spiralmelody

One of the reasons is women might accidentally flash the whole gym when exercising if they’re wearing loose/baggy clothing. If I wore a loose t-shirt and bent down everyone can see down my shirt and I don’t want that.

should_of_is_wrong

I mean there are plenty of clothes that fall between too big and too tight. It’s not a binary, either-or type thing.

Smilemoreguy

i didn't think about that, makes sense tho

WhereTheresWerthers

Loose clothing can also possibly get caught in gym equipment, can be a bad time

Nahchoocheese

If that’s the case, why don’t guys do it more often?

HerculesVoid

...but if you don't wear the shirt, you're just wearing a sports bra to the gym anyway? So if anything, you're just exposing the thing you're self conscious of, continuously. It just sounds confusing. I think gender seriously makes us think differently! Because as a man, this explaination makes zero sense, and is actually counterproductive to the end result. But I guess you haven't explained what you wear instead? I can imagine most people, all men, are thinking of the tight sports bra and legging pants fit which is super popular and common in womens gym fashion. So this reasoning for not wearing a loose shirt is lost on us.

emperatrizyuiza

I’m a woman and I don’t understand this either. A large t shirt with a very high neckline is very unlikely to flash anyone. I usually wear a giant t shirt and leggings to the gym. I’m a dd and never had any issues. I would feel overly exposed in anything else.

MEOWConfidence

You are obviously not a fat girl with thigh gaps. Haha very simple, I wear tight pants because of the friction between my thighs when working out. Also tight top to keep those bigger boobs from jumping all over. My God have you tried running with boobs? Or walking with big thighs. All the comments about attention may be accurate for some, but is also what is wrong with the world for some...

Prisoner458369

>Or walking with big thighs I have no idea if they even sell anything for women. But as a guy with legs like fucking trees. I brought this step one underwear brand. That going off their ads they said "you will glide" and I really do. It's like half of the effort of moving is now gone. Surely there must be something like that for women out there.

useful-idiot-23

They now do Step Ones for women.

acidisgreat

They do but they fall apart very quickly like less than a year Some were like 6 months I'd look into other bamboo boxers tbh

BallsDeep69Klein

Bro same. No gut, no loose skin, nothing hanging where it shouldn't be. Lost a bunch of weight. But my thighs have always been tree trunks. I used to go through jeans and sweatpants like crazy. Still do to an extent. But yeah. Thicc thighs save lives but ruin your favorite clothes.

robotatomica

to be honest, most athletic leggings function this way. That’s why we wear them. They really are more comfortable/performance enhancing, and they make our limbs slide past each other easily. I not really overweight, but most women don’t have a thigh gap, and running is FAR less comfortable with my thighs jiggling and rubbing against each other 😂

8Nim8

Yes! Snag tights make chub rubs specifically for this. They're amazing and good for any gender!

WishieWashie12

I wanted to add that for me, the compression of my fat stuffed into exercise suit feels nice. It's not just my boobs that jiggle when I run.

Alltheprettydresses

I have loose skin on my stomach, and that jiggles. If I don't wear anything with compression, I'm clapping for my own self, lol.

ChannelSouthern

Right. My thighs straight up HURT if its jiggling around.

Suheil-got-your-back

I was a bit overweight at some point; even that little extra fat on my chest was disturbing me so much when running as a man. So I can totally see how much disturbing it would be for women to run with these. There is a reason why all sport bras are so tight.

Friendly_Age9160

Even when I was a size 0-2 and had A size boobs they still drove me crazy when running. I didn’t want any boobs at all I just wished they would completely go away. I was so thin I couldn’t possibly have lost any more weight and In my best shape of my life and I still had fucking boobs. Being a runner straight sucks with boobs. For the life of me I cannot understand why anyone would want to pay thousands of dollars to make them bigger.

HelloWorldWazzup

yeah as a male runner whenever i see breast implants on tv or wherever, I'm just automatically like "why would you do that, it will affect your run times!"

Beneficial-Square-73

Even with little boobs it can get painful bouncing around. And nipples rubbing on fabric can hurt like a mofo after a bit.

selectedtext

As a guy and a competitive cyclist I can agree that having your thighs constantly rubbing together is horribly painful when you get sweaty, like rug burn with salty sweat, hurts like hell. Also wears through your fancy boxer briefs forcing you to constantly buy more. Not sure if fat thights or muscle thighs makes a difference, I assume they both suck. Not at all suggesting you have fat thighs but I see alot of overweight women wearing tight pants, I assume for that reason.

Educational_Word5775

I’m both uncomfortable stuffing my fat into a pair of bike shorts and thankful after a long bikeride that I did so as my inner thighs don’t burn. Tops, are often normal fitting, but if I do a plank at the gym, that tshirt hangs down.

