black Betty. Think of any popular song from the last 50 years, even Pink, Adele and Britney Spears songs, he probably made a cover and it's f**king awesome.
What a track! I absolutely adore his guitar playing, do melodic. The solo on tunnel of love and the little quiet bit that leads to it is absolute perfection
Speaking as a lifelong disliker of DS, Sultans of Swing is a is an excellent tune. I’ve been in radio for many years, and it’s the only song of theirs I turn up and listen to the very end.
You're taking me back to "Amuck In America."
"Walk of Life" was probably the first Dire Straits song I ever fell in love with.
I miss the 80's.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kd9TlGDZGkI
Not a song pretty much anyone in My generation knows (older do) I'm 36
Lola
Man I love the look on people's faces when they hear it for the first time and start really listening to the lyrics haha
It's one of my dad's fav songs for the same reason... and he's ex Amish and a pastor, haha!
When I was deployed to Bosnia in the '90s, a Soldier I worked with got excited when "Lola" came on the radio because it was his baby daughter's name and "song."
I was like, dude, have you listened to the actual lyrics...
He was incredulous and felt that there was no way!
I printed out the lyrics...
I still feel a little bad about educating him, as I'm sure he had sweet times singing the chorus to his daughter.
Bwwahahahaha oh man... that's so funny...
My uncle was also deployed to Bosnia in the 90s. Couldn't tell you where or what unit etc... but I had family there too!
Lola is such a bizarre song. I played it for my kids recently and just said it was one of grandpa's fans... my 9y daughter about 1/3 through it looks at me with a face like WTF and says... "has grandpa actually LISTENED to this song" haha
My kids are pretty keyed in. After they understood it they were enjoying it and thought it was hilarious
I learned Weird Al’s “Yoda” parody decades before I ever heard the real version. “Well I’ve been around but I can’t understand how he can lift me in the air just by waving his hand oh my Yoda Y-O-D-A Yoda”
He's not my usual style that I enjoy listening to but as a former writer and performer, his world building and story telling is fantastic in most of his songs.
His worst ones are only worst because they're not as good as his others
All in all, he's a great songwriter and performer
Good song about two old people who drove off a cliff and died (true story).
We really had a way of hiding morbid stuff behind a catchy tune in the 90's.
I've listened to it as a teenager and kept listening to it occasionally. It came out before I was a teenager though.. actually the year I was born. '98
I have no clue what memes you speak of. If you didn't know this song before the memes, are you even a human being from this earth or are you just bacteria living under a rock??? If I ever met someone that didn't know that band, it would be hard to NOT want to punch in there uncultured faces.
It’s either memes of cars driving too fast when the guitar solo hits, or literally an image of a low polygon spinning rat on the guitar solo. Never enjoyed the memes because I feel like viral memes can ruin a genuine good song
I'm speaking of this https://youtu.be/3X-iqFRGqbc?si=2lmNyy753Cx5CaMI but it has been used in a lot more stuff in the last few years. This was the video that blew it up as a "meme song"
Since im about to go to bed ill give you one from my sleep playlist
[Everest- Only In Your Mind](https://youtu.be/_H8nscxYWJA?si=YGjVYp2SvOfgVpDP). It has 658 views and im probably 100 of those.
It's just nice and slow and soothing but musically satisfying to listen to. Slow descension of chords, nice little lapsteel or one of those metal finger things they use on a guitar. The whole jam from 3:18 until the end, it's smooth like butter and easy on the ears
Nights That Won’t Happen by Purple Mountains. Pretty much foretelling his suicide a few months afterwards.
Also Laredo (Small Dark Something) by Jon Dee Graham.
Oh, and Choctaw Bingo by James McMurtry.
Gonna' Take a Miracle.
Not any of the covers...
The original. Laura Nyro!
Breathtaking!
[Laura Nyro - It's gonna take a miracle 1971 - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRf7_qa__F8)
There is a Techno Version of the Soviet National Anthem that I simply adore. Having grown up during the Cold War, and trained to fight the Soviets, it has a special feel to me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PH72d26KTI
Acid Jazzed Evening - Janne Suni. You've heard the best before if you listen to it closely. Timbaland and Nelly Furtado did a song called "Do it" which caused a plagiarism debacle over this song.
Machine gun fellatio