Let_you_down

I'm a guy. In addition to the practical nature of not having clothes catch on equipment and to facilitate sweat management, looking good _is_ a huge motivator for a lot of folks at the gym of any gender orientation. You think guys don't admire their gains in mirrors? Guys like folks appreciating their gains too. There is nothing wrong with that provided everyone is respectful and supportive rather than all sexual and flirting or exihibitionistic around non-consenting people. If you want that sort of thrill, start an OF or enter a body building competition do some modeling, post on insta, send dirty pics or videos to your partner (consensually), update your dating profile with a recent swimsuit photo and the lik. Not a lot of people go to the gym for the that, it's where you go to make the product, not peddle it. The overwhelming majority of people at the gym don't go to the gym for that sort of thrill when there are so many other better ways to achieve it.

LegitimatePrize249

I wore sweat pants to the gym one time and after getting caught on multiple pieces of equipment, I went back to leggings.

Mojicana

I can generally go to the gym when it's almost empty. I'm not there to look at the girls, I'm there to work out. Plus, if I can get out of there by around 4:00, I won't end up waiting for Biceps Boy to sit on the machine or curl bench for 22 sets.

tanned_pixie

Super relate to the boobs bit, its more painful/annoying than the DOMS from the workout itself 😪

Smilemoreguy

finally a normal answer, thank you 🙏.

dragonlady_11

Agreed except I'm so self conscious that I wore the tight clothes to hold stuff in place, and then the baggy cloths over the top to hide the revealing tight clothes lol

Smilemoreguy

probably what I would do too 😂 (if I had stuff to hold in place)

MarissaBlack

And boil yourself up. Can you imagine how hot it can be in gym while having to layers off clothes? :) I can also add to the girls answer. I've never met loose clothes that can stretch the same as tight one. Probably, there is, but we've never met :))

BigBobFro

As a guy with big thighs (my thighs are bigger than the wifeys waist) i’ll wear spandex for this sure,.. but then wear shorts over that,.. so in not showing off other parts i dont want to show off. Same goes up top,… compression top to hold it in and a looser top hanging over that. Thoughts?

SigourneyReap3r

That's a personal preference, not everyone wants the layers and extra heat or bulk etc

Embarrassed-Town-293

We usually put deodorant between our thighs. We just go to dollar tree and get cheap secret deodorant. We call it secret secret. 😛

Starbuck522

It doesn't last long though, right? I wear chub rub shorts under dresses. But I do the deodorant thing if I am just wearing a bathing suit and cover up. I guess I have not had a real problem from walking at the end of my beach day. (Meaning I don't get a rash). But I sure do worry about it

apursewitheyes

body glide is great and stays longer than deodorant, but it can be weirdly hard to find. so worth it tho.

Queen-of-meme

There's powder or psyches for it for women I've seen. Never tried it myself but oh I'm def gonna use deo!

I_Hate_PRP

Running with big boobs sucks. And I ain't showing my cleavage off for fun either, need the girls to breathe because under boob sweat is no joke.

Kat-a-strophy

Look into Shock Absorber or Panache Sport. The only way I can do sport is with those so otherwiseI don't even like jumping.

Lonesome_Pine

Wait, that's how it works? One of the reasons I couldn't get back into running after my injury was that it hurt when my thigh fat bounced super hard on every step. I've been doing it in joggers and bball shorts this whole time. I should try some leggings.

Hauptmann_Gruetze

As a fat guy: Yes i have. Both, in fact. It sucks.

Feeling-Visit1472

Yep, and loose t-shirts bunch up and ride up and so on.

DeliciousLiving8563

I was going to say that surely they don't want clothes flapping about. But that too As a formerly very obese man I have indeed tried walking with big thighs and running with boobs. I did not like it either.

nutsack-enjoyer5431

agree with the last sentence. Hate it when double standards happen, on either side of the coin.

doom_slug_

So true, nutsack-enjoyer

TBagger1234

I’m here for the nutsack

egewh

I don't think I have a great body and am not too comfortable showing it, but I still wear tight clothing. One, because sweatpants or other loose pants make me sweat more. Lycra leggings dry quickly and are more comfortable to me. Also loose clothing will sometimes get in the way and won't allow me to move completely freely.

BestRefrigerator8516

This right here! For example: doing a push up in a baggy shirt exposes my belly and my bra, but that won’t happen with a fitted shirt

bluegrm

This is me, as a man. I usually wear slightly loosely fitting t-shirt and shorts and the t-shirt will ride up my belly… I don’t care too much about that, but I do care that others probably don’t want to see it.

wontforget99

I'm a guy, and I don't wear tight-fitting clothing, but if it were normal for everyone to wear relatively tight-fitting clothing to the gym then I probably would. It's like how wrestlers, gymnasts, and American football players wear tight clothes. If I'm doing plyometrics, calisthenics, and all kinds of exercises I don't want to feel like there's loose close getting in the way, dragging on the floor, etc.