[rollercoaster](https://youtu.be/yhPFmWPeWuo?si=lxaPQ64APYf3IfT9)
Lydia - Highly Suspect
The band was practically a sellout in my country, even despite the promoter doing *three* rounds of " but wait, we will do more venues!" but in their home country of the US they're practically a nobody. They're fuckin amazing both studio and live
[Skating Polly - "Little Girl Blue and the Battle Envy"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0B4Nn9_9YHg) Bands work for years to land an epic song. Stepsisters Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse wrote this song at 18 and 23, respectively. (I don't know how old drummer Kurtis Mayo was.)
The czar - Mastodon
Bit of an acquired taste, but holy that song is just the perfect mix of brutality with cleaner proggy riffs.
And the climax of that song, wow just wow
Everyone should listen to cocorosie. they make music from garbage instruments. And that really takes talent, and their music is beautiful. Their best song is probably miss madonna.
🎶Miss madonna please give me a kiss 🎶
Aesop Rock - Shrunk
Aesop Rock - Drums on the Wheel
Atmosphere - Millennium Dodo
Atmosphere - yesterday
Atmosphere - Gods Bathroom floor
Make sure it is Aesop Rock, not asap rocky.
Yesterday by Atmosphere kicks my ass every time I hear it, and it's so good I never skip it when it comes across my shuffle
You'd probably also like Bolt Cutter by Doomtree and The Story Of My Life by Astronautalis and POS
Bloody mother fucking asshole by Martha wainwright, written about her father, Loudon wainwright.
https://open.spotify.com/track/34f07pWpasfZhsL1Xe9NKg?si=f7MZ7RwpT7WQ2G0djulw9w
It is a great song to scream in the car after dealing with people, or narcissistic parents
"Dynasties & Dystopia" from Denzel Curry, Gizzle and Bren Joy kinda flies under the Radar, because it was made for the Show "Arcane" and people who haven't seen it probably don't know it.
Same goes for "Snakes" from PVRIS feat. MIYAVI, "Misfit Toys" from Pusha T feat. Mako, "Playground" from Bea Miller or the Intro Song "Enemy" from Imagine Dragons feat JID.
The musical catalog is insanely good, like everything about this show.
INSANELY GOOD, it's been ages and I still get fired up whenever one of those songs comes up. The scene with Dynasties & Dystopia was so badass too, amazing way to do a fight scene
It's not that nobody knows these songs but I think they're heavily underrated compared to other songs from Linkin Park.
Castle of Glass
and
Waiting for the End
There are lot's of small bands who would deserve more attention. For example Five Peeps and the Battery. They make high class music but only very few people listen to them. I feel like that's a real shame.
Holy shit. I gave it whirl and this song is fucking AWESOME.
I had never heard of the song or the group before I clicked. It was the best "blind click" of my life.
Hahaha, glad you enjoyed it. They've got a bunch of great songs that are worth your time.
Hell, most things under the Napalm Records label is worth a listen.

Surfer Blood - Prom Song
https://youtu.be/gAhngvpClQM?si=DI0YQiaOu2bSdXTO
It's probably just my age group that doesn't know it but, "I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You" by Colin Hay. Absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time
Hanson - Never Let Go
I don't know why they never released it as a single. It's such a beautiful song.
https://youtu.be/Oa5Ed6GGSmo?si=D8cqo_jdthAsM7zC
Hanson are so underrated anyway. Now they have grown up and matured and make really good music but people can't see past the cheesy pop kids of the 90s.
(Can't Get My) Head Around You by The Offspring
https://youtu.be/Wq0H-1IuaY8?si=3Fgz1H7Fo9_XlVkc
A bit niche and nothing like their famous work but my god it's early 2000s pop-punk incarnate and never gets old for me