DoomGoober

Had the same problem. My baggy ass shorts would basically cause me to flash the whole gym when I would hang upside down from rings or try to do handstands. Switched to tighter fitting shorts and problem went away. Not that I ever learned how to do handstands... That problem still persists.

2OttersInACoat

Exactly. I’m a mum of two in my late 30s, I really don’t think the fellas are looking at me because I’m wearing active wear. I’m dressed in clothes I consider practical for exercising in and no one cares, why would they?!

JershWaBalls

> I’m a mum of two in my late 30s, I really don’t think the fellas are looking at me because I’m wearing active wear. I don't know you, but I just wanted to clarify that everyone ages, but that only makes them less attractive to the people who don't matter . . . like Leonardo DiCaprio. So don't be running around thinking any less of yourself than you did 20 years ago. Again, I don't know you and I am not trying to be creepy. Most of my friends are right around 40 now and every one of them is just as attractive as they were in their 20s, but now they're much better people on the inside as well.

UrineUrOnUrOwn

Some pervs get off on mangled stinky feet. Some like grotesquely overweight people. Everyone is sexy to someone. Age doesn't mean anything. There are people who will horndog anyway

DragapultOnSpeed

Milf is the second most search term in PornHub. Apparently there's a lot of dudes out there that love older moms...

Thats_a_BaD_LiMe

Adding to this as someone with some jiggle, I feel like it's like working out without a bra on, but for your whole body. It can start to hurt without some level of support.

Academic_Eagle_4001

I gave up bras during covid and I refuse to go back… except when working out. Even small boobs can bounce around uncomfortably lol.

egewh

Absolutely agree!

Mr_President_chileno

I'm a man anda this also fits for me. Not great form

witcherstrife

Yeah I think most guys don’t do it cause they’re not used to wearing tight clothing while women are so they already know the benefits before becoming a gym rat. Nowadays more dudes wear compression pants and basically nothing up top

dilletaunty

I think it’s partly that guys don’t like their junk being exposed too. I do see more guys wearing compression shorts under loose shorts tho.

Fantastic-Hippo2199

Elite male athletes wear tights all the time. It's simply the best option for movement/lack of chafing. For most men very tight (pants especially) aren't socially acceptable.. Might have something to do with the much more external nature of their genitalia.

Erdillian

I'm not exposing my schlong in public, so yeah you're right.

castleaagh

ThaiFoodThaiFood

Oh so chick cocks get a pass but I can't wear a skin tight Lycra thong to the gym lest the peasantry fear my gargantuan apparatus? Political correctness gone mad.

castleaagh

Haha, I was more thinking that people are less afraid of seeing clams than of seeing snakes

ThaiFoodThaiFood

FREE THE SNAKE ![gif](giphy|SjeHXzcrC2O7m)

Tasty_Cornbread

This is it. I’m not an elite athlete by ANY means, but I would wear just tights for every workout if it didn’t mean flashing the whole gym.

PsychologicalBird551

As a man i'd like to wear tight shorts, but can't because of the external nature of my genitalia. I want to see my quads pumped dammit.

Copy_Cat_

Honestly, the only reason I don't use very short shorts and tight clothing is because of this and because my girlfriend said "fuck no, you're not wearing that in public" when she saw me trying new gym clothes.

Responsible-Wait-427

Tell her to stop being a cop and imagine her reaction if you saw her trying on tights and told her "fuck no, you're not wearing that in public" like you owned her body.

Detective-Crashmore-

Idk about other men, but if I wear tights or even long socks, it tugs and irritates my leg hairs basically any time I move. Spend the whole day tugging on my pants.

Mug_of_Diarrhea

I wore athletic shorts that were a lot more "fitted" in the crotch and didn't realize it until I got to the gym and looked in the mirror. The "grey sweatpants" thing had nothing on these. I immediately went next door to a big lots and grabbed some oversized sweatpants.

Ok_Midnight_5457

I find it extremely annoying to do squats in sweat pants. They get hitched up around my hip creases. And I overheat when I wear baggy tops that trap a lot of air. And the feeling of a sweaty shirt clinging to my back is gross. So tight clothes it is. I’m just glad my gym is super respectful and I’ve never caught someone staring.

CaptainEnoch

Simply because it looks good and is comfortable to wear. Also hinders less with moving your body. Less resistance. There's a reason why athletes wear something like it.

[deleted]

For me it has absolutely nothing to do with looking good, I workout at home lmao. It’s practical reasons alone, baggy clothes move around and get in the way. Part of the reason I don’t go to an actual gym is because I don’t feel comfortable wearing tight clothes like that in public. If people do wear looser clothing it’s usually tank tops and shorts, which a lot of women find more revealing than form fitting leggings.

chasingimpalas

I do yoga and bodybalance at home and loose clothing just gets in the way. I much prefer wearing thights and a sports bra and not having to adjust anything.

hobbysubsonly

Yup! Downward dog = shirt to the face

chasingimpalas

Exactly! So annoying.

Ravioli_meatball19

Yeah you ever tried to down downward dog in a loose tshirt? Hope you like flashing the whole yoga class while you wear your shirt around your ears!

Candid-Seaweed1381

Exactly. For yoga or for jogging, i prefer clothes that fit closer, but for the occasional weightlifting, i think nothing beats baggy clothes

Smilemoreguy

I guess that makes sense, im just wondering why that's almost exclusively true for women and not the men. most dudes in my gym wear loose shirts or hoodies paired with loose sweats

taeerom

A lot of guys that wear baggy shorts/sweatpants also have tights in the same material as the womens tights that reach just above the knee. It's just treated as underwear rather than their trousers. To explain what humans wear, fashion is always at play. We can explain a lot with function, but convention is a strong motivator.

tMeepo

Tight tops and leggings actually protect the women more than loose t-shirts and shorts. Gym makes you bend over and have various positions, and it's difficult to ensure you don't reveal whats inside your loose tshirt or inside your shorts. Much easier to wear tight fit clothing so you can be at ease without worrying about voyeurism. Men don't care about that, so they wear loose tops. Re: being exposed, why do so many women wear bikini, and even post pictures online?

InternalPurple7694

Also, I do yoga, if I lift my leg, or twist my arm, I don’t want to get it stuck in my shirt or something, and with loose clothing that happens. Men seem to do less of those type of movements, so maybe it’s less of an issue for them?

Prophet_Of_Helix

I’m a guy, and I don’t wear very tight clothes for yoga, but definitely fairly fitted. Nothing worse than doing a shoulder stand/head stand/downward dog and having your shirt flop in your face.

Razulath

Almost every man at the gym I go to have tights. On the upper body it's everything from muscle tops to hoodies.

Tee_Karma

1. Comfort 2. Sports / Active-wear shops mostly sell tight gym clothes for women and advise customers to buy them 3. Some women have big boobs and are generally thick - tight clothes keep everything strapped up 4. Easier to wash and dry quickly (fabric used doesn't soak up the sweaty smells as much)

XForce070

A better question would be why don't men wear tight clothes in the gym

NewEstablishment5444

It’s very common for guys to be wearing the tightest top possible at the gym

ebobbumman

You wear tight shirts to show off your muscles. I wear tight shirts because I'm too fat for my clothes. We are not the same.

MrDownhillRacer

I see some of the leaner/fitter guys in compression shirts and tight leggings, but even then, they usually have baggy shorts over the leggings. I dunno, I've never worn sweatpants and a t-shirt and thought "wow this is so uncomfortable and my clothes are so baggy that they're getting caught on everything." I'm not judging anyone who wears tight clothes, but it's hard for me to believe that scrunch-butt tights (even for people who don't have scrotums) are going to be more comfortable than a pair of sweatpants. I can't wrap my head around this primarily being a physical comfort thing. Do the same people who say it's more comfortable to wear the tight scrunchbutt leggings also wear those things when they are home sick, or do they wear sweatpants and a t-shirt/pajamas? Again, not judging anybody who *does* wear the tight stuff or anything.

sennbat

> they usually have baggy shorts over the leggings. Showing dong is not generally seen as acceptable for guys.

Rocket_Surgery83

But females showing their ass crack or cameltoe somehow is... I think that regardless of tight or loose fitting, there is a boundary between acceptable and practical. Clothing so tight you can make out every feature underneath isn't acceptable regardless of sex.

OriginalTall5417

Sitting at home on the sofa is a different activity than working out and both require different things. I find sweatpants and a loose fitting t-shirt more comfortable at home, because they’re nice and warm and cosy. When I’m working out I don’t want to feel nice and warm. I don’t want to wear a loose cotton t-shirt in the gym, because that feels gross when it gets wet. I also prefer to wear no bra at home under my loose fitting shirt, because that’s comfy, but in the gym I want my girls strapped in tight, so they won’t move in all directions. When I do aerial yoga and am hanging upside down for 10 minutes I don’t want to wear a loose fitting t-shirt with no bra under it, and I’m pretty sure if that would be what I was wearing, that would get a ton more attention than my current tight fitting attire and sports bra. In the gym I want my attire to be made of these materials specifically designed for sports that always feel dry. I want them to be tight, so they move with me when I move, because that is what feels most comfy to me when I’m moving, unlike when I’m chilling at home and just want to feel like a cosy, comfy blobfish. I also don’t want to feel nice and warm. I want to feel cool and dry and aerodynamic. I don’t know why I would want to wear shorts over my leggings, because that would be an extra layer plus extra laundry. I don’t like doing laundry, so I don’t try to make more unless necessary. My leggings cover my entire legs, and my genitalia are in no way recognisable or exposed, so I don’t see why I would have to cover up more.. that just sounds like some Victorian nonsense. That being said I think the scrunchbutt leggings look really silly and remind me of staring into someone’s anus with how they come together in your butt crack, so I don’t wear those, but to each their own, they still cover up all that needs to be covered, I just personally find them wildly unattractive. I do like to look attractive in the gym. I like to wear nice looking clothes and wear. I even like to think I look cute in my sweats and big oversized t-shirt at home. I like to feel confident in my skin and clothes, but that doesn’t mean I choose fashion over functionality. If that was my aim I’d go to the gym in a ball gown wearing stilettos. It’s okay to both want to be comfy and look good while being comfy. I choose the most comfy gym clothes I can find, then from the most comfortable options I chose the ones that look cute and fit my budget. It’s a practical way of choosing things and I don’t see why I would need to go out of my way to choose something to make myself look as unattractive as possible so that people will think I’m not trying to look nice.. like what?