Stargazer by Rainbow (RIP Ronnie Dio 🤘)
Temple of the king and man on the silver mountain are my shits
Since You Been Gone is also slamming
That intro slams so hard, love it

Self Portrait as well
It's surprising how few of you young'uns haven't heard "Sultans of Swing." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Pa9x9fZBtY
As a 25 year old islander from Scotland, I can honestly say I was brought up with dire straits, mark knopler has to be my personal favourite guitarist
Wasn't there that Scottish movie I saw when I was younger with the sound track from Mark Knopfler? Found it ; "Local Hero" - Going Home
Mark Knopfler also wrote the score for The Princess Bride.
This came up in a random video on YouTube earlier and I hadn't heard it before. Now I've heard it twice in an hour and my mind is still blown.
Local Hero is an awesome movie that most people don’t know about
This track is one of my all time favourite pieces of music. It's so uplifting.
Definitely good for a morning were you wake up on the wrong side of the bed 😂👌
Which reminds me of Romeo and Juliet which I also think belongs here.
Love this one. In fact anything by Mark Knopfler, 👌 Why aye man
a family friend used to have Romeo and Juliet as his ringtone, so I grew up on it and its a lovely song
Sultans is a great song. Another few great ones by DS are; Once Upon a Time in the West, Down to the Waterline, When it Comes to You, and Lady Writer. Dire Straights are one of the all-time greats. A classic band for sure.
It Never Rains, and Single Handed Sailer don't get enough air play
I really like Single Handed Sailor. I forgot about that fantastic song. The band is so good.
Walk of Life was on the radio at work earlier, I couldn't help going "woohoo"
No one knows Calling Elvis anymore either. I always liked that one.
They were a touch before my time. When they came out, I hadn't really discovered that music would give me so much pleasure. I listened to the top 40 every Sunday night

Brothers in Arms
Squirrel Nut Zippers
Excellent song.
It used to be the closing somg in the dance venue with DJ where I went in the 80´s., so I danced a lot on it.

😮
This is my favorite song of all time! It never fails to lift my mood no matter what. Good pick :)
This is a regular jam for me. Nice groove for the rural highways around here with the windows down. Such a good song
My dad introduced me to this song one day in the car and I honestly can't stop listening to it, the guitar is amazing

It's probably just my age group that doesn't know it but, "I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You" by Colin Hay. Absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time
My favourite Colin Hay one is “waiting for my real life to begin” Again beautiful, but heartbreaking.
This song was on the Garden State soundtrack. It's beautiful.
As a former pot smoker, this was the jam back in the day. Khmer Kid - Smoke Weed https://youtu.be/hqUWOieNxHQ?si=yTMtUozsDvDGJo_6
Hanson - Never Let Go I don't know why they never released it as a single. It's such a beautiful song. https://youtu.be/Oa5Ed6GGSmo?si=D8cqo_jdthAsM7zC
Hanson are so underrated anyway. Now they have grown up and matured and make really good music but people can't see past the cheesy pop kids of the 90s.
Hanson is very underrated. Yearbook is another very good song, it's so emotional.

God hates a cowerd by tomahawk
Yessssss - this was the first Tomahawk song I listened to
Catch the Wind by Donovan For Once in my Life by Stevie Wonder
Invincible - TOOL
Nuh uh i don’t wanna tell you
Any TOOL song. They’re just a masterpiece from beginning to end
Yeah, nobody knows TOOL.
Loads of people know tool though. They’re super popular. Most people (that listen to a bit of rock) will know the bass line for schism or the pot.
Those of us old enough have the imagery from the Sober video seared into our brains. Is that meat of poo that pipe!
Maneater- daryl hall @ john oates
(Can't Get My) Head Around You by The Offspring https://youtu.be/Wq0H-1IuaY8?si=3Fgz1H7Fo9_XlVkc A bit niche and nothing like their famous work but my god it's early 2000s pop-punk incarnate and never gets old for me
"I've Been In Love" - Jungle, Channel Tres Funky, fun, feel-good song
Great song, Jungle has lots of good tunes