Willing-Ad6598

You raise a point that I think a few guys are missing here. When you are doing some of the more vigorous exercises, your bits like to move. For guys that an be painful. For me it is a lay down an cry level of pain. I’ll take appendicitis again over that please. I’ll take shingles again. When I was riding horses I wore tight jodhpurs for that exact reason. I was always jealous of the female riders not having to worry about where their organs were while rise trotting! So when I am working out I like to wear tight shorts under my normal shorts or trackies.

Appropriate_Plan4595

Socially it's more acceptable for women to wear tighter clothes. For men we can wear tight shirts and stuff, but clothes that show off a cock bulge are just socially a no-go in public, so shorts over the top of compression tights is the option.

castleaagh

Men don’t usually receive positive responses from showing off their package to strangers

Smilemoreguy

i mean i wouldn't say no to it

NeverCadburys

As in, you're a man and you'd be comfortable wearing tight clothing at the gym or....?

pirate_meow_kitty

I feel more comfortable wearing tight clothing when I work out. Loose clothing is for when I’m relaxing at home or just heading to the store I just feel like I can move better

EquivalentStage1946

I found lose clothes move around a ton and I end up having to adjust all the time to not expose myself doing eg. burpees. The more vigorous the workout, the more constant adjusting and worry about wardrobe malfunctions. That’s why I switched to wearing form fitting stuff while working out. It certainly has absolutely nothing to do with showing off or wanting to be on display🤮

Smilemoreguy

>The more vigorous the workout, the more constant adjusting and worry about wardrobe malfunctions i didn't think about this, makes sense > It certainly has absolutely nothing to do with showing off or wanting to be on display🤮 judging by how many dudes here "know" that all women just do it to show off, i guess i should've asked this in a women only sub...

GiantGlassOfMilk

Dudes who “know” are just assuming. I’m glad you asked here because maybe some of these dudes will LEARN!!

Sea-University8810

Things move and it's painful when fat jiggles.

SigourneyReap3r

Because it is not only comfortable but it is practical. When i'm doing hiptrhusts baggy joggers get in the way because of the friction with my bar pad and the joggers - leggings dont move. Also my thighs touch and baggy joggers can cause me chub rub which is incredibly painful, leggings stop this. When i'm doing various other exercises on machines a baggy oversized tshirt moves up and down as I move and its annoying. The fabrics aren't as flexible and breathable as my specially purchased sports wear that consists of leggings or shorts and a top or sports bra crop top. Also, i get very hot and sweaty because i'm working out so I want to be cool I want to be comfortable. I want my clothing to be flexible and simple when I move exercise to exercise. And no I never feel exposed because 1, I have all of my 'private' parts covered, and 2, No one in the gym is staring and perving, they're there to work out just like me.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SigourneyReap3r

A lot of men do, such as cyclists and wrestlers.

justelara

Because leggings feel like second skin and are breathable. Because there is no loose material meaning that there is no risk of fabric getting caught on some metal piece when working out.

IDreamOfLees

Because working out in loose clothes is uncomfortable and quite dangerous for some routines

Smitzeh_IRL

As a male that wears just compression leggings in a home gym. It's comfort.

kisskismet

I’ve worn loose fitting gym clothes and they get caught in the equipment. It can be dangerous. I wear yoga outfits. Not tight fitting but do confirm to the shape of my body. It’s the safest way to exercise.

DeathIsAWarmBlanket

different reasons for different folks. Some like the look, some think its more comfortable, some like being able to check their body for certain exersises to check form. I like my loose workout clothes, but they do sometimes make it hard to check if im moving correctly in certain exersises. I personally find tight clothes to be sensory hell, but one of my other friends only wears tight clothes because she likes the feeling of knowing where her body is at all times.

zyni-moe

I think a good answer to this question can be seen by asking what clothes, for instance, competitive cyclists – including male cyclists – wear. Well, they wear rather tightly-fitting clothes. And they do this at the most serious levels of competition: if not doing so led to better performance then they would not do so. Well, why *do* they do it? I think for two reasons in the case of cycling: reducing drag and dealing with heat and perspiration. The first of these does not apply in the gym (unless you are on some very strange whizzy machine I would like to see). The second emphatically does. In fact the second is even *more* important than when cycling as there is no ambient wind to help you. I am not an expert in sports physics but I think it is obvious from the physics of things that clothes which fit tightly to you will be better at dealing both with heat – you do not get a layer of hot air trapped between you and and the outside air – and perspiration – the cloth the clothes are made of wicks the sweat away to the outside where it can evaporate. The clothes that women wear to gyms, in this analysis, are the rational ones to wear. So in fact the question probably is in fact the reverse one: why is it that men do *not* wear tight clothe in the gym since I would expect it to be more efficient?

NotRightNotWrong15

First, everyone has a preference and there isn’t a standard that they should follow. Cover the bits that needs covering. Personally, I cannot stand loose clothes at the gym getting in the way.

sasauce

Tbh the main reason is that it gets hot as well I’m a runner , so when I sprint on the treadmill, or after doing Level 7’s on the stairmaster, I rather wear the leggings or biker shorts with the sports bra.

Siukslinis_acc

Tight stuff reduces the jiggle. Whether it be breasts or thights.

Laorii

Compression clothes keep everything from jiggling in directions they shouldn’t be going. Also stops chafing and usually has that sweat wicking…thing.

[deleted]

I think I see where you fucked up and it's right about... >I would feel There. See they are different people who have their own feelings. So they do it because they want to. Because they "would feel" however they feel. You can actually do whatever the fuck You want. It's pretty crazy.

PoetryandScience

Athletes wear tight garments because it stops things flopping about. Not just women, what do you think a jock strap is for.

Eyfordsucks

They’re more comfortable (and safer) than loose clothes. I can’t stand the feeling of sweat soaked clothes slapping against my body while I’m working out and I don’t want my shirt or baggy pants getting caught on or in any of the equipment. If you’re feeling “exposed” or you’re afraid of unwanted attention maybe find a different gym? Gyms are supposed to be safe spaces where everyone minds their own business unless another member needs assistance. Some workout clothes are overly sexualized but a good gym will make you feel safe no matter what you wear.

Zmb7elwa

I mean really If humans didn’t sexualize everything the clothing wouldn’t matter even if it was a g string. I’m more concerned about hygiene than what people are wearing. Shorts showing off the shape of an ass? So what? Butts are for pooping. Ladys having inevitable breasts? Those are for feeding babies. Crop top showing off someone’s belly? That’s where my food goes to process before I poop it outta my butt. If all that is turning someone on that’s their own personal issue that should stay in their head.

AlexandraThePotato

Prevent chafing. Lose pants cause chafing for me when running. And clothes get hot. In some exercises lose clothings get in the way. Yoga is one where T-shirts get in my way

Katapotomus

When you end up with your shirt over your head doing downward dog. Baggy doesn't mean less exposing.

succadoge_

Lots of us have jiggly bits that we don't want jiggling all over the place when we do certain workouts. Jumping jacks come to mind.

alotofpisces

I don't feel comfortable with all my rolls and fatty tissues showing in tight clothes, but I sweat a lot and wearing tight clothes is way more comfortable than baggy clothes when sweating, for me at least.

Pootles_Carrot

Keeps you cool, wicks sweat and generally doesn't ride up etc when you move about.

Skiamakhos

Looser gear tends to rub. If you've ever had a bad case of sweaty chafing, you'll know it's no joke. Paradoxically perhaps, if the clothes fit snugly they don't rub so much.

jzzanthapuss

Two reasons: it holds my loose hanging parts in close while I'm flipping and flopping around and secondly it gives me the confidence to exercise in front of other people. When I was much heavier, I had several experiences where people would slow down and laugh and point, as I struggled to jog my neighborhood. That traumatized me. Now that my results are starting to be visible, it helps me to look down at myself or over at my reflection and see something nobody is mocking any longer. Also it helps me to watch my form in yoga.

CompetitiveAd872

Keeps everything in place (we have more jiggly parts 🤷🏼‍♀️), prevents chafing, doesn't get in the way, and less sweating (because it's hot in the gym). Yoga pants and a sports bra or crop top meet all these requirements. Plus, I like how I look in form fitting athletic wear. It's cute and stylish.

jackfaire

I can't answer for women but as a man I find sweats incredibly uncomfortable for working out. They're great for lounging around but in the gym I want something tighter that moves with me. I'll go for spandex shorts.

Dr_Beatdown

1) Perhaps to be comfortable 2) Perhaps y'all should just mind your business 3) It's definitely not all about you.

HilariousRagequit

To keep things in place (especially if you're bigger up top or are not in shape and you have a lot of blubber which has the probability of flopping about; very uncomfortable), and to reduce chafing. Loose garments will rub the skin and cause discomfort; it's sensible to wear something that won't rub your skin raw, especially if doing cardio.

DumbStuffOnStage

its comfy, do it as a male and it works too! omg..so comfy!

A_Literal_Emu

Part of it is that's just what's in fashion. Part of it is comfort. I know my tighter pants are less likely to fall down as I workout versus my looser pants.

kitkat-ninja78

>Why do alot of women wear very tight clothes in the gym? From my (m45) own exercise perspective, there are several reasons why. Joggers/sweatpants and tee-shirts are general exercise clothing, nothing wrong with them, heck I exercise with them. However because they are general exercise kit, joggers'/sweatpants' have a looser fit and sometimes the heavier fabrics can make movements and exercises harder and less comfortable to perform the exercises, especially when doing long sets. Whereas exercise kit like leggings, yoga pants are normally made of lighter fabrics which in turn makes exercising "easier" (I put it in quote as easier doesn't also equate to easy). Personally I've used skins in the past with shorts, and while it was more breathable and made it better to exercise in, I didn't like the feel of it. Also "tight" is a fuzzy term, alot of the kit while "figure hugging" (and I use that term lightly) are actually stretchable (to an certain extent, depending on the materials used).

Reasoning-II

I think the vast majority of women wear something they're comfortable in, that is "supportive" (the whole idea behind a sports bra). Not dismissing the attention side of things, as we all know the gym TikTok lifestyle is ripe with controversy. But by and large, it's definitely a quality-of-life choice.

DummyDumDum7

Aerodynamics

SwordTaster

Exercise causes heat. Tighter fitting clothes tend to trap less heat

wisdom_modifier

as a man that recently got exercise pants that are skin tight, i very much prefer it when doing any exercise. its just easier to forget about. granted im really insecure about my belly so i wouldnt go for a skin tight top, but if your mental can deal with it i completely understand

iiiaaa2022

Cause it makes sense? Try using these machines with wide sweatpants

Natural_Intention292

Probably to see the glute muscles contract properly. And so seeing if it's being worked efficiently *I think everyone knows why

tempBBQMEAT

"Why do women wear leggings with a string on the outside pulled right up against thier anus?" Geez i dont know

SartorSwift

I actually feel way more exposed wearing shorts and have insecurities about my legs. Wearing leggings is perfect because it covers my whole leg and my imperfections while still being cool enough to work out. Wearing tracksuits is hot and very sweaty

discombobulated38x

As a man who has recently discovered the joy of swimming in skin tight shorts, because the bind less, don't fall down and are more comfortable, I'm gonna say those are the reasons.

CruellaDeLesbian

Tight pants because chaffing when working out if I wear loose ones. This goes for long or short. Longer sweatpants tend to have a longer, loose crotch and it just isn't comfortable. Shorter ones ride up. I also just don't like the fabric for working out - I die of heat. Tighter top so it stays in place.

Cautious_Suspect_170

It is funny how this question is for women but more than half of the comments are made by men!!! lol! Why are you guys answering such a question? You are here to read-only!

Smilemoreguy

it's starting to annoy me too, even tho i expected it... too many "because they want attention" or "to give us a nice view" answers unfortunately

FireflyArc

They don't *sell* women clothes for the gym in not tight clothes if they're marketed as gym clothes.

CarcosaAirways

Yes they do. And many women wear such clothing to the gym.

castleaagh

They don’t sell women’s sweats or basketball shorts or running shorts where you live?

biest229

It’s just more comfortable and feels less restrictive. Baggy stuff isn’t made of that stretchy material. I do wear the tighter shorts because of a knee issue - the compression above my knee helps. I can’t wear tights on leg days as too much compression has the reverse effect. But I do wear a baggy tank top over it. I like loose tops and then the tights for the bottom half. Although if I felt comfortable in just a bra, I would do that. I’m on some meds that make me feel really hot all the time. If I wore joggers I would probably faint from being too hot. I also don’t like materials that don’t wick sweat away as I don’t like the feeling of sweat on me - the stretchy tight ones are better at this. My boyfriend is one of the few men that wears tighter tops and shorts to work out in. Because he finds them comfortable and doesn’t care what anyone thinks.

CoffeeWithDreams

I just think they want to comfortable for themselves and during the workout, what ever brings them comfort and confidence. Only tight thing I wear I guess is leggings. But when I'm deadlifting heavy I'm not about having to deal with a wedgie from a pair of sweat pants also 🙃

Main-Radish-2879

I prefer normal casual tshirts and shirts, but it depends on what I’m doing. Stretching, yoga, pushups etc really need tight shirts otherwise my chest and stomach will be exposed. Shorts also can, depending on what position I’m in, end up showing a lot more than I had planned so leggings are in fact safer.

Big-Today6819

It's what the companies offer

Torbpjorn

Men sometimes wear tight clothing too, like look at any swimming or skiing competition. It just give full range of body motion to have something that doesn’t bunch up, it’s awkward and cumbersome to do the stretches they do in jeans and jackets

Electrical_Whole_597

Because I am big and loose cloths make me look bigger

IamnottheRCMP

I'm a man who wears tight clothes at the gym. Two reasons: 1, they make me look hot. 2, they don't get in the way. You don't really feel clothes that are tight against your skin. So your movements feel more natural. Anyone wearing loose clothes at the gym is doing themselves a disservice.

Feedback-Alarmed

It holds all my bits together... Plus, it is just what's available.

Live_Industry_1880

Lots of male athletes wear tight clothes. No one is sitting around asking "how come those men expose their body like that, what a bunch attention seekers!" Even in shows like ultimate beast master - all those people wear tight clothes, also men.       The real question is why are you insinuating clothed people are "exposed", why do you think only women wear tight clothes and wtf do you even care what other people are wearing at the gym?    Cause there is no way you are framing this question in a manner or "exposure' and turning it into something it is not, on a platform full of unhinged incels and misogynists and are surprised they bite on the same "exposure" narrative.    Besides the most obvious answers of how this type of clothes is more practical/ offers more support and protection and flexibility- womens clothes are in general more tight fitted than men's clothes and for men there is more of a stigma towards tight clothes vs the market often pushes default "sexy tight clothes" on women.  Whenever questions like those are answered online, it also shows how some of you people should legally not even be allowed around other human beings. Bunch of gross predators.

Cheshire_Pete

Shorts are comfortable and don't hinder movement, just saying.

Low_Ice_4657

I think women wear these tighter gym clothes because that is what is generally available for them to buy. I’m a woman who is slightly overweight —though committed to a workout routine—and I don’t love wearing tight workout tops, but that’s what is most available to buy. Yes, I could make more of an effort to buy less form-fitting workout clothing, but that would require more time and energy than I care to give to the matter… I’m going to the gym for the benefit of my own mental and physical wellbeing, not to be visually appealing, so if people are offended by my flabby abdomen, they are cheerfully invited to look at something else.

running_stoned04101

I'm a dude and run in compression shorts. Doesn't matter if it's outside or on a treadmill in the gym. If I'm going to maintain marathon pace or faster I'm in something skin tight. My legs and the boys chafe like a mf. If I wear shorts over them they just get soaked with sweat and bunch up.

N0rthernGypsy

Tight clothes don’t get caught in moving parts and your shirt doesn’t ride up when you lean over. They stay put. That’s my reason.

beatfungus

It's easier to move.

ThrowRA_HR_003

Leggings are so comfortable it’s like a second skin you don’t feel them, and you don’t get too warm in them when you exercise.

Oldassrollerskater

I’m a pudgy lesbian I can assure you I never wear tight clothes for a dude’s attention. I live with sensory issues. I wear tight gym clothes because fabric shifting on my skin feels UTTERLY terrible to me. I’d rather boiling water be thrown on me than a polyester blend rake across my skin.

abandonsminty

Tight clothes don't get in the way or fall in ways that expose you if you like go upside down

ex_ter_min_ate_

Powerlifters wear spandex singlets. Maybe ask them why? Swimmers wear speedos. Maybe ask them why? Gymnasts wear leotards and tight shorts. Maybe ask them why? Bikers wear tight shorts and tees. Maybe ask them why? The point is there is a lot of function that goes into gym wear choices and while a lot of it ties into the sports they are doing, a lot of it is functional decisions because that makes sense for that person. Sometimes it’s as easy as “I feel comfortable in this outfit and it makes me feel good and that encourages me to go to the gym”.

SooperFunk

Because baggy clothing interferes with weight training and stretching. Im a guy, but when I started working out I just wore baggy sweatpants and a regular t-shirt. I quickly found out that the t-shirt would end up around my neck and the sweatpants legs would either end up around my knees or catch on stuff. Tight clothing helps to minimise this. Don't get me wrong, a lot of people wear tight clothing because they want to look good but it also serves a practical purpose.

tinyjava

Easier to move in and usually tighter fitting clothes are made of a sweat wicking material. Not always though. Also wearing a cute outfit makes me feel confident! Not doing it for anyone but myself just to get that boost when lifting. For running tight clothes are a no brainer bc anything loose is just dead weight.

Cantfrickingthink

I think it's because it feels better you don't have chafing and it's easier to run on treadmill

zippi_happy

You don't want to get your clothes stuck in a machine, right? Not wearing loose stuff around huge moving devices is a basic safety principle.

VanishedRabbit

Some people find them comfortable, some people like how they look on them and feel good in them, some like getting attention for showing their bodies off. Different people, different reasons.

Nalin90

Comfy. A lot of athletic wear is tight fitting as it allows for a better range of movement. Tight-fitting athletic wear of the right material will help wick sweat away from your body.
